While such actions may be overlooked during exercise and drilling, it definitely did not look professional watching the protest outside Nigeria. The police should have shown some seriousness and professionalism in what they were getting ready to embark on. Overall it was said to see that day one of the protest was full on incidence the IGP had warned about. We observed situations where the protester deliberately ignore the instruction given by the police and in fact violated court orders for reasons of not being served. The only group that has the legitimacy to give such reason was the one that had representation by their lawyers. How do you serve a group of protesters that have no known representation? There is no doubt that these individuals listen to news , besides the police were there to redirect them to locations allowed by the court. The protesters are not above the law at any given time despite the constitutional provision of the right to protest. The government tis always blamed for thugs and anti protest group that show up at protest ground under the right to protest but with different agenda. This is common in protests by the new generation across the globe. The security agencies are pretty much aware of this danger and hence they appeal for peaceful protest. There is likely not to any peaceful protest so long as there are groups for and against the protest and as long as the protest defy instructions given by the law enforcement agent there to protect them. At this point, the protesters need to cut of the protest has the government and the entire world have heard their demand which can never be met in the next nine days. What happens the first day is an indication of what is likely to happened for the remaining days.
