Brother Matt thank you! The Key thing here is the PASTOR DECEPTION ITSELF!!! Nowhere in scripture do we find a church led by a "PASTOR!!!" Read Matthew 23 and you will see the words of our Lord Jesus Christ! That said, have you seen the reports of all sorts of abuses in John McArthur ministry. His words and actions DO NOT March!!!!! He is a false minister!! Let God be true and everyman a liar!!!
John MacArthur is a Calvinist. Who believes not whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved, but whosoever God chose, shall be saved., Do you understand that is not the gospel of Jesus? Don't be deceived by Calvinism a false doctrine as well as, Once saved always saved.

Yet many following the words of the scriptures are called cult members such as those that go back to Hebrew and Torah when it's entirely on scriptural basis and the people calling them cultists are still under Christian doctrines of men. It is those walking as Christ walked knowing he said to do as they teach from the seat of Moses ( the Torah) and that he will tell the lawless to depart... These people who walk most closely with scripture are often the ones called cultists even though they are the only churches and people truly following scripture or trying to.
@@BelindaWorthWell if you have a good pastor and elders they are to be helping watch over us spiritually. If we step out of God's circle of protection, many pastors, elders and deacons may look away, BUT good church leaders are going to approach that person with concern and Godly wisdom! This is where people need to know the WORD and have wisdom & discernment. If I were going to a church and they are low on funds and ask a group of us to go steal a bunch of stuff from Home Depot so they can sell it on FB market place, am I to obey them? No!!!! Because they are wanting their members to sin. I knew of a church that had a horrible gossip problem, the associate pastor drank too much and his father, who was the lead pastor, did nothing to fix the problems going on. He looked the other way and kept the congregation in shambles. There were a lot of other issues but I'll leave it at that. They eventually combined with another church and the incoming pastor quickly saw what was happening and put a stop to the non sense. The associate pastor did not "listen/obey" to good council so he lost his position and is no longer allowed on church property because he had a rebellious spirit. I hope that this helps anyone who may be confused by this passage. Shalom 🕊️
@Jesus_is_Lord_316 Jesus is the Great Shepard for us to follow, it's scriptural to have to have leaders. Read, 1 Timothy 3:1-10 , it gives the qualifications or rules to be a leader.
The alphabet letter , J , was invented in 1524 CE, 500 years ago. There were NO alphabet letter , J , in ANY alphabets nor language in the ENTIRE world until the 16th century. It is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE for our Messiah’s name to be Jesus. Jesus name is only about 400 years old. Jesus - Greek,… meaning inferior, substandard. Research the suffix, sus , in Paleo Greek. YAHUSHA - Name is Paleo Hebrew and means: “ l Am Your Deliverer !” Messiah is HEBREW, NOT Greek. HE speaks Hebrew.! Jesus is the name of the AntiChrist( AntiMessiah) That name will FOOL BILLIONS TO FOLLOW THE ANTICHRIST ! BEWARE! Read book, “ Come out of her my people “ by Dr. C. J. Koster
No authority? It's an insane answer. The apostle Paul gives pastors various instructions which depend on the pastor having authority. On what did Paul base his instructions? The Word? No. On principles of good authority which later became accepted as the Word. But as with all authority everywhere, pastors only have the authority required to fulfill their responsibility up to the line of their disobeying a higher authority. If he can't explain how it helps him fullfill his role as a pastor, OR, it contravenes any biblical principle, he's out of line.

I'm the founding pastor of the church I've served for 20 years. I don't have any authority over someone's life. I'm to follow Jesus as He leads. I'm to preach the Word. The Word is sufficient for correction, rebuke, and exhortation. (2 Tim. 4:2).
Hello Rick Mills, Yes "The Word is sufficient for correction, rebuke, and exhortation. (2 Tim. 4:2)." But it is also incumbent upon the leadership with in the church to act upon the authority of God's Word. When any individual within the walls not just within the body of a church to keep all individuals accountable for their actions when it comes to sin. When I say "with in the walls" I am referring to any individual who comes as a wolf in sheep's clothings. They are the reason for the massive decline in the authority of of the church in America and the world a large. Just as democrats have slowly eroded the American dream Satan uses any and all means to destroy the Lords Chruch.
@RebelMerc 100% this. As a Pastor , you need to protect the flock . Church discipline is Biblical and in extreme cases, removal from the fellowship. This has nothing to do with control or heavy shepherding. Everything must be done in love and humility. I think the modern Church would expel Paul in many cases. He loved the Church dearly, but dealt with corrupting sin issues
Nobody exactly knows, who Jesus was and what he really did. There are only a few historical sources, talking about a person named Jesus. Jesus is a mystical Figure created by Paul and the evangelists.
