It wasn't just about him not doing anything, but also about him being unable to do anything. Cosmic injustice befell him not due to his inaction, but due to the fate of his lineage. I.e. he was doomed.
It really is fantastic. It's because of the soundtrack that you know that the film is really about something far deeper and darker than it appears. A work of beauty.
Ever notice how the opening theme on piano is a dissonant re-harmonization of Vince Guaraldi’s “Cast Your Fate to the Wind”-a big hit for Sounds Orchestral, and so appropriate in keeping with the mid-60’s milieu of this film and the film’s thematic wrestling with big issues like free will in the face of an unknowable and possibly absent God. Clever Coen Brothers.
Listened to this track over and over again on holiday in Cornwall 2 years ago - I've never known a more effective representation of impending doom (a doom you can't do anything to avoid) than the final seconds of the movie ticking away with this unbelievably evocative music. A reminder to live every moment - all this unfairness is simply what life is.
A great soundtrack muddled by a terrible upload...might consider uploading an improved version myself unless ZiccaMicca miraculously decides to do something about it :)
I know someone is going to eat me for this, but the first few notes seem to be a remnant of the twilight theme, or the other way around, it is the same composer.
"But I didn't do anything!" - I saw that phrase as the source of Larry's problems, not fighting.

favorite movie of all time
Mine too. Profoundly meaningful.
@@Allegra_G you could say profoundly meaningless
Aristhotle I think you could say both.
@@loki3523 True
You might even say it... really ties the film together.
😂
One of the best films of the decade.
I haven't watched A Serious Man in nearly a decade. Might be time to revisit it.

Yes, "deeper and darker": very nicely put.

This and "No Country" are perfect films from the Cohen's
what about, hmmm, what about a dark knight? or some other movie?
excellent movie. I plan on seeing it a second time. Thanks for uploading this
I swear, Carter does his best compositions when he works with the Coens.
I love this, slightly haunting
A great score fits the movie very well
The quality is terrible. I'm not very demanding but this ruins it
Another beautiful composition ... Pertinent1 is commend it to The House ...
simplistic but lends itself well to the movie
The Mr. Shibata

He always seems to say "what are you talking about?" , "whaaat?" and "what's going on here?!"
