5 Chicken Coop Problems I fix in ONE DAY - Chicken Checkup 102 - Maria

- Maria contacted me about her chicken coop problems that were causing her chickens to not lay eggs. One big problem is her chicken coop doesn't have a run so while she's at work all day the chickens aren't happy not getting any sunshine. In this episode of Chicken Checkup I visit Maria's homestead and give her chicken coop a makeover that will make her chickens happy so they lay lots of eggs.

So glad you brought back chicken checkup! Loved the tips keep up the great inspiration
Thank you☀️❤️☀️
Hey Becky These are my favorite types of videos please do more 😫
Number three is cooking☀️❤️☀️
What a little TLC could do for Maria's chicken coop! It turned out wonderful! I have never thought of doing construction before, but, Becky did! You are very inspiring! ❤️❤️💐💐🐥❤️🐔🐔🐓🐔🐔❤️❤️
This was like watching fixer-upper...hen/chicken house style. Thank you, Becky you are amazing!
😂😂😂
I love watching you refurbish chicken coops. Please make more videos doing this .they are so fun to watch.
Becky, this was very informative!
Considering the wind, convenience, air circulation in the henhouse...all those aspects clearly guided the changes you and Marie made.
I agree about the pan, or crock of water. Decades ago, my chickens enjoyed taking generous drinks from our somewhat flat ceramic bowl.
I added well-cleaned rocks to the bowl when our chicks hatched to prevent drowning (we lost one chick). The rocks did the trick, providing the chicks with safe footing if they accidentally hopped in.
It's all in the details, isn't it.
Hey, speaking of flat ceramic bowl, I once bought one that would be perfect! I found it with pottery in amongst the pots and vases for flowers or vegetables. I think its purpose was to plant a cactus garden; at least that's what I used it for. It's probably 8-10" across by 2 1/2-3" tall. Amazingly, there is a lip on the bowl that is about 3/4" wide. Perfect!!!
Becky you should make a business out of this you are really good at this😍😍😍
Thank you☀️❤️☀️
Just got 5 little 4 week old pullets. Your channel has helped me immensely.
I'm so glad!! My website Beckyshomestead.com has tons of videos to help you take good care of them☀️❤️☀️
I absolutely love you! Sweet - down to earth and honest!

Maria seem so sweet. God bless her.
Becky you are amazing at this !!!!
That’s a lot of work Becky, good job to both of you! Loved the video and can definitely relate to the bumps in the road :)
I just LOVE THE COOP !! I love you Becky :) God bless you :)
Hahahaha thanks☀️❤️☀️
I love these coop check ups❤❤ I don't think I could work with the owner there though. Some folks too dang picky. Get a good idea of what they want and they need to let you do your job. I loved that you did the roost up in the corner because if the chickens were using only one probably that top one then they liked being up a little higher so now they have 3 high roosts. ❤❤ I'm with you on the nesting boxes as well. They liked the covered ones more from what I seen. Mine never used the open one. I should've built mine like a shed so I could walk in instead of having to climb in but I was limited on wood and supplies because there was a all time high on lumber at the time so a friend was remodeling and was just throwing away perfectly good wood so I came and got most of it and built a coop with a n almost 20ft run 8ft wide and can walk into the run as I made it tall enough so I could walk in. I get my eggs from the back with doors but I've figured out my hens lay in the mornings by 10 or 11 am they are done so I don't check till normally in the evening. Mine even talk to me when they want back in to lay since they free range during the day an makes this growing noise. I almost know all my chickens calls and what they mean. I spend alot of time with them and love it. It's like meditation for me.
Oh Tyler!!! Your little story is like music to my ears! I am old (68 oh shoot!) and have cancer (oh shoot!) And am bedridden (oh shoot!). LOL! I pretty much live watching videos about chickens! I love everything there is, even including the work needed! I have decided that if I live, and the Lord agrees, I'm going to have some chickens!!! Becky says start with 2 and I will give that a lot of thought (I want about 6 and may try to talk to her about it)! God bless you and your chickens!!!
It is Sunday night here in Tokyo and I always end my weekend watching you!!!
Hahaha how sweet☀️❤️☀️

6:20 UMM it sounds like she might be laying somewhere else 😂 Maria needs to look around her homestead for eggs! They might be in a shed, or under some stairs

