    Strong seems better, I don't care for the social media aspect of Hevy. It's bad enough we have twitter and facebook, tiktok, etc. Don't need it in a workout tracking app as well.

    • @AJFaithFitness
      @AJFaithFitness  3 года назад +3

      Some like incorporating a social media component to their fitness world while some don't. I get it, if the social media becomes a distraction and motivates you to do things that risk injury then it should be dropped, so you can focus on what is important, and that is your fitness and not what someone else thinks about your journey. For some however they need that motivation and accountability that a community of like minded fitness individuals bring. As for the apps themselves for tracking workouts and numbers, well they both have their strengths for sure, and you cannot go wrong with either one. Thanks for stopping by and for your comment! 👊🏻👊🏻

      @@AJFaithFitness Is there an option to turn off the social media features completely in Hevy though? I'm still torn between Stong and Hevy. And do you think it's worth it to pay a one time price to own it rather than paying a subscription fee?

    • @AJFaithFitness
      @AJFaithFitness  3 года назад +3

      Unfortunately there is currently no way of turning off the social media component in Hevy. As for paying a one time fee vs the annual fee for the app... A one time fee for Hevy is currently 104.99 CAD, while the monthly one is 31.99 CAD. You would have to remain with this app for 3.2 years before you started to see a payoff from your investment. Now I would recommend subscribe to the app for a few months, see how you like it. If it's for you, go annually. If you can see yourself committing to this app for life, then go lifetime. As for Strong, its 139.99 CAD or 39.99 CAD per year. That one will take 3.5 years before you start getting payback from this large upfront investment. I personally would stick to an annual subscription, and at 31.99 or 39.99 per year, it's an affordable investment which also allows you flexibility to switch a few years down the line to something else. Again all depends on whether or not you are the type of person that can remain with the same app for 3 - 5 years at a time. Hope that helps.

    In an effort to replace buggy and cluttered Jefit I tried both of these I actually tried all three at the same time and it looks like I'm settling with Hevy. It seems to have more exercises than Strong and the ability to create my own exercise like I had to do during my workout it's valuable. Hevy also seems like it's being developed very heavily from what it seems so it's got great potential and the community thing is a nice touch ( not critical for me)

    • @AJFaithFitness
      @AJFaithFitness  3 года назад +2

      Thank you for your comment! I used Jefit as well for a few years, and well I think your description is accurate. I am glad that the reviews have helped you with your decision. Hevy is indeed being developed heavily, and they are run by developers who care. If you have a question, or a feature suggestion they are always willing to hear you out. Also Hevy does have a far more extensive library than Strong. Strong is a solid app as well, however the development of Strong has appeared stagnant for me over the past few years, while Hevy is pushing hard with new features, and when they implement new features they aren't riddled with bugs as it appears with other apps. I think you will enjoy using this app Martin! 👊🏻👊🏻

    • @martincortes702
      @martincortes702 3 года назад +1

      @@AJFaithFitness one thing that Jefit does well it's having a huge library of workout plans I know Hevy has a few but nowhere even close I wish these apps would you let you import workout routines

    • @AJFaithFitness
      @AJFaithFitness  3 года назад +3

      One option Hevy does have, is it allows you to import anybody's routine within the app. So if you see a routine you like from a fellow user, you can add it to your own with one click. I agree Jefit has a massive library of workout routines, however one issue with that library is anyone can add to it. At one point JeFit would award points to those who uploaded a routine. This in turn created a lot junk routines to be added, just for the sake of getting points. If you can sift through that clutter, then I agree, there are some gems within that library. One day Hevy may just add to their own library, and hopefully there are fail safes in place to ensure that the database contains only quality routines rather than quantity or duplicates.

    Been using Hevy for a month , thanks for showing how to setup supersets for me . Guess I’m going to use the tutorial. One thing I noticed you didn’t cover was on Hevy when you finish the workout it shows you that graph that shows the split between legs , arms etc does strong have that feature? It’s been really useful with getting my full body split tweaked just right

    • @AJFaithFitness
      @AJFaithFitness  2 года назад +4

      Hi there Aaron. Strong does not have that feature unfortunately, and their muscle split is far less detailed than Hevy's is. I am not sure if you are an iOS user, however Gymaholic's body heat map is fantastic. It also has a built in muscle regeneration feature which provides you with recovery estimates. StrengthLog (iOS & Android) also has such a feature where it will show you a physical avatar with all muscles targeted on a workout and routine basis. If you are looking for a free experience though, then Hevy is probably your better bet for Gymaholic's free version in my opinion is pretty much useless. I do have reviews on both apps on my channel if you are interested. With that said, Hevy may just improve upon the feature as well as add features in the future. Between Gymaholic, Strong, Hevy & StrengthLog, Hevy and StrengthLog are the two apps which have their developers active within their communities, and are putting out new features frequently. Hope this helps, and feel free to reach out with any additional questions!! Happy and safe lifting!

