R.I.P Neil Peart! I can´t say I was the biggest Rush fan, but they have definitely had a huge impact on lots of bands that I am huge fans of. And also I love this song:) What do you wanna hear next? Let me know in the comments!
Do Happy Birthday
How about one of these?
“Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon” by Neil Diamond
“Where Is My Mind” by Pixies
"Blister in the Sun" by The Violent Femmes
Break on through by the doors
Alle meine Entchen
do a nirvana lake of fire metal cover
I've always admired when you've done tributes for fallen musicians, you don't end the videos with the spiel to buy your music. Much respect to you for doing that. Excellent cover also.
I 100% agree! Much respect for that move on his part.
Yes. Very stand up on Leo's part
Ain't no wonder tho.. his own talents carry the song as if it were his own. he don't need no hype.
ruclips.net/video/6im4RxYiDI0/видео.html
Every time someone metal covers Rush, it always reminds me how f'in rocking Rush really was. Leo is the best but you almost can't out-metal Rush.
But he does a very decent job! RUSH is my favourite band ever.
It is hard to out-metal Rush, agreed. I suspect he'd agree too, but I'm not a mind reader. Like this cover, way to go Leo!
There’s a Netflix documentary on Rush- they are THE bomb!
Fuck Rush!!! Metal rules ALL THE WAY 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
I never met Sawyer, but Tom Yoder was 1 hell of a guy. He had me in back of his pickup, turned into a lot and did 3 circles on 2 wheels. Greatest carpet layer ever. RIP
I'm a huge RUSH fan. I gotta say it took some balls to cover this song. You did a great job. Thank you for paying tribute to this band and honouring the memory of Mr. Peart.
Something else, I love the outros.
However, your choice not to do them at the end of the tribute videos is pure class, and makes me respect you even more.
Runeseer totally agree!
Totally!! My thoughts exactly!
Agreed 100%
indeed
HERE HERE! :D
Leo is so underrated it's a frickin metal travesty.
STFU he's amazing at what he does
@Redneckusa94 Reading is fundamental. This guy is saying that Leo doesn’t get the recognition or appreciation he deserves. In other words he’s saying Leo is amazing, but few recognize it.
I agree wholeheartedly! It's easy to get a laugh at his unique sense of humor, but then I realize how incredibly talented he is as a musician. There may be better guitarists, drummers, bassists, or whatever, but there are few who can pull off every single part of Tom Sawyer and make it look easy.
Thomas Campbell On a fretless bass, no less. Some people were cheating when talent was handed out, and then even rub it in by working so damn hard at it ;)
What do you mean? he has almost 4 million subs that's 3 million more than almost 98% of every band known. Pink Floyd only has 2.23 million and they are stupid famous. I disagree with that travesty statement.
I'm currently struggling with depression, and this put a genuine smile on my face, so thank you Leo!
savage_ eyes life is worth living ... hope you find your way through it all ... best wishes !
Speak with God. He will listen and speak back to you.
@@2Timone7 please don't do that. He's got a real problem. Talking to himself won't do anything.
Depression can be horrible I know, i struggle everyday with it. But every morning i get my spotify going with metal songs i love from my past and present and I just walk.( around 5km)
I promise if you just try that it will help. It makes the day for for me!
I'm working on it, I have a therapist now so we'll see how that goes. I just can't seem to get over the abuse my step dad put my family through, no matter how hard I try. I just end up believing every horrible thing he ever said or did... 😔
Thanks for doing what you do Leo. R.I.P. Neil "The Professor" Peart.
Yes, thanks for doing this one in particular, Leo... from a 40-year Canadian Rush fan (go figure), and a Leo/Frog Leap fan.
Yes......Thank you. The fact that you took time to do this is a big deal. Thank you again
This isn't quite a cover but more like a Metal Tribute. It's beautiful.
I'd like to see "Roundabout" by Yes done by Leo, that could be amazing too.
+2112 for Roundabout, that would be epic.
@@RipCityBassWorks Hell yes it would be!
Yes, some Yes - Roundabout
That would take some super bass chops
@@gridlock4782 I believe he might have them, remember his wife plays bass too, that could make it even more fun with her on the track.
As a longtime Rush fan, it’s hard to listen to Tom Sawyer because of decades of hearing it get overplayed. This version is fresh and awesome, and put a smile on my face in spite of still being bummed about Neil. Great tribute, thanks!
I agree! Kickarse! Vocals sound almost like Dave Grohl!
Need about 11 more toms, 23 more cymbals, and 2 more arms. :D R.I.P. Peart.
