In the 90's and 2000's, Microfracture knee surgery was supposed to be a revolutionary knee procedure for players with debilitating cartilage. Instead, it made it nearly impossible for players to return to full strength. Portland Trail Blazers big man' Greg Oden received 3 microfracture surgeries in the first five years of his career. Other players that received microfracture and never returned to full form include Tracy McGrady, Penny Hardaway, Jamal Mashburn and Chris Webber.
