Ah ok thank you very much, now I understand. 👍 as I did not know. Very interesting training for the horse to get used to this sort of prompt event. Lena is so sweet and cool 😍
Wow, another awesome lesson. Lena sure looks like she trimmed down a bit, she is beautiful. Graeme you do an awesome job hitting that target. Wish I could give it many thumbs up!! Thanks buddy, love it!!
I have a Tennessee walker and Thoroughbred 🙂 I'm a beginner at archery but I am a competitive rider,so I hope I can get both my boys' into horseback archery....Q: do gaited horses do well with archery in your opinion,I've never seen one myself
Fascinating. With dogs, the advice about when to reassure is different according to what I’ve heard. They say if you pet your dog when he exhibits fear , you are rewarding the fear encouraging that state of mind, but it is obviously not true with horses. Wonder if what I’ve heard is even true and if so, I wonder if the difference is prey vs predator animal mindsets.
Ad Astra Thank you for responding. I have heard that petting a dog when they are in a certain state of mind can accidentally reinforce it. It’s sort of like praising them for whatever thing they are feeling or doing. An example is when a dog is bearing his teeth exhibiting fear and anxiety, the owner often tries to reassure by petting, but experts say you’re only encouraging that way of being. It also comes down to timing which is important. Dogs have a 2 to 3 second memory to connect cause and effect situations. So if your dog runs away from you when you ask it to come, you do not want to give any negative feedback when he finally comes, or else he’ll assume coming to you was not a good thing. I just love learning and observing animal behavior because I always want to interact correctly.
@@kkdoc7864 =) Yes... all of those things seem true & make sense to me too. I think we need to unlearn things from our (arrogant!) human perspective & reasoning & start to relearn from an animals view. Actually, I like their way of doing things better than ours because they don't tend to complicate anything... well... usually! This is such a great channel to learn from & the people in the comments are cool too! Keep good kk doc & see you round ;)
It would never occur to me to not provide reassurance when the horse is worried. They will actively try to be closer by nature, so to say that it's a reward seems odd. Not sure about dogs but I doubt I would do any different as it seems it always would allow me to be the "provider" or "leader" of what to do and they can borrow some courage from that. Then it's just teaching time.
Would a hay net full of hay make a good target? I don’t have a target like yours and would rather not spend that kind of money 😅 However, I’ve got lots of hay!😊

Thank you Thomas. I wish! Maybe I just showcase that which I'm kinda good or actually good at, then I don't have to show what I'm no good at!!

She certainly did well. She's done it before but she doesn't like the indoor arena that much.. so it adds to the work.
@@StableHorseTraining yes I presume the environment influences their mood.

Thank you! Yes, she's getting a bit leaner, but not much yet.
I just adore Lena. My namesake. 😍🤗
Me too!
Super instructional video! Love the double screen you used to show us a close up of the target. Brilliant session :-)
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. I felt like it needed a bit of a change to it than just one locked off position
Thanks for the series !
My pleasure!
Nice work with the target closeup! Your older archery videos with Roni came up in my feed :)
I now see that you've collected them all in a playlist.
Yes, I try to keep videos organized as I'm getting on somewhere around 600 of them...
Lena , along with Oldenburg maybe Painted which would be more a First Nation breed, Oldenburg more European.....?
Oldenburg is German, not sure of the other side of her, some draft we were told
The problem with Lena videos is that I forget to listen what you are saying and just keep admiring her :D Have a goldfish brain, apparently.
ha! I find myself watching the horses more too than the rest too when I'm reviewing...

I believe it's the way you do things & what you say. It's *always* good to reassure, just not to praise at the same time for fearful or bad behaviour.

Maybe... I've never tried and would be worried the arrow would go right through unless it's dense enough
@@StableHorseTraining thanks for the reply!
I can pack it very full, I’ll let you know how it goes!
If you shoot with a light enough bow then it'll probably be fine
