I think the cost efficiency of modern companies will never allow another game like oblivion or morrowind, the juice isn’t worth the squeeze. They know they can shit out a reskinned rpg with a mod center and make millions why spend the time hand crafting a perfect world of adventure
@@troymealey4604 companies do seem to lean into the mod community, especially Bethesda. To the point where starfield had 1000 planets and they said it was a “modders paradise”. As in, the game will be built by others lol. But I do feel like the games you referenced can make a comeback. You look at KCD for example. There is a demand there for it, it’s just being ignored. Whoever makes the next morrowind with new graphics will be hugely successful
Not certain that people will come back to play Starfield IF the really good mods come and that's the thing really good mods on Skyrim took years before these arrived. Some of those mods are default standards in Witcher/Cyberpunk as it is, example physics and true first person are standard ship with the game. True Third Person a great mod for Skyrim has not to this day been done for Fallout 4, see no reason why not especailly because there are a lot of people that would love to see their character in combat in 3rd person and how about that 1st person in Fo4, why has no one made Enhanced Camera for Fo4 yet. Thinking Starfield is too far behind on modding as of recently it should be further along even before the Creation Kit released this summer. Lets say it gets some really good mods, great now you come back an play but the boring quest stories are still there and an over reliance on radiant quest filler. True I dont know what Shattered Space is going to do for sure but its not outside the realm of possibility that the DLC will do nothing to improve the main games story as it is now, it will be an addition to an otherwise weak storyline.
Valve is doing the same thing And in many ways it's worse because they are reselling you gambling casino loot boxes for various pixels that have real market value sometimes in the thousands of dollars Why bother to spend time and resources on a game that could potentially make millions, when they already make billions selling you cosmetics, loot boxes, and publishing other people's games
That’s the trick. Listen to feedback, implement changes, dream game made. That easy really lol. If they took a poll, and just implemented the top requests, it’d make such a huge difference. I have no idea why they ignore their fans. It’s a new business practice that I have never seen before lol
Larian made a blockbuster and they use a long beta with players giving their feedback. Now to be honest here towards the end of the open beta Larian became a bit less able to listen to player feedback and when game released it had quite a few issues that many players were yelling about for years. Do you really think Todd is like this? I read yrs back that Todd doesn't even allow people within BGS to give input and is why their games have become so awful. One man alone does not create a masterpiece. I think people calling him Godd Howard did not help this one bit but here we are.
And to reply to my own post....what happens now to Larian. Swen has been praised to much. He is a modest guy but we shall see how open he is to new ideas now that the "world" praise has been bestoowed upon this single human being. The very first sign for me that stuff is starting to crumble in the Larian "we adhere to players first" attitude is the secrecy of their next projects. No longer is this what the players want....at all! They even are keeping this secret so secret so they can do whatever they wanna do and that is a telltale sign that this players first is starting to crumble from admiration.
With Fallout 4 Bethesda was already in the decline. I would argue that Skyrim was the first game that actually shows the decline. It was still a fun Bethesda game, but it barely improved over Oblivion and in some places I would argue it was a straight downgrade. I just hope CDPR doesn't ever get into the Bethesda stagnation stage.
I totally agree. Skyrim began cutting some RPG elements and their writing was a lot worse than the previous entry. Fallout 3 had great writing too. Either way, still going strong. Fallout 4 was a game that really showed the decline to me. It was still a decent enough game. But it went more simple than the previous games. The writing was dull and emil the writer for Bethesda said in an interview “if you spend hours writing good content players are just gonna spend hours building shacks.” It reflected in the game. Since then, the less said about their releases the better lol
See I find oblivion to be incredibly boring to play, whereas I love Skyrim and Fallout 4. Both those games improved the gameplay and world design from oblivion tenfold.
All good developers will go downhill eventually. I was there for BioWare when it exploded onto the RPG scene with Baldur's Gate 1 in the late 1990s, saw the company's golden age. Then watched it decline in the 2010s. FPS developers DICE hit the gaming scene with Battlefield 1942 in the early 2000s. I loved the Battlefield series. I still fondly recall the company boldly pushing the limits of the FPS genre with 2011's Battlefield 3. But past the mid-2010s the company has started to show big problems with several of their games, eventually reaching to the disaster that was Battlefield 2042. I still recall Blizzard hitting it big in the 1990s. Hit after hit with their Warcraft, Diablo, and Starcraft franchises. If they weren't good enough already, some little game called World of Warcraft took over the MMORPG genre by storm in the mid-2000s. There was a time when Blizzard could do no wrong. But since the 2010s, they were doing a lot of things wrong and being on the news for the wrong reasons. Watching them turn out like this was cringe worthy. Creative Assembly found their great niche in the strategy game genre with their Total War series, beggining with 2000's Shogun Total War. Their success and quality culminated in 2011's Shogun 2 Total War. You'd think after something as great as Shogun 2, they would keep on getting better. But that wasn't so. After that high point, they fell off the cliff with Rome 2 in 2013. There's more out there, especially if the company has been around long enough. The *people* that made the company good can retire, move on, whatever. A good one is they get bought out by some awful larger company who has them do some stupid stuff. And more. There are a lot of things that will cause even the best of companies to go downhill one way or another. It WILL happen. It's a matter of WHEN. I still recall in the 1990s and very early 2000s when Electronic Arts and Activision were really cool, mellow publishers. Now they're Evil Empires in gaming.
@@walk-monkey I didn't really say that Oblivion is more fun than Skyrim, or that Fallout 4 doesn't have an interesting world. But the gameplay mechanics in those games mostly stagnated, and in some ways degraded. As an example take the gutted dialogue system in Fallout 4 vs 3. Instead we got base building from prefab assets, the same mechanic with which they also tried to sell Starfield many years later. Bethesda doesn't really improve their game design over the years. And that's the problem. Not that I didn't like the worlds they build.
Haha oblivion was like how big compared to daggerfall? A drop in the ocean lol. I had never heard of fast travel until that game. Was my first taste of a proper open world game.
@@AVVGaming1 Daggerfalls map was the size of Great Britain about 209,331 square kilometers, it had 15,000 towns, 15,251 dungeons and 750,000 NPC, and no I am not over exaggerating that is all real. So yeah Daggerfall is a bit bigger then Oblivion lol.
@@TheMysterieRPGguy that’s absurd! How many hours could that take to complete? I guess it’s pretty much impossible? Where the town’s procedurally generated as well? Or some hand crafted?
@@AVVGaming1 A lot was done with procedurally generation like all the dungeons but there was also hand craft work in there, outside of dungeons I'm not sure what was hand crafted and what wasn't though. Honestly you should give it a shot, Daggerfall is free on steam and with the Daggerfall Unity mod it's still very playable today, the mod makes the game a lot more modern. Do be warned though this game is hard like really hard stuff like dark souls is a joke compared to this. It really doesn't hold your hand like at all, it's an old school RPG one where you can build your character so wrong it makes completing the game impossible. So if you do play it go in prepared, but it is also a very rewarding game still one of the best games Bethesda has ever made.
@@TheMysterieRPGguy you’ve sold me! I’m gonna play it on steam and see it with my own eyes. I’ve been wanting to do a video comparing all the elder scrolls game soon anyway so I’d like to experience all of them to get it accurate. Sort of see what changes come between each games and what should have been left in.
We all do! I was playing Skyrim last night and it still holds up! In vanilla! It’s crazy that the Skyrim and older ES games have done so well and seem like timeless masterpieces and then you got new Bethesda games dying upon release
@@IanLyons1134 That piques my curiosity. Honestly I would like for Obsedian from the past to make an Elder Scrolls of their own like New Vegas but in you know Elder Scrolls. More in between games need to happen in the industry instead of absurd gaps in releases.
The Witcher 3 really was the next big thing for me after Oblivion (Even when I like Skyrim I just liked Oblivion more) Even with less freedom then a Bethesda game. The witcher 3 was memorable throughout the game. I still sometimes boot up the game just to walk around with Roach to look at the Beautiful world. Its like moving through a painting. Its timeless and breaths passion.
The amount of replay ability in terms of quests is unreal too. The different choices really have lasting impacts and the fine details are exceptional. I remember playing it for the first time, I felt like I was absorbed and emotional invested. By time I finished, it felt like leaving best friends behind. I have since replayed it from start to finish about four times lol
@@AVVGaming1 You worded it perfectly! I always get emotional when Im about to end something that had such a big impact on me. I did it 3 times so far ^^ Maybe come the Autumn I will do a new playthrough again.
The stories and character from the Witcher stick with me still. To me it’s the best game and best media entertainment ever made. They did well with Cyberpunk too but I’ve beaten the Witcher 3, 4 times and it is amazing every time. If you think the gameplay is boring, play on death march
@@FlashGladd Witcher 3 is my favourite game of all time. I’ve finished it about 5 times and almost play it again every 6 months. Bit obsessed with it actually lol one day I’m going to do a video on it explaining why I consider it the best
Let’s not forget how CDPR failed us on release (and 1+years after) of Cyberpunk. Both studios need to learn from their mistakes. But CDPR does seem more promising.
Yes they’re clearly hurt from it and doing their best to turn it around with constant updates and the game now is in a perfect state. However, it still hurt them more than anything releasing it how they did. I think they will have to learn a lot from this experience!
