Sweet movie…loosing a Mother is tough. So is a Father. It took me a year to get over my loss from Mom. Today I can laugh, smile and think of her without pain.
Saw this film for 1st time at 62. Now my go-to movie for days that need a'Cuppa' and kitty purrs. How lucky we are to have access to films WITH WELL WRITTEN STORIES. THANKS♥!
The most childish grown-up movie I've ever seen in my 61 years of life. So happy to be surprised at my age by another great movie. That's hard to do. 😊
Charming? I'm sorry. She's annoying to me. I feel so sad for her husband. Still, they're adorable. I suppose that's the charm, lol. Paz be with us all 🙏. "Isa"
@FemiNelson-sb1em I do understand your thoughts. I was just so surprised to see something different at my age. I love her innocents, but it would be difficult, except for Robert Young. I love how they show, how it's possible to get past a serious argument. We in America are so ready to divorce. Again, I do understand your thoughts. 😊
Olga Baclanova is fabulous (as usual) in this film! ❤️ She truly steals every scene. She was so versatile, and shows off brilliant comedic timing here.
Dorothy McGuire is adorable in this movie! She reminds me of Barbara Bel Geddes here. Same voice. Blonde, and irresistible naiveté. I love how people were so close to their inlaws and treated them like real family. They called the mother in-law "mother", instead of by their first name, like people do today. And they cared for them and took care of them in their own home until they died. Today's ways are wrong.
One of my Favourites...marvelous actress / fine comedienne. and I agree she should be more remembered. Yet, portraits of her very competitive on Ebay. She was quite the fashionista in her day !
Robert Young was a very underrated actor. After watching "Claudia", I highly recommended watching "The Mortal Storm" or "They Wouldn't Believe Me". Those movies will make you look at Robert Young in a different way.
@Library Nan You beat me to it!! I saw the Enchanted Cottage (during covid), and I was blown away by Robert Young's performance.. I only knew Robert Young as a TV personality, I didn't realize he was a film actor as well!
Love this comedy...everyone is perfect. Robert Young is prepping for "Father Knows Best", the ever patient Daddy of a Scatterbrain wife. Ina Claire, though passed her prime as a chic Broadway star of the 20s and 30s, is warm and empathetic. Olga Baclanova is hoot as Madame D...after seeing Olga in films like A Dangerous Woman and Freaks, her comedic talents are a revelation, almost like a Russian Carmen Miranda...lol A shame Dorothy McGuire is didnt become a bigger star despite grand performances in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Spiral Staircase and Till the End of Time...she is a born actress !
High quality of acting from Robert Young and Dorothy McGuire...quite gripping at times...two under rated actors. Robert transferred to TV with the memorable ‘Father Knows Best’ and ‘Marcus Welby MD’ but didn’t rise to the upper echelons as a film actor that he well deserved. Dorothy...I don’t know, will have to research.
At first I thought what a wacky movie. But I stuck it out and watched until the end. I was hoping I wouldn't cry and I didn't when the part mom is dying. It never reveals what her condition is but in those years science was not what it is in these future years. People passed very young years ago. My mom and dad passed years ago and my mom's whole family of ten are gone. As for Robert Young marrying Claudia I don't think that would have been real years ago. I know that men like fantasy girls. Claudia was a pretty fantasy girl, very silly and naive. The movie was quick and painless LOL.
I just couldn't finish watching this movie. That girl Claudia made me dizzy. running like a wild cat everywhere , she looked like a 15 year old ,she couldn't keep still for one minute, I can't stand her.
It was made in 1943. Sort of a war movie. Claudia got on my nerves also. Women were working in defense plants and in the military. She was flying around the room acting like a child.
Although movies from the 40s and 50s are all I really watch, I found it difficult to watch this film to the end, because the character of Claudia, as written and portrayed was extremely annoying. She seemed to be so completely childlike, that you would wonder why any normal man would court her, and then go so far as to marry her. Living in the same house as her, would drive me crazy. I could barely stand watching and listening to her for the length of this movie!
The next film Claudia & David is calmer but if you read the series of Claudia books she IS very young, spontaneous & naïve, she’s meant to be, plus a lot younger than David
“The Enchanted Cottage”with them in the leading roles is wonderful!!!
I thought that’s what this was, but I will watch this.
Must check it out, thanks
One of my favorites
I have been trying to find that film for ages. How can you see it?
@@gocatgo2843 I’ve only seen it on Turner classic movies channel. Not sure if you can through Utube?

Same with me after Mom died.
It is hard 😢
It was the same for me, and I had 6 years to prepare.

The oldies are new again. Great movie
great film. So much love between the son-in-law and Claudia's mother; and the house staff, too. Really good movie.
The most childish grown-up movie I've ever seen in my 61 years of life.

That's hard to do. 😊
It is difficult to explain how a movie about such a childish and immature woman could still hold so much charm isn't it?

