I came to Israel 24 years ago, it was never so hot, I didn't even need a fan, now it's impossible to live without an air conditioner. The houses in most of the country have hardly changed, except for the prices and the people I guess life was calmer in the 80s and people were more polite.
the crooked landlords charge waaaay too much, but they themselves living it up on some island in the Bahamas, while we slave away making ends meet. No worries, been here 27 years and never been happier. Thank Gd
todays landlords are crooks and thieves, sitting on some island in the Bahamas, while we slave away to pay insane rent. Im paying 2500 for a 12 meter flat, and i work from home, mostly computer work, but also make odd wood working projects. Happy to be in Israel, even if the cost of living is mad. they say the average monthly wage is 8000+, which means i technically live below poverty level, and have done for 27 years, but ive never been happier, as this is home. I love Israel and Israelis-even if we dont have much, we're among the happiest nations on earth
@@randomtux1234 It is a free market. Nobody is forcing you to live in a shoebox in Tel-Aviv. As long as there are people willing to pay these prices, there will be landlords that will charge them. If you owned an apartment you would also charge the highest price you can get.
@@randomtux1234why not move? It’s not like the US where if you move to a cheaper state you’re 5-10 hours away from where you grew up in. You can move 15-30 minutes further away from Tel Aviv and have a 60-90 cubic meter apartment for the same price. Or if you really want bang for your buck go to a settlement and pay next to nothing for a private home, might as well considering you work from home.
Nicely preserved/restored footage. Would've been nicer if you hadn't been quite as tight-assed about your IP, and settled on inserting the top right-hand corner logo, without plastering that intrusive title at the very center of each and every friggin' frame...
Thank you. It would be nice if the water mark was not right in the middle of the frame to interrupt the attention of every video. Could you please upload it in a more clean manner please?
Interesting observation. A/C units were just starting to get popular back then and were shaped differently, like boxes that required a small rectangular opening in the wall, which maybe a bad option for the old buildings and working class neighbourhoods which are filmed. The climate was probably a bit cooler due to being less populated and of course less global warming and nature degradation. These old buildings were built with natural cooling in mind and people had adapted so of course we weren't addicted to A/C back then like we are now.
In addition to the other comment, at that time Israel's economy was in severe inflation and A/C's were just too expensive for the average people and were considered as a lower priority luxury item, just like VCRs and color TVs, an interesting anecdote to understand the way of thinking back then, Israel's public and only TV channel was still forcibly broadcasting in black and white until 1983, a year after this video was recorded, although the shows actually were recorded in color they were still transmitted in black and white in order to prevent the forming of a class gap between those who could afford a color TV and those who couldn't. I'm not saying no one had an A/C back then, but most people probably decided to spend their money on something else first.
the climate actually were less hot than is today, I live in Israel since 1996 and back then we used fans onces or twice in the summer, air conditioners became more common in the 00's that's for sure.
Wow... it looks nothing like the Israel I grew up in, I'm too young to have seen any of this, And yet.. I feel so much more connected to this because it feels like it had a purpose. It was supposed to be the homeland of a traditional nation that respects its history and heritage, Instead we became a wannabe America liberal dump with LGBT flags all over Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem, The 80's looked rough and miserable. but life felt hopeful... Now we have everything yet life feels empty.
indeed. but what is unique about Israel is the hilarious people, the good air, and above all- spirituality. While teLAviv and jerUSAlem are forgeries of amerikkka, the folks here are wonderful, funny, optimistic---and LOUD. I focus on the positive and am 99% reasonably happy 99% of the time, even if im living in a 12m studio thats waaaay overpriced. I love Israel forever
This is not Tel Aviv, this is Jaffa. Many Arabs live in Jaffa even now, but in 1982 there were many more than Jews. Now the area of Jaffa looks different.
Why would you say that if half the video is clearly from the Carmel market and Kerem Ha Teimanim neighborhood. It's not Jaffa. That's a Yemenite Jewish neighborhood. The footage even shows some addresses, some very recognizable locations and such. The other half is from the old city of Jaffa. BTW, both are administrated by the same municipality from the beginning of the state of Israel. The full name of the city is Tel Aviv - Yaffo.
Старый Тель Авив, как и тогда был некрасивым так и сейчас. Жара, солнце и две с половиной пальмы. Разве что небоскребов по-больше, машин да ресторанов. Самое красивое и эстетичное - это церкви.
was a socialist hell hole...a bit better now but government still making many sectors much more expensive, housing transportation, education...all centrally planned or heavily taxed and regulated...
Arab Muslims is actually the nation that invaded the most countries, including the Holy Land. Just like Romans and Greeks before them, just like Spain, France, England in the Middle ages. Land of Israel existed long before Islam even became religion.

@@randomtux1234 Nonsense, most "landlords" are regular people who live not far from the apartment thy rent out, sometimes they are themselves renters.

Да уж! Тель-Авив сильно изменился, а вот Яффо не очень.
Красота) и ни одной высеки и таблички на арабском! вот как должно было быть!