      Going off of memory, both apps were very similar in the way it showed progression. Not sure I would say one was better than the other. I do believe comparing the free only versions though, that you get 3 months of charts with Hevy while Strong has nothing... Again going off of memory, and perhaps something has changed. Hevy also has a Web version which you can pull up in your web browser, that may also be useful while viewing your progress, while you are not limited to your phone. If I had to choose between the two, I would honestly go with Hevy, but if you hate social media, then perhaps Strong may be a better bet.

      Hey there Bart. In Strong you can sort exercises by Barbell, Dumbbell, Machine / Other, Weighted Bodyweight, Assisted Bodyweight, Reps Only, Cardio and Duration. This is in additional to sorting by muscle group if you so choose. In Hevy you can view exercises by All Equipment, None, Machine, Kettlebell, Barbell, Dumbbell, Resistance Band, Suspension Band, and Other. You can also specify muscle group as well, however in greater detail than Strong. In Strong you will have Back as a muscle group, as for Hevy will have Lats, Upper Back, Lower Back, Traps. I hope this answers your question. Both apps have a free version, and you should be able to see this level of detail for yourself by downloading the app, however the free version of Strong is quite stripped down compared to the free version of Hevy. I've been using Strong because it has an option to input RPE (which I use to input RIR) for every single set. I input RPE every time alongside reps and weight because otherwise I'd be tempted to push to failure every time. Does Hevy also have the option to input RPE for each set?

      I have not used Jefit in years, but that used to be my go to app for a few years. Unfortunately there was a period of time where the app on iOS was really buggy after a server upgrade, and then they had their data breach which leaked some of their users personal info... I personally have not went back, but perhaps these concerns have been addressed? Sounds like a solid feature of JeFit's though. Strong and Hevy have a more manual approach, while Ai tools like Fitbod or Alpha Progression basically handles all progression for the user and tells you what to do. They are expensive though, but might be worth checking out? Both also have trials.

      I have been on both sides of that fence personally. At some times I liked having the social media component, and at others not so much. Where I find value is creating a network of friends who share the same passion for fitness as you do, and that you can lean on for motivation or to answer questions along the way. Simply liking posts I am not so sure if that is valuable, Fitness is about growing as a person, and not about just showing off. So depending on how you use social media, this may be a good feature or a negative one and there is no right or wrong answer here.

      Hey there. Unfortunately lots of these workout loggers are a weight lifting app first, and focus on cardio as an after thought. Most apps I have seen in this genre allows you to log time for cardio, and that is about it really. If you are using a fitness tracker, such as a Fitbit or an Apple Watch, I find the stock apps on these devices do a far better job of tracking cardio workouts (time, intervals, mapped gps, etc). I heard apps like Strava and Map my run, Nike run club, may also do what you are looking for, although I have no experience using either of these apps.

    Don't like how these (and pretty much all other apps) have too many standard over customizable features (exercises, data input). This means these apps can track our workouts, and sell that data to third parties. I want an app where I can name, number and organize my own exercises, with a built in stopwatch... Basically, that's all we need.
    We don't need a full list of existing apps, and carb trackers, and all these other fancy features. I really don't see the added benefit. Thanks for the video though! God bless

    • @AJFaithFitness
      @AJFaithFitness  11 месяцев назад +1

      Some people prefer a pen and paper and that works for them. Some like to track every detail of their fitness journey in a sophisticated app. Some app developers sell your data some do not. This is the world we live in now, and the key is to find what works for you and what you are comfortable with, and it can be as simple or as complicated as one chooses. If the tool in question helps you in achieving your fitness goals, great. If it does not, then I agree, the tool needs to change in order to cater to the user.

      You are able to create and sort your workouts into folder on the iOS version of the app. Are you on Android? I hear that the feature sets between both Strong apps are not identical. In this case, I think Hevy puts forward the same app for both platforms, but not 100%. Alpha Progression strengths comes from their Ai and workouts/routines generator (in my opinion), and its simplicity is also a nice touch. I do wish it had an Apple Watch variant though, as I prefer to run workouts from the wrist. Out of the 3, Alpha Progression is the most expensive for sure.

