Helsinki Music Centre concert hall, 10 October 2012
F natural at 4:38 is Beethoven's. Subsequent publishers printed F# thinking it was Beethoven's accidental omission. Most pianist's play the F#. That was my observation and written submission to Levin (during a Baltimore Symphony concert) which he picked out of basket of many submitted themes to be improvised upon in the style of Beethoven. My moment of fame.
Yes. Levin talked about it in an interview before the concert.
Fabulous
When he looked at my slip of staff paper with the F natural, he said, "This must be some kind of inside musical joke."
Gets my like just for the cadenza.
Gerbil Jim In his recording on a 1795 Walter fp with Gardiner/ORR, his 1st mvt cadenza also begins its final trill run on the same note (13:55 here) and also ends it by resolving to c3 (the highest C available on pianos for which this work was conceived) from a2/b2 (immediately below c3), at 14:07 here. I'm beginning to think this is his protocol as to minimise confusion with the conductor/orchestra
However, the recording's 1st mvt cadenza is over a minute longer than what he conjured in this concert.
Is he playing the tutti part I saw him playing chords with the orchestra before the piano solo comes in
improvised cadenza? its wonderful =D
Cadenza at 12:11
Do you have that interview?