This is the full context: Matthew 18:18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be[e] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[f] loosed in heaven. 19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Clearly the verse is about the dealings, operation, and decisions of the Church
@lionoffireraw This comment has no context, you have to know that many may not understand this without any explanation of your comment. As @candismetz5650 perplexed "what"???? I’m a firm believer that when we’re teaching or speaking into an individual or a group of people, give context of what you’re speaking on and make sure that they read for themselves to see if what is being said the biblical truth.
Thanks Matt, this is a very timely warning to Christians. I'm 70 years old, and over the last 5 years or so I've been having to rebuild my Christian faith by relying on the sufficiency of scripture and also some great biblical teaching from some xcellent you tube channels like this one. So much of my life as a Christian has been shipwrecked and deceived because I have found myself sitting under false teachers who I believed were the ones with all the answers. I thought they had a stronger connection to God.....if I had an issue, I even thought that I needed to run it past them before even going to God in prayer. Thank the Lord that He has finally opened my eyes to the absolute sufficiency of scripture. Mind you, the outcome of this journey has unfortunately meant that I am still without a church as I find it so hard to really open up and trust another one. I know that this is not a good thing for a Christian, and I am definitely hoping to find one that I can trust and commit to very soon. But thanks again Matt..... such an important message!
I'm 50, and have a similar story. Still without a home church after 8 years for various reasons. I hope to find one halfway normal and sound sometime-but I never hold my breath.
Your story is much like mine! I’ve had the same things happen to me. I’ve tried several of the churches around my home, but none of them stick to the word of God. So, I haven’t had a church home for about 8 years. Moved 3 years ago, and can’t find one here either. Oh, I could go Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian etc; I’m not into ordaining women or homosexuals. Thought I’d try Baptist. Listened to a few “sermons” on RUclips first. He, in any of them, never spoke about God. Just hope ppl were doing, who was fishing, vacations… Seriously.? In church on a Sunday morning. People love him! Of course they do! He doesn’t challenge them on anything! I’ve gotten more teaching from our dear Matt than I’d ever get there! I’ve prayed and asked Jesus to show me where I could go. Unless He’s speaking so low I can’t hear Him, I’ve not been led anywhere but some wonderful RUclips videos. Charles Stanley, John MacArthur, Paul Washer, C.H. Spurgeon; those are the men I listen to. Blessings, sister! Jesus is coming soon!
@@jesusbeloved3953Absolutely same story for me. Can I recommend a channel with a pastor I've been😮 following since the pandemic. He's connected to Moriel miniseries, Jacob Prasch. His name is Tim from Bethal church Ball Green. (Not connected to THAT Bethal!) Spirit filled, (but not mad charismatic), very down the earth whilst having a real grip of scripture. He's been such a blessing to me.
Wow, I have never heard of this from a Pastor. That’s insane. Thankfully my Pastors have always pleaded with members to study the Bible on their own and to pray all of the time. These have been Independent Fundamental Baptist Churches.
Raised an RC in the 50s and 60s I had a question from my catechism class, so when I got home I looked up the scripture in my family Bible. The next day I questioned the teacher about what I read did not seem to coincide with the catechism teaching. I was scolded for reading scripture without permission from a priest. Just one of the reasons why I am not an RC today.
I have been Roman Catholic for 65 years and I love God’s Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church and the seven sacraments it provides to us. Peace be with you, my brothers in Christ. I hope and pray you someday come home to His one true Church.
@@mikecastelluccio7072I’ve heard this said before but I don’t know what the deeper meaning is. Can you help me please? What is meant by the “one true church?“ second question: does that mean that anybody who doesn’t belong to the one true church is lost for eternity?
You and MacArthur are absolutely right! My pastor even regularly preaches words to the effect of, “Know your Bible and check out what I or anyone else teaches; and if I’m the only source or truth you’re hearing, then you need to seek out more teachers.”
In the Anglican Church Of Canada we are encouraged to read the Bible at home and with friends. We’re also encouraged to talk about it and ask questions.
Thank you for sharing this, Matt. At one previous church I went to, the pastor and Bible study leaders did not want me watching Christian videos on RUclips unless they had been approved by their church. Red flag. I left that church.
I'm a conservative evangelical pastor and I don't know any pastors who would want this banned....Dr. Mac was spot on....who are the pastors that would ban this?
