- A young rookie named Kasey Kahne gives defending series champion Matt Kenseth all he can handle in the storied track's last NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. The win would place Kenseth only seven points behind points-leader Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Kahne would finish second in only his second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start.

I am so glad NASCAR posted these again! I'm too young to have seen these races, but I love seeing some of the best finishes of the early 2000s.

North Wilkesboro and Rockingham, along with Darlington and Bristol, were the heart of NASCAR.
SRX should definitely add Rockingham, whenever NW is revived, add it, and possibly darlington but idk.

a track with character...a track you actually have to drive...a track unlike any other on the schedule. I miss it

***** I hate when they LIMIT attendance. Saturday, Turn 2 Grandstand was empty because of that American flag. Southern 500, Rockingham, and Iowa should be on the schedule. Wish Nashville got a race but I guess Kentucky beat em to it

Great finish. Classic race. This race set the tone for Kahne's rookie season and career.

I agree, but they would need to upgrade it a bit to suit the regulations. I'm not sure it has safer barriers.

Im from NewZealand and think they need to BRING BACK ROCKINGHAM SPEEDWAY.
They should get rid of some races and make room for Memphis, Nashville, Rockingham and Iowa. What I mean is they should get rid of some races at places that have a race already. For example, I love Pocono but I two races is a bit silly.
NASCAR, Can you please post this entire race as a NASCAR Classic Full Race Replay? Would love to see other Rockingham races as Classic Full Race Replays. I know there have been a couple uploaded to the channel.

Even though this track had some of the BEST racing.. it'll never be put back on the schedule, because it doesn't fit NASCAR's agenda of taking away from the tracks that built the sport and giving those slots to crappy cookie cutter tracks outside of the southeast.

No, you said it right to start with. My point is Rockingham and N. Wilkesboro should have never went away just to go where people don't care about Stock Car racing. NASCAR will always be a regional sport. They call it NASCAR is because if they Called it RASCAR (R=Regional), it would have sounded stupid.
So true! The tv money is all nascar has left. Til that dries up, nascar does not care about good races or good race tracks. Empty seats do not bother them yet.

I love when nascar posts these, I just wish they wouldn't give away the winner in the title and thumbnail image. My memory isn't that good and I can watch a race like it's new to me and I don't wanna spoil it!

The fact that nascar had the Daytona 500 the biggest race of the year and went to little ass rockingham in the sport most popular time I'm honored being from laurel hill and working in rockingham even I never attended a cup race cuz of age.
There has never been any NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the Rock. This 2004 race was the only NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at The Rock. The Rock held his last NASCAR Winston Cup race in 2003.

Phoenix, Texas and Kansas each got 2 dates on the schedule. Watching those races gives me a whole lot of time to make brunch and the lead never changes when i come back to watch the race. Watching a race at The Rock i would need to make brunch before the green flag because if i leave the room i would miss the lead change and how that driver did it. Bring back the excitement of NASCAR and make those drivers and cars work hard at The Rock.
Phoenix gets good attendance and the city makes good money why remove it?

the track could run some other class but its just sitting there dry rotting . Bruton is surely to blame for some of the problem . even though the Francis Ferko lawsuit caused some trouble for all of the tracks .their is only so many weekends in a calender year .

NASCAR JR. FAN 88 Pocono is my home, (and my favorite) track.

Yep we can only have boring tracks, but Rockingham has a very small seating capacity and Nascar is trying to get of tracks in the Southeast so they can get fans all across America. It would still be cool to see in the Truck Series again.
I think they got Of Rockingham because the owners of the track were too lazy to follow NASCAR’s safety rules. At this time (2004) they don’t even have safer barriers.

In all seriousness, can you tell why I don't watch the races anymore? I just check out old footage on RUclips hoping NASCAR will correct their path even the slightest amount. Don't worry though, I'm not holding my breath.

Stop with the cookie cutter d shaped mile and half tracks like kentucky, kansas, chicagoland. Stop with the 2 races a year at boring bland horrible tracks. More tracks on the schedule like this, irp, iowa, nashville, memphis etc.
More roadcoarses, instead of two trips to Pocono and Texas would be awesome
IAmAStegosaurus Texas and Kentucky are probably my two least favorite tracks because they're the exact same (except for minor banking differences) as atlanta, charlotte, kansas, chicago, las vegas etc.
