This guy is the design chef, so it’s evident that he will tell you only about the design, especially that this is a concept car, so it’s made for show and not for the drive.
I agree with you. I just watched the whole thing and I didn't get a single lotus vibe. So much talk about ergonomics and mood lighting, very little about actual engineering design and performance which is what lotus has always been about. Everything seemed to be orientated around "UI" and nothing to do with the power, suspension.
Someone's imagination was on fire when this was dreamed. The super-science in this car is certainly mingled with the bright stuff of an incredible future.
“Analog and digital are words. We are going to use those words while talking about this concept car. This car has a top and I’m going to use the word digital. This car has a side and now I’m going to use the word analog.” Makes perfect sense to me
Love this design. The high contrast angular body and the texture of the forged carbon interior. Honest materials and a cohesive concept, well executed. Please make this
And so the cyberpunk era of cars begins. The design looks amazing, the middle driving position is really interesting, but it draws some questions about security, like being able to integrate seat belts seamlessly. Of course it’s a concept car, but it would be interesting to see how a production car looks like. On the other side, it wasn’t specified, but this much space in the cabin would only seem to be possible with an electric engine configuration. I’d also love to see how this integrates with Lotus’s low weight, fun car concept. Without a doubt the future’s here and I’m all for it!
Absolutely incredible. First modern concept that my jaw dropped. This is what I want in a design. The door design and functionality is outstanding - a solution to a long-standing design problem. Demonstrates sincere attention to detail. Phenomenal.
I'm 17, And that means I'm forced to grow up into a world that will be full of eclectic, automatic and relatively non-combustion vehicles. Although that truth is sad I feel honored that there are people and companies - like those at Lotus - that are not afraid to be bold and make the most of the future to come, even better they are helping bring that future to the present. Realistically I'll never be able to afford nor drive a car like this, but I'm grateful machines like this are finally here. Good on you all at Lotus
@GAFUKIS and seen what? Customers do not want EVs , that's why the nevera sold around a third of it's intended units. Mate Rimac himself said customers don't want EVs. They are sterile slop
@chrisjames7803 not really, a full scale concept study is useful to iron out the kinks of the design. Ofc they have made the 3d model first and foremost, but you could only see and feel so much through a screen. Anyway, more and more of these fullscale studies were made using recyclable materials to push your agendas, so you should be celebrating it
Finally something distinctive and interesting. Design of supercars in the last 5-10 years was universally approaching a singular shape due to aerodynamic requirements. My only critique is that the door opening speed needs to be at least tripled.
Lotus... invite Harry Metcalffe, give him a coffee and a conversation with Ben for halve an hour. You will get 25 X more views, a far more interesting and thorough video and most importantly: NO IRRITATING BACKGROUND MUSIC!!!
look at the way he steps out of the car, if he had any passengers he would have to sit on their laps to get out, or climb over their legs. it looks cool but it's not practical at all.
Awesome - can't wait to see the production models that incorporate some of these features! One thing though. Please put a proper ICE engine it it. I'd even accept, at a pinch a hybrid.
Cool, but what exactly is next? Another SUV? Another big GT weighing 2.5 tons? Is all this work going to be wasted for better speakers in a new, heavy SUV? I assume that making a production car exactly like this would be very expensive and unprofitable. But that was the idea - that SUVs and GTs would make money, and sports cars would give fun to users and satisfaction to their creators. Without this, Lotus will lose its sense of existence and will be just a name for Chinese EVs.
masterpiece the lotus design team is the best in the game right now .....all models are ahead of their time compared to way bigger brands with billion dollar budgets
When I was in high school (1990), I went to a car show in Atlanta. I saw "future cars" back then that looked similar to this. Don't hold your breath for this to come out. That front end won't look like that when they are forced to put a bumper on it.
Some stunningly beautiful design accents which will hopefully trickle down into production. I particularly like the exposing of the mechanical elments and the idea of a Lotus that you can get in and out of with relative ease. The OLED panel that 'talks to you' feels a bit gimmicky, i'd be interested to know the real world practical application. As echoed by many in the comments, please, please, don't stop producing ICE vehicles. The market has demonstrated there's little appetite for combining Supercar performance and price-tags with fully electric. There's a reason why despite having all the music you could ever want accessible on your mobile phone, vinyl sales continue to soar. You can't reproduce the textural experience of analogue with sanitised digital. I'm digressing into the broader EV debate, but its particularly relevant to Lotus (even more than standard car manufacturers), because Lotus are founded on the Drivers experience and connection with the vehicle.
At long last the future loo like it's here. It's a stunning car. It's a lotus which means it will be an absolute dream around a track. Amazing job lotus

Looks like a Bullet from the side. I think the black and white gives this LA police 🚔 car vibe. At least you have the colour of the lotus logo changed, it looks sleek and classy instead of that bold yellow and black logo that looks like a Sticker and ruins the image of the car. I presume its a powerful EV, not a an attention-seeking, stinky, loud, slow old-timer combustion concept. Who has time for the doors to open and close and the steering wheel to come closer to you ...
