  • It is now 40 years since 20,000 people from black communities marched to demand justice over the New Cross Massacre, when 13 teenagers died in a fire at 16 year old Yvonne Ruddock's birthday party.
Anti-racist activist Lucie Scott explains why a public inquiry is needed, and how, far from offering condolences and a proper investigation, the state and the police unleashed Operation Swamp - which led to uprisings all over the country.
40 years on, institutional racism is just as bad. 13 dead - still nothing said.

My deepest sympathies for all affected by this awful disaster. I lost my mum and a friend at Hillsborough and many of my friends were injured so I can empathise with those who lose their loved ones in such tragic circumstances and then have to face a cover up and smears by the authorities. The appalling racist and inhumane treatment of the families affected by this fire by a corrupt police force, a criminal state, a cruel establishment and a complicit media is a national disgrace and yet another stain on this country's racist and classist history. We at the Hillsborough Justice Campaign hope these families and survivors get the truth, justice, accountability and media attention they so badly need and deserve. JUSTICE FOR THE NEW CROSS FIRE. ❤️ JUSTICE FOR THE 96. ❤️ JUSTICE FOR ALL. ❤️ ✌🏼👊🏼✊🏼