I feel sorry for the bass player in these vids, he never gets as much screen time as the others in the band
😆😂👍🏻
😏
😆
Bass players are the arm pit of the band
Tbf Geddy Leo isn't a very camera friendly guy.
As a Canadian (and someone who also hails from Toronto) I really appreciate this cover, Rush was one of my favourite bands growing up and I was honestly devastated when I heard the news about Neil. Thanks so much for doing this, Leo, and may the Professor’s legacy forever live on. RIP Neil Peart
I feel ya brother as I’m from the area /era aswell
Same here, just a little further North though up in North Bay.
Brings back so many great memories! I’m from Burlington Ontario

Everyone: it takes balls to do a Rush cover.
Leo: ((sets giant nuts on table and picks up guitar...))
What a great tribute with some amazing Leo flare thrown in.
I was in a band that did 36 RUSH songs. It is not as hard as you might think, just genuine.
I dunno I liked Deadsy's cover of this song.
@@isoufo you are missing the point. Look at his other works.
My band did 36 RUSH covers. La villa, 2112 (entire album), Xanadu, etc
nah his purple haze cover took a set of elephant gonads
One of the best covers of Tom Sawyer I’ve ever heard. RIP Neil. I hope your riding your motorcycle in some far off peaceful place.
RIP Neil Peart...well done and well deserved.
thank you, Leo
I really hesitated on watching this just knowing how hard it is to cover Rush, but have to say that it’s probably your coolest cover since Toto.
This was the greatest tribute to one of our greatest musicians. You deserve some kind of award for this. Seriously, I’ve never cried while watching a heavy metal guy scream his face off. Cheers to you bro. This should go in the hall of fame.
This is probably an all time favorite Rush song. (I am a huge Rush fan) Great cover you made it yours and stayed true this is a good one! Neil Peart, Your favorite drummer's favorite drummer. (Not my words but I absolutely love this quote!) R.I.P. Neil Peart
Would love to see a metal cover of "Subdivisions", my favorite Rush song.
Allegaeon do a great Subdivisions cover
Yes
Metal cover of Analog Kid.
Red Sector A
If anybody is keeping track, I agree with Timmy.
Sounds great. I love how it stuck semi-close to the original. It wasn't too "metaled" up or any shit like that. Perfect cover!
The best covers are ones that keep the soul of the original intact, but keep the identity of the new artist.
It's a delicate balance, and Leo has mastered the art.
Well said. I agree.
That guitar tone is amazing!
Brilliant rendition. Rest in peace professor.
This is my favourite thing you've ever made. Who knew downtuned Rush would sound so fucking good?!
RIP Neil Peart
I still think Carry On Wayward Son would be an excellent cover.
Check out covers by GWAR and Yngwie Malmsteen.
I know that's real 🔥🔥🔥
Big Dave the Middle Age Gamer Gwars’ is killer.
Agreed would love to hear it covered by Leo
please not | #on second thought...whatever. do the 99 beers on the wall song, or the Humpty Dumpty rhyme.
WE THE NORTH 🇨🇦 appreciate the tribute to Neil. A true Canadian treasure. ‘Thx Leo..... well done......Stop by for coffee would love to see you live in Canada!!!!
Rush cut a groove in rock n roll that didn't exist ... and our lives are all better for it. This is a good cover.
I read a suggestion last week that i would like to hear in your version: Ram Jam "BLACK BETTY"
Headfield 007 YYYEEESSSSSSS
Spider Bait did YEARS ago... check it out
Yes yes fuck yes. We need this.
@@escapingloserville7573 yep would be good, but spiderbait did a kick arse cover
Yes please this would be awesome.
Awww. I like how you ended it with the memoriam and didn't do yout outro. Very classy.
This comment should have more likes!
I love it! Especially the end when it goes quiet instead of the drums.
Wow!! A blast from the past. I am 59, saw my first concert at Winterland, I was 13!! They were Rush, Bachmann Turner Overdrive, and Wishbone Ash. Now that is history!!! Jeannie in Lakeport California USA. GLORY TO UKRAINE!!!!!
How many kept watching just to see how the drums came out? Nice job!
I agree, but I wish he had pushed the fill at the end more to the front in the mix.
Drums might be his best talent.
Guilty
Detroit Wrecker drums part are make on a computer
@PaPa-D the drum sound like ez drummer. If he really play the drum, im sure that there is a lot of editing... (edit :No drum kit on his gear list...and toontrack )
“No his mind is not for rent
To any god or government
Always hopeful, yet discontent
He knows changes aren’t permanent
But change is”
Thanks Neil...
Lyrics adapted by Neil from the poem 'Louis the Lawyer,' by Pye Dubois.
