Simply put, Johnny Adams is one of histories greatest voices. I grew up in New Orleans, and even though I was too young, I worked in nightclubs, such as Mason's Las Vegas Strip. So, I would see Mr. Adams perform, his voice was otherworldly, arching, powerful, and he'd hit these incredibly piercing high notes This man was gifted, and I am so happy see a live performance by johnny adams
100% agree, I think one of the most versatile singers and so little recognition. I wish I could have seen him live. He left us a wonderful catalogue of recordings.
I do love the story of how he was discovered. His neighbor heard him singing in the shower, she suggested he come and record....neighbor was Dorothy Labostre (sp?) who wrote the song Tutti Frutti.
We had him at the Sacrament Blues Fest in the late 90s - He caused quite a stir !! There was a group of 20 something babes that had followed him over from San Francisco where he played the night before ! Charles was my wife's fave !!
@@putnaythomas8629 Thank you for your reply. You'd be surprised at how amazing he sounded on vinyl LP's with a high end sound system. Unfortunately, I lost everything in a Wildfire that swept through my area on October 9, 2017.
My favorite old school Rhythm & BLUES singer (he could sing just about any style, though). A powerhouse vocalist. Used to be known in New Orleans as "The Voice". Man, I've learned allot from this cat! Thank you Johnny! You could really lay some pipe!
Could that club get anymore Geriatric than that? Body & Fender Man is a hot bluesy, soul shouting song and this guy has a great shreek! It hit those on the head. He's good. Better than that band... Never heard of George ,? But I'm a huge Johnny Adams fan! Thanks for sharing!
What a fabulous perfomance from the whole band. A perfect lesson in ensemble playing. Dynamics to die for! Stunning rhythm section. Wild and passionate guitar solo. His voice is quite exceptional in its range and soul. What more could you want? Masterful! Can anyone name the band members?
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this -- I was lucky enough to see him at the 1996 New Orleans Heritage Festival -- truly one of the all time greatest voices !!
I keep hearing Tom Jones comparisons. No offense intended towards Tom Jones, but he never possessed the range or the soul of Johnny Adams. I would put Johnny in an exclusive club with Otis Redding,David Ruffin,Ray Charles,Marvin Gaye.
I had the pleasure of playing bass for Johnny Adams at the zephyr Club in Salt Lake City I never met a singer that was easier to follow than Johnny Adams I will never forget him
Johnny admired tom jones I know because i got very close with him touring in Europe .Just not as famous johnny is no doubt one of the finest voices from the melting pot that is the big easy

336 likes and it should have seven million. I swear, like is just not fair sometimes. The most soulful singer I ever saw live and I miss him.

How hard is to find blues vocalists solids as a rock... I watched him long long time ago in Spain... This is a true man howlin' blues!
Such a great musical legacy. Fabulous singer. Great showman. Superb taste in songs. KILLER band.
Jon Cleary-keys
George Porter Jr-bass
Danny Caron-guitar
Kenny Blevins-drums
Thanks for the lineup.
I've met that whole backing band except for Kenny Blevins.
Fantastic drummer.

The 'tan canary' himself! Much as I love Percy Mayfield (esp. Danger Zone, River's Invitation), Adams nailed this song when he covered it in 1990
Yeh U Rite!
Yeah El Canario Azabache!!!... Great great great!
I own 5 of Johnny Adams's LP's. This is the first video I've ever seen of him. WOW!! I only wish I could have seen him in person!!!
Where is he? Johnny died in 1998....
Johnny was a personal friend of mine and he was way better live then on the CDs if you can believe that

I. Can second that!
Johnny Adams was just unbelievable. A great singer.
My favorite old school Rhythm & BLUES singer (he could sing just about any style, though). A powerhouse vocalist. Used to be known in New Orleans as "The Voice". Man, I've learned allot from this cat! Thank you Johnny! You could really lay some pipe!
He was also called "The Tan Canary"
I was at Jazz Fest that year, fantastic show!
Johnny is the coolest, ever!
Wish I was there. What a voice. Unsung. MASTER.
Yep Blevins on drums Cleary wow porter and that guitar player wow

