  • Combustion control 101.
In this video I see what happens when you run out of add blue, fix a large commercial heating system, replace some 500l expansion vessels, repair an Alpha Intec 2 with F01 fault and talk about combustion control in gas boilers.
This Baxi Combi Boiler had be diagnosed by two different heating engineers and now it's time to find out who is right. Boiler repairs are not easy and everyone makes mistakes. This video is not a criticism on the repair engineers. Gas boilers are complex and servicing and troubleshooting them can be a difficult task. Common UK boiler brands such as Vaillant, Ideal, Worcester and Baxi all have more obscure models and this is one of them
Unlike the USA our boilers are all high efficiency and more technology makes for harder diagnosis.
For videos on Burnham, Weil-Mclain, Peerless and Lochinvar find a US Channel.
I typed all that for better keyword and YT ratings. Lets see!!
Here is a link to the kit I used in this video, it is an affiliate link so if you buy it I get a (very very small) kick back. I didn't do this video for this kick back. I could find more money on the floor of the van behind the drivers seat ;-)

I went to a Vaillant combi firing up then displaying all kinds of faults and locking out. Eventually......i went to the gas meter cupboard and found the pile of Christmas presents had fallen over knocking the emergency lever to half shut 😂 Thankfully i hadnt pulled the boiler to bits...and it was a late night callout... Phew 🥳

Biomass boilers have a lamba sensor installed in their flue which monitors the residual oxygen level in the products of combustion, and adjusts the amount of input air to achieve better more efficient safe combustion. As you said combustion is combustion no matter what the fuel source. Brilliant video, deep tech alway stimulates the mind.

I work for Baxi the GA was a bit of a nightmare initially but we’ve got on top of it now, we changed the PCB software to get around a lot of the issues. And like you say we now use the Black GV and once you get one sorted it’s pretty good. You can auto calibrate them, then manually go into each setting hi/low/mid and get it via the display where you need it to be. Many years ago though caused no end of headaches, mostly due to engineers not understanding how they work.

I really did help develop the black gas valve. I videoed 20-30 valves before and after replacement. Sent all the videos to Warmhaus. Met them at a test center so we could go through every valve. They took our findings to Betelli and got the valve updated. I posted a photo of the trial gas valve on instagram today. On my story. :-)

Amazingly insightful regarding the Combustion Controls Systems.
Question; Appliances with the Bertelli GV & PCB, on a Combi Boiler, would it be possible to set them up with Hot Water running continually, to dissipate heat?
Thanks for sharing your very insightful knowledge.
Fantastic viewing also on the Commercial stuff👍👍

Yes you can if you have the flow rate. But usually you don't. I have had a lot of trouble setting them up. Also you see them a lot on LPG and the statics don't usually have more than 7-8LPM.

    • @TheDickPuller
      @TheDickPuller 2 месяца назад

@@HeatingGeek Flow Rate is generally not a big issue here in Jockoland Ollie. However, there’s some locations that are fairly poor.
You’re the first Gas Engineer I’ve watched on UTube that discussed the likes of Bertelli & other Combustion Control Systems. You also make a great point about Boiler Manufacturers following the lead of Car Manufacturers. Indeed, the OT/Bus Protocol control systems came from there also.

    • @HeatingGeek

@@TheDickPuller Yes, you are absolutely correct. CAN Bus was used on cars a long long time ago. My year 2000 5 Series used it and I don't think it was the first. I bet it goes back to the early 90s.
I completely forgot about that. :-)
