she sings in very other episode in season 3 and a lot in season 1 so musical episodes show the other cast voices we don't hear often that's my guess
I don't think it was censoring. With context to show most characters sang with maybe just one or two people in frame. So it would seem weird visually because it looks off when no one is one screen yet you hear singing. That's why shots where there is an ensemble, there's harmonies. I think it makes more sense like that.

My point wasn’t really that she should’ve sang this because she as Veronica, it’s more of the case that if you cast the shows singer as someone with a solo song it kind of makes it seem like they’d get the solo song and it kinda got my hopes up a bit but turns out it was even worse than the Carrie episode (probably just because I’m a heathers fan girl)
Jahmir Miller well you do have a point there, although I would like to point out that the Carrie episode showed rehearsals to the musical Riverdale High was performing, whereas Heathers songs are adapted to the storyline (for example Seventeen) and that's why there are so many changes.
All I'm saying is - of course they could've done it way better, but this episode was made for Heathers to fit in Riverdale, not for Riverdale to fit in Heathers

Trilby Dude also as far as the insults go you can’t say those words that many times in one episode on a teen sourced television show. It’s against guidelines that why had to cut a lot of things, so it wouldn’t get taken off air
Yeah it just sounds like someone forgot to add the backing track like with all the insults and literally any other plot development that happens in the song and it's not cute sis
"It's not an actual film production of the heathers musical" and that is exactly why there are so many changes.This episode of Riverdale wasn't supposed to fit the Heathers storyline. Actually, it's the exact opposite thing. The songs and situations they were played in were altered so the songs would fit Riverdale's storyline. Some of those songs refer to Riverdale action in a 'long-haul' (couldn't find a better word here, sorry) way, like for example does Seventeen and Seventeen (reprise). It's the characters' way of saying they miss the old times, when there was none of that crap that is going on in Riverdale now. It doesn't matter (repeat: it. doesn't. matter.) that there is no Martha in Seventeen (reprise) because Seventeen (reprise)'s role in this episode is not progressing the Heathers storyline, but Riverdale's storyline.

Gabrielle Elizabeth most singers don’t have an accent when they sing.. look at Adele, One Direction, just for an example. Beyond that, his voice is just BAD. He’s not a good singer idk what to say, and he’s so auto tuned he sounds like a robot
Gabrielle Elizabeth also singing in an accent doesn’t change your vocal ability or tonal quality, it wouldn’t affect how well you sing

Heathers fan here to say, I think this episode failed. It failed hard. IF we are all being honest, this episode was only to pander to the heather's fandom, due to how alike the genre and basisc of the shows are (murder, highschool drama, etc.). When first listening, I had so much confusion. "Why are there multiple people singing Veronica's parts?" "Are they even following the plot?"
"Why are they using the licensed highschool lyrics when the show is supposed to be dark?" "Why are they cutting out the entire heathers explaination segment and jump straight to 'and you know you know you knooooooow' part?" Honestly, I probably would love this if I was a fan of Riverdale, but this episode isn't for current fans, this episode is to draw in new ones, and they honestly failed at that, because now I, and I can guess a lot of other people due to the reactions I'm seeing, have no interest in looking father into this show.
Also, can we talk about that shit autotune when it goes "Heather...Heather... and Heather...."
They did have the explanation of the Heathers in the show in between the sections.

Hi, huge heathers AND riverdale fan here. I completely disagree: They used the songs to apply to riverdale scenes and conflicts, since the two shows are obv not the exactly same. Beautiful- Kevin sang because he's singing as the director of the musical and the lyrics apply to his perception of the students and school, Candy Store- the three heathers vs other female students transfers over seamlessly, Seventeen- Jug and betty are the crime solvers of the show and miss being fun-loving seventeen yr olds, Lifeboat- veronica's parents just separated she feels like shes drowning. They used the songs from the Heathers musical but with a Riverdale interpretation. It was beautiful and fitting for this show, and if you haven't seen the entire series you wouldn't understand. And if your not a fan of musicals or heathers than people seem to have a negative reception to it as well. I for one will stand up for it, good job riverdale!

This episode was created to get Heather's fans into Riverdale, and while I can clearly see how these songs are integrated perfectly into the episode, it doesn't change the fact that they made Heather's renditions that failed to be accepted by the Heather's fandom, making this episode a flop. As I stated, I would probably love the episode if I was a riverdale fan. But I'm not. And that's where the problems lies. This episode only entertained current riverdale and Heather's fans, and failed to do what it was supposed to do.

Question: are there any covers or edits to "Beautiful" that remove the narration at the beginning like this does, and retain some or all of the song's structure (e.g. all characters in the original song still have singing parts and aren't cut down from eight minutes to four), and have the bonus of not making the Heathers fanbase scream in agony?
I need this for a silly personal project. The fact that "Beautiful"'s beginning narration immediately dates the song as being set in the 1980s puts a damper on the idea. Unless there's something like what I've described out there, I'm stuck with this.

As much as I love 'Heathers' both the 1989 movie and the musical, I feel last season when they did 'Carrie' it was had more impact. From a theatrical standpoint this episode is good it's just so far off from the tone of the rest of the season. This was the better episode from every standpoint other than the connection to the rest of the season in terms of the tone of the season. The 'Carrie' episode said, "Sure, it's a musical episode. Let's like deadass kill someone." Kept with the tone of the season and putting future musicals on notice that someone might die. So Petition for Sweeney Todd next year so we can keep it in the horror family. I need Cole as Sweeney though. Jug is such a perfect character choice for him. Also, Cole and Lili's part of this song is the most precious thing I've ever heard in my life that doesn't involve Brendon Urie.