I can think of several types of pastors who would. Typically those who are non-denominational or Pentecostal in nature. Or those like the Pope or Catholic Church in general.
I personally know one preacher who wouldn't allow it for sure. Quite a bit of what was taught was not Biblical. Imo he wanted control over the flock. Especially the women.
@@garylefevers Just like Pastor Mac said...a congreation does not try to obey the pastor...we have not authority in the life of the people who attend my church, and I don't want any. The world of God and His Holy Spirit have authority.
MANY pastors are selling false hope for the devil. False hope = when millions upon millions disappear in the rapture. Father gave me a waking vision of in the clouds, HE let me see how FEW have a relationship with Jesus. We are restricted by second after second, whereas God can move up and down our timeline. God is not held back by linear time. This is why God is the Alpha and Omega. The beginning and the end. Before the foundations of the world, God saw down our timeline and saw who would call upon Him and who would reject Him, hence He also knew what Judas would do. So those God saw who would choose Him He called his elect. Jesus didn't come because of His elect but rather came because all have sinned and no one was worthy.
Yes! Biblical authority is given by scripture. Respect and honor are due to those in authority and not total obedience which is only reserved for God and Christ.
@@justojustWhich one, though? The one without the Apocrypha? The one that contains the Book of Enoch? There isn't just one Bible. And what do you teach that it says? The Bible is the Church's book. The Church, under the guidance of the Spirit, decided which books were in the Bible, and it is the Church, under the guidance of the Spirit, that interprets it, NOT the individual. Individuals reading and interpreting Scripture has led fundamentalists to come close to preaching Gnosticism. But it's very attractive to Americans, because it glorifies the individual. Thing is, the Church is a community, not just a bunch of individuals.
I've seen this clip before and while I don't go along with all that John McArthur says, this is 100% correct. Jesus is the head of His church, no arguments
That was John MacArthur, one of the most respectable of all pastors I have had the pleasure to study under. I was raised in the Episcopal church and aside from my family not believing in the Trinity, I never saw a Bible being read in our home. It is a true joy for me, at the age of 76, to now have The Lord truly in my life and daily reading my Bible brings me amazing joy and grace. GOD BLESS YOU FOR YOUR CHANNEL, and I know He will richly bless you. ❤
Another biblical truth, Matt. I have been told by a pastor to tell people not to attend home group because they attended a different fellowship. After 5 years they are still attending and enjoying the scripture teaching.
The idea that you are "not allowed to study or pray at home with friends" comes right out of the darkest of the dark ages when "they" were burning Christians at the stake.
One of the few topics that I totally agree with this channel on! Pastors have NO AUTHORITY over the lives of their congregants to control their lives in any way, shape, or form!
I decided about 30+ years ago when I started feeling doubtful about certain 'things' at conferences etc. the blessed Holy Spirit inspired me to run everything by the Word of God. Especially evangelists etc. Even the Church I belonged to I felt it was heading the wrong way when women became pastors etc. so now I mostly watch Rev John MacArthur and 100% the Word of God.
The trouble is I like Johm Mcarthur but he is a strong calvinist and i just don't see calvinism as being biblical in any way, otherwise i enjoy his sermons but we diverge on the calvinist doctrine.
Been there!!!! I was so damaged but God healed me and have moved on. A church where leadership thinks they can't be questioned which my husband did but I was blamed for disrespect. Calvary Chapels can be wonderful but one in Mills River NC is scary
My son went to a bible study at a Pentecostal church once, and asked the ministry to show him in the bible where it teaches this practice that they where teaching on. He was told that he was a trouble maker and was not allowed to go to that bible study again. God protects his true sheep, if you know what I mean.😘
I've experienced abuse of spiritual "power", for lack of a better term; in both arminiam and calvinistic type churches. What I love about MacArthur is he ALWAYS refers back to the word as the final source of authority, vs say calvary chapels that have the so-called Moses model of leadership, where they tell you don't question the Lord's anointed, taking that Scripture totally out of context.
Amen! The Calvary Chapel “system” reminds me of the seven letters to the seven churches in Revelation. If Christ were writing a church to Calvary Chapel, He would say something like this. I commend you for going verse by verse through My word, however, I have this against you. You fail to abide by what My word says about your role. I did not divinely inspire the Calvary Chapel Distinctives. Those are merely a creation of one man (Chuck Smith) to justify dictator like control over the church.Repent now and return to the simplicity of My word.