That sure looks like Jon Cleary on piano
Very blurry but think that is George Porter Jr. on bass.
DANNY CARON, guittaahh
Wow !! Enough said.
The Tan Canary with an exceptionnal band, made my first days of 2024, thanx.
Nice band - they're on fire! Sing on!
That's how a snare drum should sound!
So funky you got Charles Brown boppin’ in the front row!😂
Unique voice, unequalled. Soul singer to the core .....
Johan Broersma great comment and so true he was the man
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this -- I was lucky enough to see him at the 1996 New Orleans Heritage Festival -- truly one of the all time greatest voices !!
I love this and I loved the studio LP Walking on a Tightrope. I talked with Johnny Adams on the phone once in the early '90s he was vary nice.
and I would put Johnny Adams above all those mentioned, alone - solo - at the top. I never had any doubt about that.
This made me smile have not seen this one
I keep hearing Tom Jones comparisons. No offense intended towards Tom Jones, but he never possessed the range or the soul of Johnny Adams. I would put Johnny in an exclusive club with Otis Redding,David Ruffin,Ray Charles,Marvin Gaye.
I think they did have naturally similar voices, but you're right, Johnny could do things with his that Tom Jones has never been able to do.
AMEN...
Agree, agree... add Buddy Guy. All OUTstanding!
The definition of underrated. God I love this.
complete agreeeee
I had the pleasure of playing bass for Johnny Adams at the zephyr Club in Salt Lake City I never met a singer that was easier to follow than Johnny Adams I will never forget him
Can't believe I missed that show. His voice blew me away. Fantastic!!!
I didn't realize that he performed outside of New Orleans. Must have been an incredible experience working with him!
just wow cant describe how good this is thanks for posting
GR8 VID Of A Master!
That..giant bassist man...shit. First time I think what my eyes was wrong, but than when he came closer to John...shit...he is big)
The 🎶Man I want to be when I grow up ⬆️
Johnny admired tom jones I know because i got very close with him touring in Europe .Just not as famous johnny is no doubt one of the finest voices from the melting pot that is the big easy
Someone told me that he had a 5 octave range on his voice. That is otherworldly.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
⚜️🎶 🎭 ‘Jonny Adams’ time has Come 🥊🥊🙏🏼✝️🍦
@mellodc as an aside Danny Caron was Charles Brown's guitarist...beautiful
I found this from a Proto screwdriver key with Johnny Adams stamped on the back.
This was rehearsal/sound check obviously
That's a young Jon Cleary...and whatever happened to Kenny Blevins?
Smooth.
Jon Cleary in the house..lol
yep hard to recognize him under that big hat! lol
damn
Was that The Charles Brown at the front table?
+Thomas Nosser YES IT WAS!
Danny Caron was Charles Brown's guitar player
I have just ask that question on another video I was watching. wow and the answer was yes
Johnny ✌✌✌
Marinoni Claudio in Milan
Oh my back
DANNY CARON : guitar
On the CD yes, not on this video.
Thanks for the info.... the pictures I found didn't look like him. We were all beautiful 50 years ago.
sigh, and some of these people are gone.
Yes he is Danny Caron in this video too.
SUGGEST DIG UP the Percy Mayfield lp on B-wick, insert the eponymous track, find the guittaahh solo of the century by WAYNE BENNETT .... = !!!
tell me all about the band
Mick ようく聴いておくんだ❗
He sounds like tom Jones or is it tom Jones sounds like johnny Adams ?
I had the pleasure to play with Johnny Adams at the Zephyr club SLC never met a singer easer to follow
Tom Jones WISHES he could sound like Johnny...
@@robertmcnown3272 Right you are. Tom Jones gets a lot more attention, but Johnny is real and Tom's cheesy.
The backing band, however, does look like a pack of vampires, They could've been written by Anne Rice! Good, though.
Damnn no comennt
