Runs to fridge, pulls out Kewpie mayo bottle, unscrews top, and screams. How have I been using this mayo for months without knowing it has a cute star tip! Thank you for enlightening me Emmy! lol
It's very popular to put fruit jam in any kind of sandwich in Korea. Koreans are obsessed with pairing sweet and salty flavors for a myriad of things. It's referred to as 단짠단짠 (dahn-jjahn-dahn-jjahn) which translates to sweet-salty-sweet-salty. As a Korean-American kid I always thought it was the oddest thing and it's not really my favorite thing but it's definitely grown on me.
Jedi KMA or my favorite! A monte Cristo which is beer battered fried bread (basically French toast) ham and turkey with cheese, then powdered sugared and you dip it in strawberry or grape jam or syrup. Bomb Savory sweet n salty gooey ness yum
Korean potato salad has an odd, sweet flavor. Emmy actually mislabeled this aspect. She shouldn’t have called it “potato egg salad” just “potato salad.” However, this label may have been due to her sources. Koreans have a lot of loan words from English but the meanings have shifted or are completely wrong. Add that there are a ton of self appointed Korean “English experts” that have spent decades teaching students incorrectly. So on that if you consume any Korean media and hear English, don’t assume it means what it should normally. Pay attention to context and use. Likewise when speaking to a Korean, feel free to ask qualifying questions about what they mean by a phrase or word. There is another issue where Koreans try to look clever in their use of English. I’ve seen far too many people using vocabulary way beyond their level so naturally incorrectly.
I think for that kinda sandwich, you should use milk bread. The kind you find in Asian bakeries like Paris Baguette or Asian supermarkets. The thick, chewy, fluffy texture of the bread goes nicely with the mayo based fillings. Regular 'ole Wonder Bread just won't do.
Emmy, may I suggest a recipe? Try "cuñapé", it's made of yucca starch and cheese, typical from the Bolivian low lands, specifically the Amazon area. Coffee and cuñapé is what we usually have at tea time.
Also in Paraguay we prepare probably the same thing, it is called "Chipa". The yucca we called like "mandioca". It's funny and curious how in our countries we have similar traditions and recipes :D
One of my cousins, may he rest in peace, loved sardines with jam! I always though it was a horrendous combination, but hey, perhaps he was onto something. We lost him in a war at 19 but I think he would have liked this sandwich. Perhaps I shall try to make it in his honor.
I have to say thank you for wearing that shirt. You bring much comfort to a lot of people. Myself included. Whenever I'm hurting physically or emotionally i watch your videos and it calms me. Much like Mr. Rogers you are a gem, a light of hope that people can be pure and good in such a dark world. Thank you Emmy. I hope you are immortalized in history just like him, and Bob Ross, and steve erwin. You are doing a good thing.
I used to get so frustrated because my California maki rolls didn't taste nearly as good as the ones we buy. Eventually I found out the ones I like are actually made with the fake crab and I was spending a fortune on real crab. I have heard that when higher end restaurants tried making "better" ones with real crab, they had to go back to the fake stuff because most the customers hated it.
Emmy, I love your shirt!! - Mr. Fred Rogers is one of my childhood idols and he actually studied Music at my college, we're all very proud to continue his legacy!
Very cool about Mr. Rodgers studying music at your college! I was looking at Emmy's shirt & wondering where I could buy one for myself. I grew up watching Mr. R he had a great effect on who I've become as an adult.
She's not giving that japanese mayo justice. IT IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN HELLMANS (and hellmans is my favorite regular mayo). It's literally the best mayo i've had in my life. It's like when you eat a swiss chocolate bar and realize hershey's is made of coca flavored plastic.
Preach dude, I'll never be able to eat regular mayo ever again. The Japanese mayo has a bit more acidity to it that I think is vital to any Mayo Experience™ lol
I'm beginning to think that I am the only one who doesn't feel this way :( Japanese mayo tastes so much more artificial to me. It's not bad, but I still think Hellmans is much better.
I'm a chef and to chop eggs fast we push eggs through cooling racks, if we want a coarse chop or fryer baskets for a fine chop. Never thought of the mesh from produce!
If you look at both ends of your plastic wrap (or foil or wax paper for that matter) box you should see a semicircular punch-in. Push them in. They go inside the paper roll and they will hold the roll in the box and keep it from coming out with the plastic wrap.
I love how calm and collected you are, but you also fun and you don't take yourself too seriously. Your videos are very therapeutic! One of my fave RUclipsrs 😊
My husband went to a tiny diner in the middle of nowhere Illinois and on their menu they had a hot dog with strawberry jelly. He said it was great! I took his word for it.
