Love your honesty where you said things would be so quick to steam but that you just wont. Mine is "do I actually wear it?" Why not? Do t repeat the same mistakes, learn from it 😊
Shoes are the hardest thing for me to declutter. I wear the same 2-3 shoes on a regular basis, but I have over 20 pairs that I very rarely wear but don't want to get rid of, "just in case."
Tip for the clothes that you're not sure about. Take a few pieces of paper or a rubber bands to mark the clothes in the closet. If you use it remove the paper or rubber band from the hanger. You can do color change depending on how it's worn, in a season and general purpose (formal vs casual, stuff for cleaning gardening vs work leisure.) put the date on it ( example Winter 2025) if you don't use the item in 2 years and you either bought something else for the occasion that item could have been worn or just never was reached for it time to donate it to a local charity thrift stores there's one that is connected to the local animal shelter, homeless shelters, battered women's shelters, some churches. Take the clothes down to the area in your hometown where there's a lot of homeless people. Drop it off there. Someone will use it but skip thrift shops like that or goodwill and salvation army that throw most of it away and hike the prices up. Employees barely get paid minimum wage.
