Well, the answer it's not so simple. I'm buying both, but my decision is based on the image quality which they produce. If IQ is good enough or they have unique 'picture' they I will buy cheaper even plasticy lens, and sometimes I will reach deep to my pocket to buy very expensive lens e.g. Canon RF 50mm F1.2;) I don't like aperture ring on the lens but i would love to have them all [ I series lens from Sigma] if I had Sigma fp - small & compact setup;)
Sometimes it's about the shooting experience. That sigma lens looks like a beauty. I wish Sigma would hurry up and start making these for the Nikon Z system.
Yeah i need more compact and pretty looking lenses for Nikon Z. Absolutely no other reason then for my own happiness and fun :P. Thats the only thing I miss from leaving Fuji
Yes agree with you pay little more you’ll be happy what you get from sigma. I got mine for $350 brand new I really like it alots and enjoy taken photos n carry around.
I donot have this lens but I have the 65mmf2 & the design & construction is special - also manual focus & aperture dials. I also have the tamron 24mm & 17-28 which has a very minimal design construction. AF on the tamron 24 is much louder but very accurate - even at macro distances. So I think that the sigma may also be better for more fluid video. If I did not have the tamron lens I may have bought the sigma. But the tamron has great optics except for distortion which is easily correctable. However the sigma series incorporates the best of tradition & modernity and it s simply a joy to use.
@@TheRealRichardWongAlso for video focus is very smooth but AF sometimes msses near MFD. Also MF is very smoth. The 24 tamron is not so smooth but usually very accurate even at macro distances. Price has dropped to 200$ in certain places.
I haven't done any direct comparison but I would guess the sigma is a bit better overall. The biggest difference would be the build quality and the shooting experience as the sigma is just fantastic lens to shoot with
Some reviewers have noted that these Sigma lenses have a lot of distortion. Can you input their lens profile in the camera to compensate for that distortion same as you can do on a Sony camera? If not, how do you deal with that distortion?
the lens should store the profile correction data so if you shoot JPG or video, it should be automatically corrected. If you shoot RAW, the software you use should be able to correct that (but you can also turn off)
@@TheRealRichardWong Thank you for your generous and fast reply Richard, I really appreciate it. I am considering the Panasonic S5II with the 20, 35 and 65 Sigma I series lenses and just want to make sure the distortion will be corrected when shooting video. The pictures I shoot in RAW so that I know I can fix in post. But the video has to be fixed in camera, I think. So I want to make sure it will be happening with these Sigma lenses. Thank you!
Absolutely. But the unfortunate part, well actually its a two parter, is that a) way too expensive. Especially for a 3.5. And b) the autofocus is garbage on the sigma fp lol! Sadly. I had one for a small while and wanted to love it so bad. And I do street photography too. It's af is just so outdated. I pray they make a mkii with phase detect af and a swivel screen, and ibis! While keeping the same body size etc. Then I would easily trade my newly acquired sony a7c back for the sigma fp again! Oh ya and they badly need a pancake lens with at least a 2.8 aperture. Imo those things would sway alot of sony users over to the sigma side
Are you happy to pay higher price for camera gear that has better build quality and delivers better shooting experience?

Actually i should try and see how it works with the TechArt TZE01 adaptor!
If I had Sony I would certainly buy this Sigma 24/3.5 for landscape with Sigma 35/2 and 65/2 + all have apertures and the set fits in small bag.

One thing I am surprised by the sigma 24 is the lack of focus breathing which is great for video work. Wondering if the 65 is similar?
@@TheRealRichardWong There is a little breathing but only when one goes from MFD to infinity
Good to know thanks!!

Reminds me of the 15mm 1.7 for micro 4/3.
Yes it surely does. A nice solid compact lens
I looks like a very good lens, but I do not like the high vignetting ! I had hoped it would be better...
Great video
Richard, How do the images from this lens compare to the Panasonic 20-60 lens ?
I haven't done any direct comparison but I would guess the sigma is a bit better overall. The biggest difference would be the build quality and the shooting experience as the sigma is just fantastic lens to shoot with
Wow that's tiny 😍 very cool 🎥
yes it's little and fun to use

Imagine this with the sigma fp; would be super street camera
That's true. Small combo and great image quality.

Danke
It's on my list!
Thanks for watching Brian!
@@TheRealRichardWong I always value your opinion, Richard. Thank you for your honest reviews
Far too much emphasis the past 20 years on large heavy fast primes to keep prices and profits way up.
i think large and fast primes are good.. but I definitely welcome these smaller but also well made lenses
Aka the L mount focus system is garbage! Lol!
