Four octaves of Bb…. That is INSANELY impressive!!!! I can only go up to three, but the fact that you did four consistently and still with good tone.. AMAZING!!!!
He actually played a trumpet double g, he played a tuba f6 (concert pitch) which transposes to a trumpet g (b flat pitch) 4 ledger lines above the staff
A little physics note: If you can play the F on the top of the treble clef on a trombone, you can do it in 5 different positions. If you can squeak out the A-flat above it you can do it in all seven positions. With a tuba, you are effectively playing an octave higher on the harmonic scale and you really don't need valves any more.
As a beginning tuba player, the highest note I can play is a high B flat, but this is only my first year in the school band, so I'm still looking forward to it! I know the tuba is written for maybe half as high, but I still hope to one day play around that note!
I also play tuba, the highest note I can play is the bflat ABOVE the staff since I have experience with euphonium. Edit: After a years worth of practice i can play very high Eb
When I was ~4 years into playing my range was from Bb0 to Bb3. but I’ve gotten a bigger mouthpiece (Bach 7) and experience with a bass T-Bone now so my range is from Bb-1 to Bb4 which is (I think) 5 octaves. Btw this isn’t my “playable” range just my lowest and highest. My playable is probably Bb0 to C4 but I’ve never had to go that high or low.
Rather than relying on your top lip to buzz, maybe you should shift the mouthpiece off to your right side of your embouchure. Your right side appears to be the stronger side.
I can play Bb in 5 octaves on my tuba, pedal, under the staff, in the staff above the staff and double above the staff, that one not as well but can hit it
Coming from a violin/euphonium player, playing high notes is squeezing your lips very tightly. When you go very high, there is almost no gap between your lips which makes the note very hard to produce.
