Hello there! For everyone saying this is cultural appropriation, I do apologize. Thank you for educating me in the comments about your culture and background with Henna. I will have you know my intention is never to offend, ridicule or degrade. As you can see in my excitement in the video, I appreciate, admire and love this. I did appreciate this comment by @TeeVeeBri "No culture does not belong in little boxes you can do anything to appreciate other culture and or try it out yourself, there is nothing wrong with that. Not many people get offended unless you believe in culture being black and white. There is a big grey area in culture and I think it is great that people are leaning and caring about more culture than their own."
+Mina's youtube HI Mina! I really do appreciate your approach and educating me on the matter. It is sad to see the symbolism behind certain parts of your cultures go to ruin. I can imagine how unsettling that is. I think this occurs for a lot of cultures take my own. People have stereotyped Colombians as being drug dealers and mafiosos. The rate and popularity behind Hispanic soap operas featuring a Colombian drugdealer and prostitutes has increased. It has changed the image for many people who perhaps now judge Colombia as being a country who is victimized by this act. But it isn't. I think the moral of these life occurrences is to not overanalyze and show hatred towards the people who categorize us. Once again I appreciate your manner of educating me on the matter. I have a swarm of girls on instagram who are harrassing my account and pictures due to this video, that on the other hand is a disturbing way to get your point across. If everyone had your kind of approach to the matter things would be different. Once again thank you and I am sorry.
I just wanted to say that as an American Indian Muslim I am fine with people not from the original cultures(India/MiddleEast) using henna or mehndi but it really irritates me when people refer to it as "tribal body paint/designs" because it's not, that is cultural appropriation. I honestly don't care who uses henna, as long as they are willing to understand/RESPECT the culture behind it. And yes I do understand that white henna isn't real henna but I still wanted to put this message out there to those who want to try out henna. Now continue your scrolling lol :)
AMEN!! Sick of going to school with girls who are in love with this new "cute body design trend", but make fun of women for wearing their ethnic garb, and don't know shit about the culture behind henna.
+Lottemarie actually henna originates in the middle eastern and african continent but was brought to the mughal dynasty which is not india and pakistan i believe
for all of the social justice warriors saying this is cultural appropriation, shut up. demonstrating a beautiful technique in a totally respectful manner isnt hurting or offending anyone.. jfc
I completely understand how hard it is to understand cultural appropriation and I'll admit that I used to be just like you. I didn't see a problem with people wearing henna or hijabs for fashion and I even ridiculed those who said it was a problem. then I actually experienced my own culture being appropriated and it makes one feel annoyed and angry, not only at the cultural appropriation but at all the people acting like it isn't a problem.
Glitter Z that's true, she is but she's only appreciating it's beauty and only wearing it because now it's in style rather than understanding it's cultural meaning which draws the line between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation
Lucy Lee how do you know that she doesn't know what it means? my best friend is muslim, and his grandmother, who is very old fashioned and respectful of culture always decorates me in henna patterns that i like, just for the beauty of it. it's part of the reason it's done, aesthetic.
you are supposed to pick off the henna after letting it dry for 1 hour +. Black, Brown, and White henna all are supposed to get picked off. so yea you're right lol.
Everything is cultural appropriation now a days. If you wear wigs and have black eyeliner on, technically you're appropriating Gyptian culture. Flower crowns, you're appropriating Mexican culture (even tho it originates from Vikings) Yes, by all means, if you're going to do something that's part of a different culture, like mehendi or wearing a bindi, then learn about its origins first and don't be ignorant. I can't really see henna as being culturally appropriated, because it was something that was always done at my school during the Indian celebrations like Diwali. But getting all offended because someone who isn't from that culture appreciates the beauty behind it. I can see it would be annoying if they knew nothing about it, but you have to know something about its origins to appreciate it properly. People just be jumping up saying 'you're appropriating culture', when they could know everything about what ever it is they're 'appropriating'. x_x
+m0bsceneBEE Same way I feel. I get how annoying it can be for someone to appropriate something that they have no idea about, but you can't ALWAYS be so quick to say "YOU'RE APPROPRIATING MY CULTURE!". Maybe they actually know the meaning behind it. You can't say that because she's white she must not know the meaning behind it. It's not always like that, but I do understand where some people are coming from.
