- STEELERS NEWS ALERT: The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing veteran cornerback Anthony Averett in NFL Free Agency after working him out at Steelers rookie minicamp this weekend. The Steelers have been in need of help and depth at the cornerback position this offseason, and although Cam Sutton has been on their radar and they have brought in talented rookie Beanie Bishop Jr. in to the fold, Averett brings a level of experience that could land him potentially in the starting lineup to start the 2024 season for the Steelers as their starting slot cornerback if he has a strong offseason and preseason leading up to the 2024 campaign. On this breaking news edition of Steelers Talk, host Jack Sperry breaks down today’s signing, and what it could mean for the Steelers secondary moving forward.

Decent grab! Looking forward to see the final 53… would like to see them change the amount of active players from 53 to 60, so more dudes get a chance to hit the field game day. More rotation pieces, and more energy for big plays throughout the game. Would lower personal stats I’m sure, but more opportunities for others.

The scotty miller signing, and now this one tells me that their the best we could do, but they're not good, but their at least better than whoever was playing before. They know we aren't good at wide receiver and cornerback, but i think we will be fine on defense because of how good the rest of the defense is. I think as long as the quarterback play is good, we'll be fine. I know we're gonna run the ball and dominate with that o-line and running back duo with arthur smith.

Nope that’s not why. They’re having them compete for the job and we need depth. Wanna bet that they will bring in another CB and will either trade or sign a FA wide receiver and CB they have to wait and see what these cats do in rookie camp before spending big money. This is all one year contract signings. Patience.
@howardgriego2272 anthony was already at rookie Minicamp, and why would he compete when he's better than the other guys, and why would he be in depth if he's better than other guys? I'll bet we don't bring in another corner, and we don't bring in another wide receiver unless we trade for one. I know he's a one year contract. We are probably bringing him in for competition, but that's just to motivate the younger guys to be better than him. Our defense will be fine with the corners being mid, but I'm concerned about wide receiver, and we don't know how good the quarterback play is gonna be.

@Iceline_productions We know it will be better than last year for sure. More touchdowns are guaranteed. I don't know if it is just all of the haters don't understand the difference between 26 TDs & 13 TDs. That is a big difference.

@@orez_0 We shall see but by him playing with the Ravens as a Steelers fan I tend to notice our opponents roster especially since that might be one of ours someday. Deeboo was a great gift we got from them and hopefully it happens again.😅👍🏾

Ahhhhhh......We DON'T need Cam Sutton. The only year he played well with us was his final season with us, and he didn't play well in Detroit so why would we want him back I wouldn't be upset if the Steelers took him back I just don't think that we need him.

@cecilfletcher4404 He was average leading up to his last year us, and then his last season he did ball out to a degree. To me, that wasn't good enough. But it was enough to get him a good contract somewhere else. Then he was bad in Detroit, so that's UNACCEPTABLE. Again, we don't need him.

Steelers will be 10-7 if they can avoid too many injuries. They will go out in the first rd of the playoffs but will take it down to the wire.
I don't think that the Steelers should sign Cam Sutton. Love him as a player. But as an organization, what a player does off the field very important. Other players and other teams are watching .What does it says about an organization if it doesn't matter what a player does or the way he behaves off the field. Not a good look .
