The '05+ Crown Vics have 31 spline axles and the Cobra differential is a direct bolt in. Makes for a decently strong set up. I put the Cobra diff in my '06 CVPI. If neighbor is older than '05, it would be well worth getting a later model CV rear end to swap in. They are available and cheap. Would also be cheap since you can use the diff in the wrecked 500. Probably just leave the gear set on the diff and swap the whole thing in.

CV's are made to sit and idle all day w/o overheating, hence the big ass fan and radiator, and also have a special driveshaft rated for 150+ mph, and the highway patrol models with the long trunk are rated to be safe for 70 mph impacts. Few bits of info, and all that varies by year also. Most of that is for 98-05 year models also.

The last build that i did was a severe wrecked pickup that we thought all the running gear was ok on. You could tell everything looked like it shifted forward like on this GT500, but looked just fine. We found after completing the build, and driving in all of 50-60 miles, the drive line pushed forward on the output shaft on the transmission and moved parts inside. Good luck. Super cool build here i think.

From what I remember the oil pan from the 4.6 could fit on the 5.4 if you’re worried about fitment issues. Badass build though man!!

The sides of the 4.6 & the 5.4 blocks are identical. The mounts on the 4.6 will bolt to the 5.4. You may have trouble with the AC box on the fire wall as the 5.4 heads are a lot wider than the 2 valve heads on the 4.6. The oil pan from the 4.6 will bolt on to the 5.4 block again the bottom of both engines are identical. At one thing Ford made both blocks on the same machining line.

Yeah just save the motor mounts from the 4.6 and put on the 5.4 . They both are based loosely on the push rod 302 block casting . And I really don't think you can take the engine out the bottom in the Vic but maybe .

Hell yeah brother, the engine swap will be easier than you think. The 4.6 & 5.4 are almost identical engines, you're right there will be a lot of work. But I think you and Cooper will be surprised at how similar everything is. Kind of like removing one LS to replace it with another LS

They are very close lol 5.4 was a taller deck height then the 4.6 and bigger internals if I'm correct if not someone let me know please lol but mustang guys swap 5.4s in the same place as the 4.6
Jacob Chilton I have a 4.6 f150, been looking to do the engine swap to 5.4. The 5.4 is the same block and cylinder size with slightly longer stroke, only changes you would have to make ( in the truck anyway) is the intake would have to come off the 5.4, and you would need to get custom exhaust to bolt to the 5.4 engine mounts aren’t different on the truck from what I read.

POR 15 is the best chassis paint. Knock the scale off and brush on with a foam cheapie. It comes out like glass. Use it a lot up north. Almost show finish guys. Keep on keepin on brotha.

Nice....You guys got me thinking. I have a 04 F150 regular cab 4x2 with the factory limited slip rear axle. It's Ford red and in good condition. I only picked it up cheap because rwd trucks don't sell up north..But I only wanted it for good weather towing my boat to the lake so I took it...Anyway,,sitting here imagining that GT500 engine and drivetrain in my 04. It would be a next Gen Lightning basically when done from those years..Talk about a sleeper truck!

Crown vics are body on frame setups youll have to pull the engine from the top, youll have to slide the engine forward to get it out or pull the body off the frame

It is a modular motor... just like the 4.6. it is a DIRECT bolt in (regarding the sub frame) it will need a different rear trans mount though. but you shouldn't have any clearance issues with the motor. 5.4 swaps in crownvics are fairly common. the gt500 motor is the same block as the trucks with different heads and internals