My grandmother used to make potato salad sandwiches all the time. She said when she grew up, potatoes were a staple (and often used as meat) in their garden, they needed to keep their chickens for the eggs, and oil from the larger animals was saved to cook with.
Hey Emmy! Actually in Korean, we say 잘 먹겠습니다 (Jal mukkehsseubneeda) before we eat our meals. It has a similar connotation with itadakimasu, in that it’s an expression along the lines of “we will eat well!” Or “thank you for the food!” Hope this helps :)
It's called seafood sensation and still available here in south Louisiana. It's the only one I ever get when I go to Subway. If they don't have it, I leave lol I love it that much. 😋😋😋
When I saw this, it reminded me of sandwichon. It's a sandwich that they eat in mexico, in the yucatan area. It also uses strawberry jam. You should look it up, it's nuts! :)
Just made this with my 6 year old. She cuts up the egg using a flat fork, I cut up the potatoes. But she mixed everything up since she likes everything espérate already. We saw your video just the other day and has been begging every since for us to make it. It came out just as beautiful and is a keeper. Lol as she is eating it she is repeating everything you said about the crab in it very matter of factly. This kid kills me. My 7 year old tasted it because he is respectful like that, but seeing how he doesn’t like condiments at all, he said no thanks, taste like mayo and immediately went to brush his teeth.
Emmy! You and your videos brighten my day so much! Any time im stressed or need to calm my anxiety before bed i watch your videos and i get so happy when i see a new upload from you! Your videos are just so cheery and soothing and i love learning something new from each one. Thank you!
Great video! This looked like a weird combo to me at first, but when I thought about it, the flavors are quite complementary. Coleslaw is usually a bit sweet, and people often add fruits like apples into coleslaw, so the strawberry jam isn't out of place.
I love how thoroughly you describe the foods you eat because it gives me a very good idea if I'll like it or not. So descriptive. Thank you..and love the video.
I do too. I soak chia seeds and add to any jam to add to crunchiness and cut on sugar. Often make fridge jam with just sauteed ripe fruit like pears and strawberries, stevia and chia.
I’ve never had this sandwich but a few comments about Korean sandwiches: 1. The bread tends to be extra glutinous 2. Koreans, unlike Japanese, do not remove the crusts 3. The Korean egg salads have an odd flavor, not inedible but weird 4. The potato is usually broken down further so that the egg salad has a smoother texture 5. Strawberry jam is the most common jam in Korea. The most common and affordable variety is similar to American grape jelly in that it’s packed with sugar and who knows what but cherished by kids everywhere. 6. Coleslaw accompanies many budget meals usually accompanied by slices of sweet pickled radish that has been dyed yellow and industrially produced, vinegar tasting kimchi.
Easiest way to dice boiled eggs - use egg slicer. Rotate egg 90° and slice again. They fall apart into little strips and bits and less mess. I agree freezer strawberry jam is best - no sense in making it any other way! :D The jam tastes like fresh strawberries that way.
For a strange combination that tastes like Christmas and the first day of spring and summer all at the same time. Take fresh strawberries, rinsed and dried. Using the greens to hold the strawberry, dip the strawberry in sour cream, then roll it in brown sugar. Be deliberate and liberal with both . The flavor combination is just amazing. Lights your mouth up at the same time make sure brain a little screwy as it doesn't taste either like strawberry sour cream or brown sugar. Just lovely
Bias usually refers to fabric. You either cut with the warp or weft (along the threads) or you cut on the bias (across the both sets of threads). It allows give and stretch in a non-stretch fabric. It’s important in the construction of various garments.
My family owned a restaurant and I was the chef, but while I was helping with the register, I all of a sudden hear everyone at in the kitchen freaking out and go inside to see my twin pouring blood from her hand, because she had been using a mandalen for vegetables. Without a guard. It was her first time using it and she still has the scar! Uuugh please go slowly and use a guard. If no guard, protective gloves.
Amos Lee yeeess. The first time my husband and I used one, we didn’t use the guard. He starts slicing some veggies and then he screams and the entire corner of one of his fingers is sliced off and i could literally see it in the peppers he was slicing. It didnt stop bleeding for days. (Not profusely obviously) He had to go to the ER to stop the blood. He has a scar now too. My husband and i both cringe whenever we see someone using a mandolin without a guard too. Very traumatizing.
