Hevy Workout Tracker | How Do I Find & Add Ready-Made Workouts?
So SL doesn't calculate and re-adjust the load for you? It's just a tracker and you have to figure out your progression?
It has been a while since I had a thorough look at the app, and I know they have released new features and redesign of the UI since. At the time you had to manage your own progression. Not sure if that has changed...
@@AJFaithFitness Thanks for the reply 🙏
Two questions, if you don't mind: (1) how to compare Hevy and Gymaholic each other? Do you think one of the two is quite superior to the other one? (2) that Excel file seems sick! Did you buy it? Or did you develop it yourself? Is it possible to buy it?
1) that is a tough call, as both are awesome apps and have some solid strengths. If you are in the apple ecosystem and do not wish to have a social media component to your workout app, then Gymaholic. If you want to access your data on any device and on the web, or want that social media component then Hevy. All in all they are both excellent loggers and you cannot go wrong with either one. I believe both have a free trial, so try them both. 2) Thanks, I had made the excel file myself back in the day. There was no code involved, I designed all the cards with formatting and would then copy/paste and manually manipulate the data. Very basic stuff really and would not charge anything for it (even if I could locate the original file). Unfortunately I don't think I have that one anymore as I have used apps instead for years now.
Most concise summery. Not a clickbait. Thanks!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!
This video helped clear up some confusion I had with the program. Thanks a million!
Glad it helped!
Hey AJ , is it comfortable using it as a Hyperextension? I bought a cheap hyperextension equipment that is uncomfortable/crammed near the male genitalia ha ha. I’m thinking of getting this one cause I see one used for a good price on FB marketplace
I think it should be okay for what your describe, lol. I come to learn that there is nothing comfortable when it comes to doing Hyperextensions...
@@AJFaithFitness thanks AJ! I bought it and I love it!! Found it for $80 on FB marketplace so I couldn’t pass it up
That is a sweet deal! Glad it's working out for you!
Se eu criar um treino personalizado.. qual o formato de video que o app aceita? e que não fica como imagem estática. Que nem os treinos já salvos no aplicativo?
I am not sure. When I used the app, it did not support videos at that time. Might want to ask the dev team, I am sure they can help.
Great review, I’m just 1 week away to finish my routine so I’m looking for new workouts and this looks super good. Thanks!
Happy to help!!
Revisiting this for 2024. Best concise summary of the program i have seen. Thank you!
That is awesome! Glad this was helpful!
Hi thanks for posting, you said the goal was to hit a new PR every workout but how can you measure that whenever the weights differ on the last plus set week to week?
Wendler sees PR's as more than just weight. Amount of reps with a given weight on your last set for example is a PR, best 1RM is a PR, weight on the bar is a PR, total volume can be a PR. Some workouts you wont hit a PR and that is fine. The goal is to aim for a PR so that we push ourselves to grow. Hope that helps 🙂
Do u have a review for a standing pull up rack?
I have a video on my squat rack (which has the pullup bar), but it may not go into the level of detail you are after. Here is the link ruclips.net/video/JQNxvmfNYgk/видео.html
Appreciate the honest analysis. Very helpful
Glad I could help! 🙂
I also have 2 bars, one neutral and one angled. I prefer the angled grips for pressing and the neutral grips for hammer curls / triceps extensions 😉
Thanks for your feedback. Glad I am not the only one 😉
Great video with a lot of information. Thank you
You're welcome! Glad you found the video awesome!
5x5 is great for beginners. The app is great too. As you become more advanced heavy squats 3x per week is too much. Eventually I switched to Jim Wendlers 5-3-1
100%!
looking for free trx apps ?
I am sure there are many... Not sure on the quality. Do you have any recommendations?
@@AJFaithFitness i mean i need apps. i have no idea :)
I seen quite a few TRX exercises in Gymaholic (only available for iOS, iPadOS, WatchOS, tvOS), however if you are looking for a TRX specific app, other than the one provided by TRX themselves, I have not tried any.
And when do I change up my current routine? After 6, 8 weeks? Do I have to change it up entirely? What exactly do I change? I've read online you have to change your routine after a few weeks, but wouldnt that mess up the current progress?
