Oh my, I must say, it is just a tad difficult to find someone so well spoken, easy to understand when it comes to Revit and You Tube. and I must mention, teaching in Imperial units versus Metric, ack! Thank you so much for helping us newbies w/your lovely tutorials! May thanks! Jul (CA Mama) Oh, ha! I just noticed your label "smarter architect" love it!
Thanks Julie! I know how difficult it was for me to find what I needed. I am so excited, but stay tuned for the new trailer video for subscribers where I'll explain what is next and provide a Zoom meeting link. I want to meet the subscribers and see how best to serve the Smarter Architect community.
Hello, two questions. -I would have created more reference planes for each edge of the mullions instead of only one for the middle of the mullion. I guess it is working because revit is guessing those constraints. -when you lock te edges of the glass to the mullions. I was told to avoid locking things to geometry.
It is actually very helpful, but let me say that u didn't assign material to window's element in the video that follows as u promised, however u did an excellent job as some comments say here "It isn't an easy work, but you did it" , thanks a lot
James Priester Awesome! As you dive into families, you can build anything you are creative enough to design. I hope to build a Revit families course soon for the Intermediate User.
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I have one question: I already made different kinds of windows but the mullions are not visible on the floor plan view. Am I skipping something?
Hello, When i try to edit the size of the window i get a lot of error messages including: Can't Make Extrusion, base sketch for extrusion is invalid, and lines may not form closed loops. I thought they must be in closed loops. I'm very confused. Thanks!
Click on your extrusion - edit extrusion - annotate - aligned your extrusion lines - lock. How I fixed the issue in my project, I aligned/lock my extrusion (mullion) line to my extrusion (frame) line.
Great instructional video. Quick Question. When you lock the glass elements. Is there a shortcut? As in if we were to draw one sheet of un extruded glass, can we copy it and still maintain the locked property of the shape? Thanks !
+Aisha Whitman Not sure I totally understand your question. But you do not want to use a copied extruded element that is already locked to a particular reference plane because it will likely cause errors to happen based on how you manipulate the copied element in the future. Hope it helps!
Hello, in my project it has 6 different sizes of window (same type), when I to change size, others also change, can you show me how to fix that please. Thank you
One question: When I tried to change the height or width of this window, I cannot do that because there appeared a messag "Reference Planes are overconstrained". What that means?
Milla Dimitrova There is a conflict between one of the predefined constraints you currently have attached between reference planes so as you attempt to manually change the height or width, it is causing an error. Just delete the constraint that you would like to override. Hope this helps.
Hello! Excellent video, I have this issue: I created a window but when I tried to open it on my project comes with an error : "Some or all the families you selected cannot be loaded. You must choose family files of the category of Windows" I save my new window on that file. Could you help me? Thanks!
Awesome...thanks for watching! That error message usually means a family was selected from a category which was different than the family for which the Load Family command was invoked. For example, going to the Architecture Tab, invoking the Door command, then going to Load Family and selecting a window family. Solution: To load whatever family you want, you can go to Insert > Load from Library > Load Family.
You can important a ceiling fan as a revit component or go completely custom. Maybe a future video! I recommend starting with editing existing revit families just to familiarize yourself and then go to creation from a revit family template.

in one day you will be a grate instructor all over the world.
RM Indika Keerthi Bandara medagadara Rathnayaka Thanks. I'm happy that these tutorials are helping you.
When I select any measure in line dimension 2:37 No LABEL menu comes up, so I cannot create parameter... What am I doing wrong?
have you solved that ? because i have the same question

samy yousef Keep watching the window family series and assigning materials are covered. Thanks for stopping by!
I found this very helpful and straight forward. This isn't easy to do, but you did well!
Well explained ...very useful vedio
Awesome! Glad it was helpful. More content in production now.
Thanks for the tutorial! This video was very helpful!
thanks. very clearly explained and very helpful
Thank you very much for providing this Johnathan! :)

why didnt you just create one extrusion for the glass sitting inside the frame rather than individual ones. surely this would be faster?
because that looks ugly in the floorplan
Why cant I see anything when I go onto elevation, exterior? it is just a blank canvass.
Thank you for uploading tutorials with decent audio-quality, you're like Revit-Jesus to me.
You move with disjoin to move the glass to the middle of the window.
thanks so much, really helpful
You're welcome!
Excellent video! Exactly what I needed!!!
damn. those clicks are satisfying. lol
newb question, why do we lock and unlock those lines? (glass panels)
It's really easy to understand. Thank you!
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I have one question: I already made different kinds of windows but the mullions are not visible on the floor plan view. Am I skipping something?
I am not able to save this file, it’s giving me error message file not saved. Not able to do save as too
Thank you
VERY HELPFUL THANK YOU
Awesome video. It finally helped me a lot.
where did you get those template? did you make it yourself?

Hello,
in my project it has 6 different sizes of window (same type), when I to change size, others also change, can you show me how to fix that please. Thank you
In order to create different window sizes, you must duplicate it first from the properties menu before editing the parameters.