My boyfriend used one and immediately after i reminded him how sharp it was and to be careful, he decided to see how fast he could slice the zucchini 😒 one tip of his finger in the bowl later.... and stitches and cauterizing and a month to heal..... we no longer use a mandolin for slicing lol 😅
Another trick I use to make egg salad real quick is using a baking rack! Not as messy as the mesh pouch and perfectly square dice. Also a trick for cutting up the crab sticks. Put them in your kitchen aid. I cut each stick into a few pieces then put in in the mixer. Shreds it quickly. Perfect for sushi bake, California rolls, or poke bowls!
I love all the elements of this sandwich, but would have never thought of combining them. Can't wait to try this! I love your channel Emmy! I'm in Ohio by the way.
I love your shirt. High five for appreciating Mr. Rodger! A mother's hero when she can't be present all the time. Put your child infront of Rodger's and no worry of junk programming. Yay Emmy!
@DigitalbumpinWhats fake about liking someones shirt? Also, I'm pretty sure nobody asked if it was Mr. Rogers, I don't know where you would assume someone didn't know.
Am I the only one that loves when Emmy goes run and do something off Camera and the camera focus on random things and she writes what it is under it, it's like what item will we find today 🤣❤️ love you Emmy !!!
I think everything about this sounds great. I love potato salad, egg salad, and salty+sweet. Reminds me a little of a thanksgiving sandwich that is crazy savory but also has cranberry sauce. Which is my favorite sandwich of all time.
Emmy, if you look at your box of plastic wrap, both ends of the box have little tabs. Poke them and you will have more control of the plastic wrap. You can do this with aluminum foil and parchment paper too. I love it!
Your hair is longer and your background looks a little different but watching your videos still make me cosy and nostalgic, and like I'm still that kid with no responsibilities obsessed with your videos. You're still our lovely precious Emmy even with longer hair.
I use the big holes on a box cheese grater to cut up my hard boiled eggs. Works like a charm. I also freeze my butter and use the same holes when making my biscuits, no pastry cutter or forks needed.
When using plastic wrap, try putting the box on the table and pulling out the sheet, using the table top for support. Lay it on the table and then gently press down on the cutting edge to separate. It can also be done directly over the sandwich or plate you are trying to protect. Doing it in the air just encourages it to tangle.
Aria right!! I was surprised she said that so casually... until I looked at the date this was uploaded and realized the news probably hadn’t broken yet lol
lolol sorn also busted this myth. she said that she never got any numbers and shes never heard of anybody getting numbers in their sandwiches. seungri is a known liar now anyways so 🤷♀️
@@gingahsnixx it doesn't go like that for everyone sis, if sorn didn't receive any in her sandwiches, that means that maybe the people who like her, or the people she likes talks to her in person. If she hasn't heard about, then maybe she hasn't met the people who actually experienced that. You never know what truly happens behind the scenes🤷♀
lol this video was posted around after the Jennie kai news which surfaced this sandwich back to attention so Emmy must of wanted a reason to talk about this other than a dating scandal lol
Not sure if anyone spoke to this... Emmy, the tabs onthe ends of the plastic wrap are made to pop in and hold the roll in place. Changed my plastic wrap world when I found this out! Lol same with foil, etc. Also, the instant pot makes AMAZING steamed potatoes. So yummy, even though your technique is quicker and yields a clean microwave. Can't wait for your freezer jam recipe ♡☆♡
Okay the sandwich is so much better than I thought it would be. I don't even really like cabbage that much. But it just adds a crunch. I think I might use less bread next time, but otherwise, totally works. I might try it with strawberry-vinegar next time.
I love Kanikama! They are delicious. I dip them in some cream cheese and some avocado and they are delicious. That's what we call crab sticks in Argentina. We also have smoked version. God knows what's in there though.
When I was in Korea, I had many issues when It came to their sandwiches because often times there was something sweet in them 😂😂😂 the pickles are sweet, or there’s jelly on sand which, and I definitely had to adjust. Or there’s like... sugar on the bread 😭
I have a HUGE sweet tooth, enough for 4 year old me to sneak into the kitchen to eat pinches of sugar when I was craving something sweet lol! I love Korean sandwiches except for the ones where there's like egg, ham and strawberry jam. The street food sandwiches are the best to me-- the sugar on the bread mixed with the ketchup to make a sweet sauce that harmonizes with the grilled egg.. 😩
ᄌᄉᄋ I specifically hate the egg ham and jam sandwiches 🤣. I did the same thing as a kid too with the sugar, and I love sweets. But I just can’t with the sugar bread. A lot of their chips are sweet too!