@@afterdarkness-light That very well may be true, but I’ve been involved with several CC’s (and even taught at Calvary Bible College), and my experience is that all the pastors act as mini dictators and do not have true elders. Chuck Smith, in his Calvary Chapel Distinctives says that the “pastor” is to appoint elders and if they don’t agree the pastor, the pastor should get rid of them and appoint elders who do agree with the pastor. That form and abuse of power is nowhere mentioned in scripture. I’ve challenged every Calvary pastor to show me biblically where this system is mentioned in the Bible. Not a single one of them will even sit down and discuss it Biblically. To man, they just wave their hand and say this debate has been gong on for 300 years and they aren’t going to discuss it.
@@kiheidude That is so true. As much as I respect Chuck Smith, he got that and a few other things wrong. Similar to John Piper and the "christian hedonism" he invented.
@@richardhargraves9867 I used to listen to McArther until I discovered Michael Heiser and The Bible project. After learning from Hebrew scholars and theologians some the true meanings of terminology that has been misinterpreted in translation of Bible. McArthur either doesn’t keep up with newer understanding of text because of archeological finds of that time, or he doesn’t choose to change his preaching. I’m not a feminist, however his message on women is off base. God didn’t make Eve to be subordinate to Adam. She was made to be his partner. The words used to describe her were both structural as if she was part of a structure with him, helper as a warrior in battle to defend man . MacArthur said that the curse when Eve sinned was by God, the text indicates that as a result of their sin that women would have problems within her relationships brought on by conception, not pain in child birth, which is suffered by every mammal. God didn’t curse woman ….. He told her the result of bringing sin into the world. That’s a big difference.
@@lionoffireraw Can you explain the passionate distancing from Calvinism please? Genuinely interested and ignorant (possibly). This is a term that God is frequently showing me at the moment. Thank you!
@@lionoffireraw OK, I read a bit more a few comments down. I watched a video from Matthew Everhard yesterday called "Why the Calvin Hatred?". It's an interesting, level-headed explanation of the anti-Calvin question. I'm new BTW :)
A Pastor of a Church I was attending, told me because I was doing street evangelism which wasn't sanctioned by him...I had a spirit of individuality. I was also told I didn't have authority to pray for people within the church. The same Pastor had his entire eldership resign after I left..and then told the Church they were being replaced with faithful people. And we wonder why Church attendance is on the decline.
Thanks for witnessing the Gospel of Christ despite opposition. He was probably angry because you were doing what he was called to do as a pastor. Most pastors hate anyone who they believe to be any kind of threat to their headship as in 3rd John.
@@ValLeeWeblog Amen! I've been drawn to John, because he was "beloved". The book of 1 John is so powerful and is the perfect treatise on Christian living today. We are to be performing the will of the Father, which is to believe in the one He sent (His son Jesus), and we are to follow Jesus Christ's Commands, which are to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself. My favorite passage explaining the Greatest Commandment is in Mark chapter 12.
@ValLeeWeblog Yes I've always said the pulpit is a breeding place for arrogance for too many. I recall being invited to do a teaching of my choosing, at a certain Church. Because the subject went over so well..as the was a lineup of people wanting to talk further on the message...I was never asked to teach there again. Surprised??
@lionoffireraw, Well said, my friend, well said indeed. I, too, was told by my pastor to discontinue a Bible study at our home (we were plodding thru the WCF). The reason is that he was the Church's teacher and not me. In saying that he put himself above the Holy Spirit as teacher of all truth. Ultimately the church collapsed and he got booted from the ministry by the denomination on account of alleged psych/spiritual abuse of his children. He was definitely narcissistic. Macarthur's comments were spot on too. Thank you my friend.
No it's not, since worship is part of our relationship with the Lord. It sounds like you're saying that worship is somehow "extra" to our relationship with God.
I haven’t been to a church in a long time. I just gave my life to Christ 4 years ago. I grew up going to church 2 times a week. I learned the “religion.” I’ve read the Bible 3 times now fully, on my 4th, also will read/study the Bible daily. Reading it for myself and removing the religion I learned, well trying to forget it, I have learned a lot that is false that is being preached in most churches. I definitely won’t attend a mega/big church. Any church passing an offering plate isn’t biblical either. So I’m looking for a church, I just found Good Fight Ministries, pastor Joe Shimmel’s church, on RUclips. I think I’m going to tune into that one for church service. I like what he preaches, preaches Bible.
