  • Ken Roczen was successful
    with KTM
    Why did he leave
    such a successful team?
Heiko Klepka - father of Ken Roczen -
    explains
    Only very few know
that I strongly recommended Kenny NOT to leave KTM
I have been a big fan of Suzuki.
But this relationship has changed over the time,
‘cause you don’t feel the support when it is necessary.
In such a situation you are simply nobody.
I would have preferred to see him at KTM at that time.
KTM was kind of a family.
    They hired the best stuff.
    Not everything was perfect,
but it doesn't work perfectly anywhere.
It was told, it was only a matter of money...
    Never!
Such a private team [like RCH Suzuki] has never a higher budget than a factory team.
    It was simply...
    ...something went wrong
while we were building up everything.
It was not a big deal,
but for a young kid like Kenny
    at this time
    without any experiences
it was simply too much at the end.
    If, at this time...
Pit Beirer were willing to take a little bit more time and speak with Kenny,
Ken would have probably not leftKTM.
But: Kenny showed results and performances.
    He earned podiums and everything.
    Why should you complain?
    I do understand.
    I accept everything.
Two years later Roger [de Coster] came to me
    tapped on my shoulder
and was thankful for all the issues we uncovered
and they have since fixed them.
If you are in a very busy situation
you get kind of a tunnel view
    Then it happens.
    We uncovered that.
Roger [de Coster] wanted to continue with Kenny.
    We tried everything
but Kenny had already signed the Suzuki contract.
    It was too late.
    I always said:
We want to buy the chassis components ourselves
    because we saw the problems.
    You see the problems...
...and you can't solve them. You simply want to win...
    Winning does not mean
that the rider is completely satisfied.
    Chase Sexton wins now....
... but he was frustrated like Kenny during the supercross.
In a situation like this the rider is simply ready to change the manufacturer.
