Being young - wondering why squidward is a jerk -being a teenager - understanding squidward on a basic level growing up - fully understand and sympathizing with squidward
The sad thing is, for anyone who has walked in Squidward's shoes, all of this is obvious. Those of us with big-dreams often contemplate on how difficult they are to achieve. So we usually stay in bad-situation jobs because of the fact that, "We already have this job and it makes us money." It's that security that paralyzes us. More often than not we say, "Don't leave this job until you have something better." But the mere act of putting out your resume and applying to places can be exhausting and mind-numbing, especially since even getting an interview is no guarantee of getting the job. It's an emotional rollercoaster that can leave you feeling drained at the end. The show goes out of its way to show that Squidward basically has no other job skills that he can use to get out of the service industry. So even if he left the Krusty Krab, he'd probably only be able to get a job at the same level instead of anything better. However, that doesn't mean he'd necessarily be "stuck" at the Krusty Krab. In episodes where he leaves his job, he either ends up destitute or inevitably returns anyway. But let's say that Squidward went to work at another Fast Food place - away from Spongebob and Krabs, where he'd basically do the same work, but in a much more peaceful environment. And, even more so, Squidward needs to parlay his work-history; more often than not when Mr. Krabs is indisposed, Squidward is left-in-charge - that technically makes Squidward a manager, if not an assistant manager. That would probably look better on a resume in addition to his years spent at the Krusty Krab. If Squidward played his cards right, he could easily end-up being an assistant manager at places like the Weenie Hut or the Noodle-Shack. But then again, that's just us thinking from a realistic standpoint, when the true tragedy is, the show is written to keep Squidward down. So no matter what Squidward does, fate will conspire against him. In the old days of the show, Squidward's art and clarinet playing were mediocre if not outright bad; in modern Spongebob, Squidward's art and music are actually _quite good,_ but everyone hates it anyway because, "It's Squidward."

I definitely agree with all of your reasons but over the years of growing up with Spongebob I've always thought of some other reasons as well. Hope it provides some insight. 1: Mr Krabs despite him being a cheapskate. He doesn't pay them as little as he lets on. Yes there have been times where the exact number has been mentioned. Like when Spongebob mentions "thats more then I make in a year!" I think these moments are mostly played for laughs. I mean think of it. Spongebob and Squidward both have pretty large houses. They don't live in a hole in the wall or run down apartments like in bobs burgers. Squidward has been shown to have very expensive art equipment. Neon, molding clay. That sort of thing. He bought that home security system which must have been a fortune. Both spongebob and squidward have had their houses damaged plenty of times and seem to fix them in hardly any time. Their kitchens are always stocked full and spongebob especially... Basically lives in a mini mansion if you think about it. I mean the size of his library alone couldn't be afforded with an awful check. I mean take the claw machine for example. Squidward was playing for an extremely long time before he went broke. They have a nice boss. Granted through all the episodes I've seen he flip flops to both extremes. Extremely nice to evil at some points. But the times he's nice really show. Sent spongebob home because of sleep deprivation, heartbreak over his spatula, etc. Tries to spend time with them outside of work. Treasure hunt, clam fishing, that sort of thing. Those might not be the best examples because he flew off the handle at the end but he still did try to be nice. Dying for pie shows him having a ton of compassion. 3 Squidward needs them even if he doesn't act like it. He needs Spongebob to boost him up because he lacks his optimism. All the reasons you mentioned but a few more too. They've gone through everything together and are far closer then most neighbors. The snowball fight, treehouse episode, squidwards paradise. Watching Gary for him. Even if he barely did anything he still wanted to do the right thing. I also think a lot of the reason Squidward "hates" Spongebob is caregiver burnout. I think Spongebob's parents asked Squidward to look after him in his adult years. I think he could be on the spectrum or simply have a complicated disability like many have pointed out. The lack of a license, feeling so close to his friends but especially Squidward. Many of the people in Spongebob's life know he is kinda a pain but also keeps them on their toes and lightens things up. There are countless examples in the show that hint at it. Treated like a kid despite being a young adult. The play they all put on for him in best day ever. Squidward and Mr Krabs acting parental. The orginal Spongebob movie where Mr karbs tries to let him down easy about not being fit for a manager. In the characters perspectives he's just a kid, but has house, job etc. Which is how a complex disability tends to feel.
Yeah I feel bad for Squidward but i believe he puts up with the Krusty Krab because he knows something very important that will allow it all to be worth it... like a huge plot twist will appear and mister krabs reveals Squidward is the real mastermind behind the secret formula and that's why he stays to work there and after Krabs dies he will hold it above SpongeBobs head forever