I have to say, I was having a gloomy day, and I watched this vid and felt much more optimistic. It's a yummy looking sandwich I want to try and make, for sure. But thank you for your sunny demeanor ^_^ it is contagious
Hey Emmy! :) I love how open you are about everything you eat even if the combinations or flavor are different from what you're used to, from bugs to alligator and cheeseburger jello. Also I think the phrase you're looking for before you eat is 잘 먹겠습니다 (jal meokkessumnida) which is equivalent to いただきます (itadakimasu).
So I made this to your recipe when you released the video and today I was craving it and didn't have plain imitation crab but I did have Kroger kickin' krab salad which is a slightly spicy imitation crab salad with jalapenos. Yeah it worked nicely.
@@KeishaPlnt 🙉🙈🙊YOU TAKE THAT BACK THATS A LIE OUT THE PIT OF HELL HOW DARE U😂😂😂😂🙊🙊🙊🙉🙉🙉🙉🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈 I'm suing for slander and defamation of weeds character 😂😏mary Jane I love u just the same😂😂
there's tabs on the sides of the plastic wrap box to push in to help keep the roll in place, some brands of boxes it works better than others. Aluminum foil too.
I figured that this would be in the category of peanut butter and mayo, something that sounds HORRENDOUS on paper but ends up being a “Hey, that ain’t half bad 🙃” in practice.
Try a ricer. Or... Cut the top off of a bottle of drinking water, leaving about a quarter of the bottle with it. Thread the net bag through the top, and you've a shield for the egg mess.
Who wants a strawberry picking and freezer jam making video? 🙋🏻♀️

I miss living in korea!!
My mom loves cracker+cheese+strawberry jam so i tried it and its so fricken good
I feel like I’m the only one who thinks this doesn’t sound bad..... Savory + sweet often works, like with cranberry sauce and poultry.
Cranberry sauce is SOOOO GOOD with poultry. So is fruit and cheese.

Savory sweet n salty gooey ness yum
the egg, crab stick and mayo mixed together sounds good lol
Even though I don't really like mayo...
I felt so bad when by friend brought one of these to my hotel room in Vietnam. I couldn't eat it, I got sick after 2 bites :'( I am a weak American.

Emmy, I love your Mr Rogers T-Shirt, I watched the movie over Christmas and was amazed by his life, such an inspiration.
you should've added the phone numbers
Where do they go?
@Ssu Baek thank you
When I need some cuteness in my day I just turn on to Emmy. You're so adorable, can still see the child in you.
GUESS WHO'S BACK ?
BACK AGAIN?
EMMY'S BACK!
TELL A FRIEND!
I love your shirt. High five for appreciating Mr. Rodger! A mother's hero when she can't be present all the time. Put your child infront of Rodger's and no worry of junk programming. Yay Emmy!
👍Won't you be my Neighbor! Love the shirt Emmy.
Timothy Hays lol it looks like” I like you lust the way you are “
miat789 it’s a picture of Mr. Rogers...
@DigitalbumpinWhats fake about liking someones shirt? Also, I'm pretty sure nobody asked if it was Mr. Rogers, I don't know where you would assume someone didn't know.
Omg that egg squeezer!! My face while watching you squeeze the eggs through was like this 😍😍😍 the whole time
Mr. Rogers! Thanks Emmy!
Am I the only one that loves when Emmy goes run and do something off Camera and the camera focus on random things and she writes what it is under it, it's like what item will we find today 🤣❤️ love you Emmy !!!
just imagine the few idols who’ve bitten right thru the paper and thought “i don’t remember cabbage being this tough, weird 🤨”
😭😭😭😭😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I think everything about this sounds great. I love potato salad, egg salad, and salty+sweet. Reminds me a little of a thanksgiving sandwich that is crazy savory but also has cranberry sauce. Which is my favorite sandwich of all time.
Your T-shirt! It made me emotional. He was such a wonderful and respectful person. ❤️
Emmy, if you look at your box of plastic wrap, both ends of the box have little tabs. Poke them and you will have more control of the plastic wrap. You can do this with aluminum foil and parchment paper too. I love it!
The sandwich is sold for $ 2 at a Korean convenience store, but the sandwich you made is better quality than that!
To be fair the Korean convenient stores are magical
Your hair is longer and your background looks a little different but watching your videos still make me cosy and nostalgic, and like I'm still that kid with no responsibilities obsessed with your videos.
You're still our lovely precious Emmy even with longer hair.
No crust and cut on the diagonal reminds me of kombini sandwiches
Yep. 🤗
Cool
All crust intact (most nutritious part of the bread), cut in an X pattern for easy-to-grab 2-bite morsels.
most e. asian sandwiches are served this way. it's not just japanese convenience stores.