I think the single biggest issue with Cyberpunk 2077, at launch, was the mandate from the Board (due to pressure from investors) that the Developers had to do a same-day launch across all consoles and PC's....at the height of a pandemic no less. Had the Board been more understanding and allowed the Devs to focus on releasing a full version of the game for PC's and PS5/XBox Series-X, with a last gen release around 6-12 months later-after re-optimization for the weaker last-gen hardware. Still, if wishes were horses.....
Yes but I think it’s been a lesson world wide in gaming. Someone had to be that game. Someone had to be the one pushed to hard for investors and fail spectacularly. It’s a shame it had to be CD Projekt red and cyberpunk 2077. But they managed to turn it around at least! And it now is a lesson and whenever a board considers pushing the game out early, they will think “wait, remember cyberpunk?”
@@AVVGaming1 oh believe me, this is coming from someone who bought the game for PC day 1 and have loved it since launch....and that love has only grown with each new patch. Currently have 975 hours in the game.
@@TheMarcHicks it’s a masterpiece right? I feel for CDPR because cyberpunk 2077 will never really get the recognition it deserves because of that launch. And you know it wasn’t even because of the developers but the pressure of the board members. It really should be up there as one of great games of all time. at least that’s how I feel.
The thing for me and why I wasn't angry with the launch of CP2077 was that some of the devs literally said "the game needs 6 months more" or something like that, so I just waited 6 months and I had a great first playthrough
At least to their credit that despite the game being a mess at launch, It was a diamond in the rough and it's brilliance was apparent. The game just need more time to gel and managed to recover within a reasonable amount of time, and people got fired for the fact that the game was a bad launch. I don't see them doing that with Starfield because the game itself was crap from the very beginning down to the very essence of the game itself do to bad design. Cyberpunk is a excellent recipe, They just didn't cook it right.
Besides Skyrim, I can’t tell you the last Bethesda game that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. Starfield was a MASSIVE let down for me. In terms of Elder Scrolls, I’ve enjoyed the online version more than Skyrim at this point. If Bethesda truly want to stay relevant, they are going to have to step up their game in terms of content. We don’t want procedurally generated worlds and side quests that feel like fetch quests anymore. We want stories that matter and choices that make us feel like we make a difference. That’s why I loved the Witcher 3. Your choices matter and every side quests felt like a main quest. Great video 👏🏼💕🥰
True. And the thing is that I expect that The Witcher 4 releases before The Elder Scrolls 6, so The Witcher 3 (which is already a more or less old game but still top class) will be not its competitor. Keeping the Creation engine this could end in a tough time for Bethesda.
@@Hamurator I really don't know about that, I understand what you mean but I think TES6 is more close than most people think. I don believe that is going to be like GTA6 or something like that
@@pacovides5364 I don't expect TES6 before 2028 while I see The Witcher 4 in 2026/2027. Bethesda's focus was fully on Starfield and TES6 got only a small pre-production team. On the other side we know since February that more than 400 devs are working on The Witcher 4 and production phase should have been started in the last weeks.
I have zero hope for ES6. Bethesda is done. It's not even about the engine anymore. It's the writing. The writing is for Disney children and the mainstream rather than an adult game. Their games were made for adults and showcased worlds with really messed up problems and dark undertones. Starfield felt like it was made for 10 year olds who wanted to visit a theme park. Making a game for everybody means you make one for nobody. They are beyond fixing. ES6 will be the final nail in the coffin. They will make money from sales solely from the name of ES but it will be the last ES or Bethesda game with any hope left. It will collapse rather quickly after.
I totally agree and I just did a video that I dropped on Saturday asking “is the engine holding back Bethesda?” Spoiler alert, it’s not, Bethesda are holding themselves back. Their writing has been on the decline for a long time and I totally felt the same when playing starfield. I felt like the writing was for kids and the comedy was so basic. Not to mention it was all very boring. There was an epic war…with space cowboys! Literally, that was the final script lol
@@Centuries_of_Nope let’s hope that’s the case. We’ve seen too many good game developers swallowed up by that corporate thing. I’m just glad after the launch of cp77 they managed to fix their mistakes and apologise and get back to being the company we love.
CDPR has peaked. I hope I'm wrong, but they're making some really sus hires of toxic devs from other studios like Insomniac to make their future games.
CDPR are the best writers I’ve seen in gaming for a long time! Both Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 were written so well and I’m not sure why they feel the need to make changes? They don’t need anyone else. They are flying right now and I worry that they will bring people in with bad ideas or worse writing. But, I’ll remain optimistic and hope it only enhances the experience
I thought the similarities between the quests “diplomacy immunity” in Skyrim and “you know my name” in cyberpunk were crazy. Both quests involve sneaking into a high class party with very important people in attendance as a guest, using disguises to blend in. But cdpr just executed it far better. The presentation and atmosphere at the black sapphire was just far beyond what was happening at the thalmor embassy. I know cdpr had the luxury of working with better hardware but even then, it really made me think about how much better cdpr pulled off that style of mission.
That quest is one of the best moments in the attire game. Did you play Witcher 3? When you go to the bar and Priscilla is playing the lute? That’s one of those “wow” moments in gaming and the black sapphire was just as good with Lizzy Wizzy. It’s so well executed and I’m doing a video about Cyberpunk next. The game is fantastic. The whole dog town story was great though. I’ve finished both endings and both blew my mind.
I’m now on my 4th playthrough. Every side quest is so detailed and I love the characters. The gigs are awesome too! And then..even the cyberpsychos and NYPD markers are brilliant too! I was just going around doing the NCPD and they’re actually really detailed as well! No corners cut in this game I love it!
I remember seeing a comment once, and it was someone claiming that Fallout 4 was better than Cyberpunk 2077. Needless to say, they got trashed on so hard that they deleted their comment
I just laugh at anybody that says things like that about cyberpunk and they've never even played it since launch. The fact that you can listen to Lizzy Wizzy on the radio then go watch her perform that song and talk to her afterwards makes this game much better then most out right now. Cyberpunk has so much depth and it's one of my favorite worlds ever. @@LeleiTheTigress
Bethesda's problem is that they've been trying to move toward almost all procedurally generated content (Skyrim was initially supposed to be nothing but radiant quests with NO main storyline) so they can do as little work as possible but still charge us a premium. They're focusing more on nickel and diming us to death rather than making a good game. It's sad. I have such great memories with their previous games. It seems as if they've just succumbed to the shareholders and greedy MBAs...who will milk the company until they kill it.
Really? Well Skyrim is the stuff of legends to this day. If it was entirely radiant quests it wouldn’t have done as well, which means less interest and as a result less modders and it’d die off quickly. They have to learn to provide quality again. People don’t want procedural generated stuff. It just won’t ever replace real stories and worlds. I am just glad starfield failed so that they now know not to keep going in that direction or suffer the consequences
I believe, personally, that Bethesda has given up. Todd no longer seems to care about gaming and he's only putting alll his best efforts into ESO. The rest is just to keep up and have the money to continue. Which wont work for long unless he does better with the next game he puts out.
Well here’s the crazy part! Todd has never played ESO! He’s never looked at it he said so in an interview! He’s been focused on starfield and fo76 instead and it’s tough to watch. He won’t even look at ESO which seems mental since he has such an impact on the elder scrolls.
@@AVVGaming1 Wow. But,he,or they,I guess, put so much work into ESO.Wish I could grab hold of Todd and just shake him up a bit. Could it be that he's kind of done with the Elder Scrolls games now? Just burnt out on them?
@@xScooterAZx yes I know he’s been fascinated with space over everything else and that’s why they pushed so hard for starfield and sidelined everything else. Such a shame too.
That was always going to happen. You could see it in the trailers for FOLON. They knew what the fans wanted, being fan’s themselves and they really delivered on it. I have nothing but respect for their team as well because to do all that, on that engine, takes a lot of effort!
Ah yes, can't wait for Bethesda to release next-gen upgrade for Starfield, it did so well for Fallout 4, people had to jump through hoops to "downgrade" their Fallout 4.
Yes that was a disaster and I’ve done a video on it as it happened right when fallout London was about to drop. It pushed that back and looked suspicious. If they had added new quests etc I’d have been all for it! But it was essentially the same game but they just broke a lot of peoples saves.
funny how i played hundreds of hours of Skyrim yet i love the theme and story of Oblivion more it felt fantasy like compared to Skyrim ...if Bethesda remake Oblivion or at least remastered of it ,they can take my cash ..
It needs to be remastered for sure! That game has probably aged more than Skyrim on terms of graphics so needs a fresh coat of paint. But it had the best side quests and RPG elements compared to Skyrim. The dark brotherhood and thieves guild were so good! I think I’m gonna do a oblvion vs Skyrim video
@@AVVGaming1 True bare minimum i can accept is the graphic is as good as Fallout 4 but would be better if they go the extra mile..if Bethesda did just that Oblivion will be a timeless game just like Skyrim managed to be ...but fingers crossed its Bethesda we are talking about here hahaha Oh speaking about quests all of the Guild quests in Oblivion also miles better compared to Skyrim ..love the athletic skills in Oblivion useful for jumping on high grounds especially if you are a thief or an assassin for the dark brotherhood that adds more immersion which Skyrim somehow remove, shame they did that... Nice definitely going to watch it ..cheers bruv keep making good content !
If only Bethesda focused on the Elder Scrolls instead of Starfield for all those years. Damn man! I’m like so damn mad and sad they could have been making another Elder Scrolls game that entire time but why! WHY!!!
