I have these and hadnt worked with them in a long time. This winter I took them out and struggled with them because they seemed too hard so I put them away after several attempts. Your suggestion in other video about warming up the Paul Rubens made me think maybe cold weather made these a bit harder too! So right now Ive got them sitting on top of my dryer hoping its just enuf to loosen them up. 😁
I don't own a set of Sennelier or Neopastel yet but I think I will. I've seen other artists rave about them both. I live in long term poverty so it takes me some time to save up for things that other people can easily get. I love your beautiful art, Linda. You're so good and I love your style. I have an affinity for Crows and ravens too. I draw them a lot. I also use rubber stamps and I do mixed-media and gel printing. I love experimenting and am just going to explore watercolour. I love art history too. I always watch your videos to the end! I hope that you and Don are doing well! Take care! Much love xx
Hi Miss Dee, you are such a loyal viewer. Thank you for always supporting my channel! I recommend buying the neo pastel over the Sennelier. I think they are more reasonably priced and they are a little less soft so they last longer. I really like them.
I am waiting on my birthday to get a gift card and buy myself a 48 set of neopastels because I made the mistake of buying 3 single colors and now, I am in love with them and watching this video just reinforced my need for them. I also bought 2 senneliers and they are beautiful and the texture is amazing so, even though they get used up faster, I am sure I will get a small set in the future to compliment my other brands and buy them open stock as I use them up, since I can get them for a very nice price. Same with the neopastels
Hi Julie, Thanks so much! I hope you do dig out your pastels and play around, it is such a fun medium to be creative and loose with! Yes, I am so blessed to live where I do and to have such nice views.
I am glad you found a good alternative to the Senneliers. I have a set of the Neopastels as well and I like them. I was excited that they are also offered open stock! My favourites are still the Sennelier, but theses are definitely a strong second for me. I do not believe they are offered in a larger size, but you never know maybe the company will decide to do that in the future :-)
Hi Kimberley, thanks! I was really pleasantly surprised with these and felt they were very high-quality. I think the perfect balance would be to buy some of the larger size sticks of the most used colors like white in Sennelier and then just continue to replenish the Neopastels as they get used up. All in all as you can tell from the video I was pretty happy with them. Have a great day!
You know you're having fun when you feel under the weather but your brain says just a little longer. Hi Linda! I enjoyed this video a lot! The fixative sure is stinky. I live in an apartment complex and I've been sneaking onto my balcony each night to seal my paintings for weeks now!! I'm basically begging for trouble lmao. I don't think my neighbours appreciate it but I'm glad it's still cold outside. Also, today I learned to spray the bottle upside down when I'm finished. Thank you for letting us know! The comparison was very interesting. The neopastels seems to glide so smoothly.
It’s great that you have a balcony to spray them on. I hope no neighbors complain 🤞So many people complain about the nozzle clogging up but I bet it’s because they don’t know your supposed to turn it upside down. Yes, the Neopastels do glide on very nicely! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for leaving a comment 💕
There's another product I found last year called Talens Varnish for Oil Pastels that works really great...you use it with a brush and apply a thin layer. Dries within an hour.
You're coloured house sketch is amazing. I love the bright colours. I bought a set of art creations oil pastels yesterday. What kind of blending thingy are you using? It looks handy. I could use my fingers. Fixitive seems like a good solution to all my pieces of paper in between the pages. Oh I just remembered I got the water soluble ones.
Thank you! It is called a blending stump or Tortillion. They come in all sizes. Here is a set on Amazon so you can see more info about them: amzn.to/3Nk4xtx I found that if I worked heavily in my sketchbook, even after applying fixative, I needed to put protective paper between my pastel pages while I was working on other pages.
I made the mistake of using the spray inside my art room. After that you learn your lesson pretty dam fast. My room stunk for a week I had to air it out. Now it’s always done outside.
I enjoyed watching this video very much. I love the Caran D’Ache Neocolor ii’s Aquarelle and I just received a set of the Neocolor 1’s, but haven’t tried them yet. I loved the fun you had paintings, getting carried away not wanting to stop, what a wonderful feeling. I can’t wait to see more of your Neopastel artwork! The fixative looks like it will help protect the artwork and unused pages, I would probably still use in between sheets of tracing paper. Old habits are difficult to change. Thank you for sharing. As always, I enjoyed spending time with you on your mountain top! From my mountain top in middle Tennessee, have a wonderful week and weekend, love Fran