I've lost my mom 55 days ago...devasted, lost and heartache are only the tiniest words that could describe how it feels!
Sorry Irene about your great loss of your mother. Happy to hear you had a loving relationship with with her. It was a comfort to her I'm sure.
❤
Bless you sweetheart
Her voice IS incredibly just like Bel Geddes, right enough!
💚💜💚💜💚
Loved this movie! Such great actors. I know it's just a movie set but I want to live in that house forever!
Growing up we used to watch this era of movies, the Golden Age.
Dorothy McGuire sounds just like Betty Hutton in this movie. Thanks for sharing it.
I only mentioned the main actors before, but all the acting in this film is top rate.
Olga Baclanova is fabulous (as usual) in this film! ❤️ She truly steals every scene. She was so versatile, and shows off brilliant comedic timing here.
loved the line "we keep the brook outdoors" lol
Dorothy McGuite acts like such a nitwit in this role.
@@heidilecompte4198 Yup, she was really annoying. Then a rude sad awakening shook her to grow up. I hope. Paz be with us all 🙏. "Isa"
Loved the movie. Thank you for posting it.

Yes...I noticed that similarity to Barbara...same slightly high - pitched voice, girlish yet elocutioned.
Oddball movie but enjoyable. Great acting and the setting was beautiful.
Ina Claire...quite an accomplished actress , going back to the silent era , but also on stage . Too bad that she's not given more recognition .
One of my Favourites...marvelous actress / fine comedienne. and I agree she should be more remembered. Yet, portraits of her very competitive on Ebay. She was quite the fashionista in her day !
What an endearing film. Thanks for bringing it to us 👏
Yes…♥️
I've always loved Robert Young. He never lost his looks & gentle manner. Bless him, may he rest in peace. Paz be with us all 🙏. "Isa"
Great Movie and casting

And The Enchanted Cottage.
Agreed! And H.M. Pulham Esq. too!

They were wonderful in The Secret Cottage.
Sorry, they were wonderful in The Enchanted Cottage.
I didn't realize that Robert Young and Dorothy McGuire had made several movies together.!.."The Enchanted Cottage" can't be beat!
A wonderful movie..
.
Such a beautiful movie enjoyed it very much am new subscriber Ty for uploading this old classic.❤

Both were very accomplished for their era. They were not underrated.
all the interactions in this film are gold
I always wanted to watch this movie, thank you babe ♡
A very good movie to watch on Sunday evening! Thanks!!
Do you have The enchanted cottage, both stars played in that one? Very good
I do have and love this movie but RUclips blocks it because of its copyrights. You can find the film on Ok.ru
One if my favorite movies, The Enchanted Cottage. And one of The most romantic.😗
It's on RUclips already but the title is encrypted

amazing! so great a movie!
Thx.......
Dorothy McGuire was very pretty and I liked her in Swiss Family Robinson as Mother with John Mills.
Good gosh, that screeching woman will bust your eardrums!
Melodrama at its finest.
He needs to get as far away from her as possible. He married a child.
Bit goofy but looking forward to it's follow up film.. Claudia and David (1946)
Is this the movie? I see there is a series, too. Beautiful costume. I’d like to see the program.
This is the one!
Patty, would love to follow you and make the Squared Up pattern using the enclosed in this film❣️. Going to order fabric now👍🏻. Good Video, Patty💕
She was wonderful in The Days of Wine and Roses…tragic character in that movie
That was Lee Remick!
@@georgesanchez1952 thank you.
Olga Baclanova....from Todd Browning's " Freaks"
Sweet
Shes So erratic & goofy. Lol
There’s a second movie to this one do you have it?
Yes, I do. I will post the sequel soon 😊
Thank you
truly nothing ever comes close to the originals enchanted cottage is just one .
The endless goofy humor, coupled later with exaggerated pathos, escapes me completely.
32.35 hang on I will duck outside and light up that old lantern in front of my wife and see if that works as intended.
A lovely movie.
Does RUclips block, The Chalk Garden? TCM never airs it, unfortunately.
I will check that, The Chalk Garden is one of my favorites:)
@@raresilentsandtalkies Thank you!
RUclips does seem to block The Chalk Garden. A shame...such a wonderful film 😒
Possibly because it hasn’t aged well ; Deborah Kerr her usual prim, lady-like self portraying a hardened ex jail-bird.
@@davidallen508 Ridiculous. Not sure what you were watching but she was in no way portraying a hardened criminal.

She needs a job with all that energy.
Spiral Staircase better fit.
There's a sequel to this movie titled " Claudia and David " made in 1946.

Totally ridiculous! But tremendous cast, daringly absurd script, direction made it a treat! Screwball comedy at its best.
Insanity personified!!!

There are few closeups of the actors' faces. I find it odd to watch and hard to relate to the characters
all that nonsense and fuss because no one wants to tell the truth or in the case of the dizzy blonde ...grow up ...
why did they do that with Dorothys eyebrows? they look awful
Right in style now, with those big old eye brows they brush on their faces.
I don’t think I have ever watched a more ridiculous movie in all my life! 😳
Acting was so weird back in those days.
It was called normal
I’m watching this in 2024 and looks like a stupid movie to me. I can’t watch this childish movie.
Too much whining and sarcasm. I have always liked Robert Young. Just not fond of this movie..