I know and that’s the most heartbreaking part! The fact that they could have been working on that game the whole time but instead we have got Falout 4 (fine) fallout 76 and starfield. It’s so sad and I think we all just want Bethesda to go back to doing what they do best!
Then we likely would have just had a POS Elder Scrolls game instead though... I have almost no hope for Bethesda but if they really want ot keep their company afloat then TES 6 is going to have to be good/a return to form. That said other then the combat* and visuals their games have been downgrades on every single new entry; weaker writing, less gameplay options with stuff like weapons (Spears, Throwing Knives etc.) and mechanics such as Spell Crafting and Weapon and Armor Repairing being cut, handplaced loot being replaced in favor of random generated loot and so fort. *and even then other older games had much better combat, if only Skyrim had say Dark Messiah's combat gameplay holy heck that'd been epic.
I don' think you can really replace BGS. Their games are unique and if we lose them we just lose that type of game. No one else does it like they do. That said CDPR is definitely a better company. They're more consumer friendly and they make better games. In a perfect world we'd have both, but if BGS fails we do have some good alternatives (CDPR, Warhorse, Obsidian, Larian, etc). I've been playing a game called Fall of Avalon recently that's basically a BGS game. It's about as close to being a BGS developed medieval fantasy game as I've seen any one else produce. Unfortunately it's still in Early Access and it appears it has quite a way to go before it's ready for a full release. Great video as always!
@@ClellBiggs thank your for the kind words! I think CDPR gives better stories in their side quests. The writing is better, more engaging, and you feel more connected to the characters. The worlds are beautiful too. That being said, Bethesda games to me are having the ability to go anywhere in any direction and find something myself. CDPR don’t have the dungeons or that same levell of freedom. But you’re right in that we have so many good options nowadays! I know people have said it’s a tough time for gamers but I’d argue we get so many great options! kcd2 is the one I’m most excited for! They got a release date estimate for fall of Avalon?
@@AVVGaming1 Not that I'm aware of. It says 9 to 16 months in the Early Access section but the game came out in March of last year and they are quickly approaching that 16 month deadline. They're currently on version 0.7 so I'd say they have another year ahead of them. I also forgot about Wayward Realms. I backed it during the Kickstarter and am hoping it turns out to be what they're promising it will be.
@@ClellBiggs I mean both those games are so exciting and my type of games! I love that you did kick starter for them. I believe the games that are kick starters nowadays share the same passion we have for the games whereas Aaa studios are losing touch with their fans and forgetting what it is to love gaming!
I truly think that cd projekt red is beating bethesda everywhere. havent played starfield, but based on what I have seen there is nothing that attracts me to it.. The withcer 3 drew me in as a game never had before, the first time i really connected with the protagonist in a stroimng emotional way.. an emotional way that got again much much stronger playing V. in cyberpunk 2077. The first time the portagonist feels as an extention of my personality in a game.
Witcher 3 blew my mind! Never felt so emotionally invested in a game before. Couldn’t believe how well written it was. Then cyberpunk 2077 just pushed boundaries with its open world, side quests and just the way it was all put together with no loading screens. If CDPR keeps going at the rate they are, imagine Witcher 4.
I think we all do! BG3 was a masterpiece in writing, character development and chooses and role playing. You could tell within the first few minutes of playing the amount of customisation you could do to your character, and the back story you could create was unbelievable. And not to mention the studio Lorian represents eveutning we love about a good gaming company!
It's not only Bethesda. Playing Warcraft III and World of Warcraft as a teen about 20 years ago I had expected Blizzard will release games like CDPR does nowadays...
Great video bro, at this point, I think its more fair to compare Bethesda to Bioware, instead of CDPR, I see Warhorse and Larian as a more direct comparison to CDPR with the way all the three game studios have grown through the years, and still retain the "root" and soul of the game. Whilst Both bioware and bethesda seem to be lagging behind or chasing trends. I'm curious as to what you think of Dragon age 4. Maybe it would be nice to cover that as well.
I’ll definitely cover dragon age 4 in a video soon! I think you’re probably right. In my opinion CDPR is getting better and better with each release. Warhorse, well if you seen my KCD video, let’s just say I’m a massive fan! I honestly will say now, KCD2 will be the one. It’s going to rock the RPG genre and of course BG3 was a masterpiece in writing! What a game! Good time to be a gamer! How about you, your personal favourite rpg of all time?
As a Bethesday fanboy, I have to say I have never agreed more with a youtube video. No one can take away Bethesda dominance until today. But tomorrow is here and Bethesda is like Nokia, refusing to understand what the future wants.
Unfortunately it really has! And it’s a shame because Bethesda were THE company! They were building open worlds and making side quests etc before the rest. They set the standards and I’m sure Elden ring, CDPR, KCD etc have all learned from them. Which is what makes it even sadder because they got so comfortable being at the top, that is has resulted in standards slipping and then where we are today
Hmm very much agree with your analysis but I think you missed some of the key draws of bethesda games. Firstly, being able to pick anything and everything up, even inconsequential items like cheese and books, makes the world feel fluid and interactive in a way that is missing in CD project RED games. Secondly the blank canvas of your character (though this is more for elder scrolls) truly allows you to roleplay as anyone, and if you have mods, anything CD Project Red gams in contrast force you into a particular role/persona. I adore witcher, but it is more of a 'Monster Hunter Simulator' in an epic fantasy setting, as opposed to unparalleled freedom the epic fantasy setting that elder scrolls provides.
So it’s actually really interesting you mention that about picking things up. It is absolutely a plus! When I first played ESO, I was generally upset as the first thing I tested was if I could pick everything up lol. And I couldn’t! No idea why but that really was an absolutely important thing with Bethesda titles. Even playing Witcher 3 or CDPR, it is missing thst as items don’t hit the same. I’m actually struggling to put this into words, but do you know what I mean?
Oh man…I’m praying for you. I wish you could experience the phantom liberty content but I don’t think they released it on ps4. I know they’ve worked really hard to make the game good on ps4 though so please let me know how it is! It’s a great game but I haven’t played it on ps4 in a while. Level 91 on fallout 4? That’s one heck of a run!

@@DFemiJdude, i really hope you have a good time with C77 in your ps4, but im afraid for you, ps4 is a last gen console, and CDPR stop to update the game on this platform so.e time ago, so im not sure your experience would be the same as a pc player or current gen.
Yes I think Bethesda just need a bit of help technology wise. They could also do with a little bit of help with writing to because it looks like they’re having a tough time with that in their recent releases. The stories are the same each game just tweaked.
IF Starfield is going to take off with the modding scene breathing fresh life into it, than it will be because the industry as a whole has become so lackluster that there are really just no good games to play and the gamers themselves use the Creation Kit to build stories to actually play an enjoy that the industry was unwilling to create for us.
I think that’s the irony. They left the world of starfield so empty and referred to it as a “modders paradise”. Almost suggesting that the modders will fill in the game. And then Bethesda will get a cut. It’s really said when you think back to their older work.
For me, CDPR is like that one friend who might made a mistake but he do his best to improve himself, accept his mistake and decided to become better person. Where Bethesda is like that one guy who never actually changed himself and stay right where they are. I remember how I feel so sad when I have to lost Jackie after Konpeki Plaza heist in Cyberpunk 2077 and want Dexter to pay for his actions. Heck, In most CDPR games, Characters feel like actual human. It’s something that I wish Skyrim - Starfield has it. Something I wished I felt after I lost Savos Arena instead of just “oh well, he’s ded. Let’s go get funny staff, then.”
I actually ask people. I’ve done several videos on it and every now and then someone will defend it, so I reply and ask why. The answers are almost illogical. Some have said it’s “peaceful” to explore the empty planets. That’s all I’ve gotten so far but I’ll keep investigating lol
Not sure how someone enjoying Starfield makes you sad-video games are a form of art, and as such, taste is subjective. People can like things you don’t, and vice versa. Starfield isn’t a perfect game, but I think it’s pretty fun and a solid 7.5/10. I personally really enjoy the faction quests and think BGS did a great job with those (especially the Vanguard). The exploration is better than NMS to me, simply because NMS has 5 empty POIs that I run into constantly on every planet, whereas Starfield has a few dozen and there is loot, combat, or stories being told at those POIs, which makes it a lot more interesting. The ship building is a lot of fun. Graphically, it’s the best looking BGS game we’ve ever gotten. The combat and gunplay here is great. I think the lore BGS has created for the game is interesting and will provide a nice springboard for more stories/factions in future content (like Va’ruun in Shattered Space). I have my gripes with the game and wish exploration were better. I wish the animation work was more varied instead of all NPCs using the same 5 gestures when in conversation. I wish there were more reasons to be in your ship, as they put a TON of work into the design/decorating of your ship. I wish there were more cities/settlements. I wish there were more NPCs with schedules like in previous games. That said, I still enjoy the game a lot despite its flaws and it provides me the space game experience I wanted-a BGS RPG in space. The game has a good foundation and will only get better as time goes on.
