    The LONGER RAY5 10W is positioned as "the best budget 10W laser engraver with touch screen for beginners."
    LONGER RAY5 is the first engraving machine with a built-in touch screen and also allows use "offline", without being tethered to a computer. This is a big plus when running repetitive projects and I use this feature extensively .
    Etching Stainless steel pub-style openers on the Longer Ray 5 diode laser with a 10 watt head.
    This is an easy project for a beginner and the openers make great gifts or a custom item to sell.

    Thank you for your video! I just purchased this laser and am having difficulty lining up my projects. Did you create this layout board (for lack of knowing correct term) for placement to match the lightburn software layout? I would love to know about this, if so. Thanks for helping us out with great videos!

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  8 месяцев назад +1

      I make layout grids for all of my lasers and have done several videos on engraving them and how to setup, working from Absolute Coordinates in Lightburn and centering the layout grid. I also have several different size grids available as a free download from my website: moonshinecrafts.com/product-category/laser-mounts-accessories/ for many brands of lasers. Which size applies to you depends on the model.

    Hello, Great video! Did you coat the metal to get that dark result? I'm using Stainless Steel 304, and it barely etches the art.... Cheers! Ps. I do have the same machine.

      No, not coated. But, I have worked with some different alloys that do require a dark coating first.

    When I mark stainless steel I use a dry erase marker on the SS and get pretty good results the dry erase marker from Office Depot brand. Is what I use. I have etched my igaugeing calipers and my Incra scales.😁🛫

      There is none. A blue diode laser cannot engrave steel. With certain coatings, you can etch steel, but not engrave or cut.

    Roger I like your videos however I've been going back and forth with Longer regarding them. I purchased the same bottle opener as you show in this video and I also purchased the same galvanized scraper from The Dollar Tree that you engraved in another video. I have the R5 10w just like the one you use in your videos. I also use the same settings you used 400mm/min at 100% power and I don't get 1 black speck. Longer sent me their chart which says the same setting for stainless steel. But when I told them it doesn't work they said you really should be using a 20w or higher for those items. So how does your 10w work and mine does not.

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  8 месяцев назад

      If uncoated, you can't etch brass with a blue diode laser. There are coatings you can use on brass to get an etch, but an IR laser or fiber laser is best on metals such as brass. Longer does make a ruby IR head that will fit the Longer lasers.

      Try etching them with much less power. You can probably find settings that will burn-off the black but leave the stainless silver. I've done it with dog-tags.
