My son's father demanded we split everything 50/50, but he was 6 years older than me with an engineering degree and a full career. I was 19 working a waitressing job. It was awful and stressful. I learned my lesson and never allowed that to happen to me again. If I am supporting myself, I will remain alone. And I did until I found my amazing husband at 32. He is the provider for us. I work and contribute what I can, but he is the real provider, and I have no weight on my shoulders. It is a blessing that allows me to focus on our children, my husband, and our home. We are both blessed by him being a man and providing for us.
I had this also, the kids are grown with their own. I have always been grateful to have been able to focus on our home. We are empty nesters now. We take care of eacho bill ther, just in different ways 😍

Beside the fact of my personal beliefs the man should be the protector and provider, even if a more secular couple wanted to split things 50/50, that’s completely unfair to the party that makes less. She had to check him real quick and let him know they are partners and he will never say that to her again. They purchased a home together after that incident. My fiancé for 15 years, was a journeyman lineman, I had a side serving job, he paid everything..then he was electrocuted and now I stay home and take care of him, our bills are paid, because he almost died, HE pays our bills, HE buys our essentials/needs/wants. I nurture and care for him and our son. Also might I add, changing burn wounds is not a fun thing to do but it's my duty as a wife and him learning to walk again is a lot of work. ❤

The one thing I've never understood is this split money mentality. My parents have been married for 42 years, both made good money. It's always been their money. Not dad's money and moms money. This is a big reason why I think marriage is suffering, among other things. It's supposed to be a lifelong partnership. If you go into a relationship as mine and yours as opposed to ours, you are already setting yourself up to fail. Also, at 70+ years old, they still very much love eachother. Little things like holding hands, spending most of their time together while also know when the need space, oh and that little thing where they actually tell eachother they love the other. I always thought it was a very American thing where people focus way more on their individualism. I live in middle Europe and here it is very uncommon to have seperate bank accounts. My mom bought them an apartmant when she was 22, then when my mother gave birth to me then to my sister she stayed at home for 6 years and then my dad worked really hard. It was always their money. Funny thing is that the only 2 family I know that seperates their bank accounts were the families of my 2 exes. Sad thing that the 2 men I cared about did not share these values, eventhough it is more common here than not.

Years ago, I was a wife #2 and signed a prenup, no problem. He'd made his hard-working first wife sign a quit claim deed on the house. I did move into his house. The whole time we were married, it was "you pay half, I pay half" (including groceries, household bills). Drove me insane. Long story short, the marriage failed after seven years, no surprise, and I was happy to leave and had never asked this guy for a thing. We tried for kids but turns out I couldn't. I'd had a small home of my own when I met him, always worked full time, never cared about his stupid house or anything in it, yet he was always obsessed with the fear that some woman would take it all away from him. I ran into one of his nieces a few months later, who told me that he got married a third time less than six months after I left. Turns out wife #3 left him within the next year and managed to empty the house of all his furniture. He died alone in that stupid big house in 2010, at odds with his only daughter and her family.

In the case of celebrities life styles are more expensive: mansions, utilities, expensive cars, all name brand clothing, etc. So they live on a much higher level, so that's money does not last forever if over spending. Millions of dollars can go fast when not replenished and not properly invested just the same as middle and lower class. The more money you make, the more expensive lifestyle goes up. More money -- more problems. That's why she said there's always a gorilla on her back and having to work, work or someone may not eat.

