This was the very first internet video I was ever allowed to watch. It is still my favorite. Every time I was allowed to watch videos I would snuggle up with my mom and browse RUclips with her, and I made sure every session would include a viewing of this video at least once. I was only 5 then. I am 19 now. These rodents are legendary!!
I love this! This is the wildest thing I have ever seen....so wonderful that you would take the time and effort to teach your mice how to surf. I don't know why, but it puts a smile on my face to see mice having so much fun and enjoying life!
Didn't know whether to cry out "freakin' hilarious!" or "animal abuse!" at first. Now that I've learned you trained them to feel comfortable with salt water, I guess these rodents have a much better time than most of their companions in small cages. Can't wait to see parachuting mice, snowboarding mice, freeclimbing mice (that's their natural talent, isn't it?) ... first mice on mars ... the sky is the limit ;)
these mice have been surfing for 3 years everyday, and are the dearest of pets. Much training has gone into them before they ever hit the little boat waves they ride. Cruel would be feeding them to snakes, the destiny that would normally be set out for breeder mice.
That's pretty cool. It's neat to see people who have discovered other ways to play and bond with their pets. Especially pets who are usually seen as being kept in cages with travel tubes most the time. My second thought after "Wow, surfing mice!" was "How nice, they're getting to be outside in the fresh air and sun, and get to see a world bigger than their enclosure!" Kinda reminds me of a pet hamster I had as a little girl that I could carry around on my shoulder and have him ride around in my jacket pocket. He had been trained by a guy to do that, but he couldn't keep Brown Sugar (the name he gave the hamster) anymore, and asked my mom if her daughter wanted a cool pet, since we happened to be walking by him at the train station. Got to keep him for a few years before he died. Anyway, I love seeing people doing cool things with their pets that's well within the pet's natural abilities and aptitudes. It's not only a great bonding experience, but it helps keep the pets from suffering from boredom and the lack of stimulation that generally happens when they're kept in their enclosures 24/7 (even if they have toys and such, there's only so many times a mouse can run in a wheel before getting tired of the thing). Bad things can happen to their health if they get too bored or unstimulated, especially when it's an intelligent critter. I'll bet these little guys are pretty happy, if they get sunshine, fresh air, exercise, and a little swim after some surf. :3
Ahh a true and origonal and very positive Aussie. Yah old cor2 needs a little counceling i think, or a nice big hug. Yeah go Shane, he is a true mouse master
I thought I was the Only Surfing Mouse? Huh' I guess Not!!! Great Video 10stars 1rst., Place for Hanging On and I give the one Mouse on the Great Board a 10++
I herd this dude on ABC Radio and just had to check it out for myself. These little guys must be the happiest of their species. Good work mate. At least these mice aren't in cages locked in laboratories.
Just saw you on Fox Good Day LA! I have had pet rats since I was a child... and many people do not know how smart and sociable they are. I trained them to do lots of things, come to their names, ride on my shoulder when I bicycle, they knew words like "no no!" as they are quite mischievous. They are very affectionate and cuddle too, it all depends on how much time you spend with them. I'm sure the rats in this video enjoy the surfing, they are such playful animals by nature.
Those rats surf better than I do. It would be cool to see a rat ride from start to finish. I am interested to see the rats initial reaction when being placed on the wave. Thanks for posting. Also, the dismount at 2:10 was awesome. Let's see Kelly slater do that.
A quote from the uploaders themselves "We love living here up in sunny Queensland because we get to surf most of the year as the water is warm and the weather is mild." and "To all you brave mice out there at home who think this sounds like a groovy idea, please do not try this. We are trained proffessionals and have endured a lengthy process learning how to swim and how to balance on a board."
I have owned quite a few rats and they do love water! Looks like super fun for you and your pets - indoor "pocket pets" hardly ever get to run around outside at all during their lives, it's good to see something like this! :)
At first I thought, no way this HAS to be fake, but damn that was awesome! I tried to put my pet rat in the bath once as I heard that some enjoyed playing in the water, and my rat FLIPPED out haha. Nice vid! 5 Stars.
Iv seen a doco on this guy & the mice,He trains them from an early age & they seem happy as to jump on their little boards....So if you think its cruel...think again.THEY LOVE IT!
Finally, someone that has an open mind.... Can't believe so many people think they are rats even though i have said it soooo many times. Being the crew that own and surf these mice you think they may listen...... we will set you all straight with anew posting one of these days and you can all choke on your words
Ahhhh amazing waves I always watch amazed riding the heavy waves with heavy music like Delta Parole or with relaxing music videos in background. If crazy like then always heavy tho
Neat video but did you train them todo this? i saw the gripping on the board and you were by them the whole time so i don't think they killed any mice people.
Harry is better than some surfers I know in real life!! Look, he almost gets barreled at 0:36, then does the bottom turn and almost a cutback at 1:45!!
A great surprise. I knew they are intelligent, they live by our side (millions) and it is very hard to catch one, they know how to survive among people that don't like of them. This shows that maybe animals can learn a lot of things if someone teach them.
Whether they are rats or mice or any other small animal, the video is cute and the concept is unique. I am hoping (more assuming) you have a few people on hand to make sure the wipe outs get saved right away. =)
these mice are insaneeeee there was some guy on fuel tv (channel 317 on charter) that was saying something about this did you have to train those mice to be good at surfing or was it natural?
To all the people who say this is cruel - these are mice! They swim the sewers and up the drains into your toilet!! If they didn't like it, they'd jump off! It can take DAYS or WEEKS before a mouse/rat in water will drown. If they can survive (easily!) in sewers and garbage, a little fresh or salt water won't hurt (read the text - rivers and estuaries). Why can't rodents have fun?! Go, guys! (Absolutely LOVE the little surfboards)
I call my pet rats mousies. People that don't know rats tend to freak out when they hear the word rat, but not so much when they hear the word mouse. It feels much cuter to say mouse or mousie than rat. Rats deserve for everyone to know how awesome they are though.
On a second look... they really do look like they could be mice. I'd be very interested to see pictures of them. I'd love to see these cuties up close and personal! Do post a link at some point so we can get to know each of these mice. =)
Did some research on mice swimming and most of what I've seen is "They are not afraid of water and swim well." One wiki page said they panicked in water, but several others seem to contradict this. I'd have to say I think these guys are fine. (be easier to tell if we were there, but not gonna happen)
Okay so what i wanna know is what happens when you put them on the surfboard in the water (when the mice are at the deepest part of the water) and when they fall off straight away...wont they drown? or are they smart enough to swim back to shore?