There is so much misinformation online about fitness, and it can be quite daunting at times. You do not have to change up your routine that often. You can split your training into blocks, 8 weeks is fine. After 8 weeks take a deload week, make a few minor tweaks if you like and hit another 8 week block. As long you are making progress and are getting results there is no need to change anything. When changing routines every couple weeks, it becomes difficult to see if you are making progress on your lifts (since they are never the same ones). Being able to add weight to the bar is an important metric, especially when you are starting. The only way to do that is by repeating the same lifts over and over again. Bench, Squat, Deadlift, and Overhead Press should be staples in any routine. With all that said, depends on your goals 😉
Can you add an exercise?
You sure can. You can also add an image for that exercise 🙂
Found it, thanks!
You're welcome!
Which ai fitness app to you recommend or like the best? Alpha progression, bodbot, fitbod, fitness ai, etc?
I have only tried Alpha Progression and Fitbod with official Ai features. I preferred the experience with Alpha Progression, as the programming the app generated felt more structured and I could look weeks ahead and know what was coming up. Fitbod would generate a random workout every time (or so it seemed for me at the time I tried it). Depending on your approach to training, you may prefer one over the other. I personally preferred AP, and the fact I could not add custom exercises to Fitbod was a deal breaker for me. This may have all changed since then as I have not looked at Fitbod in over two years.
@@AJFaithFitness thank you
You're welcome!
What happens if i dont pay monthly plan
You get 3 workouts to start with, once those are done you have to pay. If you stop paying (I believe) you still have access to your data and past workouts, but cannot log any new ones. That is how I understood it from looking at their subscription terms.
Hevy has been updated to include the features you mentioned are missing. They also added the option to not share your profile and workout data with the community. I am not affiliated with Hevy in any way. I'm just a fan and avid user.
That is awesome. Thanks for the update!
I use the pro version and it’s invaluable for tracking progressive overload: the key to hypertrophy. When you feel you can lift more, you tap the blue thing next to your set and it increases the weight or the reps to set your new standard. Plus it’s science based and promoted by the excellent YT channel House of Hypertrophy.
It's definitely a great app! Especially helpful for beginners when they are searching for some guidance and how to proceed in their workouts. Getting started can be intimidating, however apps such as AP takes a lot of that away by laying out the programming and progression for you. Thank you for your comment AJ!
@@AJFaithFitness Do you know other apps with progression recommendations which are for free?
I made the switch from RP’s hypertrophy web based app to Alpha Progression app. At a 1/3 of the price of RP I really like it so far!
Its actually unfortunate how this video was made 3 years ago when I started using Strong and the iOS app looks better here than my android app does today.
3 years ago... boy time flies. I agree with you, it is unfortunate that both apps do not appear to offer the same feature set.
This bar can replace dumbbells?
Depends on which exercises you wish to replace, but not really. You cannot do any single arm isolation work with this bar, and the range of motion can be cut short on exercises like a hammer curl, the bar ends up making contact with you, while dumbbells would be unobstructed and continue to your sides. You can do many exercises with this bar instead of with dumbbells, but is it a full dumbbell replacement, no.
is there a beta of myoadapt?
Honestly, I am not sure.
Just watched the video, I was considering buying as my second bench. My first one moves when im on it with no weight(im 130lbs)
This one does not move for me. With that said I suppose it would also depend on what sort of flooring you are using the bench?
Hevy is more my style, looks cleaner and has more basic exercises
It's a solid choice and a great app!
@AJFaithFitness ya, I just think strong looks a bit bland and I don't like the diagrams, it doesn't show you what muscles each exercise works
That is a nice feature in Hevy! Hevy has put in a lot more work to releasing new features, while Strong has been far slower to release updates. With that said, Strong is apparently working on a new version (6.0), and I am curious what that will look like.
Is there an app like this but for body weight/primal flow/calisthenics?