KimKaiLovatic Yeah obvs theres going to be some people in the world who just wear something for fashion, like the whole boho head chain thing being readily available in every high street fashion store. I can understand people being upset, just hate that they jump to the conclusion that you must not know anything because you dont look the part. It'll put people off from ever learning about culture and just increases ignorance I feel. :/
Yes that is true, but look at it from different perspectives. When you admire the beauty of something and keep using it it becomes a trend. Some people view that as disrespectful to their culture, just turning something into a trend that has deep and important meanings.
I have a question. I have seen people that are not Indian having henna to for example their weddings. So is henna really just for Indian people but also for Arabic people?
This is just paint...henna is when it stains your skin like and the design stays there for a couple weeks almost like a temporary tattoo. There technically is no "white" henna, nor is there safe black henna. The only other alternative to henna is jagua which is richer and takes a more gel form.
+adriana Gomez that's offensive.First of all I am a Pakistani and it's a Pakistani tradition to do henna on our festivals.By your name I can tell that you are Spanish and that you know nothing about it.It doesn't stain your hand and it isn't harmful to your skin.its not like a temporary tattoo and the henna she did I agree is just body paint so you can comment on that but you're just making fun of henna. You don't know anything about it so don't say stuff about it thank you.
+Areej Mahmood I actually know a lot about henna, and this is nothing like it, I agree with the other girl, henna is full of chemicals and is bad for you, there are homemade versions that are safer but in order to stain your hand you need to have special ,materials
+tanayem zaman i think what she meant was that nowadays, people that aren't regular hennaers are impatient when it comes to waiting for the henna to stain and stuff so I think that's how black henna came along because it has all those chemicals that'll stain faster so you don't h ah very to wait as long. me personally I get my henna made and shipped to where I live from Pakistan by a dear friend of mine and I leave it on for over 6 hours and Im used to it because whenever it's Eid or Ramadan or my birthday I do henna but ya some people that aren't maybe used to the smell, the feel, and the wait aren't gonna sit for as long as I do or however long you may sit for.
Wearing henna itself not cultural appropriation. It's only cultural appropriation if you copy designs without understanding the meaning behind them, as most henna designs normally do have a significant meaning.
GUYS STOP I GET IT OKAY IM FROM UAE AND OUR CULTURE IS LIKE HENNA AND STUFF LIKE THEIR IS NO HENNA VID WITHOUT OOOO THIS IS NOT UR CULTURE STOP U 8 YEAR OLDS PLAESE
***** But henna isn't just reserved for a specific culture. Different cultures use it, and most of them for decorative purposes. In fact, loads of people from those cultures see nothing wrong with people wearing henna. I personally think people take this appropriation too far. If you respect what you are wearing and don't go overboard then there's nothing wrong with it.
+Lila Horne Henna is an indian tradition that is worn for hindu weddings and other occasions. It is a religious and a cultural thing. All of these other "cultures" that you speak of are composed of religions that were derived from hinduism, who all kept this traditon. For example, people in Pakistan and people in Bangledesh may wear henna, but that's only because they were once closely affiliated with india and hinduism. So, yes. This is cultural appropriation. She doesn't even know how to properly apply henna, nor does she know the meaning behind the designs that she puts on her skin.
Yes she did, she stated that for every 1 part of body paint you add 2 parts of adhesive cream. So if you add 1 cup of the body paint you need to add 2 cups of the adhesive cream, or 1 teaspoon of body paint then 2 parts of adhesive cream. As long as it is a 1 to 2 ratio
But... that's not how henna works. You're supposed to let it dry for a few hours and then take off all of the dried stuff from the top. Then the stain is all that's left on your hand...
That's only the regular, brown henna. The ingredients have a dye that stains your skin, white typically would too I assume but this is a DIY at home thing. If you buy some professional white henna it might
+Maddie Nicole because white henna is not a henna . Brown henna as you guys said, is made from a plant . It is meant to stain, white henna is just basically a glue that sits on top of your hand and is just there . No stain what so ever ^-^
In India...if we use the black Henna mahendi....for make it stay.....swip slightly a lemon on the henna.....and wash it..it will turn orangey and day by day it will turn darker as in brown shade(depends on the time you keep it even after it dries) ......try it out
catgodess71 well thats what he was he was saying. If white people cant wear it cause its cultural appropriation, no one else but Indians should wear it because its still cultural appropriation. People tend to forget that white people arent the only ones who appropriate culture.