This scripture from Matthew 29 has guided me as a pastor: 25But Jesus called them aside and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their superiors exercise authority over them. 26It shall not be this way among you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave- 28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
Thank you. When Jesus disciples were sleeping and he came to them and told to them they should not sleep but pray. He came to them the second time and said to them that they weren't praying but he didn't scold them or try to control them. Another typical example is Rehoboam. The elders told him the truth but he didn't listen the didn't try to control him or manipulate him. Sometimes, one should see the thin line between control, manipulation and advice. When one seeks to twist the word of God to make you feel guilty you are being manipulated. The spirit of God does not condemn Romans 8: 1-3.
So did we in Australia, my husband and I are survivors of the fake Christian church cults. We over a 20 year period moved, 5 separate churches we attended in this time, all had dreadful people problems and spiritual warfare attacked us. Each church destroyed as numbers built up, full of problems with Deacons and Ministers and people and/or members. 2 were hit with spiritual warfare so bad, a deacon at each of the 2 churches screeching, leaving my hairs standing up and cold inside and my skin. There were those people who could not see, or could not stand up to the deacons and minister of these "christian churches", people jumped on this "run away train", where the derailment of truth, facts', were so sadly obvious, which disintegrated the people of the churches, split family and friends and the community through children/yourh programmes stopping and members of the church became sick, inflicted with respiratory impacts, the stress of watching what was happening and attempting to speak-up, made me a target and one deacon of the last church we attended pushed my pen I was holding into my stomach, i turned my wrist and the pen was drawing on his shirt etc. I miscarriaed a few days later. I was 3 months pregnant. We should not give power to Ministers, Deacons etc. As many are running in the wrong spirit. More to this story, another time. From my lived experience to form my opinion. As opposed to what? I get a kick out of the people who call themselves "Bible believing Christians", as if the rest of us don't believe the Bible! What do they think we believe, the Necronomicon? Lol. Its just a pious-lookong way of saying "I'm better than you!"
There's a lot of churches that twist things around so they can do the things in the world and it makes them feel like their not doing nothing wrong but people that go to a church that takes the BIBLE serious and speak the truth then that's a BIBLE church. I'm not saying we're perfect neither we just want to speak the truth. GOD doesn't change anything people do.
Christian teachers, and especially Pastors, need to remember what Matthew 23:2 instructs, and that is; not to consider yourself as the final authority, sitting in the "chair of Moses."
I was taken off the speaking schedule at a church in NC, years ago because 3 members complained to the hireling pastor that I said things that they did not teach. I only read 5 verses, from scripture, and commented on them. The hireling called me and said he was removing me from the speaking schedule, and this was on the input from three men that were there that day. The hireling said he had not listened to the tape. I mailed a letter to all in the congregation letting them know I was not returning. That did not go over well. The hireling mishandled the whole thing. In that church, truth came from Headquarters, not the scriptures.
@@WeneedthinkingAmericans Maybe same church We went to. Wants a list of your medications, sign that you will unreservedly not question his decisions. Early NT churches were overseen by a plurality of elders, not a single lone ranger pastor. The reason why some of these pastors are controlling is because they are too ignorant to realise that they are controlled by an unclean spirit. And, that unclean spirit seeks to suppress and hinder members of the local congregation from using their gifts to edify and build up the body; thus bringing the body into maturity as the apostle Paul elaborated in Corinthians. Thanks for having the courage to testify Matt against these corrupt religious despots.
Um, no, the early Christian communities were led by presbiters, the representatives of the Apostles. Apart from Acts, which wasn't meant to describe actual worship or Church leadership, we have no Biblical descriptions at all about early Christian worship. Working vackwards from what we know about the Church that came out of the Catacombs after the Peace of Cinstantine, the early Church looked nothing like modern Christian fundamentalism. They were centered on the Eucharist, not on hysterical possession by spirits.
I have seen authority abused in the church. But I also believe the leaders have a heavy job. There's indication that they have to give account for how they lead. But there are principles in the Bible that need to be followed, which the leader has authority to help their congregation to know how to put it to practice in everday living. I am reminded of what happened to Aaron and Miriam when they resisted Moses and complained against him. It makes me stop and ask myself if I have a rebellious heart. I believe if a leader isnt leading in the fear of the Lord in the church,he shouldn't be leading! Just my thoughts....
Brilliant short video! The problem with many of our churches is that we all have little Popes. For me, a red flag goes up as soon as a pastor wants to be addressed as pastor.
Pastors have no authority over born again believers. They are to lead by example and by teaching but the only authority for the Born again believer is the holy Spirit who lives in them.
If a Pastor told me that I'm not permitted to hold a group Bible Study in my home I would still have it just as long as others were desiring to participate. I can understand that a Pastor might ask what we will be studying and what source or materials might be used in a particular study, and then give good Biblical guidance, advice and recommendations on what might be helpful.