I have not come across any personally (as its not something I have actively researched), but I am sure there are many options for that out there.
if it would allow me to log a set without going to the next exercise
im using ios bitbod when in an exercise mode it allows me to log set on some exercises , on others it says log and go to next exercise. i have to do this for every set i do. how can i fix this anoying hicup
I have not used this app in a few years, so not sure how to fix this or what the issue is exactly. May want to search their support forums?
Thanks for the more streamlined, clear explanation.
You are welcome! Glad it was helpful!
Hi thanks for the video. My friend can sell me this bench he wants $150.00 for it, should I go for it? I have a small bachelor. Also I am 6'4" (with shoes on), would this bench fit me for my height?
I think it would fit you as it has many levels of adjustability. I am nearly 6 foot, and I never used it on the top setting. For $150 (as long its in good condition) seems to be a good deal. Depends what your training goals are. It's good for back extensions and ab work, and unfortunately that is where the usefulness of this bench ends. However to find a bench which allows you to do back extensions, with this small of a footprint is hard to find. So if that is an exercise that you really want to do often, then its definitely worth the price at $150. Hope that helps!
Thanks for posting much appreciated!
Glad it was helpful!
Hey, cool review and greetings from germany. I also think Hevy and Strong are two very viable options. Sadly for Strong, its not possible to group workouts as a plan. Anyway, imo Alpha Progression offers a bit more features than Hevy, then again its also quiet expensive.
You are able to create and sort your workouts into folder on the iOS version of the app. Are you on Android? I hear that the feature sets between both Strong apps are not identical. In this case, I think Hevy puts forward the same app for both platforms, but not 100%. Alpha Progression strengths comes from their Ai and workouts/routines generator (in my opinion), and its simplicity is also a nice touch. I do wish it had an Apple Watch variant though, as I prefer to run workouts from the wrist. Out of the 3, Alpha Progression is the most expensive for sure.
@@AJFaithFitness wow, I didnt know the versions between android and iOS vary. Yes I reviewed android. Thank you for your response!
I found it surprising as well, I am on iOS. When I get questions about features I clearly have access to, it got me thinking and this is when I found out the apps were different. Unfortunately there are many apps like this which offer different app experiences, for different devices, and some don't sync between different ecosystems either. I know Fitbod used to be like that (maybe still is). If you switch from Android to iOS with Fitbod, the data was not transferable. Strong however, as I understand it is transferable and will sync through the cloud (at least I think so, but I could be wrong as I do not use Android).
I switched from Strong to Hevy just before the new year. Was a great 50% deal on. Cost me £11.99 for the year. (Yes, I'm from the UK). They also have the ability to group workouts together now into programmes. I sent an email to Hevy today asking for them to develop warm up sets too.
I thought Hevy had warmup sets already. If you tap on the set type you should be able to change it to warm up or drop sets. I also thought they had a built in warmup calculator, but I may be wrong. Let me know what Hevy responds with, as I am now curious 🙂
Hevy does not show a history of personal bests with the dates? That seems like a huge oversight...
I thought this was present in the exercise history, however if you are looking for a screen which shows just your PR's with dates, then yeah, I think in Hevy some digging is required.
@@AJFaithFitness I dug but didn't find any PRs. Still, I like the app better than Lyfta, Liftosaur, Strengthlog, or wger when it comes to setting up routines or the segmentation of the app itself. Fast N Fitness can be similarly intuitively setup but lacks the visual tuning to make it a better experience. But Hevy losing data after three months if you don't pay and not having PRs... I'm still looking for an alternative app that has a good selection of excersices, that lets me setup a practical amount of routines and doesn't lose history (ideally allowing to export/import data to keep it all as a offline backup) - that's either free or even part of FOSS.
Just to confirm, the data is not lost after 3 months, you just cannot see it (I think is how it works). So if you were to pay, the data would be visible at any point in time. However yes, it is off putting. My primary reason for not using free versions of premium apps is that developpers do a great job of reminding you what you are missing out on, and at the end you feel compelled to pay. Or you get an interface littered in adds, which is another pet peeve of mine. This applies to any subscription based app that offers both a free and premium tier.