Ava Reed For ACTUAL henna, yes. But this is a DIY version, so no... If you have the one with the henna plant in it, (so the real type,) it stains your skin after a few hours and then stays on for a couple weeks.
this is really cool and it looks amazing! Just wanted to say, usually you're supposed to be able to peel henna off and then it leaves a sort of dye on your body...but maybe thats just the way we do it over here
Watching and hearing people that aren't desi talking about how they love henna is so funny because I got teased as a kid for wearing henna to school XD
At least now henna is getting appreciated! I would be glad its more accepted and found to be beautiful instead of people reacting negatively towards it
Natalie this was my favorite busters video. I really thought it was good. For weddings to. You should do one of a dress. That may be a lot of work. But I would thumbs up it.
You're right. She just did it differently. It's not really the right way. For proper henna to last long you need to avoid water and cream as much as possible. Do some research on henna and you'll get it.
Traditional henna IS modern henna..."modern" henna is probably white people getting their hands on other peoples cultures and its not more cute Casey....(unless youre middle eastern north african south asian you cant wear henna go away)
+ItsYara i know henna is tradition shit for indians or whatever but just because someone is "white" doesnt mean they cant wear henna. henna isnt just for traditional use, it can be for style as well. and some people that are not of indian culture (or whichever culture made henna) just like the way henna looks. and, like most people, are trying out different things from different cultures. so please do not comment ignorant shit without learning something.
Wow so beautifully done. Hun you really have a steady hand and I feel your an expert in henna art. Some people take a lot of practice to reach your level 😊❤
I love how people talk about culture appropriations for henna but something that should be learned and looked at is that a person can learn about the art of henna and the culture behind it which should make a person of that culture proud it's making more people understand yes not all go and learn about it but some do. The point is to let people learn about your culture leave the door open don't persecute because they didn't grow up like you did I am sorry for those of you who were made fun of when you wore it to school it always fascinated me and I would ask questions but those kids are jerks and also it's BS to say that only one race can't wear it (someone said only white people can't in the comments below)
Actually I'm not white. It's like Christmas which people view as a Christian Holiday (It's actually pagan) but, some celebrate it whether they practice that religion or not, and don't call it X-mas. It's not ignorance because that shows that I don't know enough about a topic but, I can write you a 5 page long essay on cultural appropriations. (Maybe even more)
+Taylor Gladney there is a difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation if henna was cultural appreciation then it wouldn't offend people when people from other cultures do it
Exo Trash You can't do anything with offending someone not everyone is offended I honestly can't say whether a majority is or not but, these comments are definitely not the majority.
+Taylor Gladney if u look at the comments that talk about cultural appropriation and peoplr who have it in there culture responded with yes I am offended or something along those lines also henna has a religious connection too and many people who use it don't know about the history behind it or what it stands for or means
+Taylor Gladney actually Christmas is Christian it is just that there was a festival celebrated every year on dec. 25 that was pagan, and Christians didn't want to be part of it so they simply declared that day as Jesus's birthday because it was around that time. (I'm a Christian btw)
I know that it has been three years since you posted this but there's no time like the present so I'm just going to say it now.Natalie I love you and you are my inspiration❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Okay, I don't know if this is a thing that other cultures do, but the way we do it is basically take hair dye and mix it until it is a liquedy thingy and put INSIDE THE ZIPLOC. Then you cut the end, make design, let it dry, THEN SCTRACH EVERYTHING OFF. Then it's dyed into your hand for about 3 weeks.
Henna could be considered as a design, so while it might not be the traditional reddish brown henna that leaves a stain, it is still considered henna because of the design
the actual definition is the powdered leaves of a tropical shrub, used as a dye to color the hair and decorate the body. So the design is actually just a cultural pattern.