I thank God that Jesus has proved himself reliable to answer all the big questions of life: origins, destination, morality, and meaning. Attempts to undermine the veracity of the Bible have failed for millennia. The Bible has been proven reliable historically and archaeologically, and fulfilled prophecy proves its Divine origin. The historic resurrection proves that Jesus is in fact, God. He fulfilled numerous specific prophecies, claimed to be God in the flesh, and then backed it up by rising from the dead. When anyone claims that we can’t know the answers, or something is not possible, they don’t realise that the answers have already been revealed. All of this truth is well-established, and even a cursory look on the Internet will reveal the evidence for this. The problem is that they don’t want to believe. They set up an arbitrary, subjective standard of evidence, (which means nothing), so in their minds they feel justified in not believing. But all the evidence is there 😃 See the channel: “Testify”, for evidence ⬇️ youtube.com/@testifyapologetics?si=sFJn_7F7ZvX-2EYp If you can believe this, there are actually people today (and I mean full grown adults!!), who believe that our ancestors are fish and bacteria!! I’m not joking 🤦🏼♂️
And that’s why I have so much respect for John MacArthur. I’ve found him faithful to the ENTIRE word of God. You’ll hear pastors and churches say, “We follow the Bible,” but you find as time goes on that they follow parts of the Bible that are acceptable to themselves or the denomination.
Part of the problem right out of the gate is this whole idea of "one pastor and one pastor's vision" leadership, which in my view is not even Biblical. From my understanding of New Testament Scripture, leadership is supposed to be eldership-based with multiple potential pastors/teachers. It never was a one-man show and still should not be a one-man show.
We were told the same thing. "You are not allowed to have a Bible Study at your home unless a pastor, deacon or whatever is there." I guess to spy on you, that I ignored.
The early church, as researched in 'Pagan Christianity' (Viola & Barna, 2008), was egalitarian. Everybody had an opportunity to contribute to the building up of the body. We have completely lost this liberating practice unfortunately.
Your former church had/has a weak, insecure leader that the escape route to keep control over the congregation is to have the leader make up his/her own human rules, which results in being a cult leader to some level. I was in a church that the senior pastor retired and a new one was hired, which ended up being a weak leader and was easily manipulated by an understaff. That understaff was quickly able to control how the church was running and the congregation was blinded by the understaff's charisma. The board was extremely weak in that they did nothing. I am very happy to say that eventually that understaff was fired, but not until the damage was done. (this was during Covid) The church closed down.
Thank you, Brother, for a solid, biblical video that many church leaders need to hear. Overbearing pastors are a serious problem, but the opposite can be just as bad. My last pastor was very weak and refused to question or correct anyone in the church, including those on staff. He openly admitted serious problems while speaking with me outside of the earshot of others. But then admitted that he would never question them or tell them what they should do. How can he be the pastor and refuse to lead?
Amen. Sometimes when we really start to go into the word of God, there is knowledge that will lead to questions and I start to ask about it most pastors told me I'm wrong and think I am wise and then the golden cover up is"you are unteachable and you are not welcome in the church. I went to Gal. 1:6-10 and start to measure the truth of the a preacher against the word of God
And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all. - Mark 9:35 KJV
John is right with this. Had a similar experience 40 yrs ago. Pasters abusing authority. There are a lot of Christian’s outside churches as a result. It’s a shame.
I do not believe that any pastoral office as exercised in contemporary churches is biblical. The simple readon is because we do not see any sich office in the bible. There os the office of a pastor in new testament but this is far from what we see nowadays. You cannot use some biblical word, apply it in a contemporary context and then claim to be biblical by referringto that word. I believe in biblical leadership and I believe in what the bible calls the circle of elders. Bishops, in contrast (one person having the highest office and authority, even ober elders) is an invention of the second century. Go study church history and you will find that this is true. Even in the church in Jerusalem you find in the book of acts that the whole congregations (or at least the men) discussed important topics together with the elders. However, "church life" as it is practised today is very far off from how the original church practised their faith.
Philippians 2:12-13 'Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.' I actually had an elder in a church tell me that we couldn't have a women's bible study without 'supervision'.
This is why I do not go to Church anymore - Rampant Church politics, manipulative preaching, woke beliefs in Church, ridiculous tongue speaking, worship that is all about US having a feeling or experience, unbiblical songs which are not Christ centred, being told I am healed when I am not and to believe I am healed even if I am clearly not and blaming me for not being healed. My faith has never been stronger and I have never been closer to God without going to Church and yes I will be healed by the grace of God but I am not going to kid myself I am when I am not.