You know what’s really sad? I don’t even want to play it to clip gameplay for a video. That’s how much I have grown to dislike it. The difference in quality is night and day and Bethesda need to look at these games and learn from them. They don’t have to copy them, but these are now their competitors and CDPR probably learned a lot from Bethesda. It’s their turn now to learn from them.
i think its also the choices cdpr made after cyberpunk like switching to ue5 which is a big time saver and creating another studio to create games faster... literally the opposite of bethesda who insists on staying on an outdated engine and always making one game at a time even if that means that fans of their biggest franchise with the most sales have to wait 15+ years for a successor... and hear me out by now i think cyberpunk 2 will release before tes 6 also while i love cyberpunk 2077 and think its one of the best games ever it definitely still fails in many open world aspects... of course they dailed it up in phantom liberty but ofc they couldnt make over night city (adding points of interest and density which dogtown had)
I’d say Witcher 3 was near perfect. Delivered in mostly everything. Cyberpunk, although fantastic, still missed certain things like you said. The dialogue was a lot more one dimensional too as well. With not many decisions to be made. I think this was rectified with Phantom Liberty as quests have a lot of outcomes. And yes, dog town has more to explore whereas night city was more about the quests and exploring didn’t always yield much.
Yes and I know a lot of people say Witcher 2 was better than Skyrim etc. but I truly believe it was Witcher 3 that changed everything. I didn’t realise a game could be as large as a Skyrim but be even more detailed and well written. Before this, I assumed that if you wanted a giant open world, you had to compromise on other aspects. And then cyberpunk 2077, as of today not the launch, is a fine piece of art and you can see the technology advancement from Witcher 3.
When I read your title I thought, “My GOD! I hope NOT!” But now I see what you mean and I think you’re right. Or that is, at least, how things seem to be shaking out. CDPR seems to have overtaken Bethesda’s old turf. But it’s not just because CDPR’s powers are growing, or because they LISTEN to feedback and they CARE about good story telling. It’s as much due to the fact that Bethesda have abandoned their own turf. Starfield was a departure from what Bethesda used to be; and I don’t mean from fantasy to sci-fi, since CDPR did the same thing, but without their mistakes. It was a departure from character focus AND from proper story telling, and that’s why it’s so nonsensical, self contradicting, childish, offensively, “inoffensive,” and fundamentally lame. CyberPunk gave us cleverly created, well thought out CHARACTERS, with goals of their own, that were shaped by the corporations and politicians who ran their world. They gave us a STORY to compel us on our journey. I could tell something was really wrong when the promotional material was all devs talking about building outlandish ships, collecting all the sandwiches and other weird hobbies they’d invented to occupy themselves in this universe. None of them cared about the protagonist or the story! None of that mattered to them! Compare that to how the devs at CDPR talked about their game before it came out. All of them were talking about the dilemmas that V was faced with, how to cope with Johnny Silverhand, how any choice V made could be his or her last. The STORY and CHARACTERS are the HEART of any good open world game! And that requires good writers who get that.
Isn’t it crazy thst now when you compare something to Bethesda everybody thinks negative? They shows how far they’ve fallen! Honestly, the Witcher 3 and cp77 and two of my favourite games ever. CDPR were relentless in helping make cp77 want the fans wanted and in the end they do it! I can’t do anything but give respect to that. And their latest dlc was outstanding! Honestly I think if they can release one more game that is on par with their previous work I think they will become, if they haven’t already, console fans favourite RPG company! Bethesda are the other hand, I think they’re finished. They don’t listen to fans, they don’t grow, they just now focus on squeezing money out of fans and disregarding their opinions.
@@AVVGaming1 : I reckon, had it not been for the meltdown of a launch that CP77 saw, CDPR would probably already be established as the best open world games company with perhaps Rockstar sharing that top slot. I just keep remembering Todd Howard hinting that he probably only had one more major project left in him after SF; as it seems to me like he was more concerned with getting the Creation Club established and getting all those residuals pouring into his retirement fund than he was with creating any great games. Bethesda occupies a fairly niche style of gameplay to begin with and they couldn’t really afford to tread water, but to allow themselves to get carried back by the currents, when their nearest competitors are swimming forwards, even after nearly drowning, is just wilfully greedy and dumb, in my view.
CDPR makes some incredible games and stories. Cyberpunk is an absolute treat to play and I'm glad I stuck with it after that unfortunate launch and I preordered it. It was hard to play but the story characters world and dialogue were all top notch. I will argue it's top 10 in stories in an open world rpg and top 5 in game worlds
I love cyberpunk 2077 so much! I have played it 4 times from start to finish and I got it for the ps4 first. It was a rough start but I could see the magic below the issues. Now I got it on next gen with the expansion and as of right now the game is one of my favourite of all time! Please keep an eye out for my next Video because it’s the story of cyberpunk, it’s launch, it’s fixed and finally it’s redemption!
@@AVVGaming1 might be one of mine too. I'm trying to play to complete too many games right now lol I still have to finish KCD and I just found out the Witcher has 3 parts and 33 possible endings. I literally just got to Skellige lol but these games are so fun I get lost in the worlds doing side quests or training (KCD)
@@zay_tiggygaming I’ve done a video on KCD as well! I put 500 hours in my first playthrough and honestly I cannot wait for KcD2! Honestly it’s such a great game. Witcher 3 is my favourite video game of all time! I have finished it from start to finish over 10 times. I’m going to do videos on it soon but if you need any guidance or just want to talk about the game let me know! You have great taste in video games though! Every game you have mentioned are some of my favourites! Witcher 3, KCD and cyberpunk 2077 are in my top 10 for sure!
I love both cyberpunk and the Witcher 3 but let's not pretend that they treat the fans with respect because they're the ones who sold a broken game and fixed it 3 years later..
Yes! But the key is they did fix it. I know this is a bit of hot take, but I generally think they regret their decisions, and have tried very hard to rectify them. Anyone can and will make mistakes so I can forgive that. It’s when they repeat those mistakes, or take no accountability that bothers me. Let’s see what their next game indicates.
I could see what you're saying. I'd say that Witcher 3 has dungeons, too. All these caves you can explore and elven ruins you can find. I love both games but Witcher 3 is the better game overall the combat for witcher 3 took a bit getting used to. CDPR has alot of good things going for it i hope they keep it up and they are definitely a more consumer friendly company than Bethesda. I think Bethesda has gotten too big and is making the same mistakes blizzard, activision, and Ubisoft are making.
They are certainly headed the way with their recent activities. I think cyberpunk 2077 was a great game after they fixed it up but I’m not sure enough people have had a chance to play it judging by stats. CDPR turned things around but not sure if players have yet forgiven them from the response I’ve seen so far. It’s a shame, but the gaming industry is getting more brutal.
I think Bethesda’s glory days are behind it. I don’t think Witcher is on the same tier as Skyrim though. Cyberpunk is a better comparison because the world design is on par with Skyrim. I think Witchers combat, story, and quest design is not as fleshed out as Skyrim. Cyberpunk will be the staple game for their company going forward, not Witcher 3. If the next next Witcher game is anything like cyberpunk it’s going to be way better than Skyrim though.
Yes I agree as it had a set story for Witcher and a set main character plot etc. but based on cyberpunk having a create your own character, houses etc it does seem like they’re going for me of a custom experience and if they do Witcher 4 where you create your own Witcher, oh man, I’ll be locked in a room playing it for months. What’s your favourite game?
No while Warhorse studio does not make Fantasy crap like BGS their game design is allot like Old School morrowind with very open ended quest design. It Is one of the only open worlds that comes close to how alive the Likes of RDR2 feels. Its also has the best RPG quest Design since New vegas New vegas and also manges to have some really well written side quests as well. CD Project Red while having some great quests in terms of writing, lack in regards to their open world design. Their open worlds feel some what dated with Regards to systems and how interactive and reactive the open world is. CD Project are more like a Bioware replacement telling story driven RPGs.
I can see your point there! It’s more “controlled” and less rpg. In fact that’s probably why cyberpunk failed at launch as they had such good writing in quests etc but if you left that it lacked a lot. This was something they didn’t really think about. As for KCD, I’ve done a video on it. Masterpiece. And I am saying it here in writing, KCD2 will win GOTY I just know it! If the first was just a draft, I think the second instalment will be next level!
Yes and CDPR have fixed main characters etc. I was thinking, since Bethesda make games with no set character, I guess it would be harder to make a quest emotional. E.g. Jackie dying in cyberpunk was sad because V and him had chemistry. Bethesda try to avoid you being a V so it’s harder to build bonds. But just in general bethesdas writing has not been great in a while. It’s all very simple for sure.
@@AVVGaming1 the writing has never been “great” though. It’s always been kind of mediocre, but it’s fun because of its variety, and like you said, it’s “you can be whoever you want” and I find the magic of a Bethesda narrative is the stories you make up yourself in between the set narratives. I have always found Witcher to be a better cohesive game, but Skyrim is a game is that I spent many hundreds more hours into, and it’s the the variety. I don’t think Skyrim was topped by the Witcher because there is really only one pay to play the Witcher. That’s not to say that the Witcher 3 isn’t one of my favorite games, but Bethesda games are better for just “existing” in the world as it were.
@@joker6558 yes they’re both awesome games but for different reasons. I’ve probably played both of them from start to finish at least 5 times each. If I wanted to jump into a world and explore and get lost into it, I’d pick Skyrim despite Witcher 3 being my favourite game of all time. If I wanted a good story I’d choose Witcher 3. We are blessed that we have both.
Yes I understand what you mean. But I’m saying that if they managed to crack that part, keep the quests linear like they are (High quality) but then crack the open world formula, then it’s going to be really tough for Bethesda to match it.
