Correctly. However, the light blue shades indicate uneven terrain and thus it might be difficult to land and especially drive there. So I would still Highly recommend DTAs suggestion and head straight for the dark areas.

ok David I have been out of the game for some time and most of the RAW time for materials have been it Horizons so the is some what new to me how and or where do i get the filters to find the brain trees????please help thanks you for your time .////11
Thanks DTEA, but didn't work that well for me. Playing in Horizons - could that make a difference? There are many places in the bubble to get Se from crystalline fragments. Use edtools to search near a reference system. Being in the bubble suits me more. Although the drop rate is not that brilliant I can just go get some Se quickly if I need it rather than make a long trip and then feel I should grind until full.
To be honest I didn't test that. There were so many of them around that I think it's faster to find another cluster. But my guess is that it will respawn
You just drive to the next "grove." They're everywhere, not like crystal shards where groves far apart so you have to fly. I went through one grove plus 7 SE from next grove, to totally fill selenium, zirconium, and manganese.
Drop rate seems to depend of the "forest" you take a look. First I only found manganese. Then I tried in another area and I found selenium. Not much, but I found it, in a rate of 1/10 Selenium Manganese /Circonium aprox
All materials that don't take up cargo space, are for engineering. Grade 4 of the Dirty Drive, Grade 4 of the Efficient Weapon, Grade 3 of the Thermal Resistant Shield, Grade 3 of the Weapon Power Focused Power Distributer modifications, as well as a some premium and standard ammo synthesis. There are a few other modifications that require it, but the ones I listed are the most useful of them.
You need to find the polypourus trees, those drop Selenium, Manganese and Zirconium. I filled up here in about an hour. The other trees do drop other grade 5 raw mats as well. This is a great farming site and IMO way easier to drive SRV that crystalline shard sites.
October 2024 Update: I shot 20+ trees and most of the mats got stuck in the trees. Kinda like Shards used to. Out of those 20+ trees I got 4 mats actually drop to the floor so I could pick them up with the SRV. And no you can't get out of your vehicle and nudge them...
The other trees besides Polypourus also drop some grade 5 mats like Technetium and Rutherium. I've done Crystalline shards a few times and it is a bit faster, however I like this site a lot especially for Selenium.
Im curious, I was able to buy the Scorpion SRV for my PVH in my anaconda but I can’t deploy it when I land. I am on Xbox one X. Why put it in the game if we can’t drive it
There are a number of ship module blueprints that need it, e.g. Dirty Thrusters and Overcharged Power Plant, just to name two (the Wiki is your friend)
@@ikosanweee8203 No, that works even in Horizons 3.8 (I captured video, what does it look like). I spotted that in crater city ("Volk Installation") yet. But I saw similar hangars (to transfer SRV to/from) at least in one regular settlement.
@@ikosanweee8203 Just choose Deploy SRV as usual after docking, and SRV would be transferred to hangar. For boarding, you need to request "docking" from SVR, go to any hangar and choose Board, then "Ready to board" indicator lit.
So I have had a hard time finding tellerinium so I could get shock cannons. Being said, people seem to hate shock cannons, but I love them. I just wish I could engineer them, and hold more ammo. Other than that, I love their power.
Travel to HIP 36601 C 3 b site 5 Tellurium - you'll have 150 of them in an hour. This guide is very helpful for all raw mats, and this video D2EA posted you'll have all your raw mats maxed in about 4 hours. So worth the trip as you can then trade down for all other raw mats. Just remember the shard sites take a couple weeks to refresh so plan accordingly!
So my son and I have spent at least 10 hours total on this planet and shooting everything. Neither of us have retrieved 1 selenium. Is this still valid 2023-07-03?
Brain trees were already available in Horizons and are found on planets without atmosphere, so that should work on consoles (without having it tested myself apart from scanning them at the time about 2 years ago).
Shouldve noted that this is for Odyssey.. Temporarily went to play the unoptimized bugfest that is Odyssey and suffered 40 to 20fps with minor stutters just to farm the Selenium I need before going back to Horizons.