You make very good points, but not all churches are like that. Totally agree and understand about your healing situation. It's not your fault you are not healed. God's timing and will are his prerogative. A sick Christian is no less than a healthy one. A poor Christian is no less than a rich one.
I'm in the same situation as you. These woke churches fawn over the queer community but bash sick Christians, with unscriptural accusations.: "You must've sinned, "You need more faith" "Just be more positive ". They've made church the most unwelcome place for sick believers. Judgement is coming to these woke churches.
John MacArthur's theology is right on. What I don't agree on is his selection of sermon topics which emphasize/de-emphasize certain topics which may be seen as political.
Thank you so much for posting. When I saw the tagline on the video I wondered what I was going to see. I am so sorry you have had the experience that you've had. I will definitely be watching more of your videos after seeing this. God bless you.
IMO a pastor's " authority " ends at the door of his church. I do not entirely agree with pastor McArthur. A pastor does have authority in his church so long as the elders of that church deem it expedient. Beyond that door no pastor nor priest may interfere in a person's life. We carry The Word of God with us out into the world and THAT is our final authority in all matters.....not the pastor's will. God's will as it is expressed in His Word is always the last word.....always.
That's not the typical advice most pastors give, but occasionally I have seen this. As a Christian 47 years not only leave that pastor but publicly warn others.
I haven't had a pastor try to have unscriptural authority over me but some friends have. I don't allow them. My favorite question to respond with is "What Scripture do you use?" For example one friend tried to tell me listening to Christian metal doesn't honor God.
Would not get into specifics openly here, but absolutely understand where you are coming from. My whole family experienced a great deal of “Pastoral abuse “ in the past. It is likely a very pervasive issue in the church.

This is the difference between a church and a cult. A church follows the Scripture; a cult follows the leader.
I went to a CRC church that was very controlling
It was a cult
Obey your pastor 😳
Wow
I tell you what it is
It is the Jezebel spirit
Exactly, well said!❤
All cults, just different approaches to "scripture"
Exactly, you served it in a nutshell.
My pastor encourages the congregation to read and study the Bible at home.
Like it should be done. My pastor encourages this as well.
Pretty much all pastors do. I suspect in this guy's case he's being a bit short on the truth and there's a good reason why his pastor said this.
Shocking!
Yip, many church pastors and leaders will want this deleted.
There’s only One Head of the church - and His name is Jesus.
Shalom 🕊️
Well I responded but it's gone now ...

Spot on John MacArthur. God is the only authority, as revealed in His Word, the Bible.
Who chose the books that is in the bible? Can you show me in the bible that God chose what books would be in the bible?
No authority? It's an insane answer. The apostle Paul gives pastors various instructions which depend on the pastor having authority. On what did Paul base his instructions? The Word? No. On principles of good authority which later became accepted as the Word. But as with all authority everywhere, pastors only have the authority required to fulfill their responsibility up to the line of their disobeying a higher authority. If he can't explain how it helps him fullfill his role as a pastor, OR, it contravenes any biblical principle, he's out of line.

Control, no , guideness - yes
Hello Rick Mills, Yes "The Word is sufficient for correction, rebuke, and exhortation. (2 Tim. 4:2)." But it is also incumbent upon the leadership with in the church to act upon the authority of God's Word. When any individual within the walls not just within the body of a church to keep all individuals accountable for their actions when it comes to sin. When I say "with in the walls" I am referring to any individual who comes as a wolf in sheep's clothings. Just as democrats have slowly eroded the American dream Satan uses any and all means to destroy the Lords Chruch.
@RebelMerc 100% this.
As a Pastor , you need to protect the flock . Church discipline is Biblical and in extreme cases, removal from the fellowship. This has nothing to do with control or heavy shepherding.
Everything must be done in love and humility.

Matthew 18:18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be[e] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[f] loosed in heaven.
19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
Clearly the verse is about the dealings, operation, and decisions of the Church

We worship together, but our relationship with the Lord is an individual relationship.
No it's not, since worship is part of our relationship with the Lord. It sounds like you're saying that worship is somehow "extra" to our relationship with God.
Great episode, thank you Matthew!
PRAISE the LORD confirmation prophetic message in LORD JESUS CHRIST of NAZARETH name
If anyone, like myself,is leaving a church because they are not being fed,
I found my Church on line with Pastor JD Farag.
You will be blessed.✨🙏🌟
This scripture from Matthew 29 has guided me as a pastor:
25But Jesus called them aside and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their superiors exercise authority over them.
