As well as the gap between children
For example Pregnancies within 3 years of each other will cause in the second child to become malnourished.

1 India appears reporting in larger numbers. This is important when being compared to countries who are not providing/counting health issues.
2 India is reporting on many different issues when compared to other countries in the region.
I am mostly encouraged by the report because India tends to address and fix a problem when the light of day is shined on it.

As a Manipuri I used to wonder how my friends, say, gujaratis, survived only on chawal, rotis, sweet dals, dokhla, phapra and all that. North Indians, too much ghee and oil. I think NE and southern foods are healthy. It's not just the amount of protein but it also depends on how the protein is cooked. Manipuries cook it with very less oil, and sometimes with no oil if the protein (non-veg) itself produces oil while being cooked. So, now you know why such a small state like Manipur produces so many sportspersons despite being one of the poorest state, just above Bihar, UP, and handful of other states in the poverty index. Inversely this could be a reason why India produces so less international standard sport champions despite her huge population.

Kabhi notice kiye ho.. why Switzerland is rich while India is poor..even tho India ki economy $2.7 trillion ki hai.. it is because of our population...when a country has large population..the purchase power of the country might be high but the GDP per capita will be always lower..and yes china is a fair comparison in terms of population ..but guess the GDP of china... It's $14 trillion..India se 7x .. jab GDP hi itne zada ho.. toh obviously GDP per capita will be more than india..but even then If u compare china with Japan who has a GDP of roughly $5 trillion even than japan ki per capita $40k ki hai.. aur china ki kitne ki hai pata hai? Sirf $8k .. ye dekh rahe ho..14 trillion hone ke bavzood...china ki per capita Japan se 5x Kam hai..
What I'm trying to say here is.. it is very difficult to irradiate poverty in a country where population is very large.. aur agar India GDP per capita ko agar improve karna bhi chahe toh usko atleast 18-20 trillion economy hona padega..tabhi GDP per capita average global standards tak a paayege..

Food habits are established in every region based on centuries of practice. Rice suits South, but not North India. Rotis are digested better in hot northern climate but not in South. But, in the name of globalisation and nationalism, we have mimicked food habits of other regions and countries. They are not digested properly, or do not suit the climatic conditions in which they are consumed. Ideally, one should consume food grown in their own region. Second if people having enough resources and don’t eat right type of food no gov can change stats.
Non veg is not answer to hunger but obesity and more health issue will be there. Please compare USA and west people. Nutrients is one part which has lot to do with cooking and digesting. B12 is not easily absorbed by most from pills and same is with iron. Rather green veggies give better results. The ESPRE will not stop MNC from selling & advertising junk food to under developed countries, also will not stop & advertising/selling alcohol or tobacco products.
West is not all healthy either and they spend lot for better health but outcome is very poor.

You can't deny the fact that 90% Indians don't fill their required protein requirements. 200 gm of meat is the daily requirements and when 70% is vegetarian don't expect to hit this mark. If you say that non animal proteins substitute it, then you are wrong. Nobody can eat that much milk/lentils and these sources don't have all the amino acids. So meat is going to solve the problem. Look at NE, they have much lower level of malnutrition and anemia. Because vegetarianism isn't prevalent there.

Pakistanis don’t pay any taxes that is why the institutions are not working well. The Indian economy has grown however the India people unfortunately did not. I wish you all well.

It is necessary to flood the Indian market with different multi-vitamin, zinc, iron, and Omega 3 tablets/liquids. In USA/Europe, one can buy these tablets even in stationery stores without any prescription from a doctor. USA/Europe actually flooded their market with these tablets. India has to do the same. Allow any shop to sell these tablets, even a stationary shop inside an interior village will be able to sell these tablets. Indian govt can subsidize the production of these tablets, such that the cost of these tablets remain much lower and anybody can buy these tablets. It is also necessary to prepare a fixed chart of healthcare for pregnant mothers. This chart will describe what type of food, or minimum vitamin tablets, they will consume during the pregnancy period. Every TV channel will show that to aware the common people. This is one of the first steps to tackling these issues. Generally, most Indians are vegetarian, which actually causes these problems.