Harry gets the sickest wave! He almost gets barreled, but wipes out. So gnarly bro!
0:31 Harry is tearing that wave up!!
I love this! This is the wildest thing I have ever seen....so wonderful that you would take the time and effort to teach your mice how to surf. I don't know why, but it puts a smile on my face to see mice having so much fun and enjoying life!

Hahahaha! The mouse that bailed at about 45 seconds! Brilliant.
these mice have been surfing for 3 years everyday, and are the dearest of pets. Much training has gone into them before they ever hit the little boat waves they ride. Cruel would be feeding them to snakes, the destiny that would normally be set out for breeder mice.
so cute!!!!! he said the mice like to surf and have never gotten hurt . still so cute!!!!
Domestic rats. Not mice

I grew up surfing and I am here t o tell you, they really are surfung lol, we are all here to experience and enjoy the thrill of it all, ALL of us ; )
Heh heh! That's almost exactly what I was thinking! Though the latter, they look like they are having fun ^^
I thoroughly enjoyed watching that. Was funny as hell and totally rad at the same time!
I think this is the best video I have ever laid my eyes on... I have reached enlightenment...
Ahh a true and origonal and very positive Aussie.
Yah old cor2 needs a little counceling i think, or a nice big hug. Yeah go Shane, he is a true mouse master
I thought I was the Only Surfing Mouse? Huh' I guess Not!!! Great Video 10stars 1rst., Place for Hanging On and I give the one Mouse on the Great Board a 10++
I'm not sure what kind of twisted mentality came up with this, but....I like it. Very original!
That is the coolest thing I have ever seen!!
And it looks like they are really enjoying it.
Probably the greatest video EVER MADE!
I herd this dude on ABC Radio and just had to check it out for myself. These little guys must be the happiest of their species. Good work mate. At least these mice aren't in cages locked in laboratories.
This is the cutest thing I have EVER seen. Fantastic! Rats are wonderful. Great job, guys!

That wipeout was sick!! ha
This is so awesome
Wow, lol. That. . . Wow, lol. Very cool. Bet the rats had a blast on that one. Cant wait until I get a new board =P
Well, those rodents are great surfers for sure, I'd say they surf better than most of the guys waiting for waves in the summer on my homespot...
This is THE GREATEST thng ive ever seen on RUclips!
Love how he just jumps off at the end "now let's go sky diving".
Those rats surf better than I do. It would be cool to see a rat ride from start to finish. I am interested to see the rats initial reaction when being placed on the wave. Thanks for posting. Also, the dismount at 2:10 was awesome. Let's see Kelly slater do that.