No they're not biological or geological sites like crystalline shards site. It must be an Odyssey thing as I didn't know you can filter in the system map. Just follow D2EA video, its the darker blue areas. Once you get close to surface, they're everywhere. You can also just drive SRV to new locations by watching scanner. This is a great find by D2EA!
Drop rate for selenium is very low.. I only got 3 out of over 50. Filled out all my zirconium and manganese and so far only 9 selenium.. I guess will try again later on another site
I have been doing this next to a guardian site for oblesque data for a while now. massive forests in 2 or 3 clusters within 1.5km from site. Max out selenium in an hour.
You can fly to this site, fill selenium, zirconium, and manganese from empty, and fly back to the bubble in less than an hour easy. Nothing like it that I've ever seen.
There's an easier way than that, just use EDDB, locate a system/planet in the bubble with high % of Selenium and volcanicity. That also has Geysers and look for Crystaline clusters (think that's what they were called), everyone I have been too has had Selenium on them and there easy to spot as you can see the Geyser plumes from quite a distance. Just time your shooting of the cluster so the geyser is at its lowest point otherwise the Selenium will shoot into space.
The most you'll find is about 5% Selenium on a planet. With this method, you can find 1 cluster of trees that will give 150 selenium as well as other G5 raw mats in about an hour of farming in SRV.
Roughly 1 out of 10-15 does actually do fall for me... they detach from the tree but just stuck on the branch. I need to get out on foot and jump, push it down with my body. (UPDATE: if it is stuck on the tree, the SRV stilll can collect it if the material is targeted, needs to go close to the tree to get it from the tree) It is very annoying, sometimes Devs see these videos then decide to destroy that farming method. Do they still believe that it should be a week of grinding for one level of engineering for one unit? Well I also hate that I need to farm these, but the other methods are very long. This game has so much potential yet they cannot balance it and things go sideways. Ody mats are collected by robbing the same few anarchy settlements, yet they should be mission rewards and salvage from fallen shipwrecks, smugglers/thieves storage, that would disperse players. Horizons materials come from Davs Hope, Jameson Site, and those raw farm planets, yet those also should be mission rewards and signatures, salvaging from wrecks. Salvaging could be a real thing... like salvage laser could extract material from ship wrecks, raw and manufactured depending on ship type. Passenger missions when I last tried were either to 10-20K ly targets for ridiculously low price or the thug smuggling between Robigo and Sothis. There could be passenger missions between tourist settlements and other stations so those passenger ships would actually make sense, and a new cast of space truckers could arise: the space bussers. We have 400 billion systems yet most of the carriers are like insect swarms, wiping trade/mine possibilities from other players, yet those should not be allowed in the bubble or at least they should not have cargo capacity.
Honestly, Odyssey sucks in terms of raw mats. Just boot up Horizons and head down to a Geological Signal and you can top off at basically any system in the Bubble.
These still work as of 1/15/24, just reposting for those who dont want to dig. All but Selenium can be harvested using the flak cannon / limpet method. For some reason the limpets dont recognize the Selenium shards when blasted off so you still have to use the SRV.

Are there brain tree locations for the other high grade raw mats near the bubble (for those not keen to make the trek to the Crystal Shards)
Crystal Shards is one of the best and esiest treks
The other trees besides Polypourus also drop some grade 5 mats like Technetium and Rutherium. I've done Crystalline shards a few times and it is a bit faster, however I like this site a lot especially for Selenium.
How do you filter the signals in detailed surface scanner? Not seeing an option for this on ps5
You said it. Console.
His video is for Odyssey. In Horizons, DSS and then head to geological site locations that show up in your nav panel.
Im curious, I was able to buy the Scorpion SRV for my PVH in my anaconda but I can’t deploy it when I land. I am on Xbox one X. Why put it in the game if we can’t drive it
It's a bug I think. Scorpion SRV requires Odyessy, and consoles don't have that.
does this still work ?
What were we doing with Selenium? I have already everything and i forgot what we are using it for.