The truth has authority, if you speak what is true and right you speak with authority.
John MacArthur said "None". I heard this before. Love John MacArthur.
Love Johnny Mac . I too escaped an abusive church .

I'm glad I go to a BIBLE CHURCH.
Me too! We study it and our pastor is actually on fire for God! Even talk about sin
I'm a pastor and I totally agree
Ditto
The situation was damaging to my health and my children and their children. One is still away from God over it and another still angry.
Very sad as people who supposedly were my friends; were lied to and now shun us.
The bishop was the head pastor.
@@RobertEWaters can you show us where the bible states that? Thank you
Um, no, the early Christian communities were led by presbiters, the representatives of the Apostles.
You got it right !
Spot on. And Jesus said in Mark 10:42-45
Whoever desires to be great among you shall be your servant....
John MacArthur is right on. Thank you Matthew. Another excellent video
As a pastor I approve of this video and I think it should be seen by more people.
God bless you. Matt 🙏
We also have had more than one "pastor" say to us, "You just don't understand" when they are questioned and have no Biblical answer.
I encourage my congregation to read the Bible and meditate on it. The Holy Spirit is the best Teacher!
Pastors have no authority over born again believers. They are to lead by example and by teaching but the only authority for the Born again believer is the holy Spirit who lives in them.
Then the false hiarchy putting the Pastor as the Head, needs to go! Acts Chirch!!🔥
Amen
The whole thing is about power & control. Too bad so many allow themselves to waste time on religion. I did for 30 years & want refund!
But all the evidence is there 😃

If you can believe this, there are actually people today (and I mean full grown adults!!), who believe that our ancestors are fish and bacteria!! I’m not joking 🤦🏼♂️
My former Pentecostal pastor forbid me for holding a Bible study at home, saying I could possibly start my own church, yes that happened
Obviously that was a good thing. I'm certain that you encourage your people to study the Bible and do not take anyone's word for it.
Isn't that how fundamentalist churches get their start?
Acts Chirch!! 5 Fold Ministry where we the people disciple one another and others. No hiarchy, no pastor worship just us doing the Bible together 🔥🔥
“Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.” 2nd Corinthians 1:24
We were told the same thing. "You are not allowed to have a Bible Study at your home unless a pastor, deacon or whatever is there." I guess to spy on you, that I ignored.
I am really happy that this pastor told the truth.
The early church, as researched in 'Pagan Christianity' (Viola & Barna, 2008), was egalitarian. Everybody had an opportunity to contribute to the building up of the body. We have completely lost this liberating practice unfortunately.
Acts Churches are coming back! Home worship where we all disciple together. No hiarchy just us following Jesus. 5 fold ministry
Thank you Matt for sharing.❤️✝️🙏🇺🇸
My pleasure!!
Yes, he was very insecure!
It is obvious to me and either your pastor or the church staff that pulled his strings were despots.
Thank you very, very much.
Yes, church doctrine, may have been corrupted by the enemy.
May? Has!🔥
Thank you, Brother, for a solid, biblical video that many church leaders need to hear.
As if we are robots. 🤖

We're under the Great Commission, not the Great Permission.
"too dangerous without church leadership" 😂 😂 😂 who do these people think they are?
They think they're Jesus actually. Like they have some higher knowledge or are closer to him. It's really disgusting.

John is right with this. Had a similar experience 40 yrs ago. Pasters abusing authority. There are a lot of Christian’s outside churches as a result. It’s a shame.

This is the problem people want to follow other people instead of Christ.
@@annelinebester5791pastor worship is a problem. Making leaders and teachers Idols. Sad.
Had a similar experience. Thanks for this video. 👍
I feel the same.
That’s not a church
@@michaelnewzealand1888Amen to that 🙏🏾🙏🏾
I'm in the same situation as you. These woke churches fawn over the queer community but bash sick Christians, with unscriptural accusations.: "You must've sinned, "You need more faith" "Just be more positive ". They've made church the most unwelcome place for sick believers. Judgement is coming to these woke churches.
May I ask you question, do you know of an absolute certain that you are going to Heaven when you die?
God and Jesus.

Thank you so much for posting. When I saw the tagline on the video I wondered what I was going to see. I am so sorry you have had the experience that you've had. I will definitely be watching more of your videos after seeing this. God bless you.
You are very welcome!
The Catholic church doesn't encourage bible study lest someone discovers the false doctrine taught. 2 Tim. 3:16 is for all who believe.
Onya, Matt. Good job. Keep it up. Thanks ❤