There is only ONE GOD) he created you)
@@Smileatlife37 One god? No. The Bible says no other gods come before Him. Which 100% acknowledges that there are other gods.
As a lifelong Rush fan, I have to say I'm impressed! Not bad, wasn't sure what to expect but I like it.
I had the honor to escort Rush to the stage in Halifax Nova Scotia. Truly awesome band that made just incredible music and this video is a great tribute to the band.
I'm happy we have this guy
I would give my left leg to hear your rendition of Rush’s “Red Barchetta.”
Im really proud of you right now Leo. RIP Neil
A very worthy version of a classic song...great job Leo...made my day. You WILL be missed Neil
#RIPNeilPeart
This Canadian would like to offer a beer for a pretty darn fine cover. Kudos, sir!
As a Rush fan, i can appreciate this. Good job Leo
Great salute to one of my favorite drummers. Thanks Leo.
Rush fan for over 40 years. That’s one of the best covers I’ve ever seen. Uber talented. Well done sir!!
The best ever. Thank you Leo. RIP Neil.
Thanks Leo - you did justice to this and as usual added your own style --- loved watching that E vibrating === RIP Neil...
RIP to the greatest drummer and lyricist to ever grace rock music. Neil E. Peart.
Please do talking heads once in a life time. That would be epic.
Your cover of this song is a moving tribute to the musicality of the original. You did it right. Well done!
Do a death metal version of the Sesame Street theme song.
Cookie Monster - Skull full of Maggots
@@ryklatortuga4146 Cannibal Corpse reference, I love it.
It's funny that you suggest something like Sesame Street. Years ago my band and I toyed around with the idea of taking a happy kids theme song and adding a death metal flavor to it. So we turned the Smurfs theme song into a death metal song. If you can somehow combine the Smurfs "La la..." into the guitars and combine it with the ending of Megadeth's "Wake up Dead" you would have the song. Can you hear it? Watching people mosh to this was hilarious.
LOL, love it.
'the sesame street theme song'... that's not that simple - the american version? Because the version Leo knows is most likely a custom swedish theme song and the same for any non-americans in the audience... the US version wouldn't do anything for me personally.
This is a fantastic cover! I have always been amazed at the fact 3 guys can make that wall of sound. Hats off senior Frog- just one guy making it happen...
Love this guy. Huge talent.
When 2012 came out back in the 70s it changed all of how I listened and played music. Those 3 guys could put out the music! I become a big fan of Rush. You covered Tom Sawyer pretty nicely! RIP Neil Peart. Hope to meet you up in heaven when it's my time!
You should listen to 2112 it's even better ;)
You did a great job on this one.... including the iconic drum solo. RIP Professor.
Thank you Leo. Thank you. As a Rush fan since the 70s and have been crying for the last week, thank you.
Thanks Leo
I'm 62 and saw rush in 1975
I'm a proud Canadian
This is one of if not the best and most respectful cover I've heard on your channel, you rock!
Wow. That's one great cover! You have managed to add to a classic Rush song. Neil and Rush would be proud of this one. R.I.P Neil.
Great take on the Rush classic, Leo. Love your talent and enthusiasm.
Amazing version. Love it.
I think "Primus - Wynona's big brown beaver" in your style would be incredible!
I love primus, but I feel like it's just not Leo's style at all. I don't think he would cover it
@@the-engneer I agree if you speak about primus in general, but I think that specific song can be really good... Opinions of course...
@@lucatessaro5014 Well Leo can cover basically anything, so I'm sure he could do it if he really wanted. It's just hard for me to imagine anyone else sing that song
@@lucatessaro5014 Have you ever seen them do it acoustic!? It's awesome
@@the-engneer unfortunately no :/
Thank you so much for this song. I am a huge Rush fan.
Dude you are a fricken beast. Well done. Rest easy Neil you will be dearly missed.
Fantastic cover Leo. Rush has always been 1of my favorite groups. You did a fantastic job.
As a Rush fan, thank you for doing this. You're a bit of a modern day Tom Sawyer yourself. :-)
Wonderful... and brings a tear to my eye... RIP Neil Peart
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I love this version, too.
Everything VERY amazing here... sounds, video, feel, ambience... editing, voice... wow, man... congrats. Thanks.
Gotta say, Leo, this is an astounding cover. Just awesome! a beautiful homage that couldn't have been done better
Leo, thanks for paying homage to the professor, Neil Peart. I've been a Rush fan since 1977, seen them 30 times, first tour was Permanent Waves, and the last was their final show in L.A. When Neil came from behind his kit and surprised both Geddy and Alex and the crowd, and then took a bow and waved goodbye, tears streamed like rain. Hearing the devastatingly surreal news of his passing, I, like millions of other fans, lost a part of ourselves. Anywhom, dude, thanks for doing this cover. I'm sure Neil would have smiled. Peace.
