She (Acrobatic Silky) mistook Aira for her own daughter and, at 8:35, shows Aira's actual mother (she has light pink hair) in the coffin.

Wait what? Aww, that's even more sad ☹ So we don't really know what happened to the actual daughter

@@MovieMagicReactsthe manga hints that she is dead (the anime too, in that Aria assumes she is dead by saying 'take* them* to a kinder world' as you see the two on the balcony.
The reality of the daughter is that she was likely sold into sex work or organ harvesting
And that their story played out in the 80s to early 90s, based on items and lack of them, like there are no cell phones, the Yakuza had more liberties back then etc.

It also makes Aria's gesture at the end sweeter, as she realises she can give this woman she didn't know until 5 minutes ago, pease by playing her daughter

Jeez organ harvesting is awful, it makes me feel sick just thinking that it is still happening somewhere in the world.

@@MovieMagicReacts yeah, even in the US etc
There are a lot of people that are living as slaves today, even in Europe and America
And many women that are abused and kept in line with violence and things like the story above
So sadly it's happening everywhere to some extent

In Japanese culture, ghosts are often only a part of the person's soul who's tethered to our world from strong lingering emotions that can't be quelled, but they're removed from the rest of a person's heart/soul, so they become aimless wandering spirits until something sparks them to turn into another type of spirit, the most common being the "long haired Yūrei", which is a female spirit that's been tethered through strong feelings of despair, rage, regret over something in their life, in this mother's case her child being abducted into human trafficking and her feeling powerless to stop it.
Also in Japan, its believed that children are more sensitive to spirits than adults, and can see spirits they're "tuned" with through their unclouded eyes. So Aira was able to see the wandering spirit as a child because she was looking for her mom, and the spirit was looking for her daughter, so they were "tuned" together, and the Yūrei's clouded feelings of regret detached from the heart (the spirit knows the pain of loss, of love to a daughter, but detached from the rest of her heart and memories of her actual daughter who's passed on) attached its meaning to the girl Aira, since in Japan ghosts aren't logical, they're basically acting on pure emotion, and her pure emotion was of the feelings of losing her daughter even if the part of her that loved her daughter had already moved on to the next world, the part of her tethered here to our world was wandering to try to fill the void in her heart. Aira was not her child, but Aira saw the woman's ghost, and the ghost who didn't remember anymore precisely what she was looking for, just the feelings in her heart that kept her tethered here, attached that meaning to Aira because the sight of a little girl looking for her mother spoke to her hearts feelings as a mother looking for her little girl.
We never find out what actually happened to her real daughter, but unfortunately probably nothing good due to the real world horrors of human trafficking. For what happened to the mother and why she and her daughter were attacked, we're loose on details, but it likely had something to do with her working as a prostitute and the Yakuza in Japan (basically the mafia of Japan), she either might've owed some money to them or maybe she offended one of its members so they personally took it out on her, but obviously a tragedy at the end of the day.

OMG, when you said "she was looking for her mom, and the spirit was looking for her daughter, so they were "tuned" together"!!! This is soooo emotional!!!! Bringing tears again to my eyes!!! I had a feeling it might have had something to do with prostitution by the way the 2 men were acting, beating her up, taking her money, but of course we're totally new to the show and the Japan world in general so it was just a thought. I wasn't expecting this episode/show to get to this level of saddnes...

I am Japanese. This is just my speculation about the tragedy that happened when Acrobat Silky was still human. Her husband, who was also her daughter's father, borrowed money from the Yakuza or a loan shark and ran away, so she had no choice but to pay it back in her husband's place and was forced into prostitution. She then spent the money that she should have paid back for her daughter's happiness, and the Yakuza noticed and attacked her, trying to use her daughter to get the entire remaining debt back in one go... That's how I feel.
And another thing, since she was doing ballet, wasn't she originally a young lady who lived a good life?
Even though she knew she couldn't pursue her own dreams anymore, she didn't want her daughter to have to go through that. That's why she bought ballet equipment, which is said to be expensive.
If she had focused only on paying off her debts instead of giving her daughter a dream, this mother and daughter might have been saved.
But if that had happened, the mother and daughter wouldn't have been able to live with such happy smiles.
No matter which of the two options I choose, I feel sad and my heart would burst.
I'm not very good at English, so I'm sorry if my English is strange.

Hi!!! Thank you so much for your comment and your English is perfect!! I am Italian, I am also a non-native English speaker, so I know how you feel!!!
About the father, he was never in the picture so I actually never thought about him. It could have been very possible that he ran away with the money but what kind of father/husband does something like that? Leaving a wife and a kid behind? Definitely not a person that I would want in my life.
You are actually the first one mentioning how expensive the ballet gear is and that more than likely the mom wanted her daughter to live a happy life. This is sooo emotional, I know that my first goal as a mother is to protect my kids and for them to have a happy life. There's nothing else that I awant in the world so I just can't imagine how devastated Acrobatic Silky felt during that ordeal. Not being able to protect her daughter. Her heart must have been broken into pieces 💔 I think this episode showed her pain beautifully.
Thank you again for writing your thoughts here and I really hope to see you around!