Hi Becky, I love you're videos. I have learned so much from you and your book is very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
Your welcome☀️❤️☀️
Wow ! I would love to have a coop that big! You did a great job redoing the coop and making the chickens a covered run!
i love your Chicken Checkup videos. Please do more of them. We can learn a lot from these.. Great job Becky!
Thanks, glad you like them☀️❤️☀️
I love it! Great coop great ideas you give.
Love the look of this coop. And only 3 chickens living there!! My daughter has 11 hens. I have always felt her coop/ run wasn't large enough. I'll share this video with her.
That is the number one mistake people make is over crowding. Maria's coop can hold about 6 or 7 chickens☀️❤️☀️
Becky please do more of these I love them!!!
Wow 🤯😳 I really addmire you buildings skills you are very strong
I love all the things you do
How you help that lady
I hoping she is greatfull for all the help you gave her 😊
Fantastic! The coop looks really nice.
Becky- I loved you’re purple palace idea however as a customer you had to go with that 🌻
Hello, I waited a lot from you, a program to make my chickens multiply and grow quickly, thank you
I enjoyed this so much!!!! Keep up the great work. 🐓❤️
I'm so glad you liked it☀️❤️☀️
I’m new to this channel and I love it! I’ve learned so much on how to take better care of my chicky girls😊 Thank you!!!
Welcome. I'm happy to help☀️❤️☀️
I think Becky meant to say that a hen being egg-bound is really a "pain in the butt" not the neck...haha!
Hahahahaha yes a pain in the butt ☀️❤️☀️
@@BeckysHomestead How do you know your hen is egg-bound?
I painted my TSC coop neon yellow green when I bought it 6 years ago. I love it! I just wish it was bigger and more durable. I probably will replace it in a couple of years for my 3 girls.
This was great! Love the coop ❤️🐔
You have the best chicken coop ideas Becky! Why put the boards and tin on the coop? Wouldn't they be really hot in the Florida weather?
Great tips and advice for the lady. The chickens will be nice and happy now
They are☀️❤️☀️
😂😂😂🐤🐣🐔
Nice job hopefully she can benefit from it 👍🏻👍🏻
She loves it☀️❤️☀️
Awesome video love seeing you do what you love
Becky is the best!!!
Looks great Becky.
Great coop makeover! All it needed was a little shiplap. : )
Becky what is a good egg layer meat bird combination. ?
I love the video so interesting!! Thanks so much for the info 🙂Becky
Your welcome☀️❤️☀️
So much Chicken Love. So Sweet.
Changing the roost was great they are less likely to have conflicts over who's the boss
No, they are more likely to get into fights, the roost goes hand in hand with the pecking order.
Love your videos! I bought a portable pre-built coop and going to get 3 chickens. My question is, should I put some 1/2" welded wire over top the chicken wire since we have snakes and live close to the woods. I do not want to kill my king, black or rat snakes but I do not want the snakes to eat my eggs.
You did great Becky! 👏
I love these coop make~ overs
this was such great help we just made are chicken run bigger and they love it
More chicken check up please!
Becky Homestead I love your videos I hope you post more but a few of my chickens got stolen by raccoons and stuff and coyotes have a Coyote Den but I hope you play some videos on that
Missed a perfect opportunity for an eggcellent pun... egg bound chicken is a pain in the butt to deal with. :-D
you need a pole digger for that pole. it will make it easier to dig that hole for it. great job helping her on the chicken farm.
Hey Josh thank you for the video
I so agree with you about the nipple waterers. I used mine for a month. My chickens constantly cried. ( a good chicken owner knows that cry) I replaced the nipple waterer with their metal old fashioned waterer and they drank and drank and no more crying!!! Yes the nipple waterers work BUT...chickens not happy.
Big fan of the "Chicken Check-Up"! Luv it!
Thanks so much, I'm glad you like it☀️❤️☀️
Becky your amazing
Hola becky... te cuento que estoy aprendiendo mucho de tu idioma con tus videos que son fantásticos.
Hello becky... i tell you that im lerning your idiom with your videos are fantastics...
Saludos desde colombia.
Greetings from colombia.
Great job 👏
Love these videos thanks xx
Your welcome, I'm glad you like it☀️❤️☀️
