Yogis once met Elizabeth Taylor in an airport one summer. When she noticed Yogi wearing a white suit she said to him, " You look very cool and comfortable. " Yogi replied, " You don't look so hot yourself. "
Really loved Yogi for his great humorous comments like this! This was the guy who asked his pizza to be cut into only 4 slices because he wasn't hungry enough to eat six, said a nickel wasn't worth a dime any more, and that cash was just as good as money. 🤣🤣🤣. RIP Yogi...you are missed!
I heard the news of his death on my birthday. I had to look up if he died the day of or the night before. It was before my birthday. Another legendary athlete died on my birthday last year.
Boy oh boy did Jonathan luck out here. I often say that if you don't bet to cover 2nd place, then at least 99% of the time you deserve to lose. He's very lucky that his 2nd place opponent bet modestly as well, or else he would've lost this game for sure.
@@chapter7thomas If the category is a really tricky one that’s way out of your wheelhouse then you’re wanting your opponent to go big and blow it. That Jonathan and the lady were close was the Jeopardy version of “Chicken.”
Jonathan's bet is conservative but makes sense strategically. First, he shut out the player in third place. Second, his bet would have kept him ahead of the second place player if she missed it, even if he also missed it. Yes, the issue is Jonathan would have lost if the player in second got it right and bet big. However, betting big is a questionable strategy in his situation - since she can't catch the player in first, it's better to bet small and hope he misses it. In fact, I think she bet too much - better to wager less than $1800 to stay ahead of the third place guy, then hope the leader misses it and bets a substantial amount. Often times the betting for Final Jeopardy is a guessing game - will my opponents make strategically correct bets, and how should I bet if I make that assumption?
Me: "Who would say something like that...." Oh I got it! Afterwards I came downstairs and said to my dad: "When you get to the fork in the road, take it!" He said, "It's deja vu all over again."
@B Stow Yes. I know about that. Yogi's comments sometimes sound less "stupid" when you think about them or understand the context. Like: "It ain't over until it's over" was when the Mets did a miracle comeback in the standings over just a few weeks at the end of s season. Also, "Nobody wants to go there anymore. It too crowded." How many times have you gone to a restaurant and walked out when the host told you the wait time for a table would be a hour or more?
The fact that all 3 contestants got the answer right amazes me. Not that it was a hard question but usually sports questions on jeopardy end up on RUclips for hilariously bad answers
Many years ago, back in the 90's, I was watching a sports talk show on cable and the guests were Yogi, Phil Rizzuto and Whitey Ford. Yogi was brilliant, but more importantly, it was really wonderful to witness the respect between those 3 players. No egos. None of the crap we see today from various prima-donna's in sports (Antonio Brown). Near the end of the interview, whoever was interviewing them asked "who was the better center fielder, Joe DiMaggio or Mickey Mantle"? All 3 of them snapped instantly "Mantle". No posturing for political reasons. Just boom. Nothing to discuss. There are no more Yogi Berra's. They played for a pittance compared to the salaries of today and they didn't whine about it.
That's interesting. In Whitey Ford's book he creates an all time Yankee team and I believe he chose Dimaggio in CF. He only played with Dimaggio for one year
Well, looks like Jonathan’s in Great Shape with 4 Games and $94,000 💵💴💰💷 of joining Matt in the Tournament Of Champions. That would be wild to see Matt and Jonathan together in the Tournament Of Champions Finals like Francois, Emma, and James.
I can see a situation where that would be important. "Hurry up, Carmen, we have to catch the train." "What time is it?" "Do you mean now?" "No, what time does the train leave?"
One of my favorite quotes. “Nobody goes to that restaurant anymore because it's too crowded”.
The guy was a genius.

Before you quote a yogi-ism here, make sure it's accurate. As Yogi once said: "I never said most of the things I said."
Yogis once met Elizabeth Taylor in an airport one summer. When she noticed Yogi wearing a white suit she said to him, " You look very cool and comfortable. "
Yogi replied, " You don't look so hot yourself. "

I bet if it was anyone else she would have been a little insulted. For Yogi she probably had a good laugh.
I thought that was the wife of the mayor of New York.

I think he felt it was a tough category for the type of players on the show so he bet accordingly. He wasn’t lucky, he was smart.

déjà vu : Maris & Mantle hitting back to back home runs
all over again : for the umpteenth time
A Yogism if I have ever heard one. My favorite quote of his was "90% of baseball is mental, the other half is physical".
My favorite is where Yogi received a check made out to "Bearer" and he doesn't miss a beat. "How can you spell 'Berra' like that?"😂😏⚾️B.W.
Did you know, Yogi's first pitchas as Yankee was a home run.
When you get to the fork in the road, take it.
Anyone else think that Jonathan could pass as a stunt double for John C Reilly?
I agree, though I don't think "stunt double" and "John C. Reilly" have ever been in the same sentence before!
The fact that all 3 contestants got the answer right amazes me. Not that it was a hard question but usually sports questions on jeopardy end up on RUclips for hilariously bad answers
I was shocked too I love sports and I don't even know the answer to that can't believe these nerds got it right

It's amazing how easy some Final Jeopardy questions are. It's also amazing how hard some are.
thanks yogi.

My great uncle Larry Sadowski married Yogi Berra's sister Josephine.
Yogi said, " When you get to the fork in the road..take it".
The champ made a bad bet, but she made an even worse bet. If she’d wagered everything she wins.
Her wager made sense. Wager enough to cover the champion, while not so much to drop to third. He made a really bad bet.

I can't believe they all got it, but the last time they did a sports category, all three contestants were dumbfounded
You don’t need to know much about sports to know Yogi Berra’s history of odd comments.
Yogi!❤️⚾️❤️⚾️❤️⚾️
Well done
Da Yoge!! 😃👍
The only person I could think of, was the right answer.
Yogi'isms are the greatest of all English verbiage.

Easy just read the answer yogi was the master of saying stuff like that lol
Such and easy Final Jeopardy!, I knew it was Yogi Berra!
When are they getting a new host?
We got all of the Sports Experts in the comment section
that was riveting...
I'm no sports expert, but even *I* knew the question here....
It sounded like a Yogism but I drew a blank so I guessed Sparky Anderson. I think Sparky is a pretty good wrong answer.
Classic Yogism
Easy for sports lovers
He actually did the math correctly and now he has an even $70,000.
Or, he could have lost by $6,900 had Mary wagered everything.
I didn't know Jonas Hill was in jeopardy
"We made too many wrong mistakes."
Too easy. When you see a fork in the road, take it!
"90% of this game is half mental"
Another Yogism. A pretty easy for a Final Jeorpody question.
Knowing J.B. was a catcher and the nature of the statement made this a gimme.
Such a Yogi Berra thing to say.
The host is a robot. Miss Alex.
This had to be one of the easiest final jeopardy answers ever. Only Cliff from Cheers would’ve gotten this wrong.
Yogi what time is it? " you mean now?"
I can see a situation where that would be important.
"Hurry up, Carmen, we have to catch the train."
"What time is it?"
"Do you mean now?"
"No, what time does the train leave?"

What is Matt Amodio?
My guess for this Final Jeopardy Clue would have been 1 of the following 3.
1: Yogi Berra
2: Gary Carter
3: Ernie Lombardi
That's a Yogism. Easy clue.

Too obvious to any BB fan. You didn't have to know it to know it.
Seriously? This is the easiest question yhey have ever asked on final Jeopardy!