      Hey Alejo! I would have to say Hevy has the better free version out of the two. It’s one of the most complete I have seen. Aside for a limitation of total saved routines (4 at a time), limit on custom exercises you can create, and the graph history is only 3 months I think, other than that the app is nearly fully functional. Strong on the other hand I feel is less functional and hide some of their key features behind a paywall including all chart data, body measurements tracking, limited workout templates and a few more features are locked away. Hevy also has a web version in beta while strong does not. I have also noticed Hevy is more involved in the community and roll out new features and updates regularly. To get honest I don’t remember the last time strong released a new feature. Feels like over a year…. Hevy has changed much within a year. Give it a shot I am sure you won’t be disappointed 👊🏻👊🏻

Still, I like the app better than Lyfta, Liftosaur, Strengthlog, or wger when it comes to setting up routines or the segmentation of the app itself. Fast N Fitness can be similarly intuitively setup but lacks the visual tuning to make it a better experience. But Hevy losing data after three months if you don't pay and not having PRs... I'm still looking for an alternative app that has a good selection of excersices, that lets me setup a practical amount of routines and doesn't lose history (ideally allowing to export/import data to keep it all as a offline backup) - that's either free or even part of FOSS.

      Just to confirm, the data is not lost after 3 months, you just cannot see it (I think is how it works). So if you were to pay, the data would be visible at any point in time. However yes, it is off putting. My primary reason for not using free versions of premium apps is that developpers do a great job of reminding you what you are missing out on, and at the end you feel compelled to pay. Or you get an interface littered in adds, which is another pet peeve of mine. This applies to any subscription based app that offers both a free and premium tier.

      @@AJFaithFitness Thanks for the head up. I thought I had replied to your previous reply but apparently I didn't. Anyways, I get the sentiment and also pay for certain apps in order to not have to see the apps if I use them a lot - but I don't see how a price in the range they (and others) are asking for can be justified generally but also with the budget I have. Yes there's a one time payment option as well but I had bad luck in the past where a dev simply shut down the app and then published it again with first a slightly different name and eventually the original name again, just so they could enforce a new payment method. Of course not all devs are the same but I've learnt my lesson and with how the app works it's a more or less one time development that's created to have a constant flow of income for them but I'm not paying that much for a piece of software that doesn't something I have to have to out of necessity. Sure, it's not as ridiculously much as the RP hypertrophy app but still, make it 20 bucks once and you still earn enough with a good product that keeps selling. Make money via numer of sales not subscriptions. Also, setup a "tip" option and there will be enough users still chipping some extra every now and then if they're happy.
      But I know, that's just my point of view. Not to mention there's free foss apps that do the same even though in a much less polished way, which is the only reason why I'm looking for an alternative. (As I'm already mentioning it, it's called "Fast N Fitness", exercises have to be set up manually, naturally programs as well and it could use a huge UI overhaul. But there are no limitations regarding anything I think and, well, it's foss software.)

      @@AJFaithFitness I stand corrected, Hevy DOES show personal records - it's just not obvious where. Found them by accident while looking for other exercises: I you go into one exercise directly, not just the routine but tapping into one exercise and scroll down a bit then there's "Personal Records" for "Heaviest Weight", "Best 1RM", "Best Set Volume" and "Best Session Volume". Not sure how far back these personal bests go with how the free version of the app only shows data of the past three months though (and I only have it for a few weeks - I think it would take a very long time to figure out). But at least some PR are actually there.
      I was hoping for PRs per Muscle rather than exercise but I guess that for most people makes more sense than what I wanted. And if once does an extremely isolated exercise for just one muscle I guess that's a way to have a PR per muscle.

      @AJFaithFitness ya, I just think strong looks a bit bland and I don't like the diagrams, it doesn't show you what muscles each exercise works

      That is a nice feature in Hevy! Hevy has put in a lot more work to releasing new features, while Strong has been far slower to release updates. With that said, Strong is apparently working on a new version (6.0), and I am curious what that will look like.

    I switched from Strong to Hevy just before the new year. Was a great 50% deal on. Cost me £11.99 for the year. (Yes, I'm from the UK). They also have the ability to group workouts together now into programmes. I sent an email to Hevy today asking for them to develop warm up sets too.

      I thought Hevy had warmup sets already. If you tap on the set type you should be able to change it to warm up or drop sets. I also thought they had a built in warmup calculator, but I may be wrong. Let me know what Hevy responds with, as I am now curious 🙂