Finally... A GREAT Video on White Henna... I have been going through so many videos today... YOURS is the BEST... Thank YOU so Much for Sharing this... Now I can rest... ;)
SUUURRREEE it was sparkly and isn't henna supposed to stain your skin??? whats the point of this is just looks good for like 2 seconds then washes off : /
I am just scrolling through the comments and it actually pains me on what I am reading. Henna is very beautiful, and I agree that everybody must know the meaning behind henna and the design. But as long as you know what the meaning behind henna is and as long as you appreciate it, you are good to go. I feel the same way for every culture, including my own. No, it should not be mistaken for a simple beauty trend. And no, people should still not be criticized in mean ways (being called "white hoes", "white washed", etc.) And I understand how it feels to be mocked for your culture. Trust me. But I don't understand that we must criticize others (in horrible ways.) for not being the "right culture" and practicing henna. If they understand it, it should be alright. And people that actually do understand the beautiful and deep meaning about henna and its designs, they are appreciating culture, not otherwise.
And no one take this as hate. If someone disses another culture, saying that they are all -insert stereotype here-, I will go off on them. But this is sooo much for a simple video. I completely understand your situation. But it should be, to a certain extend, fine if another cultured person to practice henna.
Doesn't henna stain your skin a bit to make it last for like a week or so? So this isn't really henna because it probably comes all off once washed off.
+Christine Patricia Its actually waterproof and lasts up to a week depending on the thickness of the strokes. So the thinner the longer it will last. You can remove it by scrubbing really hard.
Hi Natalie! I love love ❤️ your channel, and with henna, I’ve been doing it my WHOLE life! You can also buy henna at some(not all) Indian stores. And once the henna dries on ur hands, your supposed to peel it off. I didn’t know if you did peel it off, cuz it didn’t look like u did. Just a heads up😋
Slay Daddy It's henna lol, It's supposed to do that to your hand....She did it wrong, she was supposed to scratch off henna to reveal the real tattoo beneath...
Jom Ali noun 1. the powdered leaves of a tropical shrub, used as a dye to color the hair and decorate the body. 2. the Old World shrub that produces henna, with small pink, red, or white flowers. it has to be from the plant.
How is this henna, though? I thought henna was henna powder and water you put on, let dry and scrape off. It stains your skin, that's the whole point of it. This doesn't stain your skin, does it?

+Ava Meyer Except, this isn't real henna. Just some paint and adhesive :^)
That's only the regular, brown henna. The ingredients have a dye that stains your skin, white typically would too I assume but this is a DIY at home thing. If you buy some professional white henna it might
I think that's just for brown henna. At least that's what I heard
+Girls3ever yeah me too, I never heard of white henna leaving a stain but some pictures make it look like they would
+Maddie Nicole because white henna is not a henna . Brown henna as you guys said, is made from a plant . It is meant to stain, white henna is just basically a glue that sits on top of your hand and is just there . No stain what so ever ^-^
I'm from India so Hana is my thing it is so fun and now I know how to make it
henna*
+Mahima Miah autocorrect🤓
+mollyjoyce mckenzie

Me: I’m 5 years late.... Everyone Else: I’m a year late 😭
Same
I’m 6yrs late
I am 6 years late ..
7 year late
im 6 years late
In India...if we use the black Henna mahendi....for make it stay.....swip slightly a lemon on the henna.....and wash it..it will turn orangey and day by day it will turn darker as in brown shade(depends on the time you keep it even after it dries) ......try it out
It wouldn't be called henna if you didn't put the plant henna In it..
Yeah it would
Just not real henna
off brand oreos people still call oreos
Also henna comes off and you are left with the stain the one she made has to stay on
What else would she call it😂
she looks so pretty in this video
OMG I love your enthusiasm and joy and I’m really glad that u show it in your videos! You just got a new sub!
I want to wear this but i dont want people telling me that i screwed up their culture or something :/
People are assholes who cares about them
+Soumaya Azeroual But any other race can?? What sense does that make???
+Sara Farnham it's not just white people who can't wear it; you shouldn't wear it if it isn't a part of your culture
Then dont - actual Indian
catgodess71 well thats what he was he was saying. If white people cant wear it cause its cultural appropriation, no one else but Indians should wear it because its still cultural appropriation. People tend to forget that white people arent the only ones who appropriate culture.
were are my 2 yrs late squd😋

you know you don't need to reply what you meant to say because at the end of your comment / reply there is 3 dots click them then click edit .
I don't think the edit update happened two months again.
Cool
honestly Natalie you should be a henna artist ur so good ive have a lot of henna done and trust me ur good
Aren't you supposed to peel it off and it leaves a mark???