I saw RUSH 30 times too! HOoo i wish i can live it all again! :) I saw their last concert in Canada Vancouver. So intence and emotional. Seattle and Portland Too. R40 was an Anthem to RUSH. First concert Moving PIctures Montreal ... I Remember.
I only saw them twice (1994/2003), but they blew my hair back both times!
Rush were Gods amongst men. One of the most perfect songs ever written.
Leo, I wanted to publically thank you for showing drumming hero Neil Peart such respect. If you ever come to Atlanta I'll be at a Frog Leap show. I'm a big fan of your videos.
Leo, I have been subscribed and following your channel for a long time. You have outdone yourself with this one. Thank you for doing Tom Sawyer. RIP Neil Peart. I am in Canada too and a hour away from his home town. Keep it heavy, keep on rockin' Leo!
This song is RUSH's most recognizable in the USA. This was a fantastic tribute to "The Professor". Thank you! #RIPNeilPeart 💖
I'd argue XYZ is up there neck and neck with this song
@@ParrishT3 You mean "YYZ".
I've never heard Geddy's voice so deep and growly. Hehehe...
Huge Rush fan for years. This was the first song I remember hearing, WAY BACK IN THE DAY!!!
Great tribute to Neil.
That was incredible. I’m almost speechless at your talent. The musicianship, video and sound production are all first class. All the best to you sir.
Thank you from Canada. They’re a tough act to cover, but you did justice. Such an honour to see his impact halfway across the world.
Anything by CCR!
Once again Leo proved me wrong. When I saw Rush, I thought, no way he's going to do this song justice, but he did. This guy never disappoints. \m/ Oh yeah, Bad Moon Rising by CCR should be next. Happy sounding song w/ dark lyrics needs to be roughed up a little. Take it away, Leo.....
Seeing Leo cover anything CCR would be hilariously awesome ^.^
Monster under your bed so true ,never dissapoints
Down on the Corner, id love to hear what leo does with that funky guitar riff...maybe the tuba again
Agree with Bad moon rising, but much prefer the Reels version, and it would give Leo more to work with too..
Would love to hear that!
magic.... thanks Leo...love the guitars in this song..
A cover like this reminds me of just how "metal" RUSH really is.
💞exit the warrior💞
Respect Leo. Rest in peace Neil, I always enjoyed your playing.
i think neil would have been proud of this version
I honestly did not know what to make of this cover when I first saw it. After listening I actually really enjoyed it. I can tell that you made it with sincere admiration for Rush and the drumming of Neil Peart. Well done... Very well done
Hellllyeahhh! Absolutely BADASS cover!! Bravo!!
Very timely. RIP Neil! Great rendition Leo. I love it.
I've been hoping you would do this song as a tribute, and as usual you did an amazing job. What an amazing way to pay respects to an amazing musician, RIP Neil
To play all of the instruments so well, then lacing them together reminds me of 8 tracks.
Thank you for this. I'm a Rush fanatic...Geddy is the entire reason I play bass guitar....but I know they aren't everyone's cup of tea. Takes a lot of talent and balls to cover this classic, and you, as always, have both. Well done.
Thanks for doing this Leo. Safe roads over the horizon Neil!
"Tribute" by Tenacious D. Trust me. It is *THE PERFECT* Frog Leap Studios song. Either you as Jack Black, Rabea as Kyle, and Hannah as the demon, or even better, you as Jack Black, Stine as Kyle, and your daughter as the demon. Either way, it will be awesome in ways humanity has never considered and is not remotely prepared for.
Yeah but it's pretty metal to begin with.
So Leo'll do it, and make it double metal!!
The Norwegian government passed a law forbidding this type of collaboration. It would cause a satirical meta(l) explosion of unprecedented proportions.
Maybe one of my favorite songs growing up and you nailed it with the conversion to the wonderful world of metal... thank you for giving me back my childhood
Leo, pure class, you do the song honor and justice.
RIP Neil Peart
You should play it with Hannah on your shows
You might have something there... Her vocal would be an interesting and probably good contrast from Geddy!
He played a lot of gigs with Hanna
My favorite cover so far!
THE best cover of this song I have ever heard, Leo. What a class act as well!
This cover is just wonderful. A kickass tribute to Neil!
I was waiting for the synth riff and was happy to hear it at midway and end of the cover :D
Really kept that intricate RUSH sound!
Brother, you caught the magic of that song in your rendition. Very well done!
