I totally agree with the secondhand towels, flatware dishes etc. I collect really old flatware and dishes, I like my stuff to look old fashioned and I can tell high quality goods so I have really old fancy dishes and flatware that I really love and enjoy.

This was great - as far as looking for good quality materials at the thrift store, for the most part you can ignore "dry clean only" tags. I think a lot of people pass on good quality pieces that are silk, wool, or rayon bc they see that and don't know they can probably wash in cold water with Woolite and hang dry (depending on how delicate the item is, wash in the sink or in the washer in a mesh bag). I wash all my silk in the sink and haven't had hardly any problems. It might look stiff after it's dry, but I read you may have to "beat" your silk gently to loosen up the fibers and then it feels silky again. Silk is pretty sustainable in that way! I never regret silk lol!

This is such a good point & I definitely should’ve elaborated bc you’re sooooo right!!! I agree/tbh I was shocked to learn from my mom in my late teens that “dry clean only” is sometimes a lie hahaha-EXCELLENT point! bc good quality things are very often not cotton too and are def worth buying! 🫡💗 thank you for saying that!! 💌

also clothes made of natural fibers tend to age better and also look charming as they get old and faded etc. at least I think so. there are some pieces I have that I am looking forward to them to aging and getting all soft and faded and maybe a hole or 2 even.

yes and yay for cotton clothes and other natural fibers, I do love silk to be honest and don't mind handwashing the pieces. also I love secondhand shopping and secondhand clothes so much.
