Hi Suzanne! So comforting and so good for you! That soup sounds amazing, thank you for the recipe. The radishes are beautiful, I've never seen watermelon radishes before. Your farm produces such beautiful veggies, your husband is an amazing grower. You both really know what you're doing. It's so great that your family can benefit from your produce business by eating fresh, clean vegetables at the harvest. So inspiring!
Awww, thank you so much Roberta 🙏 The watermelon radishes are so beautiful. We haven’t harvested them yet, as you can let them get quite big. Ours were still very small. Such a novelty item to grow!
Everything looks so tasty! The watermelon radishes looked beautiful and lived up to their name! The apple crisp and ice cream stole the show for me! Another wonderful video! Thank you !
I have tried the German rye bread. Aldi has it as a specialty item in the fall. We have it toasted with slices of cheese on it. Thanks for the recipes! -- Barbara
Hi Barbara! This was my first time buying it, and I found it very nice. I think it would be wonderful with a strong cheese. I might have to buy it again. 😊
I love your content And recipes and definitely making this soup I’m like you not so keen on smooth soups Love texture more hearty fulfilling as it’s getting cooler here in the UK 🇬🇧 Thank you You are so calming LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT INSTALMENT X
Aww, thank you so much 😊 Yes, soups are warm and comforting in the cooler months. Our nights are getting colder, but it’s still hot during the day here in Canada.
Ive had cold borscht soup, will try this one. Also I will make the apple crisp, just got some apples from local orchard near me. Watching from So California. Thanks for the video
Hi Suzanne, I enjoyed your video today. Lovely recipes. I have never tried that bread but have seen it in stores like Cost Plus World Market here in California. Being half german, my grandparents loved dark breads. Me not so much. Tks. Karla in Cali.
Hello Suzanne I have never made this type of soup. I am not a fan of beet, but did look good. The bright colors of the cabbage, carrots and beets makes it look very tempting. Adding all the other ingredients made it look fantastic vegetable soup. The dark bread looked so tasty with it. What was your final thoughts on the soup? I have one question? I saw you place your apple crisp on your side rest of your table. I always crinch about someone coming through the door and bang....there goes the crisp. Think an apple crisp will be on our plates very soon. Enjoy the peace, calmness and pattern of your days are truly comforting. Thank you for sharing. Joan
Hi Joan ❤️ The soup is very delicious. It doesn’t taste like beets, the dill is a significant flavour in this soup. It also has a bit of tangles from the lemon or vinegar. It has a flavour all its own! So good. Highly recommend it. There are many variations of this recipe online, but they all have the main ingredients that I use. The apple crisp is a MUST!! Especially this time of year. Definitely give it a try. Best topped with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream. So sorry for scaring you with putting it on the edge near the door 😂 I believe it was safe!
Love to see Canadian content. Where are you located? I am in Nova Scotia. Our Gabled Home is a German woman who makes a seeded German sourdough bread that looks similar to what you used. Perhaps you could look her channel up to reproduce that delicious looking bread.
Love the video, but just as a point of reference Borscht doesn't generally have meat (my Ukrainian grandmother used sometimes a chicken broth, but never actual meat) ALso using bacon grease would kind of negate the "vegetarian" right?
I’ve never used meat, I’ve just seen a lot of recipes vs online using meat. I prefer not too. 😊 Yes, I just use the bacon grease because I have it to use. But if someone is strictly vegetarian, I listed in the recipe to use your preferred oil.
If you like to make your own bread, buy yourself Rye flour and follow a recipe for german rye bread. Not difficult, just different, most cheaper and homy option.
I definitely plan too. I have been keeping my sourdough starter alive all summer, but during our busy season it is hard to find the time. I’ve just starting to get some extra time to bake 😀

Thank you so much!!! ❤️❤️❤️
You had me at bacon....
Awesome!! 😂
The bread is dense and hearty. We love it with liverwurst and thinly sliced onion. But it is delicious with Limburger cheese. ❤
Yes, it was very dense. That sounds amazing!
Thanks for these suggestions. I happen to enjoy pumpernickel.
