You know what kills me, is how do you see a clear glass in the snow and not a big piece or red polycarbonate.
"Officer, are you competent at your job?"
Yes
"As a competent officer, did you perform a competent search?"
Yes
"Did you find 45 BRIGHT RED pieces of plastic which would stand out on the white snow?"
No
"Once again, are you a competent officer?"
My favorite was him being so sure he did a GREAT job collecting the evidence and even defended the Stop N Shop bag as “exactly like an evidence bag” and then fully bragged about having NO IDEA and NO TRAINING on the proper way to collect and handle evidence… a 20+ year cop!!!! How many police has he trained and managed over the 2+ DECADESSSSS he’s been working there!?!
The best was saying the solo cup was a sterile and acceptable receptacle to collect blood in because it came from a brand new solo cup package 🤦🏽♀️ I have secondhand embarrassment
I had a DI come to my front door because the police officer who collected evidence from me gave me the wrong paperwork to sign, on cctv for a ram raid. Notbsure if it was training or experience to blame for that, but it took them 6 weeks and two court appearances to notice! @OpportunisticOmnivore

So, if I'm a defense attorney and this detective has processed the scene for one of my clients, I'm filing an appeal/investigation.
lol Natalie was in the same boat on her stream! She paused it and said “every single person with a guilty verdict in this town should file an appeal RIGHT NOW.” They won’t all get it but they sure as hell have the grounds for it. Especially if there was any evidence gathered that led to their guilty finding or a whiff of bias that was ignored by the court.

They saw the completely clear and almost invisible glass in the snow, and the dark red blood, but not the BRIGHT RED PLASTIC?
My take as of right now- The common wealth has not YET proven any crime by KR and they have proven their evidence is suspect. It also seems more like total incompetence vs malicious intent.
@1windyoldbird The Commonwealth is the prosecution, so it is currently their turn. Their case is so bad but a large part of that is because of how poorly the investigation was done. I kind of feel bad for them given the shoddy evidence collection and documentation that were given by the police department. Yet we're a week in and they haven't proven she did anything except find him with 2 other women and wail in distress.
When I hear anything about being framed or conspiracies, my eyes roll. However, I don't believe that there aren't frame jobs bc I've seen some famous ones on Court TV. IDK what to think about Read, but I def think that the investigation was anything except by the book and that seems like it is enough to acquit regardless of possible guilt (at this point in the trial).
It's alarming what a policeman/policewomen "can't remember or don't know" when it's important
I couldn't finish Runkle's replay last night. The judge's bias was making me so angry, I was afraid I wouldn't sleep and have an early meeting. This is a woman's life that's being decided.

IMO this case needs throwing out .. the prosecution have no solid evidence , it could all have been tampered with , plus conflicting statements etc and dodgy cops !

Just the incredible negligence of the crime scene..solo cups, leaf blowers, not TREATING it as a crime scene, not getting a search warrant, allowing the people inside to "chat amongst themselves , not getting a search warrant and that's the tip of the iceberg....smh....

🤯 ANYONE who has watched CSI/Criminal Minds/NCIS/etc knows procedure let alone a supposed detective/cope of over 2 decades…Emily hang on to that sanity!
Every day I'm so surprised by the lack of room in that courtroom. It feels like no bigger than a home office space for the judge.
I'm also every day surprised by the chaos that is this case. If Emily didn't help make sense of it, I'd have no clue what was going on or even how to come to a conclusion. I feel for the jury
Defence asked for this courtroom so the jury could see the witnesses clearly. The main courtroom has some limited views for the jury to see the witnesses fully. I think it’s important that the jury see all witnesses facial expressions.
"It appears to be a box" reminds me of a courier who used to come into my workplace. Whenever anyone asked what he had, he would literally describe the parcel like that because he had no idea its contents.
Soooo, they found a broken clear glass in the snow, but the piece of red plastic (which looks like it’s on the edge of a footprint) was both invisible during the search with the leaf blower, and also was not blown away by the leaf blower? Because you know, that plastic weighs so much that it wasn’t moved? And it was miraculously on top of the snow? And only visible after everyone else with body worn cameras had left the scene?

I really appreciate Emily’s commentary, i too lose my mind when cops act like bumbling fools. But they assure me it is incompetence and not corruption; I’m not sure that is always true.
It appears to be a box. What if anything does this box have in it? Who if anyone put this broken glass in the box? How if anyhow did you find this clear glass in white snow during a blizzard, yet nobody could see the high contrast red taillight plastic in the snow? Yup, that’s me doing my best Lallyisms.
I was watching this late today. When they show the "taillight " close up..... take a look at the snow. It LOOKS like black brown and tan/blonde dog hair on the snow. I have Belgian Malinois grandpups and get that hair all over me when I visit them- and if the wind blows, the bark and don't shut up

Edit: Sorry is there a place to petition these officer to get fired? Cause he just admitted in open court that he didn't know basic procedure related to evidence as a DETECTIVE! I would have been such a b*tch if I was that attorney. Like I wouldn't be able to stop myself from asking if he is even qualified to be a detective.
This case is everyone’s nightmare. I’m fully aware some people are innocent that we prosecute. It’s going to happen. We are human. To see a case handled this badly is very frustrating.