The 50/50 thing doesn't work well, especially because incomes shift during different periods of life. My husband and I make about the same amount of money as each other. I'm currently in my third trimester of pregnancy and need to take some unpaid leave, so his income is covering all of the bills until I can go back to work.
How did you guys discuss the financial situation with becoming pregnant? Does he ever mention or say to you that he wishes he can support you (and your child) with only 1 income? Does he ever show sincere emotional recognition that he will continue to do his best to make enough money to support you one day and that you don't have to work?
When we got pregnant, I did have a lot of sick time and took FLMA, my checks still hit, but my husband took care of everything untill I got to work, marriage has all types of changes, but we talk about everything, especially finances, so we are always on the same page, with whatever comes up in the household

I work and contribute what I can, but he is the real provider, and I have no weight on my shoulders. It is a blessing that allows me to focus on our children, my husband, and our home. We are both blessed by him being a man and providing for us.
I had this also, the kids are grown with their own. I have always been grateful to have been able to focus on our home. We are empty nesters now. We take care of eacho bill ther, just in different ways 😍

this is the most ridiculous thing i’ve heard in a while. imagine being worth a combined 200 million bucks and talking about not sleeping in one day and missing work cuz someone won’t eat. she could quiet literally house feed clothe and support every single human being in her entire extended family and still have a unbelievably large amount of wealth. I survived and raised 2 kids alone on like 37k a year. No definitely not ideal but this is so out of touch. The one thing I've never understood is this split money mentality. My parents have been married for 42 years, both made good money. It's always been their money. Not dad's money and moms money. This is a big reason why I think marriage is suffering, among other things. It's supposed to be a lifelong partnership. If you go into a relationship as mine and yours as opposed to ours, you are already setting yourself up to fail. Also, at 70+ years old, they still very much love eachother. Little things like holding hands, spending most of their time together while also know when the need space, oh and that little thing where they actually tell eachother they love the other. Teamwork makes the dream work! Haha
I always thought it was a very American thing where people focus way more on their individualism. I live in middle Europe and here it is very uncommon to have seperate bank accounts. My mom bought them an apartmant when she was 22, then when my mother gave birth to me then to my sister she stayed at home for 6 years and then my dad worked really hard. It was always their money.
Funny thing is that the only 2 family I know that seperates their bank accounts were the families of my 2 exes. Sad thing that the 2 men I cared about did not share these values, eventhough it is more common here than not.

Years ago, I was a wife #2 and signed a prenup, no problem. He'd made his hard-working first wife sign a quit claim deed on the house. I did move into his house. The whole time we were married, it was "you pay half, I pay half" (including groceries, household bills). Drove me insane. Long story short, the marriage failed after seven years, no surprise, and I was happy to leave and had never asked this guy for a thing. We tried for kids but turns out I couldn't. I'd had a small home of my own when I met him, always worked full time, never cared about his stupid house or anything in it, yet he was always obsessed with the fear that some woman would take it all away from him. I ran into one of his nieces a few months later, who told me that he got married a third time less than six months after I left. Turns out wife #3 left him within the next year and managed to empty the house of all his furniture. He died alone in that stupid big house in 2010, at odds with his only daughter and her family.

The 50/50 thing doesn't work well, especially because incomes shift during different periods of life. My husband and I make about the same amount of money as each other. I'm currently in my third trimester of pregnancy and need to take some unpaid leave, so his income is covering all of the bills until I can go back to work.
How did you guys discuss the financial situation with becoming pregnant? Does he ever mention or say to you that he wishes he can support you (and your child) with only 1 income? Does he ever show sincere emotional recognition that he will continue to do his best to make enough money to support you one day and that you don't have to work?
When we got pregnant, I did have a lot of sick time and took FLMA, my checks still hit, but my husband took care of everything untill I got to work, marriage has all types of changes, but we talk about everything, especially finances, so we are always on the same page, with whatever comes up in the household
That's how my household was and there's no condemnation and whoever wants to do their life that way

Regardless whether you make 50k or 50m, if there is one partner earning significantly higher then the other might feel this way. Now whether this insecurity is a natural inclination or caused by the higher earning partner, that might be the crux of the issue. Seems like a relationship issues/dynamics problem as opposed to due to household income.
I am a married man with two boys already in the home, a wife pregnant with twin girls, and I bring home roughly $70,000 annually! I don't want to hear ANYTHING about these celebrities that feel "pressure!" There is a BIG difference in what someone like me COULD do with her worth and what she CHOOSES to do with it! Cry me a river!