I know their style is rather different, but I don't think you can characterise it as Bethesda v CDPR and sideline Rockstar. RDR2 is their Witcher 3, and the GTA franchise is a juggernaut. Sadly, I don't think ES6 is going to get big B back in the conversation, but Witcher 4 (or whatever else comes next) vs GTA VI is for the crown.
I honestly have placed rockstar as their own level. Like when you look at RDR2 and the work they put into it, it’s unparalleled. No one else is keeping up. GTA6 will push boundaries again. Their games are so good. What’s your favourite game ever?
@@AVVGaming1 totally the other end of the spectrum - What Remains of Edith Finch, for the ratio of time spent playing to time spent thinking about it. Of this type? Honestly, I lost myself in Skyrim and now I'm rather intimidated by them, I own Witcher 3, RDR 2 and GTA V, but instead of playing them I just stare at them in my library, transfixed, then play something I can get my head round.
@@gvigary1 I’d say GTA5 is pretty straight forward. Limited RPG and side quests more just a 20 hour main story so much more straight forward. The other two require you to give up a hobby lol that’s fascinating that What remains of Edith Finch is your favourite, I honestly really enjoyed that game. Just the atmosphere was really good and story telling, immersive is the word I would use
Honestly I've played CP2077 since launch on pc and I experienced almost 0 bugs genuienly, no gamebreaking issues only like a song being stuck on loop during a mission is about the worst I've had it... that said according to everybody who did experience a ton of bugs the game is appearantly much better for them ever since the Phantom Liberty update which also pretty much has majorly altered the game (systems, gameplay etc.) ...
been playing a lot of Witcher and KCD lately. it's too hard to get back into Skyrim now. especially with the load order bug on PS5. Bethesda needs to evolve. I was disappointed in star field because I was considering buying an Xbox to play it. I don't feel bad for them. They tried to take advantage of their community modders and it backfired. Modders say it can't even be fixed. it doesn't have my hopes high for es6
@@zay_tiggygaming yes this! I did a video called “are mods holding Bethesda back?” And I discussed this in detail. They really did want the world To be empty and for modders to fill it in! But it was an ask too far! They have to learn from this! You might like that video. It’s my second last upload if you wanna Check it out!
No cap skyrim is so old head compared to the witcher and cyberpunk. Bethesda doesnt hold a candle to CD currently. Flowers to Bethesda for being pivotal to shaping the gaming industry during their era
As I’m playing cyberpunk 2077 now, it’s so far ahead it’s not even funny. Technology wise, writing wise, general gameplay everything. I currently place it in my top 10 and Witcher 3 is my no 1. Bethesda have so much catching up to do, but it’s more than just one thing. They need to get some help otherwise if they drop another game like Starfield, and CDPR and rockstar keep moving forward they will never catch up
Hey sorry to ask this, but could summarise in your own words why it was better? I am doing a video on that subject in the future and am playing the game myself at the moment. But the more feedback I got from others, the more I’ll be able to make it happen
Totally agree! I am doing a video about this next. Bethesda games are an open world with a blank canvas of a character, you make your own story! CDPR has all characters quests etc. Its still open world but its more linear I guess? More focused. But at this point, CDPR are ONE game away from adding this aspect as well as the other stuff they're good at and then Bethesda don't have much left they are uniquely good at. Starfield was not good. The adventures were boring and the whole "radiant sidequests" where its the same quests from an unnamed NPC are just unacceptable. That is an adventure nobody would want to be a part of.
@@AVVGaming1 Right now I'm enjoying a similar experience with Bethesda games in another project. Dragon's Dogma 2 is all about giving players their own special adventure, from creating their own duo of characters to a large open world where the player can freely roam and cause themselves some "nice trouble". Capcom is the new Bethesda )
Hey @@AVVGaming1 , I liked the video! @glg1390 makes a good point; comparing CDPR with BGS is probably a bit of a stretch. CDPR has a lot more in common with Bioware than BGS, and I'd argue that Bioware lost its mojo starting with Dragon Age II, then the whole debacle with the ME3 ending, then Mass Effect: Andromeda flopped, then Anthem... I think Dragon Age: Veilguard is a make or break moment for Bioware, and if they fail again they're done. BGS has a lot of issues, design being one of them. When Todd Howard joined BGS they began turning their procedurally generated rpgs primarily designed by Julian LeFay (Arena, Daggerfall) into theme park action games. Each game that was released removed more and more role-playing features and the games became much more visceral and much less cerebral. Todd made The Elder Scrolls much more appealing to mass audiences at the cost of dumbing down the games, and Starfield is just the latest in a long line of games that have been condensed, reduced, and boiled down to mediocrity: Big in scope, small in ideas. BGS lost a lot of senior designers/developers when they made the switch over to theme park-style games. They lost more developers after Fallout 4 underperformed. At this point you have some of BGS's former designers starting their new studios, like Once Lost Games who are making The Wayward Realms (a spiritual successor to Daggerfall). There's also Something Wicked Games, which is making their own title right now. What I find interesting is that Once Lost Games is making a procedurally generated DEEP rpg, like Bethesda use to do in the 90's, and Something Wicked Games seems to be focusing on theme park designs which Bethesda did in the 2010's. In other words, Bethesda has created two competitors due to their shenanigans with their game design, and many of the acclaimed talent from BGS now works or consults for these other two studios. A video about how Bethesda is creating its own demise might be an interesting watch.
@@bobhopkins3770 Well, this may be one of the most awesome comments I have ever received! A lesson and an idea for a new video. There's quite a few good ideas in there and if that's okay, I will do a video on this subject. It's a crazy thing to see before our own eyes because they make the changes, bit by bit. Which when you then compare Morrowind directly to Starfield it's glaring. But it was done over the course of time. I have another video I am working on but then this will be my next video. It'll take a bit of research but I feel like it would be good fun to make! Anything else you recommend researching? You have given a lot of information already.
Thank you! Sorry to ask for feedback, but what do you mean by cameo? I am still new at RUclips and trying to learn every day. Can you share so I can learn?
A cameo would be Stan Lee in a very small role in any Marvel movie. Idris is more of a side character, but Keanu is definitely a main character considering he's beside you throughout the whole game
@@kbrnsr oh! Because I said it features cameos from them. Yes, in that case then I didn’t know what it meant lol. I always assumed it meant “an appearance from”. Live and learn! Thanks for dropping that comment! Was a nice little cameo! Lol
bethesda never made a game based on characters, stories and universe, they are all empty send boxes, and whatever the decisions the player made, they wouldn't a thing in the end, its like DnD.. the world stagnate
I would say that’s the gap that’s not been bridged. Like, it was okay back in the days of oblivion etc. but now, it’s expected as part of the package really. At least a little step up in terms of writing and character design. And just me personally, I love a good story in a game.
No commentary on the hand-placed content and depth of it(though it IS spread out), or the brain-numbingly clear focus on tech-based improvements. Say what you want about how extreme the facial expressions are, they clearly developed something very advanced there. Overall, people just expected to play a different type of game and complained when they got bethesda style. The game is actually good and it was a VERY polished release, especially compared to cyberpunk. Tbh the core of the games are still uncontested.
@@VelaiciaCreator I’m glad you enjoyed the game. I did another video on starfield with what my main complaint was and that was the lack of hand crafted content. I have spoken to people who swear that was the reason they loved the game. At the end of the day, it’s all opinion based. Some people think starfield is the worst game, whilst others think it is the best. I have spoken with both and both are right. I think if there is hand crafted content out there in starfield, it may not have been found as the game is so big. Did you find much in terms of hidden unique things whilst exploring?
@@AVVGaming1 Lack? It's all over. The procedurals was worldspaces, not the actual encounters/buildings etc. Procedural terrain. As for hidden things I came across a derelict ship you just... find and it was like being in your own Alien movie. Inside a fridge I found a cute message from one dev that was not present in another building of the same type. On the first planet, you can just encounter the Terrormorph and I just hid inside a building I found when it showed up outside the window. A lot of people just kinda don't understand procedurals or how they work. It's an algorithm that implements X under A conditions influenced by BCDEF.... They range in complexity from scattering hand-made assets around, but can also be used in more indepth ways to create some assets.... like rocks and dirt. For starfield, it would just impact the base ground terrain, environment types, resources in the area and where the rocks and structures go. Like Minecraft.
@@VelaiciaCreator do you think it was just too much repetition before reaching the content you’re referring to? For example, I ran into about 5 dungeons that were the same, 5 science outposts etc which all gave the same quest, go to cave and put in transmitter etc. so most people would just assume, okay I’ve seen all there is, even though as you’re saying that’s not the case. Would you change anything about the game if you could? I mean in specific to the world design, not anything else.
@@AVVGaming1 Starfield is a box of toys and a sandbox to play with those toys in. It is at its most enjoyable when you play with just one and don't play as you would another Bethesda game. Like, don't do the generic "dungeons" if you want interesting stories, instead follow the marked content/areas. The dev team split into several groups and did their own things in those teams. This results in the different systems having poor communication between them, if anything. As to world design, honestly the lore is still early in their timeline and is not at the level a lot of people expect from space-faring sci-fi civilizations. We're literally looking at a frontier where they've barely started, and were sent back some time via the war. All those outposts are canonically pre-fabs basically deposited to start various colonization, scientific and military efforts on the various planets. I think for the established worlds, they shouldn't have gone with procedural generation for that "cell" and likely could have had smaller settlements outside the cities with roads leading around. To be honest though their lore explains a lot of things and I think a lot of people just didn't read that stuff. One thing that I do find annoying is their implementation of procedurals. Basically, unlike Minecraft, terraria etc... when it generates the procedural terrain, it does it each time you load an area. It does not save this, discarding it when it's no longer rendered. It keeps the base height map that is generated, but the minor details like if big rock here or there. This can result in revisiting your base and seeing a weird clipping rock that wasn't there before.