The theme song! I am almost in tears.
Very interesting Becky, only one thing... I don't think getting eggbound is a pain in "the neck." 🤣😂🤣
Sty nw frnd 👍💐
Another idea to accent and add more purple would be to paint the chicken wire purple with a roller and it wouldn't be too saturated with the gaps in The wire...
Becky is such a Karen ❤️😂
Please share chicken coop checkup sequels! :)
I like the tin too! 🙂
Safety glasses are a must!
Yeah! Been working on my coop. I can’t have a run because of the horses but there aren’t many predators and someone’s always home.
There are always predators, don't kid yourself. I love a good farm dog for that reason☀️❤️☀️
Lol yes we have 5 farm dogs and the do alert us but we haven’t seen a coyote or raccoon in years.
But I love what you do and my husband calls me the chicken lady and and says I need to stop watching your videos. LOL not a chance , you give me good tips all the time.
@@blumerlredpilledgirl8958 because they skulk around at night
That was so cute!
Finally it has been 1 year
Do you not have weasels and raccoons in Florida? That coop seems to be lacking in security with only chicken wire covering all those openings.
God bless you
I just don't know what to say lol it's so indescribable 🤗🤗
Love it so much you should make more about chickens
I watch it because I’m getting three chickens in April and I learned a lot of things I need to know like the mud bath and the rock in the bottom of the water or they will drown
Becky
Awesome video !!!
Linda from Ct
Such an upgrade!
Her chickens love it☀️❤️☀️
I need help planning a new coop, I only have one small tree. I’ve kept chickens before and miss them so much. I really want a happy place for my chickens, my main concern is keeping it cool in the summer. It does get below freezing in the winter off and on. We have a breeze most of the time, winter and summer. HELP
Nice work
Thanks☀️❤️☀️
IF YOURE EVER IN SANTA BARBARA CALIFORNIA PLEASE LET ME KNOW! I need a chicken coop checkup
So talented!!
Oh, thank you☀️❤️☀️
I like the metal not painted too 😃
Hahaha, no purple on the medal ☀️❤️☀️
My daughter in the future wants to own some chickens so shes learning from your videos🐥🐤🐣🐣🦃🐓🐓🐓🐓🐔🐔🐔🐔🐣🐣🐣🐤🐤🐥🐥🐥
I would worry about predators. All of them. So many spaces for them to get in. Chickens do eat grass and bugs.
I love your videos my chickens lay blue eggs
An amazing chick improvement lol
Hi Becky,
Thank you for allyour videos. Can you tell us how (if at all) we can help a lone 4-mo. old chicken in our backyard flock? Her “sister” recently died from our Arizona heat, and now our 3 adult hens (including “mom”) won’t have anything to do with the remaining young’un, bully her, etc. The two “siblings” were thick as thieves, and the survivor is so ostracized now.
This all started innocently enough with 3 fertilized eggs from a neighbor’s flock and a broody hen of ours. One egg disappeared(!), the other two hatched…and then there was one. But I can’t imagine we can go out and simply buy the surviving “chick” another playmate(s); rather, I’m guessing we’d wind up with an even more stratified “flock.” It’s just sad. We’ve since learned a lot about the heat tolerance of Black Australorp chickens, and this won’t happen again. Thank you!
Can you have another homestead tour!!! Plsss
Becky you are one though woman
Awesome job
Thanks☀️❤️☀️
😅 The reason I DO like picky people is because it's an expression of their likes and dislikes, and that's important to know, and also it shows their uniqueness, and it makes them all the more interesting. I have a lot of respect for those who insist on proudly being themselves. 😊😘💟
Being a little picky is fine but too picky is not. Too picky is selfish☀️❤️☀️
You are so sweet ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Becky, I am from South Africa and I have learnt a lot just by watching your videos. I am a guy looking to get my poultry farming off the ground, can you please be my mentor
I am just saying chickens do eat grass because I give my chickens every single day grass because in their coop area they do not have grass so I throw in grass and they eat it like crazy so you are wrong they eat grass
she's out with the chickens again!
This should be a show on HGTV or animal planet
More chicken check up!!!!! “Pretty Please “❤
