My absolute favourite PF song. The emotion and the atmosphere of this song is almost too much handle. I can’t tell the number of times this song has brought me to tears. The chords are exquisite, the tempo is so satisfying and the lyrics are incredible. This is the Mona Lisa of music. It never gets old.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍🎉🎸🇨🇦

@MrPolleyr this is a very weird question but I stumbled on something weird related to this song and wanted to talk to someone who seems fairly familiar with the song (not in any super technical sense), as you say you've seen this version multiple times. I think you would find it interesting. Anyways yes I know, bizarre request but I just have to run this by someone.

I was at this concert but had train problems, we luckily found an amazing taxi driver who must have broken every traffic law to get us there so we walked in the door to hear that bell ringing, incredible relief not to have missed anything (this was the opening number).

200 years from now most modern bands will be forget and lost to time but not Pink Floyd. Their music is the kind that will live on for generations after we've that have been privileged enough to see them live have taken the boat down the endless river.

Probably my most favorite Pink Floyd Song. And it hits harder, the older you get. I loved it already in 1994, but it‘s even better 30 years later!

There is a very good reason Pink Floyd is the greatest Band of all time.
This song is just one of those many, many reasons, Salvo.
    Nice job, nice reaction Bro.

You definitely get it. PF are masters at creating music that puts you in a different head space. The music practically demands you to focus on it and nothing else. It is magic, in every sense of the word.

A song that 30 years later resonates even more, all about looking back at the hopes and ambitions of youth and the realisation that expectation failed to meet reality, great song and well worthy of being a Pink Floyd song no matter what Roger may think.

Great reaction, I've been a Pink Floyd fan since 1973 when they released their iconic, "The Dark Side Of The Moon" album. I'm 68 years old and I grew up in the Classic Rock era and I've seen more than my share of Rock Bands, and I can definitively say,...
No band puts on a live performance like Pink Floyd!
I've seen Floyd twice in the 80s, one time was the incredible, phenomenal, "The Wall" Show/Concert/Play/movie.

"The Division Bell" album was promoted by the tour that became known as PULSE - which is one of the greatest tours of all time. It was also their final studio album as Pink Floyd (with Richard Wright). As the final track, "High Hopes" is a perfect ending to an amazing band's studio career. FYI, the actual division bell is used in Britain to signal the start and/or end of a session of Parliament - the allegory applies to their beginning and ending as the greatest band ever, with a final visual tribute to long gone founder Syd Barrett.

I always wonder how many people miss the scene and don't get it when it shows the guitars floating downstream presumably out into the ocean forever which is coupled along with the lyric, "time took our dreams away"? I mean he plays music so his guitars are his dreams and they're being taken away!

  • @Rickhorse1

You may notice that the crowd was more subdued than normal. The reason is...this concert (Pulse) introduced "High Hopes" for the first time. (The album came out around the same time). us it was the opening of the concert. In the years that followed, this song has become one of the most loved of their later years.

I've got a few recommendations from Gilmour's solo concerts:
    - Breakthrough (live with Richard Wright)
    - In Any Tongue (from Pompeii 2016)
    - Fat Old Sun (from Remember That Night, 2006)
    - Castellorizon/On An Island (from Live in Gdansk, 2006)
These songs will all give you that same feeling that for a couple of minutes the problems of life and the world no longer matter.

Pulse is NOT Pink Floyd. The main vocalist, bass player, and the guy who wrote most of their songs (Roger Waters) had been out of the band for well over a decade at this point. Pulse is David Gilmour covering Pink Floyd tunes. Waters even sued the band over it. Sorry, but I am a Pink Floyd fan and the album they put out (division bell) and the tour that followed were, IMO grift. This is not Pink Floyd.

You sound very bitter in your comment, like David Gilmour has done you a personal injustice, or you perceive yourself to be the final arbiter of what should and should not be. Too bad you stopped listening to the music and the message and got infuriated by our inability to see things the way you do. Of course you could create some music yourself which might impress us, but I doubt it.