@@VelaiciaCreator all great points! And yes I’d love it if the area stayed the same each time you visited it. The lore was okay with all the factions. I think it’s the first UC quest when you walk through the museum that’s important. If someone just skips that it’ll leave a lot of holes in the lore lol. I’d be interested to see how the first DLC is. It’s included with game pass I’m assuming so I’ll be able to play it and experience it. Thanks for your feedback on the game too.
I generally feel like 76 and Starfield were experimental projects outside of the studios comfort zone. Now they’re back to making fallout and elder scrolls, it will allow them to make the games we know they thrive at. I honestly feel like ES6 will shock a lot of people. CDPR and Larian studios have been doing great. Good time to be a gamer!
@@AVVGaming1agreed. Starfields biggest let down is its exploration due to the ambition and scope of the game being too big. ES6 I can almost guarantee wont have that issue as it’ll be a single location that we explore rather than the whole universe. They know how to do fallout and elder scrolls exploration and for as bad as 76 was, from the beginning the world was beautiful and fun to explore even if everything else was broken
It's unacceptable for Bethesda too be going backwards! They are owned by a 3 trillion-dollar company! surely, they can get whatever resources they need to make the best open world games in the industry!
You’re spot on! They’ve not just got the money. They’ve also got the fan base, the marketing, the reputation and the IPs. They have more tools than any other gaming developer and they should be miles ahead of everyone but alas, they have let standards drop.
A few people have said the same in that they don’t like cut scenes and that’s fine! I personally like them but it’s not for everhone and if you don’t like cut scenes, then naturally CDPR games may not be your cup of tea cuz they have loads! Either way though it’s all down to personal preference.
@AVVGaming1 i dont mind cut scenes but Bethesda not havin any is one of the reasons their games are so immersive. I think thats why the dialogue in Fallout 4 was so jarring, theyre essentially cut scenes
@@panzer00 yes and bad cut scenes as well. I definitely prefer the dialogue from fallout 3 and NV and even fallout London. But Bethesda know that and removed it after fallout 4 so can’t really complain. I do agree that not having cut scenes does make it more immersive for sure.
I agree but you can't play as your own character in cd's games which I like a lot more. If they create a game that allows Me to create my own guy/gal, then I'd be in heaven. Until then, I'm stuck on the elder scrolls. Edit: I'd like to add that cyberpunk was pretty freaking close to the same experience, except I didn't really click with the world as I'm more of a fantasy freak. If they continue on that path (which I guarantee they will), then yes. Id be 100% on board with this sentiment
You don’t get what he’s saying. He’s saying that CD project Red has overshadowed Bethesda in every metric nowadays. Bethesda isn’t what they used to be during the PS3/360 era where Skyrim sold a bajillion copies. The Witcher 3 came out in 2015 and overshadowed Fallout 4 by winning most GOTY awards and selling way more copies. (TW3 has sold 50 million copies btw while Fallout 4 has sold around 20-25M copies. Also Starfield came out in 2023 and was overshadowed by Baldur’s Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 that came before it in both sales and critical reception. So best believe when The Witcher 4 comes out it will surely overshadow the Elder Scrolls 6. Oh and by the way, there’s rumors that a character creator will be in The Witcher 4 has the devs say Geralt’s story is done. Man I feel bad for Bethesda
I get what you’re saying about having a pre made character like in Witcher 3. In cyberpunk they tried to make it your own character but you’re still V which has somewhat of a backstory. In elder scrolls you are a blank slate. I was just discussing this with someone and I don’t think CDPR can do this as it takes away a lot of the writing and emotional aspect. Like take Jackie, when he dies it’s so emotional because you know how close him and v are. That chemistry was there. It’s much harder to do that with a silent protagonist but it’s also nice to have that experience in a game like Skyrim. But I also prefer fantasty games like Skyrim and Witcher 3 over the futuristic setting of cyberpunk but it has actually grown on me a lot the more I’ve played it! Now on my 4th playthrough and loving it. The new DLC adds the finishing touches I feel.
You’ve got exactly what I was trying to say and narrowed down in just 1 paragraph! I heard that about the character creator in Witcher 4. I’m totally down for it, or for a new Witcher entirely or even ciri. But god knows. Geralt is my hero lol. It’s funny cuz I found him dull at first, but as time passed I fell in love with his personality. Witcher 3 and cyberpunk 2077 are two of my favourite games ever with Witcher 3 being no 1!
Man I just wished Bethesda could make a proper modern game in the massive universes they've created/ expanded (fallout). If what you say about the Witcher 4 is true with create a character, then I can finally immerse myself in their world. It's dumb but i can't do that with a predetermined character (no matter how much I love geralt) I'll give cyberpunk another go around and report back! The way V interacts with everything is crazy to me, I just hope I can vibe with the universe
Yep I get that completely from the video, their games are objectively better than Beth's ever since the Witcher 3 but I can't immerse myself in their worlds as much as I can with TES (not the biggest fallout, and obv starfield fan, yuck) because of the ability of creating my own character and backstory that I can use to affect how I play the game (even if it's rp in my head). Cyberpunk got crazy close to what I'm looking for and if the Witcher 4 has character creation like you said, than 100% I'm with you (Im trying cyberpunk again but I didn't mesh with the universe that much 1st go around). Beth isn't like how they used to be and I know they won't change. My baby TES will probably be reduced to mediocrity which makes me sad
Compared to The Witcher 3, the immersion, writing, storytelling and voice acting is terrible with Skyrim. It seems so overrated nowadays. The Witcher 3 continues to be a timeless masterpiece just like the Mass Effect trilogy (especially the Legendary Edition) which is on par in terms of all the aforementioned criteria.
Totally agree! They’re immersive because of the writing and decisions in it. You can’t zone out. Skyrim whilst great in many areas, tends to be boring in a lot of its writing and dialogue. Although, starfield is the next level of boring in talking with NPCs. I cannot listen to them lol
Yes it’s really changed now. After the release of Witcher 3 and cdpr77 I don’t think Bethesda can catch up anymore! Just look at shattered space dlc vs phantom liberty
The letter D doesn’t pay me anything but I had a huge falling out with the letter T and refuse to put in any more videos until it sorts itself out. lol just kidding, it’s my accent I pronounce a lot of words wrong. But I don’t want use AI. I’ll take feedback from people like yourself and implement it with the goal of getting it right over time.
It really is! Did you play liberty phantom? I absolutely loved it! And I agree with that about the post apocalyptic world. If CDPR gave it ago we’d definitely give it a try. I love their writing and quest design. Witcher 3 is my favourite game of all time, and 77 is up there too!
@@AVVGaming1 yes! cyberpunk isn’t even my preferred genre. But their quests make me feel emotions. Like when panam wanted her revenge i didn’t really want to help her… but you know what? betrayal must be repaid in blood, lets ride!
@@NuclearWinter69 yes or when Julie asks you to come over and you see Evelyn really caught me off guard. Rivers quest was amazing! Not sure if you’ve finished phantom liberty but I went with SG and that ending blew my mind! I’m won’t say more in case you haven’t experienced it
They might have had a chance to be, but I’ve heard that their entire development team has been replaced since they made The Witcher, Red Dead and even Cyberpunk, and it’s not looking good, so don’t get your hopes up. Bethesda style RPGs are probably dead for the foreseeable future.
We will have to see about that, we won’t know until they release their next game. I hope they haven’t done that because they got some serious talent at their company at the moment!
That's not true. 1) Red Dead Redemption is made by Rockstar, 2) CDPR established a new studio in Boston for working on Cyberpunk Orion and hires new people because most (not all, as like Pawel Sasko moved over to the US) developers kept home in Poland where the team there works on Polaris (aka "The new Witcher trilogy").
@@Hamurator just something I heard, maybe that’s what they were talking about. Just know they showed a picture of their development team and it was entirely made up of very liberal looking, white, American women, and that doesn’t inspire much confidence in me. Hope I’m wrong.
with their recent hires and investors theyre more like current bethesda than anything the title is implying. they both hired SBI as consultants as well. i wouldnt expect any big established studio to "be the new" anything, indie devs are the future. as soon as a company makes it big its doomed, it gets grabbed by the industry and drained. my prediction is that cyberpunk 2's release will be more criticized than the original release (and thats saying something).
Totally agree! It made them get complacent thinking they had already done I needed to do. They let it go to their head and made them arrogant where they ignore feedback. But they’re at the point now where if they drop another game and it’s below expectations thst the last few have been, it could be game over for them.
CDPR makes superior art in every way. Bethesda is already creatively dead, but once Todd retires, if Emil takes over as game director, Bethesda will officially be in hell
Completely agree. I saw an interview or a speech given by Emil about fallout 4 and he said “if you spend hours writing great work, fans are going to ignore it and build shacks for 4 hours”. Basically, saying well it’ll go over the fans head so don’t even bother trying. If this man takes the helm then I would give up on Bethesda completely
Yes it’s a set protagonist with a set story and that’s not for everybody. I didn’t play it either at first due to that same feeling but it is now my favourite video game of all time! If I can do one thing it’s to suggest you to try it again! But if it’s not your thing don’t worry!
