Hinsta was a strong Xhosa leader when they praise him they say "Ahh Zanzolo". He died in Battle. Yes indeed he was beheaded. I myself have seen his grave. It's near my village of Qhingqala. His grave near the bank of Nqabarha river. You can look up the location of his grave on Google Maps. He was never imprisoned. The nearest British settlement to his grave was Fort Malan which is 30km away and Hintsa's palace was in Centane which is 80-90km from where he died.
Remember people never new how to write until they were colonised and then is when they started to record their history. Before they were colonised they never recorded anything but they were there.
The Tshatshu settled at the foot of the Hangklip Mountain and later trekked to the confluence of the Kliplaat and the Oxkraal Rivers. Maqoma was settled south of the Winterberg Mountains. It is not true that the Tshatshu sought refuge with Maqoma.
Nice one..Hintsa is the paramount chief - equivalent to the king of all kingdoms. This account albeit true is of less use but to reinforce the barbaric wins of a colonizing force. The history requires the other side of the story.
It's one of the difficulties faced by historians - the history is recorded by the victor, with all the biases included. I would love to have the stories from an "indigenous perspective".
It is not quite true that the Tshatshu fled from Madzikane. It was the Tshatshu and the warriors of Ngubengcuka who killed Madzikane. The reason the Tshatshu left the Tsomo River Basin for Western Thembuland was due to a fallout with Ngubengcuka. Bawana, the Tshatshu chief exercised the right of the Right-hand House to establish themselves from the Great House.
Ahhh Zanzolo 🙌🏾
One of the saddest stories of atrocities British committed to us.
Thanks very sad what happened to him.interesting history.
Thank you

We fought for this land. The savages are thieves. We will rise again.
