- Interactive Oregon Trail Walkthrough:
• The Oregon Trail - The...
Gameplay of yet another favourite DOS game of mine. One version of Oregon Trail that is actually surprisingly hard to find a download for these days. For those that haven't played the game, the game takes place in 1848, and you get to pick from 1 of 3 starting roles to play as. Consider each one the difficulty setting, as the money you start with varies.
Banker from Boston - $1600.00
Carpenter from Ohio - $800.00
Farmer from Illonois - $400.00
One other thing that must be said, if you survive the trip, if you started as a banker, your score won't be multiplied, being a carpenter will multiply your final score by 2, and being a farmer will multiply your score by 3.
Along the way 1 of various random events can occur. You may get robbed by a thief while your party is sleeping, your cart may catch fire (somehow....), someone could get lost, someone could get sick or even die, you might find wild fruit, etc. Along the way you stop at various landmarks and forts. You can also hunt for food if you run out of food along the way. Don't waste your bullets while hunting though, you can only carry back 100 pounds of meat each trip. Игры
You come across a stranger on the trail named Terry.
You laugh at him, saying Terry is a girl's name, and he shoots you.
You died from dissin' Terry.
Ugh that's so.......... ..............awesome!
🤣🤣🤣
Not even 2 minutes in the game. *JENNIFER HAS A BROKEN ARM*

Just Before reaching the third stop: *JENNIFER HAS DIED*
Lol

Jennifer was a wuzzy!!!
This game in a nutshell: You have a lot of food, slow speed, large portions, you are just going some miles, then: your family dies.
Then you have to sit in one spot. Cuz the dysentery and all.
there was real life in past. people dead bcz of low quality of life and lack of medicine
The Oregon Trail is a masterpiece and a solidly fun game to play. It was revolutionary in its time and still has a major nostalgia following.
I wonder if you remember leaving this comment 8 years ago.

Protip - when your people get sick, just rest a few days and take some time to go hunt. That's how I kept my dudes alive. I've completed the trail with every difficulty option, and this has never failed me.
Ya, I've learned to start doing that since I made this video. Thanks anyway! :)
What about forging the river?
How do I get more water?
@@JZM006 you should usually just rest and decrease food just a little bit.
@@NoobRager These poor people survived all this, only to get to Oregon and see a BLM riot and turn around.

I miss seeing my buddies name in the game who Had that class at a different time than me. Here lies Tom Good times
Jennifer was holding everyone up anyway. Mercy death.

I was 8 when this masterpiece came out. Always died of dysentery - ALWAYS. We were the generation that could pronounce "typhoid" and "cholera" in kindergarten. Good times.
😅
wait, people struggle to pronounce those words!?
I'm joining a conversation that started 4 years ago.
@@Michael-vh3tj about a computer game that came out 38 years ago
Time trap. 😃
still better than infinite warfare
Even though you can die from dysentery in this, infinite warfare is still shittier xD

Oregon Trail goes back to the 80's! I remember playing this and Number munchers in elementary school. Dang I'm old😂😂😩🤔
It was created in 1971
Yeah but you're a fox
I remember number munchers!!!
@@mortenpettersen5233 Apparently it used to be a text-based game when it originally came out and is pretty popular at schools.
Pretty interesting stuff.
@@rayvega3163 surprised to get a reply after 3 years!
This game taught kids so much more about management then what the teachers could ever hope for.
It’s night time, June 27, 2020. I’m now in my 30’s and showing my daughter Oregon Trail. I’m happy you posted this. I was telling her how i was forced to play this game in computer class from elementary all the way through high school. I remember every time a teacher would say “Today we get to play a fun game. You’re gonna like it. It’s called Oregon Trail.” Most of the kids would mumble “Noooooo. That game’s boring.” And there’ll be that ONE kid that says “YYEEESSSS! I LOVE that game”, because they’re really good at it. My teachers always got mad at us for losing and lectured us for “not trying hard enough “.
And I was that kid.
@@asrieldreemurr3832 lol that’s awesome!
Is it bad that we actively tried to see how fast we could make everyone die?
I was that kid that loved the game. But I had no idea what I was doing anyways I was very bad at the game.
i wish you luck in life
I actually stayed after school just to play this game... and I was far from alone. Great memories.
I remembered playing this game back from 4th to 5th grade. It was really fun computer game. It was not just a game it was just educated us on Oregon History if I'm right.
your around 33 34 years old huh
I love the secret ending where you don’t go to Oregon and just go to Florida instead
What?
Wait what???
😆
Gamespot listed this title in their now closed "Greatest Game of All Time" list. And it actually figures as to why it was added, this is a very fun game that introduced many of the stuff that would be later used by newer simulation games (second only to M.U.L.E.).
Born in 1983. Haha this brings back fond memories playing this in elementary school
Same here! Born in 84
First video game I fell in love with, we had it at school and I would play it literally all the time.
This is one of the first games I've ever played I remember being in grade school playing this game and where in the world is Carmen Sandiego. And then King's Quest those three games are like my original games ever played .#nostalgia
Frank Florez Ya, this was one of my first games back in the day too. :D
And SIm Tower
Loved this game. Screw the CD remakes. Apple original ruled.