@@Solomon11777 interesting fact, I bought it and put it down for years. Didn’t like it at all. Made myself a promise to sit down and play it one day due to the reviews. It starts slow. But if you push through, and get to the city of novigrad you’ll be fully invested and see everything the game has to offer. If you don’t enjoy it by then then it might not be for you, but it was that moment for me when it all clicked. Let me know any games you recommend to!
Yes and despite the hiccup of cb77 release, they managed to pull the game back and it’s now one of the most impressive games out. Both Witcher 3 and cp77 were fantastic but it’s the way side quests, character writing and writing in general are handled that I love the most. Decision making was a huge thing in Witcher 3 too.
What Larian studios did with BG3 was exceptional and their relationship and banter with the fans as well. Some companies just get it and I love that about them. What they working on now?
@@AVVGaming1 I don't follow much as I'm not reallg a mega fan as much as I admire their business model. However, I did hear it's the 3rd instalment for Divinity Original Sins. I only played the 2nd game and loved it though I never finished it because it's just so overwhelming.
@@clarencealger8380 I love their business model as well. It’s crazy how simple their general approach is right? Make fun games! Be nice to your fans! It’s that simple lol. Wish everyone would take note!
@@AVVGaming1 I don't think simple is the right word. They could do their best because they are their own publishers. They don't have to please shareholders because they have none. Every game they make is funded by their revenue from the last ones. Larian could do this because they have a good business mind and know how to manage their resources. Any other company will implode at this point and that's why so many of them rely on funds from publishers. Larian also know when to stop and start a project, keeping their people busy, whereas other studios would twiddle their thumbs unless they get outsourced or have a publisher tell them what to do. There's a lot to respect from how Larian operates and I'm not knowledgeable enough to understand how it all works. I just see common pitfalls and they somehow gracefully avoid them.
When I read the title I was thinking this was a video about how far CDPR had fallen. It says allot that when I hear new Bethesda I think of failures :(
@@TFAric yes that really does say a lot. Such a shame really. After the amazing run they had. But I think they still have one more chance with ES6 to turn it around!

2:43. I don't think your wrong, but I don't think your stament is right eaither yeah theyre competitors but they're not fighting it out. The fans just decided they were fighting. Lol bethesda been around. Doing what they do. Making games. Cdpr sorta been around but they're greatest games is adored, but tw3 horrible launch is ignored and overlooked. Your bold thinking cdpr is the new bethesda. If that's true that means any game cdpr comes out with will always have game breaking bugs. Or at least huge major bugs. Folks look through rose tinted glasses to suit their needs and take them off to also suit those needs too. Cyberpunk 2077 is nothing like skyrim or starfield. Sure they all have a story but that story goes about is way different. We're comparing the narrative style of 2 publishers. And you're basically saying the fish isn't as good as the moneky, which isn't as good as the bird.😂
Well in my opinion the fish will never be as good as the bird because it can fly. No but I get your point, it’s more that I feel CDPR are currently launching giant open world RPGs with hundreds of side quests on the same level I saw from Bethesda before. I remember cyberpunks launch (my next video) but I was not there for the Witcher 3 launch so I don’t really have an opinion on it. I was late to the Witcher party. But at the end of the day, if there was no Bethesda, there’d be no other games like this. Essentially, each game inspires and innovates to other game developers can come in and one up them. With so many great games coming soon, it’s a great time to be a gamer. What’s your favourite game open world RPG? Like which do you consider to best so far?
I think the “fan” reaction to SF was ridiculous, BUT I think THIS video is pretty fair, aside from undercounting the amount of content in SF. You made great points that BGS should heed. 👏
Thank you very much! I always try to be fair as possible. Bethesda set the standard for companies like CDPR. They were the ones to give us those giant open worlds. In my opinion, from what I’ve seen, starfield is just a different game to es or fallout. So it garners different reactions. Bethesda still are able to do great games. It’s in there for sure.
Procedurally generated contend would only works well if create emergent gameplay, otherwise it should be used with extreme caution. This is the sole reason why Bethesda has fallen deep as it is... First of all the focus too much in copy No Man's Sky, when they should have focus on copying Cyberpunk 2077. And I'm not saying that Bethesda shouldn't have made a space game, and instead make a cyberpunk copy. Bethesda tried to copy, the gameplay of NMS, without being able to do so, and the worst part is that they do have the money and resources to make an even better game than NMS, but didn't. Or instead they could have tried to copy Cyberpunk 2077, and give us a better experience. What we ended up with is a incredibly mediocre product that only serve to highlight how old fashioned is Bethesda.
I think they tried to aim to big. Take out the 1000 procedural generated planets and add in 3 three hand crafted planets and the experience would have been better. But they went for 1000 procedural generated planets instead. Todd referred to it as a modders paradise as there’s so much room to add things. But unfortunately, that same emptiness contributed to the games demise. And…no traffic, no people to use the mods which means people won’t make as many mods as it’s not worth it. Truth is, starfield was not the right execution and the people at Bethesda, besides Todd, must have known this at heart. They need to get back into making games like they used to.
Yes and that is the sad truth now. I made the title as if to say have CDPR taken the spot as the open world game champions? But now people see comparing it to Bethesda as a negative. How sad is that? What a fall from grace Bethesda have experienced
Cyberpunk 2077, even if technically, it is way better performance than at launch, I have no idea how anyone says it is one of the best open world game out there. 1, the developer promised the sky, and delivered a rock. This isn't like No Man Sky, which promised the sky, delivered a rock, and made good by slowly giving you an actual sky. This is a game that is fundamentally broken, beyond just technical. Cyberpunk 2077 is single handedly the game which told me straight up, no matter what the previous game a publisher/developer delivered, never trust their words and give them any credit. Only give them credit based on what they done now. CDPR really is a joke, much like Bethesda.
I will never let people try to rewrite history cyberpunk 2077 was so bad that it was remove from the PlayStation store and got the CEO to resign and its took 3 years to get where it is. And how many systems Bethesda has created from space combat to total ship customization and outpost building almost every where you want.I play both games and I know Starfield have more unique quests. And let’s not forget the fact that this year’s as it’s first DLC and at least one more. And when It’s come to mods Bethesda is still above everyone else. Starfield launches less buggy than the Witcher 4.I am not saying that cyberpunk is bad game now but I think it hypocrites to criticize a game with an another game that had a ways worst lunch than the other.
I think we have to at least respect the fact that they turned it around for cp77. But yes, the launch was a disaster and it’s remarkable it was green lit in its condition for ps4. Not just CDPR, but game developers across the world learned a valuable lesson that day. And I agree that the ship customisation in starfield was fantastic. Cp77, Witcher 3, 2 of my favourite games would not have been created if Bethesda hadn’t taken those first steps, they set the standards. As for the new dlc, I think it will be a much better addition to the game as it’s all hand crafted. You’re not wrong in what you’re saying though.
@@AVVGaming1 tanks you for responding to my comment. To be frank I think you right most people will prefer CDPR games. I am just so tired of people saying this game doesn’t have its own identity ( it’s just a mid game that should never existed). I have seen people literally make videos over Bethesda employees and discredited their careers, when it comes to Bethesda they use their name not their title in the company but the name .I do think this game deserves to exist at least for Bethesda. And for their future the next game will not be a univers but a country so less procedural and more and crafted. At the end only time will tell but I faith because I think Starfield is a great game and I think it’s make Bethesda a better studio because it forces them to try something new and see what works and what doesn’t
@@AVVGaming1they did but open world still lacks allot interaction its better then Witcher 3 but still lacking. I understand and that’s more of a personal preference thing. Some people love cut scenes as it adds to the experience. However, some people really dislike them and don’t want to be taken out of the game. It really is up to the player which they prefer. Although, I don’t think Bethesda have ever had a single cut scene besides the opening so they probably won’t start now.

Valve is doing the same thing
And in many ways it's worse because they are reselling you gambling casino loot boxes for various pixels that have real market value sometimes in the thousands of dollars
Why bother to spend time and resources on a game that could potentially make millions, when they already make billions selling you cosmetics, loot boxes, and publishing other people's games
Baldur's Gate 3 proves the sweet sweet money juice is there to make an actually well made handcrafted RPG
If only Bethesda would be learning from its mistakes, It could have been one of the greatest game companies.
That’s the trick. Listen to feedback, implement changes, dream game made. That easy really lol. If they took a poll, and just implemented the top requests, it’d make such a huge difference. I have no idea why they ignore their fans. It’s a new business practice that I have never seen before lol
Its crazy how much potential they have/had and choose to do nothing with it. Oblivion and Fallout 3 are in my top 20 games of all time.
Yep
But why? Bethesda has been fumbling for over a decade so what would ES6 be? Another disappointment.
Then you're in luck. It's called the Wayward Realms by Julian Le Fey and Ted Petersen two of the original creators of Elder Scrolls.

They are going full woke for The Witcher 4 and 1 Remake. Total collapse of the stock, short it.

@@gastonrelanez3724Damn, Idc. As long as they can balanced it right and still keep giving us good character design, I’m fine with it.