This is an EPIC video, and don't worry, the rats are fine, they're actually brilliant swimmers.
I have owned quite a few rats and they do love water! Looks like super fun for you and your pets - indoor "pocket pets" hardly ever get to run around outside at all during their lives, it's good to see something like this! :)

by far my favorite video ever
lol man that was AWESOME!!! hell yes! finally, someone teaches something besides their dog to surf. 5 stars for this awesomeness!
thats awsome!!!!!! I cant even d othat and wat a sesh. Those are some nice waves for mice!
@MrYummyRiceball you just hit the nail right on the head with that comment as Billabong says"Only a surfer knows the feeling"
harry's first wave is epic
Damn... So I am guessing Master Splinter taught Michelangelo how to surf.Cowabunga!
that was amazing, how long did they take to train or did you just put the on the boards?
Iv seen a doco on this guy & the mice,He trains them from an early age & they seem happy as to jump on their little boards....So if you think its cruel...think again.THEY LOVE IT!

lol, this is adorable, I laughed through the entire vid!!
0.30 - bomb of the day, and a heavy wipeout...he would have certainly gained some respect in the lineup for that wave!!
Im sure humans do much worse things then this to the little rodents. The dismount at the end was legendary!
Awesome idea!!! I love it.
These mice rip! And I bet they're having a great time!!! All mice should be so lucky.
Ahhhh amazing waves I always watch amazed riding the heavy waves with heavy music like Delta Parole or with relaxing music videos in background. If crazy like then always heavy tho
awesome!!!! mice learning surfing cool
Neat video but did you train them todo this? i saw the gripping on the board and you were by them the whole time so i don't think they killed any mice people.
Low-key those mice do look like they're havin fun not gonna lie

harry is ok man im glad that was a sick wipeout
xD funny stuff. Looks like they all stay on the boards by instinct like "Omfg deep water D:>" Haha, neat though!
lol i love this video so cute, the mouse can surf better than me tbh..
So adorable. Not mice though, from what I can tell. Totally looks like adorable rats. Good work!
aww man! now even mice are better at surfing than me!
Nice waves mice!
The only scientific difference between mice and rats is size. A mouse is a small rat. A rat is a small mouse. And you are awesome!
Fantastical surfing rodents! They're so lucky to be riding custom boards... who made those boards anyway?
Nice footage!
This is Mavericks to these little guys!
They're getting some good rides in there!
Whether they are rats or mice or any other small animal, the video is cute and the concept is unique. I am hoping (more assuming) you have a few people on hand to make sure the wipe outs get saved right away. =)
Rats are very smart creatures and they can do a lot of cool things
that looks fun, great music too
i used to pull my Rats around in a rat cage with wheels
behind my Tamiya (super-champ) RC CAR
they loved it,
these mice are insaneeeee
there was some guy on fuel tv (channel 317 on charter) that was saying something about this

i love how some of them are just sorta milling around.
Aww, that's so precious and cute!:) They are good too.
31 seconds into it is such a sweet wave, he almost got some Tube-action! But seriously, this is the illest thing I've seen in a month
Sweet vid bro!
That was the cutest thing I've ever seen. The dark colored one was even steering with its tail. How often do you take them surfing?
:D
awesome! hope to see more soon
WOW harry's first wave was like double over head.
are you sure these are mice? wow!!! cool surfing...
this is the coolest video on youtube!!
Hey! This video was featured at K-zone magazine!!! Cool!!!
I call my pet rats mousies. People that don't know rats tend to freak out when they hear the word rat, but not so much when they hear the word mouse. It feels much cuter to say mouse or mousie than rat. Rats deserve for everyone to know how awesome they are though.
thats awsome. i saw this in a magazine once
They surf better than I do !

I've told my friends about this ;o) they don't believe me LOL cool video
Very cute!!!! I love ratties!
Artemis: "Mice = Cute, Rats = Evil"
No. Only humans are evil. But fortunately, a few of us are not.
Those Mice Are Soo Cool
Oh ok, thanks. How did you get them to stay on the boards like that though?
Okay so what i wanna know is what happens when you put them on the surfboard in the water (when the mice are at the deepest part of the water) and when they fall off straight away...wont they drown? or are they smart enough to swim back to shore?
OMFG... THOSE RATS ARE AWESOME!
Those mice are pretty good ^^
Ho did you teach them this? This is amazing and adorable!
i have been looking for this and i found it:)
I want to see them on like 5 footers, that would be pretty funny... but this is pretty cool
Oh My God ! These Guys Surf Better Then most People !!!!!!
Really cool! but how do they paddle? ;)