I like how on the very first day, a thief comes along, but he only steals 2 pounds of food. Then, the same day, another moron comes and steals more food. Seriously, what is with thieves and their food?
+Annathecommenter Lol, gotta love the Random Number Generator. :P
There once was a time when I was playing this and a thief only stole 5 bullets. There was also a time when a thief stole 2 oxen. How does a thief get away with stealing live mammals?!
+Shortmandesigner there was this one time where a theif stole 10 oxen from me :////
Shortmandesigner I'm late, but there was a time where the wagon tipped over and I lost 1 bullet and nothing else.
Judging by your profile pic, you've stolen alot of food
@@jessicarojo1323 my friend was playing this game and a thief stole all 12 of his oxen
Why is this not an app on my phone yet?
Cuz its a cumputer game
This Oregon trial and number munchers was my jam back in the day. Funny thing is I could beat contra on NES without the 30 lives code but neither of these games.
Same. Those games were awesome.
1:46 AHHHHHHHHH! Hope you're not in a silent room…. or wearing HEADPHONES.
MaiCohWolf Lol, what's wrong with the music? :P
Shortmandesigner It just comes out of nowhere! If you're wearing headphones or in a quiet room it's so unexpected… like a boobytrap!
MaiCohWolf my sound was on full aswell, i think my ears died...
Ross Puddy I didn't need my ears anyway.
Barney And Friends Theme Song.
Funny thing, I had no idea about this game, but Mark Manson's book just brought me here :))
I love this game. Bring me back to my middle school days.
You could always play it again if you wanted to.
Wow this brings back memories we played this game and seemed so high tech back in the middle school lol 😂
I remember playing this and reader rabbit...Its been so many years since then...
I remember playing this game back in grade school longtime ago brings back know memories in school lol.I came here from the memories as a kid cause I bought the Organ Trail version with zombies lol.Gotta try that one out only costed me $2 on the play station store on the ps4.
Big Killa Assassin I came here for good ole childhood memories myself
Yes indeed! I seen the Jennifer has measles an the memories came flooding in with here we go again 😂
I helped translate Oregon Trail to work on the C64 when I worked at MECC along with many other educational games they developed. Awesome time!
That's awesome! :D
That's pretty cool :)
I never had this version as a kid, when I was old enough to become interested in wanting it, I'd played this once at a friend's house, but my parents bought me the version that was out at the toy store that year, which I believe was either the PC version or maybe just the newer version, but it was the 1992 Oregon Trail Deluxe. I loved it, both versions!

