Holy Shit!!! It was my amp settings the whole time. I CAN DO pinch harmonics!! This is best 3 and a half minute investment I've ever made.
Im here for it. Anything to make more pinchies!
Learned cemetary gates and cant stop doing it when i pick up a new guitar.
Learned the Hello solo by lionel ritchie just so i could pinch it.
I got my pinches down on an acoustic. Same basic principle.
Love it!
Great! Can you also post a vide on how to dial the amp/pedals correctly for pinch harmonics?
Really enjoying this channel!
Wow, this helped a lot!
My problem is that I can play pitch harmonics perfectly fine…it’s just I can’t switch between it and normal playing
That’s tough I’m working through that issue with tremolo picking right now.
My pinch harmonics DO NOT suck. I got that shit dialed in.
Awesome video as per usssuaaal!
Yo can you make a one stop shop video for all the dope metal sounds effects you can make on guitar?!
Or series of videos?!

Alright Ryan, I’m fairly new to guitar, going on three months of trying to teach myself. I’m having a hard time grasping onto putting riffs together. Everything I’m finding is talking about keys and scales, but I can’t seem to find anyone that can explain it correctly or have it make sense. Do you have any advice or videos going over this. Thanks for your videos they have been helping me with practicing
Just learn songs in the beginning. As you get more comfortable the other stuff will start to make sense. Just start practicing playing along with your favorite music and don’t put the thing down! If you can’t play your favorites then break it down into riffs, that’s what I had to do for Metallica but now I can play whole songs. 👍
Any specific tips for the 6th string (low E)? I can only get a harmonic on that by hitting the natural 3rd and bending it. No amount of thumb action seems to work
how do i do the harmonic without muting my strings?
Ive been playing on and off for 16 years and never have I figured out that that sound was called a pinch harmonic until today when I saw a comment on a RUclips video describing what those “squealies” were
I just can’t do it on thicker strings. I mean I can but it doesn’t squeeeeel
weird thing, I just ended a hiatus of not playing guitar for about 7-8 years and I can barely hit harmonics anywhere other than the 2nd and 3rd fret. Used to have no problem when I was younger. not sure how I lost it but I did.
So what exactly should the amp setting be? Just distortion, overdrive, etc?
Ryan, do you have a beginner's foundation program? I think that your many RUclips shorts would be within reach if I had that "certain something" guitar foundation to stand upon. Thank you.
Not at this time, but I REALLY appreciate the ask and desire for it, my friend!
why do i always get it right on guitar "A" and it's never super cool on guitar "B" with the same pickups and strings? pickup position within the scale?
What could be wrong with the amp settings?
2:33 whne i do that is sounds like the same note
Sorry -simULtaneously
I dont suck --really. -just play them using a (old) but slightly different technique --get the same loud squeal-!--using pick and index finger --SIMILTANEOUSLY!
*If you're relying on tubes for the majority of your clipping and tuned to E 440, pinch harmonics are going to sound like dog shit IDC if your amp setup cost you 10 grand.*
Semiconductors produce a ton of low odd order harmonics and potentially, a lot of low odd order and tons of high even order.
*When you hear a pinch harmonic with adequate semiconductor material involved in your gain and signal clipping, you get the raunch, the sleaze and the wicked.* If you're down tuned and reliant on valves you can get a fairly good sound out of them, but they're still shit compared to what you'll get through semiconductors used in solid-state and digital.
*I am a shred and sweep guy but also a college educated electrical engineer which means I know WTF I'm talking about lol.*
Valves are far from the holy grail of tone they're promoted as.
I was gonna say you suck at pinch harmonics as a joke but that's just rude lol this is a great vid I've tried explaining how to pinch to a few friends and my son they haven't gotten it down but I'm a crap teacher lol
No your not a bad teacher lol. Ive been playing for 8 years and am not self taught, one day i asked my teacher about it and he couldnt even help me get it down. It was when i discovered it by doing accidentally when it became clear to me. By realizing you just need to tap the string with your thumb very lightly (i did a really scuffed up method before actually learning how to do it correctly).
@EmileA-gs1kk 27 yrs for me lol but yeah I usally twist my hand and hit the sring with my thumb knuckle lol its always hard to explain but just like evh I'll show ppl and go just do that lmao
@@sexychugs69247 yeah same technique as what i do lol. I watched a couple of random yt videos about it by amazing teachers but until i learned for myself after trying for like a week I couldn’t do it. I still cant do it that well on an 8 string and should probably practice when i go home to my guitar
Btw, the way you explained it was perfect and thats about as good as you can do without them learning on their own. I learned by realizing that there are certain parts on the string that are easier to PH then others, and also (on my 8 string jackson) it works better on bridge pickup with distortion.
Also when i first tried it, i was pretty new to guitar (like playing for 3 years or something) and im still young and will get bigger faster and stronger with time.
@EmileA-gs1kk awesome it's best to self learn sounds you have a bunch! Same here tabs In guitar world and I'm a noodling kind of player lol I pinch and palm mute excessively so I'm trying to work on that. It seems like you and me would get along lol
@@sexychugs69247 lmao it seems so. If you want good palm muting practice and have a really good picking hand, I recommend Bleed by Meshuggah, or anything by Meshuggah, really.
what is that guitar?????!!!
Think it’s the Jackson Misha Mansoor special juggernaut (might be wrong idk)
That guitar is so sexy goddamn