@@valenlevalenle6394 Witcher 3 was awesome! One of my favourite games of all time! Thank you very much for the kind words about the video as well :)
Everything will be clear with The Elder Scrolls Six
Yes so we just need to wait until then…
@@AVVGaming1 fingers crossed that is for sure lol
For now. If CDPR can avoid the corporate bs that caused the 2077 launch, then yes, they will become the new Bethesda. Only time will tell though.
Every mission in cyberpunk 2077 is so individually enjoyable and replayable that i havent unistalled since i bought it
I’m now on my 4th playthrough. Every side quest is so detailed and I love the characters. The gigs are awesome too! And then..even the cyberpsychos and NYPD markers are brilliant too! I was just going around doing the NCPD and they’re actually really detailed as well! No corners cut in this game I love it!

Well here’s the crazy part! Todd has never played ESO! He’s never looked at it he said so in an interview! He’s been focused on starfield and fo76 instead and it’s tough to watch. He won’t even look at ESO which seems mental since he has such an impact on the elder scrolls.

CDPR don’t have the dungeons or that same levell of freedom. But you’re right in that we have so many good options nowadays!
Only edgelords like Cyberpunk. Too edgy.
i still a modicum of hope that the success of baldurs gate 3 can finally shift the trends of gaming
What’s the story with Blizzard? I need to look into it and do a video on it really because I’ve heard the comparison a lot.
I'm about to jump out of a 3 month fallout 4 binge (lv91 currently) to cyberpunk on ps4. Pray for me.
All I gotta say is put cd project red as animators for npcs and Bethesda games will have improved quality
Yes I think Bethesda just need a bit of help technology wise. They could also do with a little bit of help with writing to because it looks like they’re having a tough time with that in their recent releases. The stories are the same each game just tweaked.
*Bethesda should combine Fallout, Starfield and Elder Scrolls into one mega franchise and give us 10 years of FMV games* 👌
Haha that would be mental! Flying your spaceship across a post apocalyptic city full of frost trolls lol
Let’s go get funny staff, then.”
i dont personally hate starfield fans but hearing about how some people can somehow enjoy starfield makes me sad
A big part of what makes games great is the talent and I’ve heard cdpr has been bleeding talent
I can’t say I’m excited for their next work
Bleeding talent? Care to elaborate? I’m interested in knowing what you’ve heard.
Yep i deleted startrash and played CP and was completely floored by the quality
You know what’s really sad? I don’t even want to play it to clip gameplay for a video. That’s how much I have grown to dislike it. The difference in quality is night and day and Bethesda need to look at these games and learn from them. They don’t have to copy them, but these are now their competitors and CDPR probably learned a lot from Bethesda. It’s their turn now to learn from them.
i think its also the choices cdpr made after cyberpunk like switching to ue5 which is a big time saver and creating another studio to create games faster... literally the opposite of bethesda who insists on staying on an outdated engine and always making one game at a time even if that means that fans of their biggest franchise with the most sales have to wait 15+ years for a successor... and hear me out by now i think cyberpunk 2 will release before tes 6
also while i love cyberpunk 2077 and think its one of the best games ever it definitely still fails in many open world aspects... of course they dailed it up in phantom liberty but ofc they couldnt make over night city (adding points of interest and density which dogtown had)
And yes, dog town has more to explore whereas night city was more about the quests and exploring didn’t always yield much.
yes, been recognizing this evolution of CDPR since they went public after Witcher 3
@AVVGaming1 I think the issue though is lack of Random Encounters and ways to interact with world.
@@Ronuk1996 are you referring to CDPR games?
Please keep an eye out for my next
Video because it’s the story of cyberpunk, it’s launch, it’s fixed and finally it’s redemption!
14:48 "Bethesda is known for 3 major IP's, those are: Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Starfield."
Doom : So am I just chopped liver? 😢
Isn’t that FromSoftware? Demon souls thru Elden ring, armored core 1 thru 6
All just rehashes on the same antiquated engine
I don’t know much about their engine but I’m sure you’re probably right
I think Bethesda’s glory days are behind it.
@@AVVGaming1 probably Cyberpunk is my GOAT. Everything about it is just amazing.
I feel like the new witcher game they're making will be the elder scrolls 6 we need. You can make your own character
No, Bethesda has never had fantastic writing, but its world is jam packed with different stories that you can create your own narrative
Cyberpunk is a lot more linear than BGS games though. Not the same.
Is cyberpunk not bugged anymore? Last time i tried when edgerunner dlc came out, and its still bugged when in mission.
They really did want the world

@@EasyGameEh at least I got to 25 seconds lol
No cap skyrim is so old head compared to the witcher and cyberpunk. Bethesda doesnt hold a candle to CD currently. Flowers to Bethesda for being pivotal to shaping the gaming industry during their era
As I’m playing cyberpunk 2077 now, it’s so far ahead it’s not even funny. Technology wise, writing wise, general gameplay everything. I currently place it in my top 10 and Witcher 3 is my no 1. Bethesda have so much catching up to do, but it’s more than just one thing. They need to get some help otherwise if they drop another game like Starfield, and CDPR and rockstar keep moving forward they will never catch up
Zelda 98' and Oblivion 07' where is Morrowind then?
:( I hadn’t played it. Oblivion was my first. I did play it later in my life and I actually consider it as the best one lol
indeed sir, indeed.
Morrowind was the last great elder scrolls game. I did still play oblivion and skyrim, but morrowind had sooooooooo much more.
Brother doesn't know what a cameo is ☠☠ but no fr nice video, I'd love to seemore examples in your scripting!
Bane to Bethesda: Victory has defeated you.
I heard that quote in that voice! It is absolutely spot on! That summarized it perfectly!
Let Bethesda keep on doing Bethesda. That's fine by me. There's something for every gamer. If Larian or Cd Project are successful, it's cool too.
No, because Bethesda doesn't interrupt immersion with cut scenes
Just a billion loading screens
It's dumb but i can't do that with a predetermined character (no matter how much I love geralt)
I'll give cyberpunk another go around and report back!
Honestly, I love playing FO3 and NV. But realistically, even t he best of Bethesda is mediocre compared to CDPR.
Yes it’s really changed now. After the release of Witcher 3 and cdpr77 I don’t think Bethesda can catch up anymore! Just look at shattered space dlc vs phantom liberty
Does the letter 't' in the middle of a word offend you, or are you sponsored by the letter 'd'?
The letter D doesn’t pay me anything but I had a huge falling out with the letter T and refuse to put in any more videos until it sorts itself out. lol just kidding, it’s my accent I pronounce a lot of words wrong. But I don’t want use AI. I’ll take feedback from people like yourself and implement it with the goal of getting it right over time.
Cyberpunk is so good. If cd red made a first person dystopian apocalypse series id drop Bethesda.
The success of Skyrim made bethesda sleep on their laurels..
The Witcher doesn’t have a character creator why I’ve never played it and probably never will
Yes it’s a set protagonist with a set story and that’s not for everybody. I didn’t play it either at first due to that same feeling but it is now my favourite video game of all time! If I can do one thing it’s to suggest you to try it again! But if it’s not your thing don’t worry!
@@AVVGaming1 thank I’ll give it a shot because hear a lot about it when taking about rpgs
CDPR is becoming everything Bethesda, was, is, and should be
Yes and despite the hiccup of cb77 release, they managed to pull the game back and it’s now one of the most impressive games out. Both Witcher 3 and cp77 were fantastic but it’s the way side quests, character writing and writing in general are handled that I love the most. Decision making was a huge thing in Witcher 3 too.
if CDPR is the new Bethesda, then Larian Studios is the new Bioware.
@@AVVGaming1
I don't think simple is the right word.
@@AVVGaming1 I don't care for Fallout and I have only played Skyrim when it comes to Elder Scrolls, I tried to play Oblivion but didn't work on my PC at the time. I have a feeling I will not enjoy the older Elder Scrolls as they are older and a bit clunky, I don't have the nostalgia to ignore that.
I hope that Elder Scrolls 6 is great, I have had allot of fun with Skyrim and enjoy the universe, I don't need it to be Cyberpunk, Witcher or Baldur's Gate, I just want a fun game that is a bit of an upgrade over 5.
I didn't comment on the video, sorry it was a very good video!

Well Bethesda already went DEI and now CD PR is also going DEI so in that regard, yes.
No. Because Bethesda Game Softworks are overrated.
Cyberpunk sucks, it has nothing to do with bugs
Why do you think that? Anything in particular not hit right with you?
Games like Skyrim, Oblivion, Bully, RDR2, Kingdom Come and New vegas have much more interactive and reactive open worlds then Cyberpunk. Starfield is just that lacking that Cyberpunks open world needs work. CYberpunk is great but let's not act like it's this ground breaking game they advertised it as.

I hate cut scenes it constantly takes me out of the game, I love the fact that Bethesda games don’t have any, it’s brilliant, it’s you the player no cutting away to little scenes, I think cinematic cut scenes are cheap work arounds
For me..Skyrim is much much better, more enjoyable compared to w3
Witcher 3 is my favourite game of all time but Skyrim is way up there too. But, they are very different. I’ve just done a video just two days ago called “is Skyrim immortal” and the bottom line is that although Witcher 3 may have the better side quests, Skyrim offered a lot more in terms of content and different things the Witcher did not offer.