If you didn’t play this, you aren’t a 90s kid.
Takes me back!
@TheGIRLwhoPOONEDyou Ya, this is one of my favourites as well.
As I said earlier to someone else, I might end up doing a playthrough for this, so check back later if you want.
Thanks for watching! :)
Such nostalgia!! I used to play this on the old computers back in middle school and as a kid. I hard time lol 😂
I named my five off of the Stardust Crusaders, rest in peace Joseph and Kakyoin.
The data this game was released was 1971... such a creative mind to make this.
Sorry for my bad english
Actually there were many versions of this game. The first version did release in 1971 but the one I am playing was released in 1989. Main difference is it has very slightly better graphics than the 1971 version.
Bring back memories
@zinzeta Not a problem! :) I might end up doing a playthrough of this game soon, so keep an eye out for it.
We used to play it in the library, you could only sign up for 30 minutes at a time, which is about time enough to kill your team
This unlocked so many memories
This takes me back.
I use to play this during and after school back in the 4th grade.
Kept dying but was very close to the end. XDD
Great game.
Ya, I remember playing a lot of old games in school too besides at home.
The text version is the one I know, from way back. A game out of Minnesota, MECC is Minnesota Educatinal Computing Consortium. I am probably a software engineer because I had access to computers when I was a young teenager back in the 70s. I got to play with Apples, a TRS-80, an HP time shared system, and even a CDC Cyber before I started college.
Still played to this day such a good game
I remember playing this game in computer science in high school on an apple computer back in 92
Oops, ya the description is a bit outdated, heh. I was meaning to change that when I found some other versions of this. I'll change it now.
Ah, yes! This, number munchers and Odell Lake was my jam in school when I was a kid. Love it!
I've played Number Munchers but I've never heard of Odell Lake before.
Thanks for watching!
Funfact:
I had a character that broke his arms three times, broke his leg, got dysentery, ( I took no stops for him ) and survived. I also had somebody get cholera and die immediately....
Could never finish this game, everyone would drown :(
Great fun for kids! 😬
I will Always love my childhood memories playing this game as a kid.
You Americans who got this in your youth were lucky. Seemed fun and educational which is the best way to learn anything
Well not just Americans, Canadians too. ;) But yeah, I played a lot of edutainment games when I was a kid. It's fun to go back to them from time to time too.
@@Shortmandesigner Apologies. Americans in the continental sense. North Americans.
@@A-small-amount-of-peas No worries, I figured you meant that, I was just being silly.
This game, Odell Down Under, and Super Solvers Treasure Mountain and Midnight Rescue. Hellz yeah.
Man! I remember playing this in elementary school.
Lol, cool! Thanks for sharing. :)
I had this exact version growing up, but I wasn't very good at it when I was a kid, lol.
I miss this game
I remember this game in elementary school. I was just showing my 12 year old stepson what I played
I’ve bested the trail 100’s of times!! Some would say I’m the goat of OT. I do not miss
Oregon Trail: We come in peace, Native American Indians, here, have some clothes and oh, let me take your land and sorry about the dysentery.
Remember this game. Always dying in this from some disease.
The fact that my cousins real name is Jeremy James was creepy cause you got that in order.
I remember this game. I sadly forgot the name for years until I came across a video. And it clicked in my mind. I had to look it up. 😢 Good memories I had this game when I was younger and played it on my computer as a child. It was fun. Hard to play 😅
You could always download DosBox and a copy of this game if you want to play it again. :D DosBox is a free emulator and a lot of DOS games are free to download, with some that you can still buy from certain sites.
@@Shortmandesigner crazy that your responding to comments after all this time!
@@Mqkji Full time work plus trying to keep up with other hobbies as well keeps me busy now. So I don't get the free time that I used to in order to focus on RUclips. But I'll still reply to comments when I can.
Plus the fact that when RUclips took away annotations it quite honestly killed a lot of motivation that I had left to upload since annotations was a common thing in my videos.