Like if u agree
Ava Reed no
Ava Reed For ACTUAL henna, yes. But this is a DIY version, so no... If you have the one with the henna plant in it, (so the real type,) it stains your skin after a few hours and then stays on for a couple weeks.
Yeah
Ava Reed I don't know about peeling it off because I got a henna and it didn't get messed up
this is really cool and it looks amazing! Just wanted to say, usually you're supposed to be able to peel henna off and then it leaves a sort of dye on your body...but maybe thats just the way we do it over here
It's body paint, not actual henna.
Yeah i know i meant like if she was trying to make actual henna that those are just a few characteristics of henna :)
I just wait till it comes off by itself
Watching and hearing people that aren't desi talking about how they love henna is so funny because I got teased as a kid for wearing henna to school XD
At least now henna is getting appreciated! I would be glad its more accepted and found to be beautiful instead of people reacting negatively towards it
Luna Ledlow Yes true! I am glad :)
Lol, henna isn't just a desi thing! It's Arab too mostly!
Really that's terrible I would have thought it looked cool
+Alice Wilkinson bitter? she's setting an example of culture appropriation at its finest from a desi visual
Natalie this was my favorite busters video. I really thought it was good. For weddings to. You should do one of a dress. That may be a lot of work. But I would thumbs up it.
I was getting school lunch and we had chicken bog (on of my faves)I was the next in line and when it was my turn she ran out.:(
Eryn Auman Why?
Annabella Nguyen lots of ppl
Eryn Auman ha
Eryn Auman
i thought the purpose of henna was to leave behind ink on your skin not to have it caked on your hand??? so confused
Same XD
You're right. She just did it differently. It's not really the right way. For proper henna to last long you need to avoid water and cream as much as possible. Do some research on henna and you'll get it.
Traditional henna is a little like the more the merrier, it's used for special events but more modern henna is more simple and cute
I'm One Year And 11 Months Late.... 😂
Also Happy New Year 🎉
im a year and 11 days late... u meant days
LittleSkye Forever you're not alone lol
Im two years and 1 month late lol
yeah ikr time goes by so freakin fast
This is super cool
No its not...
Wills Jennifer
It's an opinion. Don't be rude.
wills jennifer it is stop hating
actually, its really not. it isn't even henna.
#Cat Girl# it is but it doesn't use henna leaves
first the henna tubes cost $5 two minutes later they're $3!? that dicount thooo!! haha
Ikr she said "$5 maybe $2" then she says "$3"
I know that it has been three years since you posted this but there's no time like the present so I'm just going to say it now.Natalie I love you and you are my inspiration❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
omg soooo beautiful I would never be able to do that!
Then it's dyed into your hand for about 3 weeks.
wait. Wait. WAIT. YOU WERE AT GENBEAUTYNYC?!?!??@:OFRUNTB; I KNEW YOU LOOKED FAMILIAR!

I'm 2 years late I guess
Not quite but ok
Fry wow xD
هلووووووووووووووو
هلووووووووووووو
Fry me too
what....there's no such thing as white henna..... henna is a leaf that stains in red-ish brown colors, not paint.
LOL its not a mud its a paste made from ground up leafs from a plant found in the Middle east and India
+lavander lights nah it's made of a plant
+lavander lights no henna is a plant. its leaves are dried & powdered and then mixed with water to make a paste

SUUURRREEE it was sparkly and isn't henna supposed to stain your skin??? whats the point of this is just looks good for like 2 seconds then washes off : /
+Fiona Meow coolness.. and fun.... and just for entertainment...
Novi Rose Ik whatever I'm just saying dont call it henna if its not kinda clickbaity
Henna stains your skin which in turns last up to 1-3 week (depends on how strong it is)
It's because this is just trendy is all.
It dosent wash of once it is dry it stay from2/3weeks btw u should try it out befor u coment about it !,
I am just scrolling through the comments and it actually pains me on what I am reading.
*NATALIE KEEP GOING AT YOUR BEAUTY BUSTING THING OR WHATEVER JUST KEEP ON GOING*

When I got a a henna done by a professional we had to peel it off this way that you did looks so much easier
+Natalies Outlet Thanks for the quick response!