@@AJFaithFitness Thanks for the head up. I thought I had replied to your previous reply but apparently I didn't. Anyways, I get the sentiment and also pay for certain apps in order to not have to see the apps if I use them a lot - but I don't see how a price in the range they (and others) are asking for can be justified generally but also with the budget I have. Yes there's a one time payment option as well but I had bad luck in the past where a dev simply shut down the app and then published it again with first a slightly different name and eventually the original name again, just so they could enforce a new payment method. Of course not all devs are the same but I've learnt my lesson and with how the app works it's a more or less one time development that's created to have a constant flow of income for them but I'm not paying that much for a piece of software that doesn't something I have to have to out of necessity. Sure, it's not as ridiculously much as the RP hypertrophy app but still, make it 20 bucks once and you still earn enough with a good product that keeps selling. Make money via numer of sales not subscriptions. Also, setup a "tip" option and there will be enough users still chipping some extra every now and then if they're happy. But I know, that's just my point of view. Not to mention there's free foss apps that do the same even though in a much less polished way, which is the only reason why I'm looking for an alternative. (As I'm already mentioning it, it's called "Fast N Fitness", exercises have to be set up manually, naturally programs as well and it could use a huge UI overhaul. But there are no limitations regarding anything I think and, well, it's foss software.)
@@AJFaithFitness I stand corrected, Hevy DOES show personal records - it's just not obvious where. Found them by accident while looking for other exercises: I you go into one exercise directly, not just the routine but tapping into one exercise and scroll down a bit then there's "Personal Records" for "Heaviest Weight", "Best 1RM", "Best Set Volume" and "Best Session Volume". Not sure how far back these personal bests go with how the free version of the app only shows data of the past three months though (and I only have it for a few weeks - I think it would take a very long time to figure out). But at least some PR are actually there. I was hoping for PRs per Muscle rather than exercise but I guess that for most people makes more sense than what I wanted. And if once does an extremely isolated exercise for just one muscle I guess that's a way to have a PR per muscle.
How do you find the durability? Would they last 5 years? The plastic causes any issues? Thanks!
I have had them for nearly that long, and they are still as good as the day I got them. I have never dropped them (as they do not recommend this), so if you take care of them they should last.
So for the next week on the same routine do I just start it again
That would be correct as long you add some method of progressive overload. You want to be making progress every week in either more reps, or more weights (as long as your body is ready for that change).
Thanks for posting.
You're welcome
Hey, if using a free app I would delete a custom routine, will my records also be deleted?
Only the workout routine itself would be deleted. Your workout and exercise history should remain intact.
@@AJFaithFitness clear, thanks
No problem!
Every time I do what you say for the scanner. It tells me I have to pay for the app. So do I have to pay for it to use the scanner?
Good question. I have been a paying subscriber for years, so I never came across that issue. However if it is prompting you to pay, then it must be a premium feature locked behind the paywall...
Really useful overview.
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome review! I’m buying this tonight based off of your review and the TRX ad on Facebook that piqued my interest. Thanks again for posting this 👊🏻

Thank you for you're indepth video.I'm looking to purchase this bench. So,you're video has helped me tremendously. Thanks again!
Glad I could help James! Stay awesome!
Whats the pro/premium price difference?
Strong is $8 CAD more then Hevy per year, and the one time payment price is $20 more I think for Strong.
Thanks bro for reviewing theses iOS bodybuilding apps. I've found much of the same as well. There use to be real real good pay once aps but Apple disabled them ALL leaving only these subscription apps which I've found gymaholic is the best over all. I like Strong but I can't get the auto timer to advance too the next set or exercise
There are a few free ones, but as is the deal with free is they at times lack support and are buggy. Gymahollic is for sure one of the best, and one of the most affordable options out there.
I actually bench more with a higher bench height
That is interesting. I would assume you are tall and still use leg drive?
I see sit ups and back hyperextension....how about side...can you do the obliques on this
I cannot see why you couldn't.
Great video! Is the bench able to stand vertically for storage?
Not really. It is not very well designed for that and the bench may end up getting damaged or someone getting hurt if you tried.
Excellent
Glad you liked! 🙂
