    Here (in France) for mice (we don't have rats), I use lavender and peppermint essential oils mixed with water, in a pump sprayer. I spray on the floor and the uprights of walls or walls, once a month durind high season . These critters hate these odors and flee further, out of the place where my horses' food is stored (which I store in an out-of-service chest freezer).
    Hope that will help 😉

      If you could catch a weasel and hold him in a cage for about a week, where it will see and smell the rats, you would just have to feed him a piece of fresh stew meat every couple of days and fresh water every day, then open the cage at dusk and leave the cage open, keep feeding him, beause the cage will be his den.
      There is another way, but I can't tell you I'll have hate mail for telling you this method, and I know it works.

      Oh yeah! That makes perfect sense and a good idea. We made a trap out of a bucket with a rod in the middle. With a little flipper thingy. When they walked out on it, they fall in the bucket and it traps them. Pretty neat idea too. A man needs a lot of ideas when working with rats lol. Thanks for taking time to watch and comment. I use to feed corn and oats mix back when I had a place to grow it. As you say, you bout gotta grow it yourself if you want anything worth feeding for sure. Find a local farmer raising non gmo corn you won't have any problems. Non gmo corn has softer kernels and it is all I feed my young hogs and they eat it with no trouble. The new varieties of corn are designed to last longer on the cob hench the quality of corn goes down.

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  Год назад +1

      They ain’t anyone growing any around here anymore. Not even the Amish. I think what’s worse than the gmo is the fact they dry it so hard. I grew gmo and Dixie 18. My mules and horses always liked both. But I didn’t dry mine either. I let it dry down before shelling it. And always kept my stock looking good. But now it’s high as crap and I can buy a straight sweet feed or all stock cheaper which is nuts! Thanks for watching and commenting as always!

  • @karenatha7890
    @karenatha7890 Год назад

    All the more reason I've always wanted a mule! They don't get sick much. Too bad my health went. I enjoyed the video. Keep on doing RUclips. Just be yourself and tell us all about things. We can learn off each other. Do you watch other farmers, homesteaders and working horse videos? There are some good ones. And they make money at it. As for the rats - using poison in an outdoor setting kills birds like eagles and other animals in the food chain. There's rat dogs. But a few cats will do great. They're clever enough to avoid getting kicked. But please remove the poison. Ratter animals like cats..just feed them enough to stick around and they'll do the job. They can be sweet little buddies. You could get them from a shelter and save their lives.

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  Год назад

      Thanks for watching and commenting. And yes you’re right mules are easier keepers for sure: they don’t eat near as much as a similar sized horse either. And as far as cats, we can’t really have cats here because of my wife’s critters. And we don’t have any birds that come in to and around the barn so no worries there: but the rats are ridiculous although the poison has slowed em up some seems like. And we’ve got traps out too. Thanks again!