What they say about undernourishment is true. As a child I used to think that Kerala people are short compared to the people of the North - say UP, Bihar, Bengal and certainly Punjab. But during my recent visits to Kerala I noticed that the same Northern folks are far far shorter than the Kerala youths (there is plenty of subjects for comparison as the state has a huge migrant population) which mirrors the social index of several states in India including Kerala. The same is true for the US (where I live), The first generation male Indians probably had an average height of 5.5 ft while the second and in particular the third generation have a height of 5.10. Good nutrition makes a lot of difference. The same is true for most Asian immigrants to the US (I admit US has a lot of child poverty and habit of eating bad food, but there is adequate amounts of food for everyone). The big problem is per-capita income (GDP is just a bragging right). If your per capita income is low, you can't afford enough food. Indians spent much of their income on food.

On the Global Hunger Index in year 2022:
    Iran is at 29
    Ukrain is at 36
    Egypt : 57
    Srilanka : 64
    Bangladesh : 84
    Pakistan : 99
This list indeed raises the question over the credibility and veracity of this institution which takes samples from different countries and then places them in the ranking over hunger.
We all know what is Srilank upto? They don't have enough money to even survive for a week.
Iranians have literally been languishing for any basic amenities due to poverty and sanctions and embargo by Europeans,Americans and rest of the world. Getting a square meal is such a great challenge there.
Look at Ukrain's ratin for year 2022: it is pegged at 36? It is so ludicruous.People are not even getting a bottle of water to drink let alone food and Ukrain which has been reeling under attack since Feb is hinged at 36.
This whole study and rating is a sham. This doesn't hold any credibility and credence.Few people sitting in cozy office is manipulating and trying to befool the whole world with such nonsensical propaganda :)...Yeah! many people are under the poverty line and are also malnourished which must be improved and we need to work upon through concerted endeavours of all citizens and government but running a propaganda and setting wrong and false notion about any nation or people is not worthy of any attention :)

Malnutrition in children/adults can be quite expected if you look at the per capita income available for a person per day: Best estimates accepted by IMF is GDP per person is $2000 a year. This means GDP/per person/per day = Rs. 400. Of this the money available for private consumption is 70% = Rs. 280 per person per day. To have three meals a day in a very ordinary mess/cafe is Rs. 300 in a small town in India. If he/she spends all the money to have three meals a day (1800 calories) what will he/she do for shelter, clothing, transportation, medical services etc.?? So he/she eats far less every day. This is the real problem. An average Indian citizen does not have enough income to have a balanced meal. This is what is reflected in the Malnutrition Data. Why we are all very vexed with the data, which just tells the whole story of our Indian economy? Our politicians & policy makers must focus on CONTROLLING the Population AND improving the Productivity of ALL adult citizens! How? That's the KEY to all our problems!

Shekhar ji, I don't usually post comments but let me point out that your recommendation to eat more meat is no longer factually accurate based on today's nutritional science. It is a dated concept promoted by government health agencies backed by corporations that runs counter to the state of the art in nutritional science. Here is the US, there is a whole movement that is just upending society's views towards meat and animal products. Lots of peer reviewed papers are available but this is best explained by checking out the book "The China Study" as well as Netflix documentaries "Forks over Knives", "The Game Changers" and "What the Health". These will not just transform your definition of healthy eating but also personally get you off your prescription medications in just a few weeks. Today's epidemics of diabetes, heart disease and auto-immune diseases are 100% man made.

From www.vrg.org/nutrition/iron.php : "you would have to eat more than 1700 calories of sirloin steak to get the same amount of iron as found in 100 calories of spinach.
Another reason for the satisfactory iron status of vegans is that vegan diets are high in vitamin C. Vitamin C acts to markedly increase absorption of non-heme iron. Adding a vitamin C source to a meal increases non-heme iron absorption up to six-fold which makes the absorption of non-heme iron as good or better than that of heme iron". Look at tables on the web page for more data.