There are a number of ship module blueprints that need it, e.g. Dirty Thrusters and Overcharged Power Plant, just to name two (the Wiki is your friend)
@@HeinerS Thank you commander
(offtopic) Did you know, that you can deploy SRV while docked to surface city ?
How? Is it only while dokced at odyssey settlement?
@@ikosanweee8203 No, that works even in Horizons 3.8 (I captured video, what does it look like).
I spotted that in crater city ("Volk Installation") yet. But I saw similar hangars (to transfer SRV to/from) at least in one regular settlement.
@@ikosanweee8203 Just choose Deploy SRV as usual after docking, and SRV would be transferred to hangar.
For boarding, you need to request "docking" from SVR, go to any hangar and choose Board, then "Ready to board" indicator lit.
@@ikosanweee8203 It seems to was there from Horizons day one, as it is explained in Frontier SRV presentation video.
Is this site after the Update 14 alway usable? all other Sites doesnt work anymore.....
still working TODAY :)
I think I just aquire it while mining for platinum, I've never actively looked for selenium.
Thanks for that, getting tired of trading other grade 5's.
about time!
LOL forgot link to guide - forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/how-to-fill-all-of-your-raw-materials-bins-using-crystalline-shards.481235/
So my son and I have spent at least 10 hours total on this planet and shooting everything. Neither of us have retrieved 1 selenium. Is this still valid 2023-07-03?
hi there you have to use a detailed surface scanner and go to the boilogical signal now number (10) is the best one ive seen
Thanks!!! :D
Can someone pls tgell me can you collect it on foot ?
Is this odyssey only or does it work in Horizons too? From a poor console player...
Brain trees were already available in Horizons and are found on planets without atmosphere, so that should work on consoles (without having it tested myself apart from scanning them at the time about 2 years ago).
Dang, I went to HIP 3230 - Nothing there, :(
Has anyone tried the flechette launcher from the air + collectors?
Shouldve noted that this is for Odyssey.. Temporarily went to play the unoptimized bugfest that is Odyssey and suffered 40 to 20fps with minor stutters just to farm the Selenium I need before going back to Horizons.
Don't forget to visit Material Traders 1st!! I don't really need it but I'm bored of 'Goid pew-pew so why not take a little side trip?
so are they a biological thing then? what would i be looking for to find them out by say LOS or Colonia?
No they're not biological or geological sites like crystalline shards site. It must be an Odyssey thing as I didn't know you can filter in the system map. Just follow D2EA video, its the darker blue areas. Once you get close to surface, they're everywhere. You can also just drive SRV to new locations by watching scanner. This is a great find by D2EA!
Sorry but I'm only a west and fast miner :(
I'm a south fast miner :(
Drop rate for selenium is very low..
Yeah I ain’t doing that
But can i use ship limpets to colect it or have to do it with SRV?
Have to use the SRV.
the near moon view fantastic like a scifi film but soory this worst place to farm...with no reason you get stuck under the trees...😂
Must have odyssey I assume?
no luck her in 2 hours i got 5 selimium )
Anyone else get their SRV stuck in a tree, and have to walk back to your ship? No? Just me? Sigh….
😂😂😂 it’s not the elite experience if you haven’t been stuck in a tree at least ONCE 😂😩
they all drop Mn... I've shot 30 of these things and gotten only Mn
doesn't work for horizons
Is this method only available on Odyssey? I went all the way there, only to not be able to find any Brain Trees. I am on PS5, so still on Horizons.
This wouldn't work on console, as the planet topography and POIs are different between versions.
Me is gets stuuuuuuck.
Honestly, Odyssey sucks in terms of raw mats. Just boot up Horizons and head down to a Geological Signal and you can top off at basically any system in the Bubble.
This still works in feb 2023 ? I mean in horizons? I just tested it, and i do not get the Geological Signal sites from the past anymore.
Same here. Horizon 4.0 seems to be the same as Odyssey.
501st 😉 😆 🤣
you only found 1 selenium by luck in this no hve nothing of selenium