Maybe she was a ballerina originally and then got into debts herself with Yakuza to pay for her dancing gear until she got pregnant and couldn't dance any longer? There are sooo many different options for how the real story went but I feel we will never really know 😢

    Hello.
Aira wasn't her child, her real child is presumed dead as Acro-silky as well, but once she turned into a ghost, Aira could see her. In Japan (as is in other countries all over the world) have the belief that toddlers and very young children are half spirit, so they can see ghosts and yokai, but once they grow up, they lose that ability. The bond between Aira and Acro-silky was created because Aira could see the past of the yokai thanks to Momo.
Glad you enjoyed the chapter, as a father, punched really hard, and some macho tears were shed.
    Greetings from México!

My headcanon is that Acrobatic Silky is the mom and the daughter - not only does she have the daughter's dress, but it would also explain why Aira seems to understand that the daughter is no longer with us.

She died through suicide (jumping from the roof) once her daughter was taken, she was her everything after all, and likely she felt guilty for everything
So there was never a car that drove into her, she just passed out on the street from everything
And we can assume then walked up to a roof and jumped off
Due to Japanese laws it's tricky to show suicide on TV, so they hinted at it only (the horizon being low as she dances, the blurred cityscape, and the thud - after seeing the one thing she held important, her daughter, flash before her eyes

    • @MovieMagicReacts

    • @arbitraryify
      @arbitraryify Месяц назад +1

@@MovieMagicReacts yeah, at least it ends with her finding peace - likely with her daughter
And on a positive in this way, she got to choose her way out, and she could do so doing a thing she loved (dancing) and the last thing the living mother did was remembering her daughter in a positive light
It wasn't enough as we see, but in ways it's more beautiful than just dying in the streets

It is loan shark people and kidnapped her kid and it depends how to sold her in the black market. It was brutal and old modus operandi and it happens in real life too.

  • @arbitraryify
    @arbitraryify Месяц назад +3

On why they took the daughter
It's pretty normal for pimps to do things like it, as to keep their prostitutes in line
We know she took out around 200$ for the dress (you need to convert the yen) from the money she made from sex work
Sadly that money to a large extent is the pimps, not hers, and they likely decided to show her to not do it again
There is also the option that she has borrowed money from them, but i think that is less likely

  • @dtceballos

So.... since it doesnt appear that anyone referenced the manga....
    Here's the horrible speculation/direct correlation.
    1) Notice, when the daughter leaves with the men, as soon as the door closes, you cant hear her crying at all. Not to put too dark a thing, but a crying child brings too much attention. Plus, black market....
    2) In the manga, they show Acrobatic Silky taking that final leap.
    3) The manga also shows, sadly, when Silky passes through, holding the hand of her very young daughter.
It's horrific, saddening, but this anime/manga isnt pulling any punches it feels.
Someone can fact check me, but I am pretty sure, that's the downlow. I still cant watch this episode, whether its the episode, or a reaction, just brings tears.
    Not to mention the music.
    Happy new year!

Happy New Year and thanks so much for the insight! I really appreciate you referencing the manga-it adds a lot of context. In the anime they do not show Acrobatic Silky taking that final leap at all, it's a lot of guess-work there, unless you're familiar with the manga. It’s definitely a heavy and emotional episode, and you’re right, the series isn’t holding back ❤

@@MovieMagicReactsit was a little misleading given her graceful touch down of her feet. When you realize she’s on a rooftop, the city of lights in the background, and how her hair changes direction when she plummets down.. THUD. Anyway, keep up the good work!

We actually did, the very first episodes we watched are in Japanese but we found it a bit difficult to follow so many actually suggested to swap to English and although I know we're missing some of the beautiful nuances of the original language I have to say it is much easier to understand what's happening. We will get there, at some stage I am sure we'll be able to watch a manga in Japanese with no issues. Thanks for the comment ❤

@@MovieMagicReacts I have a solution for that and you will see it is very simple. I am not a native English speaker myself, I am from the EU (my English is 95% - even if English movie/tv, I turn on sub). I understand that you respond in English to have a larger audience. I also recognized that you are not native English speakers. Solution: Play the original movie/tv series with subtitles in your language and then put the video with English subtitles in the video according to the time code. But now the biggest advice: Enlarge your subtitles (feel free to 150 percent or more - especially on TV). I don't know where you watch the shows, but generally speaking they are terribly small. On my laptop I usually have 150 percent (I don't wear glasses), on my big TV I have 300 percent. The subtitles are generally set terribly small. You then have to focus on the small font and miss the rest of the screen, etc. The correct double-line of subtitles should take up at least 10 percent of the screen height, preferably with a transparent black background and even better with contrasting yellow font. You have to read them in what is called peripheral vision. If you need 20 percent for that, that's up to you. Then everything will be ok... Best wishes. GL👍