I worked as an administrative asst at Visiting Nurse and Hospice of the Sierra mid-90s thru 2003 when both agencies were acquired by Adventist Health.
So he handled a box and a bag with evidence tape on it.... now he doesn't know anything now?
The evasiveness from the prosecutions witnesses truly make it look like 1. It's a cover up and 2. They're incompetent. Saying "I don't know if I've EVER used evidence tape in my career" is not helping your case...

The norm for an actual guilty suspect’s trial is that as the prosecution case goes on we should be more and more convinced of the defendant’s guilt. When the prosecution case concludes, we should be 100000% convinced the suspect is guilty. Then we hear from the defense and they can either sway us off that stance and give us doubt, or not.
This case is such a mess that at NO POINT did I ever think she was guilty. All that’s been proven is that:
1. This police department is a shit show and should have retraining and heavy oversight top to bottom for the next decade at least
2. Every guilty prosecution from the last 2 decades at least should be looked at again and scrutinized
As a juror, all I see is that one person (Higgins) could have started the cover up and then counted on the sheer incompetence of the cops he shares a workspace with to bungle every detail and ensure the cover up works
If I ever get murdered, I would like it to be in a large city with a competent homicide department and actual evidence collection teams, with you know evidence bags and evidence containers.

I’ve only been able to watch these quick bits and not any of the actual trial- between the abysmal judge and the blatant corruption I feel like my head is going to explode. If KR gets anything other than acquitted this will be such a huge miscarriage of justice
That box is how I have to package broken glass at work. Massive box but might just have one broken glass in it. Has to be labelled all over so people know it has broken glass in it.

As for the lack of knowing the procedure for preserving evidence... WTF? Admittedly, I had a DI at my door cause an officer gave me the wrong paperwork for cctv evidence (took them 6 weeks & two court appearances to notice) but that was 1 sheet of paper and I had to sign so many new sheets because of that 1 sheet! I'd hate to see how much needs to be signed etc for physical evidence over digital!

Its part of the beuracracy. We pay for it and its another goverment employee, of course.
I’m sure it transcribes. Voice to text and given the terrible job the CC was capturing, I’m sure she does a better job documenting the correct wording, who said it, etc.

Everyone involved in this investigation is either incompetent or corrupt. I can't where anything was done the way it should be. Even if Karen is guilty, I can't see how any of the evidence or testimony from the officers and investigators can be used. Just the basics of securing evidence weren't even followed.

If it's for evidence being admitted, the judges always ask if there's an objection to that piece of evidence

A comment made by one of the other officers about Lank was very telling; I can’t remember which, but someone said “not Sgt Lank”, which led me to understand that they held his integrity as extremely high and known to be so. I imagine if he is very by the book and incorruptible, the line of questioning must be eating at his soul.
Except that Sgt Lank is in trouble over this and that could just be another example of these people all covering for each other. I honestly saw that statement as the exact opposite of what you did. Goes to show that interpretations can vary wildly.

@@Mjolnir200508 Same. I came across Emily's live stream midway through day 5 and knew nothing at all about it prior to that. I can imagine it will be different for the jury as they are from this reasonably small town so will probably have preconceived notions going in.
Being willfully ignorant is not a good look.
TGH was very old (built in 1849?), and her age was reminded daily, especially technology wise. I worked all over the building, even the morgue but I didnt experience and jumping about all day, everyday. Not to mention screaming Larry- someone please get him to a more appropriate facility!@٪

🤯 98% of the time, I am for the side of the prosecution, BUT this case is embarrassing! I have had so many W T F moments in this last week!
This is also some of the BEST lawyering I've ever seen with a defense. The behavior and lack of integrity for the investigation itself is absolutely absurd!
A couple of other cases come to mind for me in support of the defense after hearimg and seeing the facts, were the Peterson case, (security guard at Parkland), and Rittenhouse, who shot a "protester", in self defense during the BLM movement.
THEN, don't get me started on the blatant constitutional rights that are being CLEARLY violated in the Allen case. Guilty or not, he is entitled to a fair trial, and Judge C Gull has made it abundantly clear that she is NOT going to be the nonbiased umpire she took an oath to be as a judge! She is dirty dirty dirty! Im quickly heading to a 97% approval for indictments and charges by the state.

QUESTION! Hypothetical: I'm on the jury, my mind so open that people claim my brain will fall out, when we're shown information that suddenly makes up my mind for me (rarely happens in real life, but within the narrow narrative of a jury trial . . . ). In other words, I am now Biased beyond redemption. Do I wait it out or tell the judge I'm no longer a disinterested party? Or is this the whole point of a jury trial? There may be a basic bit of political philosophy I need explained. Thank you. 💜💜💜