I might have to try it now. I had henna done by someone at a fair years ago and I loved the effect.
Oh my gosh it looks so beautiful!!!!!! 💕💕💕

Olivia Dech you wait for it to come off. it could stay on for up to a week I've heard
ride5sos s Oh thanks, That makes a lot more sense.
Olivia Dech ya just wait for it it's annoying if u mess up
kayano kaede Yea DX
Olivia Dech you can get it off my friend did it and she got is off
I like the normal henna cause the white one looks like liquid corrector
Just a heads up😋
Ur actually supposed to peel off hennas when they are done so it leaves this ink dye stuff and it dyes ur hand that color
Ella Biggs ya
Ella Biggs That's what was saying to myself
Ik that's what I was saying to myself and it's because she didn't do that it probably didn't last that long
Sry I'm late
Ella Renee Biggs Not with white Henna
does it stain it though? (Like your hand?)
Slay Daddy It's henna lol, It's supposed to do that to your hand....She did it wrong, she was supposed to scratch off henna to reveal the real tattoo beneath...
no its not. white henna is not really henna. it's just body pain. the actual bown henna is the one that stains
It's not henna lol, white 'henna' doesn't stain the skin
Slay Daddy cause it's supposed to
it does, but I think it's temporary
Im 2 years late for watching this video.....OOPSSSS!
OMG THAT HENNA is amazing
It's not henna if it didn't come from a henna plant. A better title would be "white semi permanent tattoo"
Because of the pattern it's also called henna
Jom Ali noun
1.
the powdered leaves of a tropical shrub, used as a dye to color the hair and decorate the body.
2.
the Old World shrub that produces henna, with small pink, red, or white flowers.
it has to be from the plant.
I thought so too but when i was in Malaysia everyone referred to it as white henna anyways
Semi permanent? In other words it's temporary?
Derpy Tacozz
temporary is just a small bit shorter than semi permanent.
in my language I call it #MHENDI .
Kitty Kat it's mendhi
sorry I am half Aurstalian half Pakistani
Its spelt mendhi worldwide :)
no its not its actually henna because arabs made it first and they put that name and then india got the idea and started saying mendhi
I am Pakistani
But aren't you supposed to wash it off then the pattern will stay on your hand for a week ?
That's what we usually do with traditional henna .
It turned out so good and beautiful😍🤤
It's 2017 I'm fashionably late😋
Gaming with Kari Karina dead😂
Gaming with Kari Karina yas girl
How is this henna, though? I thought henna was henna powder and water you put on, let dry and scrape off. It stains your skin, that's the whole point of it. This doesn't stain your skin, does it?
+DeviliciousNails i was thinking that she would scrape it off in the end. And no, Well yes I does stain your skin... But its simple to wash off.
Me too. But it doesn't stain your skin, it doesn't have henna in it, it's just a kind of body paint.
Tip for the bumps: do them a bit thinner and longer it will look better 💛💛💛 love you
How do you take it off
Hunter Shaw it come off on its own...it can stay on for weeks
Good job stealing thread bangers pin o meter
OMG YASSSSSSS CORRINE AND ROB 4 LIFEE
She said "hack-o-meter" not "pin-o-meter"
+julijaana but still
+Johnathan Polk then that's not stealing
Thanks for stealing an animal from the Bible.. gosh... jk but still, leave her alone.
With real henna you have to wash it of am I right?
Yeah, it starts to crust and then you wash the crust of and it will leave that print on your hand
X
Anna Hettema Krieger with real henna it dries up and you peel it off and it can stain for up to a week
You can, but it would go faster. Scraping it off is longer lasting, but it smells.
The longer u leave it to dry the longer it stays depending on what kind u use and ur right she was supposed to wash it
omg natalie that's sooo beautiful xx
that's a beautiful henna I know this cause I am from India😃
Abicshaa and Ayshan sometimes my school have events and sometimes have Hanna I sometimes do is really fun

+Sofi.okay💦💕 ohh is that when i did normal henna it peels off to just have the tint of the design, that why i asked
henna supposed to be peeled tho
+Alexandra Colon yeah proper henna you peel put this isn't henna
umm...if you peel it off you can get a silver color is know cause that is my tradition i am a pro at this stuff
Actually nobody cares if ur pro😂😂😂
