  • The roots of Classical Music in India are found in the Vedic literature. Indian Classical Music has 2 Major Traditions - One from North which is referred as Hindustani Classical Music and the other one is from South, which is known as Carnatic Music.
Sonodyne an Indian Hi Fi Speaker company, which is very well known for its musical fidelity and 50+ years of experience in manufacturing studio sound now aims to bring that fidelity in the Indian homes with their 3 Bluetooth Speaker models, Alaap, Bandish and Malhar.
Alaap is known as beginning of a performance and in this context too it refers to the first product in their wireless music segment priced under Rs. 20,000/-. The second one is Bandish, which in classical music language means multiple instruments playing together in melody and varying dynamics, priced at Rs. 27,500/-. And the last one is Malhar, which is a famous Raag known for bringing thunder and rain expected to be priced under Rs. 40,000/-. I am sure by now, you must have got a fair idea of what to expect from these products in terms of their performance.
With a robust built and glossy finish option, this speaker is definitely one of the strong contenders for hi-fidelity music, specially in the mid and high frequency area. Bass is not great considering the small woofer sizes and we recommend to be used it at anywhere between 50-75 % volume levels for soulful listening. It’s definitely not a party speaker with a thump bass, but I am guessing that Malhar might be able to fulfill that desire of yours.
The only drawbacks of these speakers are the buttons on top which are little tacky and no built-in Wi-Fi. We also did a little testing with TV for regular content streaming by using it as a soundbar but I will ask you to do that at your own risk as this is primarily a powered Bluetooth Speaker with an additional feature to connect to TV. I guess it’s more like a dock station.

It should phase match my other Onkyo Speakers. If you have any suggestion other than these you are mostly welcome. Budget below 20k. 🙏

Hi Tanmay, great video! I was looking for a bluetooth speaker that’s especially suitable for Hindustani Classical, classic rock and regular Bollywood. Accidentally came across ‘Bandish’. Earlier, I was thinking of Stanmore II. Now I am in a dilemma. Can you suggest which of these two (or any other?) will be better? I am looking for the best experience and can spend upto ₹40K. Thanks again 🙂
