    From what I've heard, the bill is so badly worded that you CAN actually end up with drones you have already bought being grounded. Sure that probably isn't intended, but it is definitely possible. If it's something that's possible, assholes are going to try and push it through.

      Yea I mean I sincerely hope he’s right but what others have talked about is actually being able to revoke previous FCC filings which up to this point has been unheard of. Them banning DJI as a whole and the importation of their products, which in turn would make it an expensive nightmare or impossible to get your drones serviced since they get shipped to china during that process. The drones I will be pissed about for sure but if they revoke the filings on their non drone related products I will be even more pissed about all this BS

    • @TomInGulfBreeze
      @TomInGulfBreeze 7 дней назад

      @@Trd2020 He's not wrong. Yes, it is possible that the existing FCC licenses could be revoked even though they've never done that before, but they didn't even do that when they actually caught a mobility manufacturer spying. This is all about benefiting skydio's inferior products, and they are more interested in preventing future DJI sales, not sales that have already happened.

    You're spot on. This whole thing is nonsense. The NDAA's shouldn't be so easy to abuse. Then again I guess you could say that for every single bill that's ever introduced. Look I'm all for made in the USA products, but like you said, the truth is that there isn't a drone made in the USA for consumers that's worth buying. What I have a hard time understanding is from a security standpoint, DJI devices are not able to fly in no fly zones without FAA authorization already. So for the most part no DJI product is ever flying over a military base unless it's the military flying it. On the flip side, the Chinese government can go to Google Maps and find whatever we think they're looking for. I personally think this is all about banning your competition, which is why Skydio threw money at it instead using it for R&D on the Skydio3. I tried to fight it for the longest time by using Autel and Skydio drones, but excluding automated tracking where Skydio is king, nothing else comes close to anything DJI makes.

    • @ShadoFXPerino
      @ShadoFXPerino 8 дней назад

      As far as security goes it could be related to what DJI have been doing in Ukraine ruclips.net/video/hCkbhvRdN24/видео.html ...
      Skydio isn't adequately targeting several parts of the US drone market but I expect that if DJI gets kicked out they'll quickly start expanding into those markets. If they fail to deliver after lobbying the government to go a certain way then they're actively harming the USA's domestic capabilities.

    • @TomInGulfBreeze
      @TomInGulfBreeze 7 дней назад

      @@ShadoFXPerino Nobody connected to the bill has ever given any actual facts as to what the "security" reasons are, because there are none.
      Skydio has very publicly abandoned the consure marked, and was never a player in the cinema market, and they are completely unequipped to move into either. This was about eliminating their competitor in the enterprise market, and they don't give a shit about the impact they're having in the markets they don't play in. And they are completely unequipped to "expand into those markets" both technically and financially.

    I own and fly two photography dji drones regularly, not in the traditional enterprise realm though. Here is a perspective: the powers that be have allowed the consumer and enterprise markets to mature; the later will now be taken over by 'approved' entities, the former is going to be history as the airspace is opened to...guess what...enterprise. I would suggest recognizing reality and going enterprise or just fly until you can't any more.

    This is as I understand it as well. But my question is, is it new dji models as a whole or just new frequencys because ocusync 4 is pretty darn good so if they can keep releasing new models under the current frequency then no problem for me. Also they could go to a radio frequency that doesn't require fcc approval such as cellular service (idk if that does or not). But also the Currant models from dji are years ahead of the other companies so and really don't need any kind of upgrade any time soon.

    Nowhere in the bill does it state for "new" drones only. IF the bill passes, whether previous DJI FCC authorizations are revoked is completely at the discretion of the FCC. Everyone (and I do mean everyone) is making a HUGE assumption that previous FCC authorization will not be revoked because the FCC did not revoke any authorization when other manufacturers were added to the "covered list". Huawei seems to be the go to example given by many. In November of 2022, it was determined that the FCC has the power and authority to revoke previous FCC authorizations when an entity is added to the "covered list". IMO, IF the bill passes (and that is a BIG IF), it is a complete coin toss as to whether DJI's previous FCC authorizations are revoked or not. I am not an eternal optimist. Particularly when considering the current state of our government and its alphabet soup of agencies. After all, Congress is proposing DJI be added to the "covered list" without a single shred of evidence that DJI truly is a threat to national security.

They make decent drones, from what I've seen and read, but they don't sell the general public. I looked at many different drones sold on Amazon (not DJI) that range in price from 60 dollars to 400 dollars, and they are all made by a Chinese company. That being said, if they did ground every Chinese drone in existence in this country, then there would be absolutely no other options. They won't. The CCP would NEVER allow one of its most successful homegrown companies to up and move to America. They will just license to a company to build them outside China as a different brand (like the Specta Air and Anzu Raptor) and then that company will sell them in the US. The only way that happens is if DJI sells the entire company to an American corporation and that will never happen. It's far too valuable in both the revenue it generates and the morale of China in having something that is truly superior to everything else on the market. The US market is ultimately a drop in the bucket for DJI when they basically own the entire consumer market globally.
