  • I think this just might be the best instant ramen in Japan! This is Myojo brand Chuka Zanmai and we've found five varieties of them in our local supermarket.

I just love these videos of yours, thank you so much. My favourite is Sapporo Ichiban shoyu, but I've been having that since I was little, I'm 60 now still love it. Thanks again guys, 🎉

My grandfather in Taiwan always made these instant noodles way back in the early 80s. They are truly the best instant noodles.

I've tried the Shoyu and Miso varieties of Myojo Chukazanmai Ramen and found both to be excellent. Very hard to distinguishing betwen those dried instant noodles and fresh noodles. I believe they are overall comparable to Sun Noodle's products. 🍜🥢

They’re no longer carried in SF J-Town’s supermarkets now 😩
I used to keep a supply of soy sauce (red), soybean (orange), “oriental” (green) and cold (blue) .

Love this brand! Glad you guys like it too and that it's considered tasty even in Japan :) The noodles are air-dried rather than par-fried, and the oil seasoning packs make a huge difference for the flavor and aromatics.

When I make Shin Ramen I end up cubing a can of bacon-flavored Spam then air frying it. Once done I put in the bottom of the bowl, pour the noodles and soup over then cover with shredded cheese. If I feel really hungry I poach eggs in the broth as the noodles cook. I understand where Satoshi is coming from.

Back in the day, a restaurant in LA's Little Tokyo used to serve Myojo Chuka Zanmai (shoyu & miso flavors) as their ramen. No one was the wiser. The restaurant recently moved out of Little Tokyo and is still operating. Don't know if they continue to serve Myojo Chuka Zanmai or not.

Myojo make a lot of these in export versions for the US as well! I'm sure there are probably some ingredient differences between them, though, as you cannot import products from overseas that contain things like beef, pork, or chicken. Seafood meats seem to be fine, though. The export versions are still quite nice, I think! I'd love to try the ones sold in Japan sometime. I have had the last one, the tantanmen, the actual for sale in Japan version, because I imported it myself from a website based in Japan and customs didn't seize it lol. It was quite good. :)
If you guys want to try more high quality air dried instant ramen lines, maybe do videos for Nissin Raoh, Maruchan Seimen, or Marutai's Local Series. Marutai's Local Series is my personal favorite of the Japanese air dried instant ramen lines. The noodles are stick type instead of in block form, and each packet contains two servings instead of just one.

If you live in the US, I often find them at Asian supermarkets. They make versions for export, though there's likely some small ingredient differences due to the US' restrictions on importing products that contain some types of meat. But I'm able to fairly reliably find the US export versions at H-Mart and similar stores.
If you live elsewhere, you might be able to just find the original Japanese versions.

Have you tried Sun Noodle while you were in Hawaii? I know you typically stay in a hotel and may not have access to prepare an instant noodle dish, but you could have your sister make it at her house for you. BTW, Amanda & Felix recently featured Sun Noodle on their channel. The tantan and tonkotsu are excellent. Sun Noodle doesn't have dried instant noodles so difficult to compare to Myojo. Myojo also has refrigerated noodles, so you could compare their's to Sun.
Now I have to check out the Asian stores in my area and see if they carry the flavors of Myojo you just featured.
    Mahalo for this video.