@@angelbiscuits One notable exception being Vietnam.
I use the big holes on a box cheese grater to cut up my hard boiled eggs. Works like a charm. I also freeze my butter and use the same holes when making my biscuits, no pastry cutter or forks needed.
i’ve tried it and even though it sounds gross, it s actually delicious
I decided to give it a try and it’s DELICIOUS!!! I love Emmy!! My hubs and and I watch faithfully every week waiting for a video! We love her!!! ❤️
Snow crab is my favorite food but I love the fake crab salad that is usually found at buffet-style restaurants.
When using plastic wrap, try putting the box on the table and pulling out the sheet, using the table top for support. Lay it on the table and then gently press down on the cutting edge to separate. It can also be done directly over the sandwich or plate you are trying to protect. Doing it in the air just encourages it to tangle.
god hearing about seungri and his secret phone numbers now leaves such a sinister image in my mind
@@gingahsnixx and yes seungri is a liar, but people don't lie all the time.
lol this video was posted around after the Jennie kai news which surfaced this sandwich back to attention so Emmy must of wanted a reason to talk about this other than a dating scandal lol
I swear, Emmy is the kind of person everyone needs in their life ....like an awesome friend that is nice and so fun to be around with
I like you just the way you are - Mr. Rogers. 😎
Grilled egg and cheese sandwich with a bit of honey or jam in it is SO delicious. Been having it since I was a kid and still love it.
oh my god i did not expect you to do that... but then again.. i kinda did :D
My exact reaction lol!
2:52 when you said skeleton gloves I legit thought you meant the skin on your hands idk why
I’m now calling my hands that, thank you.
@@DeathBatBabe97 you're welcome lol
Okay the sandwich is so much better than I thought it would be.
I don't even really like cabbage that much. But it just adds a crunch.
I think I might use less bread next time, but otherwise, totally works.
I might try it with strawberry-vinegar next time.
I like your Mr. Rogers shirt! 👍
I made it and ate it when the recipe first came out. Everyone I make it for loves it. It's good.
I love Kanikama! They are delicious. I dip them in some cream cheese and some avocado and they are delicious. That's what we call crab sticks in Argentina. We also have smoked version. God knows what's in there though.
I wasn't sure about the combination but now, after watching your reaction, I'm hungry...as usual.
Damn! That sandwich looks sooooo soft! I could inhale 10 right now 😂🧡
Emmy I just love your videos and your kindness, you are so kind hearted and bring happiness to me every time I watch your videos!
@@Salmoninyourrice Yeah, I can't stand honey butter chips :( The taste of sweet honey with butter is rancid to me, but the rest of my family loves it!
I have to say, I was having a gloomy day, and I watched this vid and felt much more optimistic. It's a yummy looking sandwich I want to try and make, for sure. But thank you for your sunny demeanor ^_^ it is contagious
I LOVE THE FRED ROGERS SHIRT
I tried this recently! My sister , brother and nephew loved it! We were hesitant with the combination but ended up pleasantly surprised! ありがとう!
I wonder who decided to combine these ingredients in a sandwich. LOL
I suspect marijuana was involved.
I think they made it unpalatable enough so that they wouldn’t eat it because it was meant to just deliver a phone number lol
@@KeishaPlnt my thoughts exactly lol
@@KeishaPlnt 🙉🙈🙊YOU TAKE THAT BACK THATS A LIE OUT THE PIT OF HELL HOW DARE U😂😂😂😂🙊🙊🙊🙉🙉🙉🙉🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈 I'm suing for slander and defamation of weeds character 😂😏mary Jane I love u just the same😂😂
Someone pregnant? LOL I ate such weird crap when pregnant 😂😂my husband was like “I can’t watch” 😂😂
Strawberry freezer jam delicious. That was a staple when I was growing up. The sandwich looks delicious, great job, and much love.
I love imitation crab it use to eat it all the time it’s my favorite
there's tabs on the sides of the plastic wrap box to push in to help keep the roll in place, some brands of boxes it works better than others. Aluminum foil too.
I figured that this would be in the category of peanut butter and mayo, something that sounds HORRENDOUS on paper but ends up being a “Hey, that ain’t half bad 🙃” in practice.
Oh my word, I have to try this!!!
And once you try strawberry freezer jam, you can never go back to a cooked jelly!
Try a ricer. Or... Cut the top off of a bottle of drinking water, leaving about a quarter of the bottle with it. Thread the net bag through the top, and you've a shield for the egg mess.
Delicious!!! I tweaked the recipe a bit, using 2 pieces of wheat bread and raspberry jam. I LOVE this sandwich!!!!