I like this game. Today, my teacher taught us history, so she got this game, and we got to decide what to do.
That's so cool that some teachers are still showing their students this game! :)
I would unironically love a modern Oregon Trail.
Death Road to Canada is pretty close
I used to ignore my computer class assignments and play this almost the entire time lol.
That ox has a very elegant walk :)
That moment in 6th grade when 30 Apple IIe started playing the 8-bit version of "Yankee Doodle Dandy" right at the beginning of computer class... 🤣🤣🤣
You're right, my bad! There is also a Chimney Rock in North Carolina that I have visited. Similar structure.
In Canada we would play Cross Country Canada in school instead of Oregon Trail, it was a lot of fun when I was a kid haha
Oh dang, I never even knew about that game. Life is so busy for me lately, but if I do more game videos in the future, I'll have to keep this one in mind.
In my elementary school it was Oregon Trail, Treasure Mountain, and the Midnight Rescue series.
@Mika20 Ya, when I was little, I had trouble with this game near the end as well.
I remember when we all would be playing the Oregon trail on the computers
RIP Jennifer.
Tigerman1138 She was a Whiny bitch anyways!
@FinnTaho Ya, I've noticed I've been getting a lot of views for this video lately, mainly since this was in the related videos list on his video.
This was technically the first RPG I ever played in 4th grade.
Memories dude.
I became addicted to this game recently
Here’s my main party of people
Jimothy (a farmer from Illinois and a spoof of CallmeKevins character Jim Pickens)
Gumball (from TAWOG)
Homer (From the Simpsons)
Leslie (Also from TAWOG)
Papyrus (from Undertale)
Odd cast but here’s what I learned after playing
1. Jimothy has very bad aim with rifles (my fault lmao)
2. Gumball, either really likes or really hates snakes (seriously he got like 12 snakebites in like 5 rounds)
3. Homer Simpson has the weakest bones ever! (One round he broke like 3-4 bones)
4. Floral immune systems are very weak when it comes to dysentery (seriously, Leslie kept dying of that over and over)
5. Papyrus is very strong! But gets exhausted easily
6. Jimothy is very bad at steering (we kept getting lost and we drowned in the Colombia River twice)
7. Jimothy LOVES to hunt, despite sucking at it (the hunting mini game is so fun)
8.Cartoon Characters make lousy swimmers (Leslie, Gumball, and Homer are the ones who drowned the most)
9. What Fording and Caulking were
10. Wagons can spontaneously combust
The game's RNG can be weird sometimes, lol. Seriously, robbed right at the start of the trail! XD
And yeah as you probably saw at 6:48 in my video, despite my party's health being good and having plenty of food, Jennifer dies of measles even after I hunted to rest the other party members.
Regarding the drowning bit, as you likely learned by now if a ferry isn't available you need to wait for the water to be low enough so the oxen can get through the water or the wagon doesn't tip.
Missed this game so 😭👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾💯
It's 2024 and I'm showing my kids the pinnacle of computer gaming. Jennifer was tearing that family apart.
I used to love to play this!!
Still my favorite game I wasn't even born in the 1900 when this was made
i did not speak english at all when i found this in my school computer lmao, it was so chaotic from my perspective
Their should be a modern Oregon Trail game... Make it real time... A full real time Map... With loads of random events and things you can do... You could customize your families appearance .. you can fix and modify your wagon... Whole 9 yard's.. would love to play it..
Awesome.👍
You died from Dissin Terry. 😂
At one point, our school upgraded the computers and suddenly the oxen were booking it like they were on uppers. Lol. Everything in the game happened faster with the new computers. I love that that's how computers worked in the 90s.
The way the deer got off after witnessing the rabbit getting shot😂😂😂
I loved this game despite only winning once. It was so cool.
Yeah this game can be fun even if it's challenging. With enough practice though wins can be consistent. Just as long as you don't get screwed by RNG like I did though. XD Health is rated as good but a party member still dies.
Well this sure does clear a few things up.
idk why i remember more brown and less green lol but yay! i miss this game! i think this is what got me into gaming haha
Well actually depending on the season in game and maybe depending on the location, the colours do change slightly. I do recall the colour being brown a few times instead of green. :)
@MrCombatcarl This is why people need to use time stamps more often! XD I completely forgot about that, and the weird thing too is the fact that the party health was rated at Good.
R.I.P. Jennifer
Tried the game on farmer ONE TIME. On literally the first step my cart caught on fire I lost 1000 lbs of food and one of my people's arms broke. It was March 1
Francine was bitten by a snake
How did Juliet get? Usually when someone in my group had cholera, they died, then everyone else came down with it and died too. I had lousy luck. LOL
@Shortmandesigner Though scratch that outlaw part except maybe in Skagway and Dyea, and replace with "winter mountain traveling" and there you have it. Thought that ought to be cleared up.
I miss this game. Lol so much Nostalgia from grade school prior to Elementary so I was very young when I played this, or was it Elementary class it had to be yeah it was LOL
Well, you could always download DosBox, which is a free DOS game emulator. Then download The Oregon Trail, unzip the folder somewhere in your directory, then run the game through DosBox. There are plenty of tutorial videos on RUclips if you need any help. :)
