She most likely owed money to the yakuza, those men were her handlers/pimp.
She took the cash out of the payment money, thus the debt collectors beat her up and took her child

14:02 the crab was the manifest of those things that happened to the girls, granny has a different story I think involving old women being abandoned on the mountains. But she did go there to protect the crab

The anime elevated the beauty and heartbreaking tragedy of this backstory from the manga.
And now you understand why this series is so highly praised. Its ability to interweave the goofy with the tragic is a masterclass of storytelling.

Theres a bit of unmentioned lore, the longer yokai walk the more they lose the memories of their humanity. People figured out by the time Silky saw Aira for the first time it's in the 20-30 year range, which is why she could only remember that she was looking for someone and made the 1+1 connection, thinking Aira was her daughter.
The real kicker though is the opening scene, it wasn't just a visual flair, the hard cut shows that you're seeing through Silky's eyes - she was linking the memory and believed that Okarun and Momo were the ones who took her daughter away from her.

Now, we’ll get to see how serious, empathetic, and compassionate Aira gets to be after this episode… 😮
I'm on the same page that Granny teleported through the phone and went ham, maybe she knew other girls had been taken at the hospital - but for sure Okarun has yet to be able to do anything like it since

I literally just finished watching an analysis video covering each of the yokai's backstories (from both the anime and manga) and recovered from feeling sad for Acro Silky... and then I see this being posted 😂 time to sob again 😭💔
I have been watching so many reactors’ sobbing for this ep. and i can’t explain reasonablly but your sobbing hits me harder.
From the moment I saw you both reacting to this show I knew Madison would be moved by this episode. This one of the best rated by the critics and it’s all well deserved. I can’t wait for you to see the next episodes because they are both funny and touching at the same time.

She was paying the gangs down there by working all those jobs and selling her body. She took more money then usual to buy her daughter that nice dress and they came to collect her debt. Lots of the time they’ll sell kids in different ways whether it’s organ donation or other darker things. But it’s presumed both mother and daughter died as they move on together or are in the afterlife together
Nicely summed up. I think people miss the meaning of money on the table in the opening shot. So it ends up being a bit confusing as to why it all happened.

He's basically saying that so far everything he accomplished was a tangent of him running for his life but he never intentionally landed blows on anyone.

You have to hurry and watch the next episode to see if Aira changed. One thing for sure, her view of Okarun has changed. Turbo Granny can travel through electricity. Yes, she’s the protector of girls. You guys are close on your conclusion about the yokai’s and aliens. It’s hinted at soon.

TurboG's statement about "no stranger" is poignant as Aira was not a stranger to Acro-Silky, having been the only one to see her when she was a kid. TG being cold and cynical acted to prompt Aira into action - hence her hug and final words to Acro-Silky to give her the peaceful goodbye.

Yeah I knew this one was gonna hurt y’all as much as it hurt me. What a beautiful, terrible, bittersweet episode crammed in the middle of this ridiculous, dumb little love story of a show full of ghosts and aliens.

No. The girl Aira’s mom passed away when she was a little girl. She was just sensitive to seeing ghost probably due to going through her mother dying and moving on around the encounter with Afro Silky on the sidewalk

According to other comments I have seen it is implied in the Manga that the daughter also passed away(shortly after being taken.) The two are shown to be reunited in the afterlife.
No, the daughter died not long after being kidnapped.
She died in the same dress that was gifted to her by her mother on her birthday, the same day she was kidnapped.
