I believe the correct name for this mineral is "red corundum."
It becomes "ruby" once the material is transparent enough to be classified as "gem grade" rough.
But it still turned out very pretty. Great work😊

You are perfectly right about this stone. It is NOT A RUBY, because I have a ruby, and this stone never comes near it's brilliance!
We cut these qualities stones in cabochon as well but star not come in these rubies

Holy crow people. The video isn’t titled “the most perfect and clear ruby that ever rubied” geez. This is, in fact, a ruby. It is opaque, not translucent. Not as precious as transparent and deeply pigmented ones, but pretty damned breath taking all the same.

The Kohinoor was twice the size it is now, unsymmetrical, and not at all clear and shiney before the English effectively stole it and had the Dutch cut it. I much prefer this more respectful treatment rather than our westernised interpretation of beauty/perfection.

I have several Gemstones which include a Ruby. My Ruby is shinier, transparent and brighter. This has
the color, but definitely does not have the texture or illumination of any Gemstone - let alone a Ruby!
It sounds like you have a beautiful collection of gemstones, with your Ruby being a standout in terms of its shine, transparency, and brightness. But the ruby which we are showing you in video is tumbled and having not transparency. May this shape confusing you.
Ruby comes in many grades ranging from opaque to transparent. This is the second uneducated snarky comment I've seen you make on this video. You clearly know nothing. Oh and in regards to your other comment, he wasn't melting the stone you absolute dolt. He was melting the DOP WAX to stick the stone onto...again just shows your Ignorance 😂😂😂 maybe be quite and stick to what you know, is there is such a thing!
